Exodus 35

The Sabbath Command

35 Moses assembled the entire Israelite community and said to them, “These are the things that the Lord has commanded you to do:(A) For six days work is to be done, but on the seventh day you are to have a holy day, a Sabbath(B) of complete rest to the Lord. Anyone who does work on it must be executed. Do not light a fire in any of your homes on the Sabbath day.”(C)

Building the Tabernacle

Then Moses said to the entire Israelite community, “This is what the Lord has commanded: Take(D) up an offering among you for the Lord. Let everyone whose heart is willing bring this as the Lord’s offering: gold, silver, and bronze; blue, purple, and scarlet yarn; fine linen and goat hair; ram skins dyed red and fine leather;[a] acacia wood; oil for the light; spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense; and onyx with gemstones to mount on the ephod and breastpiece.

10 “Let all the skilled artisans[b] among you come and make everything that the Lord has commanded:(E) 11 the tabernacle—its tent and covering, its clasps and supports, its crossbars, its pillars and bases; 12 the ark with its poles, the mercy seat, and the curtain for the screen; 13 the table with its poles, all its utensils, and the Bread of the Presence; 14 the lampstand for light with its utensils and lamps as well as the oil for the light; 15 the altar of incense with its poles; the anointing oil and the fragrant incense; the entryway screen for the entrance to the tabernacle; 16 the altar of burnt offering with its bronze grate, its poles, and all its utensils; the basin with its stand; 17 the hangings of the courtyard, its posts and bases, and the screen for the gate of the courtyard; 18 the tent pegs for the tabernacle and the tent pegs for the courtyard, along with their ropes; 19 and the specially woven[c] garments for ministering in the sanctuary—the holy garments for the priest Aaron and the garments for his sons to serve as priests.”(F)

20 Then the entire Israelite community left Moses’s presence. 21 Everyone whose heart was moved and whose spirit prompted him came and brought an offering to the Lord for the work on the tent of meeting, for all its services, and for the holy garments.(G) 22 Both men and women came; all who had willing hearts brought brooches, earrings, rings, necklaces, and all kinds of gold jewelry—everyone who presented a presentation offering of gold to the Lord. 23 Everyone who possessed blue, purple, or scarlet yarn,(H) fine linen or goat hair, ram skins dyed red or fine leather,[d] brought them. 24 Everyone making an offering of silver or bronze brought it as a contribution to the Lord. Everyone who possessed acacia wood useful for any task in the work brought it. 25 Every skilled[e] woman(I) spun yarn with her hands and brought it: blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and fine linen. 26 And all the women whose hearts were moved spun the goat hair by virtue of their skill. 27 The leaders(J) brought onyx and gemstones to mount on the ephod and breastpiece, 28 as well as the spice(K) and oil for the light, for the anointing oil, and for the fragrant incense. 29 So the Israelites brought a freewill offering to the Lord, all the men and women whose hearts prompted them to bring something for all the work that the Lord, through Moses, had commanded to be done.(L)

Bezalel and Oholiab

30 Moses(M) then said to the Israelites, “Look, the Lord has appointed by name Bezalel son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. 31 He has filled him with God’s Spirit, with wisdom, understanding, and ability in every kind of craft 32 to design artistic works in gold, silver, and bronze, 33 to cut gemstones for mounting, and to carve wood for work in every kind of artistic craft. 34 He has also given[f] both him and Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, the ability to teach others. 35 He has filled them with skill[g] to do all the work(N) of a gem cutter; a designer; an embroiderer[h] in blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine linen; and a weaver. They can do every kind of craft and design artistic designs.

John 14

The Way to the Father

14 “Don’t let your heart be troubled.(A) Believe[a] in God; (B) believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going (C) to prepare a place for you? If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come again(D) and take you to myself, so that where I am you may be also.(E) You know the way to where I am going.”[b](F)

“Lord,” Thomas(G) said, “we don’t know where you’re going. How can we know the way?”

Jesus told him, “I am(H) the way,(I) the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will also know[c] my Father.(J) From now on you do know him(K) and have seen him.”

Jesus Reveals the Father

“Lord,” said Philip,(L) “show us the Father, and that’s enough for us.”

Jesus said to him, “Have I been among you all this time and you do not know me, Philip? The one who has seen me has seen the Father.(M) How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?(N) The words I speak to you I do not speak on my own.(O) The Father who lives in me does his works.(P) 11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Otherwise, believe[d] because of the works themselves.(Q)

Praying in Jesus’s Name

12 “Truly I tell you, the one who believes in me(R) will also do the works that I do. And he will do even greater works than these,(S) because I am going to the Father.(T) 13 Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it so that the Father may be glorified(U) in the Son.(V) 14 If you ask me[e] anything in my name,(W) I will do it.[f](X)

Another Counselor Promised

15 “If you love me, you will keep[g] my commands.(Y) 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor[h](Z) to be with you forever. 17 He is the Spirit(AA) of truth.(AB) The world is unable to receive him because it doesn’t see him or know him. But you do know him, because he remains with you and will be[i] in you.(AC)

The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit

18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I am coming to you. 19 In a little while the world will no longer see me,(AD) but you will see me.(AE) Because I live, you will live(AF) too. 20 On that day you will know that I am in my Father,(AG) you are in me, and I am in you. 21 The one who has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me.(AH) And the one who loves me will be loved by my Father.(AI) I also will love him and will reveal myself to him.”

22 Judas(AJ) (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it you’re going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?” (AK)

23 Jesus answered, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.(AL) 24 The one who doesn’t love me will not keep my words. The word that you hear is not mine but is from the Father who sent me.(AM)

25 “I have spoken these things to you while I remain with you. 26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit,(AN) whom the Father will send(AO) in my name, will teach you all things(AP) and remind you of everything I have told you.(AQ)

Jesus’s Gift of Peace

27 “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.(AR) 28 You have heard me tell you, ‘I am going away(AS) and I am coming to you.’ If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father,(AT) because the Father is greater than I.(AU) 29 I have told you now before it happens(AV) so that when it does happen you may believe. 30 I will not talk with you much longer, because the ruler of the world(AW) is coming. He has no power over me.[j](AX) 31 On the contrary, so that the world may know that I love the Father, I do as the Father commanded me.

“Get up; let’s leave this place.

Ephesians 4

Unity and Diversity in the Body of Christ

Therefore I, the prisoner in the Lord,(A) urge you to walk worthy of the calling you have received, with all humility(B) and gentleness, with patience,(C) bearing(D) with one another in love,(E) making every effort to keep the unity(F) of the Spirit(G) through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit(H)—just as you were called to one hope[a](I) at your calling— one Lord,(J) one faith,(K) one baptism, one God(L) and Father(M) of all, who is above all and through all and in all.(N)

Now grace was given to each one of us(O) according to the measure of Christ’s gift. For it says:

When he ascended(P) on high,
he took the captives captive;
he gave gifts to people.[b](Q)

But what does “he ascended” mean except that he[c] also descended to the lower parts of the earth?[d](R) 10 The one who descended is also the one who ascended far above all the heavens,(S) to fill all things.(T) 11 And he himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, to build up the body of Christ,(U) 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of God’s Son,(V) growing into maturity with a stature(W) measured by Christ’s fullness. 14 Then we will no longer be little children, tossed by the waves and blown around by every wind of teaching,(X) by human cunning with cleverness in the techniques of deceit. 15 But speaking the truth in love, let us grow in every way into him who is the head(Y)—Christ. 16 From him the whole body, fitted and knit together(Z) by every supporting ligament, promotes the growth(AA) of the body for building itself up in love by the proper working of each individual part.

Living the New Life

17 Therefore, I say this and testify in the Lord: You should no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thoughts. 18 They are darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them and because[e] of the hardness of their hearts. 19 They became callous and gave themselves over to promiscuity for the practice of every kind of impurity(AB) with a desire for more and more.[f]

20 But that is not how you came to know Christ, 21 assuming you heard about him and were taught by him, as the truth(AC) is in Jesus, 22 to take off[g](AD) your former way of life,(AE) the old self(AF) that is corrupted by deceitful desires, 23 to be renewed[h] in the spirit(AG) of your minds, 24 and to put on[i](AH) the new self, the one created(AI) according to God’s likeness(AJ) in righteousness and purity of the truth.

25 Therefore, putting away(AK) lying, speak the truth, each one to his neighbor,[j](AL) because we are members of one another. 26 Be angry and do not sin.[k](AM) Don’t let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and don’t give the devil an opportunity. 28 Let the thief no longer steal. Instead, he is to do honest work with his own hands, so that he has something to share(AN) with anyone in need. 29 No foul language should come from your mouth, but only what is good for building up someone in need,[l] so that it gives grace to those who hear. 30 And don’t grieve God’s Holy Spirit.(AO) You were sealed by him[m] for the day of redemption.(AP) 31 Let all bitterness, anger and wrath, shouting and slander be removed from you, along with all malice. 32 And be kind(AQ) and compassionate(AR) to one another, forgiving(AS) one another, just as God also forgave you[n] in Christ.
