Exodus 11:1-12:21

11 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, I will bring one more plague upon Pharaoh and upon Egypt, after which he will let you go from here; when he shall let you go, he shall surely thrust you out of here altogether.

Speak now to the people and let each man demand of his neighbour and each woman of her neighbour, vessels of silver and of gold.

And the LORD gave the people grace in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh’s slaves, and in the sight of the people.

¶ And Moses said, The LORD hath said thus, About midnight I will go out into the midst of Egypt,

and all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sits upon his throne even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill and all the firstborn of beasts.

And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there has never been one like it, nor shall there ever be any like it again.

But among all the sons of Israel, from man to beast, not a dog shall move his tongue, that ye may know that the LORD shall make a difference between the Egyptians and the Israelites.

And all these thy slaves shall come down unto me and bow down themselves unto me, saying, Go out, and all the people that follow thee; and after that I will go out. And he went out from Pharaoh in a great anger.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.

10 And Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh: but the LORD had hardened Pharaoh’s heart, so that he would not let the sons of Israel go out of his land.

12 ¶ And the LORD spoke unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,

This month shall be unto you the beginning of the months; it shall be the first month of the year to you.

Speak unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month let each man take a lamb according to the families of the fathers, a lamb per family;

and if the household is too small and is not able to eat the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of persons; each one according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.

The lamb shall be without blemish, a male of one year; ye shall take it out from the sheep or from the goats;

and ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month, and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it between the two evenings.

And they shall take of the blood and put it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses in which they shall eat it.

And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roasted with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.

Eat none of it raw, nor boiled at all with water, but roast with fire, his head with his legs, and with the entrails thereof.

10 And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remains of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.

11 And thus shall ye eat it: with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’s passover.

12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both among man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the LORD.

13 And this blood shall be to you for a sign upon the houses where ye are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it as a feast unto the LORD throughout your ages; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance forever.

15 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses, for whoever eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel.

16 And in the first day there shall be a holy convocation, and in the seventh day there shall be a holy convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, except that which every person must eat, that only may be done of you.

17 And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread, for in this same day have I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt; therefore, shall ye observe this day for your ages by an ordinance forever.

18 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month in the evening, ye shall eat unleavened bread until the twenty-first day of the month in the evening.

19 For seven days there shall be no leaven found in your houses; for whoever eats that which is leavened, that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he is a stranger or born in the land.

20 Ye shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations ye shall eat unleavened bread.

21 ¶ Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said unto them, Draw out and take lambs according to your families and sacrifice the passover.

Luke 14

14 ¶ And it came to pass as he went into the house of one of the princes of the Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day that they watched him.

And, behold, there was a certain man before him who had the dropsy.

And Jesus, answering, spoke unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?

And they were silent. And he took him and healed him and dismissed him

and answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?

And they could not answer him as to these things.

¶ And observing how they chose the first seats at the table, he put forth a parable to those who were invited, saying unto them,

When thou art called to a wedding by anyone, do not sit down in the highest place, lest a more honourable man than thou be invited of him,

and he that called thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place, and thou begin with shame to have the lowest place.

10 But when thou art called, go and sit down in the lowest place that when he that invited thee comes, he may say unto thee, Friend, come up higher; then shalt thou have glory in the presence of those that sit at the table with thee.

11 For whosoever exalts himself shall be abased, and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

12 Then said he also to him that invited him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen nor thy rich neighbours, lest they also invite thee again, and a recompense be made thee.

13 But when thou makest a banquet, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind,

14 and thou shalt be blessed, for they cannot recompense thee; for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

15 ¶ And when one of those that sat at the table with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.

16 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper and called many

17 and sent his slave at supper time to say to those that were called, Come, for all things are now ready.

18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a field, and I have need to go and see it; I pray thee have me excused.

19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them; I pray thee have me excused.

20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

21 So that slave came and showed his lord these things. Then the husband of the house, being angry, said to his slave, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the halt and the blind.

22 And the slave said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.

23 And the lord said unto the slave, Go out into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in that my house may be filled.

24 For I say unto you, That none of those men which were called shall taste of my supper.

25 ¶ And great multitudes went with him, and he turned and said unto them,

26 If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brethren and sisters, and even his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

27 And whosoever does not bear his cross {Gr. stauros – stake} and come after me cannot be my disciple.

28 For which of you intending to build a tower does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has sufficient to finish it?

29 Lest perhaps after he has laid the foundation and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,

30 saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

31 Or what king going to make war against another king does not sit down first and consult whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him that comes against him with twenty thousand?

32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an embassy and desires conditions of peace.

33 So likewise, any one of you that does not forsake all that he has cannot be my disciple.

34 Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its savour, with what shall it be seasoned?

35 It is neither good for the land, nor for the dunghill; it is cast out. He that has ears to hear, let him hear.

Job 29

29 ¶ Moreover, Job continued his parable and said,

Oh, that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;

when his lamp shone upon my head, and by its light I walked in the darkness;

as I was in the days of my youth, when God was familiar in my tent;

when the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;

when I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil!

¶ When I went out to the gate to judgment, when I had my seat prepared in the plaza!

The young men would see me and hide themselves, and the aged would arise and stand.

The princes would refrain from talking and lay their hand on their mouth;

10 the voice of the principals would not be noticed, and their tongue would cleave to the roof of their mouth.

11 When the ears that heard me, called me blessed; and when the eyes that saw me, gave witness to me:

12 because I delivered the poor that cried and the fatherless who had no one to help him.

13 The blessing of the one that was ready to perish came upon me; and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.

14 I put on righteousness, and it clothed me as a robe; and my diadem was judgment.

15 I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame.

16 I was a father to the needy; and the cause which I did not know I searched out.

17 And I broke the fangs of the wicked and caused their teeth to release the prey.

18 ¶ Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.

19 My root is spread out by the waters, and the dew shall remain upon my branches.

20 My glory is renewed with me, and my bow is renewed in my hand.

21 They would hear me and wait, and keep silent at my counsel.

22 After my words they would not reply, but my reason dropped upon them.

23 And they waited for me as for the rain, and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.

24 If I laughed at them, they did not believe it; and they did not cast down the light of my countenance.

25 I approved their way and sat at the head and dwelt as a king in the army, as one that comforts the mourners.

1 Corinthians 15

15 ¶ Moreover, brothers, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received and in which ye stand;

by which also ye are being saved if ye retain the word that I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received: how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures

and that he was buried and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures

and that he appeared to Cephas and then to the twelve;

after that, he appeared unto more than five hundred brothers at once, of whom the greater part remain unto now, but some are fallen asleep.

After that, he appeared unto James; then to all the apostles.

And last of all he appeared unto me also, as of one born out of due time.

For I am the least of the apostles, for I am not worthy to be called an apostle because I persecuted the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of God.

10 But by the grace of God I am what I am; and his grace towards me was not in vain, for I laboured more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

11 Therefore, whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.

12 ¶ Now if the Christ is preached that rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?

13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then neither is Christ risen;

14 and if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is vain, and your faith is also vain.

15 And we are even found false witnesses of God because we have testified of God that he raised up the Christ, whom he did not raise up, if it so be that the dead do not rise.

16 For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not raised either;

17 and if Christ is not raised, your faith is vain; ye are even yet in your sins.

18 Then those also who are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.

19 If in this life only we have existence in Christ, we are the most miserable of all men.

20 ¶ But now Christ is risen from the dead and become the firstfruits of those that slept.

21 For since by a man came death, by a man came also the resurrection of the dead.

22 For as in Adam all die, even so in the Christ shall all be made alive.

23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward, those that are Christ’s at his coming.

24 Then comes the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father, when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

25 For he must reign until he has put all enemies under his feet.

26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

27 For he has put all things under his feet. But when he says all things are put under him, it is clear that he is excepted, who did put all things under him.

28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also subject himself unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.

29 Else what shall they do who are baptized for the dead, if the dead do not rise at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?

30 And why do we stand in jeopardy every hour?

31 I die daily to stay in the glory of having taught you, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord.

32 If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what does it advantage me, if the dead do not rise? let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we die.

33 Be not deceived: evil companions corrupt good character.

34 Watch diligently, and sin not; for some do not know God: I speak this to your shame.

35 ¶ But someone will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?

36 Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not brought to life, unless it dies first;

37 and that which thou sowest, thou sowest not the body that shall be, but bare grain: it may be of wheat or of some other grain;

38 but God gives it a body as it has pleased him, and to each seed its own body.

39 All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.

40 There are also heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the heavenly glory is one thing, and the earthly glory is another.

41 One thing is the glory of the sun, and another the glory of the moon, and another the glory of the stars; for one star differs from another star in glory.

42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption, it shall be raised in incorruption;

43 it is sown in dishonour, it shall be raised with glory; it is sown in weakness, it shall be raised with power;

44 it is sown a natural body, it shall be raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a life-giving Spirit.

46 Howbeit the spiritual is not first, but the natural; and afterward, that which is spiritual.

47 The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord of heaven.

48 As is the earthy, such are those also that are earthy; and as is the heavenly, such also are those that are heavenly.

49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

50 Now this I say, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither does corruption inherit incorruption.

51 ¶ Behold, I show you a mystery: We shall all indeed be raised, but we shall not all be changed;

52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet, for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised without corruption, and we shall be changed.

53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the word that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

55 O death, where is thy sting? O Hades, where is thy victory?

56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.

57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 ¶ Therefore, my beloved brothers, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
