M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
44 ¶ And he commanded the steward of his house, saying, Fill these men’s sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put every man’s money in his sack’s mouth;
2 and put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack’s mouth of the youngest, with the money of his wheat. And he did according to the word that Joseph had spoken.
3 As soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away, they and their asses.
4 And when they were gone out of the city, and not yet far off, Joseph said unto his steward, Rise up, follow after those men; and when thou dost overtake them, say unto them, Why have ye rewarded evil for good?
5 Is this not the one in which my lord drinks and in which indeed he divines? Ye have done evil in so doing.
6 When he overtook them, he spoke unto them these same words.
7 And they said unto him, Why saith my lord these words? In no wise should thy slaves do according to this thing.
8 Behold, the money, which we found in our sacks’ mouths, we brought again unto thee out of the land of Canaan; how then should we steal out of thy lord’s house silver or gold?
9 With whoever of thy slaves it is found, both let him die and we also will be my lord’s bond slaves.
10 And he said, Now also let it be according unto your words; he with whom it is found shall be my slave, and ye shall be blameless.
11 Then they made haste, and each one took his sack down to the ground, and each one opened his sack.
12 And he searched and began at the eldest and finished at the youngest; and the cup was found in Benjamin’s sack.
13 Then they rent their clothes, and each one laded his ass, and they returned to the city.
14 And Judah and his brethren came to Joseph’s house, for he was yet there; and they fell before him on the ground.
15 And Joseph said unto them, What deed is this that ye have done? Know ye not that such a man as I can certainly divine?
16 Then Judah said, What shall we say unto my lord? What shall we speak or how shall we clear ourselves? God has found out the iniquity of thy slaves; behold, we are my lord’s slaves, both we and he also with whom the cup is found.
17 And he said, in no wise should I do so; but the man in whose hand the cup is found, he shall be my slave; and as for you, go up in peace unto your father.
18 ¶ Then Judah came near unto him and said, Oh my lord, let thy slave, I pray thee, speak a word in my lord’s ears, and let not thine anger burn against thy slave; for thou art even as Pharaoh.
19 My lord asked his slaves, saying, Have ye a father or a brother?
20 And we said unto my lord, We have a father, an old man, and a young man of his old age, yet a lad; and his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother, and his father loves him.
21 And thou didst say unto thy slaves, Bring him down unto me that I may set my eyes upon him.
22 And we said unto my lord, The lad cannot leave his father; for if he should leave his father, his father would die.
23 And thou didst say unto thy slaves, Unless your youngest brother comes down with you, ye shall see my face no more.
24 And it came to pass when we came up unto thy slave my father, we told him the words of my lord.
25 And our father said, Go again and buy us a little food.
26 And we said, We cannot go down; if our youngest brother is with us, then will we go down; for we may not see the man’s face unless our youngest brother is with us.
27 Then thy slave my father said unto us, Ye know that my wife bore me two sons;
28 and the one went out from me, and I said, Surely he is torn in pieces, and I have not seen him since;
29 and if ye take this one also from me and some disaster should befall him, ye shall bring my gray hairs with sorrow down to Sheol.
30 Now therefore when I come to thy slave my father, and the lad is not with us, seeing that his soul is bound up in the lad’s soul,
31 it shall come to pass when he sees that the lad is not with us, that he will die: and thy slaves shall bring the gray hairs of thy slave our father down with sorrow to Sheol.
32 For thy slave became surety for the lad unto my father, saying, If I bring him not unto thee, then I shall bear the sin before my father for ever.
33 Now therefore, I pray thee, let thy slave remain instead of the lad as a bond slave to my lord, and let the lad go up with his brethren.
34 For how shall I go up to my father and the lad not be with me? I cannot go lest I see the evil that shall come on my father.
14 ¶ Two days after was the passover and the days of unleavened bread; and the princes of the priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, that they might kill him.
2 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people.
3 And he being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, sitting at the table, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and breaking the alabaster, she poured it over his head.
4 And there were some that had indignation within themselves and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?
5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred denarius and given to the poor. And they murmured against her.
6 But Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? She has wrought a good work on me.
7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whenever ye will, ye may do them good; but me ye have not always.
8 She has done what she could, for she has anticipated anointing my body for the burial.
9 Verily I say unto you, Wherever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she has done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.
10 Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, came unto the princes of the priests to deliver him unto them.
11 And when they heard it, they were glad and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.
12 ¶ And the first day of the feast of unleavened bread, when they sacrificed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou may eat the passover?
13 And he sends forth two of his disciples and said unto them, Go into the city, and a man shall meet you bearing a pitcher of water; follow him.
14 And wherever he shall go in, say to the husband of the house, The Master says, Where is the guestchamber where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
15 And he will show you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us.
16 And his disciples went forth and came into the city and found as he had said unto them, and they made ready the passover.
17 And in the evening he went with the twelve.
18 And when they sat at the table and ate, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you who eats with me shall betray me.
19 And they began to be sorrowful and to say unto him one by one, shall it be I? and another said, shall it be I?
20 And he, answering, said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dips with me in the dish.
21 The Son of man indeed goes, as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.
22 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread and, blessing it, broke it and gave to them and said, Take, eat: this is my body.
23 And taking the cup, having given thanks, he gave it to them; and they all drank of it.
24 And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.
25 Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.
26 And when they had sung the hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
27 Then Jesus said unto them, All ye shall be scandalized in me this night; for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.
28 But after I have risen, I will go before you into Galilee.
29 Then Peter said unto him, Although all be scandalized, yet I will not.
30 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crows twice, thou shalt deny me three times.
31 But he spoke the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said the others.
32 ¶ And they come to the place which is named Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, Sit ye here while I pray.
33 And he takes with him Peter and James and John and began to be alarmed and to be anguished
34 and said unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death; tarry ye here, and watch.
35 And he went forward a little and fell on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me; nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
37 And he came and found them sleeping and said unto Peter: Simon, sleepest thou? Could thou not watch one hour?
38 Watch ye and pray; enter not into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is sick.
39 And again he went away and prayed and spoke the same words.
40 And when he returned, he found them asleep again (for their eyes were heavy), nor did they know what to answer him.
41 And he came the third time and said unto them, Sleep on now and rest; it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of the sinners.
42 Rise up, let us go; behold, he that betrays me is at hand.
43 ¶ And immediately, while he yet spoke, Judas came, who was one of the twelve, and with him a multitude with swords and staves from the princes of the priests and of the scribes and of the elders.
44 And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him and lead him away securely.
45 And as soon as he was come, he went straightway to him and said, Master, Master, and kissed him.
46 And they laid their hands on him and took him.
47 And one of them that stood by drew a sword and smote the slave of the high priest and cut off his ear.
48 And Jesus, answering, said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?
49 I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not, but it is this way that the scriptures might be fulfilled.
50 And they all forsook him and fled.
51 And there followed him a certain young man having a linen cloth cast about his naked body, and the young men laid hold on him,
52 and he left the linen cloth and fled from them naked.
53 ¶ And they brought Jesus to the high priest, and with him were assembled all the princes of the priests and the elders and the scribes.
54 But Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest, and he was seated with the servants and warming himself at the fire.
55 And the princes of the priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death and found none.
56 For many bore false witness against him, but their witness did not agree together.
57 And there arose some that bore false witness against him, saying,
58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.
59 But neither so did their witness agree together.
60 So the high priest, standing up in the midst, asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing to what these witness against thee?
61 But he was silent and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
62 And Jesus said unto him, I AM, and ye shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of the power of God and coming in the clouds of the heaven.
63 Then the high priest rent his clothes and said, What need have we any more for witnesses?
64 Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.
65 And some began to spit on him and to cover his face and to buffet him and to say unto him, Prophesy. And the servants struck him with the palms of their hands.
66 ¶ And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there came one of the maids of the high priest;
67 and when she saw Peter warming himself, looking upon him, said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.
68 But he denied, saying, I know him not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.
69 And the maid seeing him again began to say to those that stood by, This is one of them.
70 But he denied it again. And a little after, those that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them, for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agrees unto it.
71 And he began to curse and to swear, saying, I do not know this man of whom ye speak.
72 And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the words that Jesus had said unto him, Before the cock crows twice, thou shalt deny me three times. And thinking on this, he wept.
10 ¶ My soul is cut off in my life; therefore, I will leave my complaint upon myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.
2 I will say unto God, Do not condemn me; cause me to understand why thou dost contend with me.
3 Is it good unto thee that thou should oppress, that thou should reject the work of thine hands and shine upon the counsel of the wicked?
4 Hast thou eyes of flesh? Dost thou see as man sees?
5 Are thy days as the days of man? Are thy years as man’s days,
6 that thou dost enquire after my iniquity and search after my sin?
7 Thou knowest that I am not wicked; and there is no one that can deliver out of thy hand.
8 ¶ Thine hands have formed me and fashioned me together round about; yet thou dost destroy me.
9 Remember now that thou hast formed me as the clay; and wilt thou bring me into dust again?
10 Hast thou not poured me out as milk and curdled me like cheese?
11 Thou hast clothed me with skin and flesh and hast hedged me with bones and sinews.
12 Thou hast granted me life and mercy, and thy visitation has kept my spirit.
13 And these things thou hast hid in thine heart; I know that this is with thee.
14 ¶ If I sinned, wilt thou mark me and not cleanse me from my iniquity?
15 If I am wicked, woe unto me; and if I am righteous, I will not lift up my head, being full of dishonour and of seeing my affliction.
16 And thou dost increase. Thou dost hunt me as a fierce lion; turning and doing marvels in me.
17 Thou dost renew thy plagues against me and increase thine indignation upon me, bringing up armies against me.
18 Why then hast thou brought me forth out of the womb? Oh that I had given up the spirit and no eye had seen me!
19 I should have been as though I had not been; I should have been carried from the womb to the grave.
20 Are not my days few? Cease then, and let me alone, that I may take comfort a little,
21 before I go, to not return, to the land of darkness and of the shadow of death;
22 land of darkness, as darkness itself, and of the shadow of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness.
14 ¶ Bear with the one who is sick in the faith, but not unto doubtful discernment.
2 For one believes that he may eat all things; another, who is sick, eats vegetables.
3 Let not him that eats despise him that does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him that eats; for God has raised him up.
4 Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? By his own master he stands or falls; and if he falls, he shall be made to stand, for God is powerful to make him stand.
5 Also, some make a difference between one day and another; others esteem every day alike. Let each one be fully persuaded in his own soul.
6 He that observes the day, let him observe it unto the Lord; and he that does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He that eats, eats unto the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he that does not eat, unto the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks.
7 For none of us live for ourselves, and no one dies for himself.
8 For if we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord; whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.
9 For to this end Christ both died and rose and revived: to thus exercise lordship over the dead as well as over the living.
10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou belittle thy brother? for we shall all stand before the tribunal of the Christ.
11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
12 So then each one of us shall give account of himself to God.
13 Let us, therefore, not judge one another any more, but judge this rather: that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way.
14 I know and trust in the Lord Jesus that for his sake there is nothing unclean, but to him that esteems any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.
15 But if thy brother is grieved because of thy food, now thou dost not walk in charity. Do not destroy him with thy food, for whom Christ died.
16 Let not then your good be evil spoken of;
17 for the kingdom of God is not food and drink, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
18 For he that in these things serves the Christ is well pleasing unto God and approved of men.
19 Let us, therefore, follow after the things which make for peace and the edification of each one to the others.
20 Because of food, do not destroy the work of God. All things indeed are clean, but it is evil for that man who eats with offense.
21 It is good neither to eat flesh nor to drink wine nor do any thing by which thy brother stumbles or is offended or is sick.
22 Thou hast faith; have it to thyself before God. Blessed is he that does not condemn himself with that thing which he allows.
23 And he that makes a difference is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat by faith; and whatsoever is not out of faith is sin.
