M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
21 3 King Manasseh restoreth idolatry, 16 And useth great cruelty. 18 He dieth and Amon his son succeedeth, 23 Who is killed of his own servants. 26 After him reigneth Josiah.
1 Manasseh (A)was twelve years old when he began to reign, and reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem: his mother’s name also was Hephzibah.
2 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord after the abomination of the heathen, whom the (B)Lord had cast out before the children of Israel.
3 For he went back and built the high places, (C)which Hezekiah his father had destroyed: and he erected up altars for Baal, and made a grove, as did Ahab king of Israel, and worshipped all the host of heaven and served them.
4 Also he (D)built altars in the house of the Lord, of the which the Lord said, (E)In Jerusalem will I put my Name.
5 And he built altars for all the host of the heaven in the two courts of the house of the Lord.
6 And he caused his sons [a]to pass through the fire, and gave himself to witchcraft and sorcery, and he used them that had familiar spirits and were soothsayers, and did much evil in the sight of the Lord to anger him.
7 And he set the image of the grove, that he had made in the house, whereof the Lord had said to David and to Solomon his son, (F)In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, will I put my Name forever.
8 Neither will I make the feet of Israel move anymore out of the land, which I gave their fathers: so that they will [b]observe and do all that I have commanded them, and according to all the Law that my servant Moses commanded them.
9 Yet they obeyed not, but Manasseh led them out of the way, to do more wickedly than did the heathen people, whom the Lord destroyed before the children of Israel.
10 Therefore the Lord spake by his servants the Prophets, saying,
11 (G)Because that Manasseh king of Judah hath done such abominations, and hath wrought more wickedly than all that the Amorites (which were before him) did, and hath made Judah sin also with his idols.
12 Therefore thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Behold, I will bring an evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that who so heareth of it, both his (H)ears shall [c]tingle.
13 And I will stretch over Jerusalem the line [d]of Samaria, and the plummet of the house of Ahab: and I will wipe Jerusalem, as a man wipeth a dish, which he wipeth, and turneth it upside down.
14 And I will forsake the [e]remnant of mine inheritance, and deliver them into the hand of their enemies, and they shall be robbed and spoiled of all their adversaries,
15 Because they have done evil in my sight, and have provoked me to anger, since the time their fathers came out of Egypt until this day.
16 Moreover, Manasseh shed [f]innocent blood exceedingly much, till he replenished Jerusalem from corner to corner, beside his sin wherewith he made Judah to sin, and to do evil in the sight of the Lord.
17 Concerning the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and all that he did, and his sin that he sinned, are they not written in the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Judah?
18 And Manasseh slept with his fathers, and was buried in the garden of his own house, even in the garden of Uzza: and Amon his son reigned in his stead.
19 ¶ (I)Amon was two and twenty years old, when he began to reign, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem: his mother’s name also was Meshullemeth the daughter of Haruz of Jotbah.
20 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, as his father Manasseh did.
21 For he walked in all the way that his father walked in, and served the idols that his father served, and worshipped them.
22 And he forsook the Lord God of his fathers, and walked not in the [g]way of the Lord.
23 And the servants of Amon conspired against him, and slew the King in his own house.
24 And the people of the land slew all them that had conspired against King Amon, and the people made Josiah his son King in his stead.
25 Concerning the rest of the acts of Amon, which he did, are they not written in the book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
26 And [h]they buried him in his sepulcher in the garden of Uzza: and Josiah his son reigned in his stead.
3 1 Now he showeth how far inferior Moses is to Christ, 5, 6 even so much as the servant to the Master: and so he bringeth in certain exhortations and threatenings taken out of David, 8 against such as either stubbornly resist, 12 or else are very slow to obey.
1 Therefore, [a]holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly vocation, consider the [b]Apostle and high Priest of our [c]profession Christ Jesus:
2 [d]Who was faithful to him that hath [e]appointed him, [f]even as (A)Moses was in all his house.
3 [g]For this man is counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he which hath builded the house, hath more honor than the house.
4 For every house is builded of some man, and he that hath built all things, is God.
5 [h]Now Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a witness of the things which should be spoken after.
6 But Christ is as the Son, over his own house, [i]whose [j]house we are, if we hold fast that [k]confidence and that rejoicing of that hope unto the end.
7 Wherefore, as the holy Ghost saith, (B)Today if ye [l]shall hear his voice,
8 Harden not your hearts, as in the [m]provocation, according to the day of the temptation in the wilderness,
9 Where your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years long.
10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They [n]err ever in their heart, neither have they known my ways.
11 Therefore I swear in my wrath, If they shall enter into my rest.
12 [o]Take heed brethren, lest at any time there be in any of you an evil heart, and unfaithful, to depart away from the living God.
13 But exhort one another daily, [p]while it is called today, lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
14 [q]For we are made partakers of Christ, if we keep sure unto the end that [r]beginning, wherewith we are upholden,
15 [s]So long as it is said, Today if ye hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
16 For some when they heard, provoked him to anger: howbeit, not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.
17 But with whom was he displeased forty years? Was he not displeased with them that sinned, (C)whose carcasses fell in the wilderness?
18 And to whom swear he that they should not enter into his rest, but unto them that obeyed not?
19 So we see that they could not enter in, because of unbelief.
14 1 The destruction of Samaria. 2 He exhorteth Israel to turn to God, who requireth praise and thanks.
1 Samaria shall be desolate: for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped.
2 O Israel, [a]return unto the Lord thy God: for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity.
3 Take unto you words, and turn to the Lord, and say unto him, [b]Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our [c]lips.
4 Assyria shall [d]not save us, neither will we ride upon horses, neither will we say anymore to the work of our hands, Ye are our gods: for in thee the fatherless findeth mercy.
5 [e]I will heal their rebellion: I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him.
6 I will be as the dew unto Israel: he shall grow as the lily and fasten his roots, as the trees of Lebanon.
7 His branches shall spread, and his beauty shall be as the olive tree, and his smell as Lebanon.
8 They that dwell under his [f]shadow, shall return: they shall revive as the corn, and flourish as the vine: the scent thereof shall be as the wine of Lebanon.
9 Ephraim shall say, What have I to do anymore with idols? I [g]have heard him, and looked upon him: I am like a green fir tree: upon me is thy fruit found.
10 Who is [h]wise, and he shall understand these things? and prudent, and he shall know them? for the ways of the Lord are righteous and the just shall walk in them: but the wicked shall fall therein.
139 1 David cleanseth his heart from all hypocrisy, showeth that there is nothing so hid, which God seeth not. 13 Which he confirmeth by the creation of man. 14 After declaring his zeal and fear of God, he professeth to be enemy to all them that contemn God.
To him that excelleth. A Psalm of David.
1 O Lord, thou hast tried me, and known me.
2 Thou knowest my [a]sitting and my rising: thou understandest my thought afar off.
3 Thou [b]compassest my paths, and my lying down, and art accustomed to all my ways.
4 For there is not a word in my [c]tongue, but lo, thou knowest it wholly, O Lord.
5 Thou holdest me strait behind and before, and layest thine [d]hand upon me.
6 Thy knowledge is too wonderful for me: it is so high that I cannot attain unto it.
7 Whither shall I go from thy [e]Spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
8 If I ascend into heaven, thou art there: if I lie down in hell, thou art there.
9 Let me take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea:
10 Yet thither shall thine hand [f]lead me, and thy right hand hold me.
11 If I say, Yet the darkness shall hide me, even the night shall be [g]light about me.
12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee: but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and light are both alike.
13 For thou hast [h]possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will praise thee, for I am [i]fearfully and wondrously made: marvelous are thy works, and my soul knoweth it well.
15 My bones are not hid from thee, though I was made in a secret place, and fashioned [j]beneath in the earth.
16 Thine eyes did see me, when I was without form: [k]for in thy book were all things written, which in continuance were fashioned, when there was none of them before.
17 How [l]dear therefore are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
18 If I should count them, they are more than the sand: when I awake, [m]I am still with thee.
19 Oh that thou wouldest [slay], O God, the wicked and bloody men, to whom I say, Depart ye from me:
20 Which speak wickedly of thee, and being thine enemies are lifted up in vain.
21 Do not I [n]hate them, O Lord, that hate thee? and do not I earnestly contend with those that rise up against thee?
22 I hate them with an unfeigned hatred, as they were mine utter enemies.
23 Try me, O God, and know mine heart: prove me and know my thoughts,
24 And consider if there be any [o]way of wickedness in me, and lead me in the [p]way forever.
