Hezekiah Celebrates the Passover
30 And Hezekiah sent to all Israel and Judah and wrote letters also to Ephraim and Manasseh, that they should come to the house of Yahweh at Jerusalem to [a]celebrate the Passover to Yahweh, the God of Israel. 2 And the king and his princes and all the assembly in Jerusalem had taken counsel (A)to celebrate the Passover in the second month, 3 since they could not celebrate it (B)at that time, because the priests had not set themselves apart as holy in sufficient numbers, nor had the people been gathered to Jerusalem. 4 Thus the thing was right in the eyes of the king and in the eyes of all the assembly. 5 So they established a decree to make a [b]proclamation pass throughout all Israel (C)from Beersheba even to Dan, that they should come to celebrate the Passover to Yahweh, the God of Israel, at Jerusalem. For they had not celebrated it in great numbers as it was written. 6 (D)And the [c]couriers went throughout all Israel and Judah with the letters from the hand of the king and his princes, even according to the commandment of the king, saying, “O sons of Israel, return to Yahweh, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, that He may return to those of you who escaped and remain from (E)the [d]hand of the kings of Assyria. 7 (F)Now do not be like your fathers and your brothers, who were unfaithful to Yahweh, the God of their fathers, so that (G)He made them an object of horror, as you see. 8 Now do not (H)stiffen your neck like your fathers, but give your hand to Yahweh and enter His sanctuary which He has set apart as holy forever, and serve Yahweh your God, (I)that His burning anger may turn away from you. 9 For (J)when you return to Yahweh, your brothers and your sons will find compassion before those who led them captive and will return to this land. (K)For Yahweh your God is gracious and compassionate, and will not turn His face away from you if you return to Him.”
10 So the [e]couriers passed from city to city through the country of Ephraim and Manasseh, and as far as Zebulun, but (L)they were laughing at them to scorn and mocking them. 11 Nevertheless (M)some men of Asher, Manasseh and Zebulun humbled themselves and came to Jerusalem. 12 The (N)hand of God was also on Judah to give them one heart to do what the king and the princes commanded by the word of Yahweh.
13 Now many people were gathered at Jerusalem to celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread (O)in the second month, a very large assembly. 14 And they arose and took away the altars which were in Jerusalem; they also (P)took away all the incense altars and (Q)cast them into the brook Kidron. 15 Then (R)they slaughtered the Passover lambs on the fourteenth of the second month. And (S)the priests and Levites were ashamed of themselves, and set themselves apart as holy and brought burnt offerings to the house of Yahweh. 16 (T)And they stood at their stations according to the legal judgment for them, according to the law of Moses the man of God; the priests splashed the blood which they received from the hand of the Levites. 17 For there were many in the assembly who had not set themselves apart as holy; therefore, (U)the Levites were over the slaughter of the Passover lambs for everyone who was unclean, in order to set them apart as holy to Yahweh. 18 For a multitude of the people, (V)even many from Ephraim and Manasseh, Issachar, and Zebulun, had not cleansed themselves, (W)yet they ate the Passover (X)otherwise than what was written. For Hezekiah prayed for them, saying, “May Yahweh, who is good, atone 19 (Y)for everyone who prepares his heart to seek God, Yahweh, the God of his fathers, though not according to the rules of cleansing of the sanctuary.” 20 So Yahweh heard Hezekiah and (Z)healed the people. 21 And the sons of Israel present in Jerusalem (AA)celebrated the Feast of Unleavened Bread for seven days with great gladness, and the Levites and the priests praised Yahweh day after day with loud instruments to Yahweh. 22 Then Hezekiah (AB)spoke to the hearts of all the Levites who showed good insight in the things of Yahweh. So they ate for the appointed seven days, sacrificing peace offerings and (AC)giving thanks to Yahweh, the God of their fathers.
23 Then the whole assembly (AD)took counsel to determine to celebrate the feast another seven days, so they celebrated the seven days with gladness. 24 For (AE)Hezekiah king of Judah had contributed to the assembly 1,000 bulls and 7,000 sheep, and the princes had contributed to the assembly 1,000 bulls and 10,000 sheep; and (AF)a large number of priests set themselves apart as holy. 25 And all the assembly of Judah were glad, with the priests and the Levites and (AG)all the assembly that came from Israel, both the sojourners who came from the land of Israel and those living in Judah. 26 So there was great gladness in Jerusalem, because there was nothing like this in Jerusalem (AH)since the days of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel. 27 Then (AI)the Levitical priests arose and (AJ)blessed the people; and their voice was heard and their prayer came to (AK)His holy habitation, to heaven.
The Seven Bowls of God’s Wrath
16 Then I heard a loud voice from (A)the sanctuary, saying to the (B)seven angels, “Go and (C)pour out [a]on the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God.”
2 So the first angel went and poured out his bowl [b](D)on the earth; and it became a loathsome and malignant (E)sore on the [c]people (F)who have the mark of the beast and who worship his image.
3 And the second angel poured out his bowl (G)into the sea, and it became blood like that of a dead man, and every living [d]thing in the sea died.
4 Then the third angel poured out his bowl into the (H)rivers and the springs of waters, and they (I)became blood. 5 And I heard the angel of the waters saying, “(J)Righteous are You, (K)who is and who was, O (L)Holy One, because You (M)judged these things; 6 for they poured out (N)the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them (O)blood to drink. They [e]deserve it.” 7 And I heard (P)the altar saying, “Yes, O [f](Q)Lord God, the Almighty, (R)true and righteous are Your judgments.”
8 And the fourth angel poured out his bowl upon (S)the sun, (T)and it was given to it to scorch men with fire. 9 And men were scorched with [g]fierce heat, and they (U)blasphemed the name of God who has the authority over these plagues, and they (V)did not repent so as to (W)give Him glory.
10 Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the (X)throne of the beast, and his kingdom became (Y)darkened; and they gnawed their tongues because of pain, 11 and they (Z)blasphemed the (AA)God of heaven because of their pains and their (AB)sores, and they (AC)did not repent of their deeds.
12 And the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the (AD)great river, the Euphrates, and (AE)its water was dried up, so that (AF)the way would be prepared for the kings (AG)from the [h]east. 13 Then I saw coming out of the mouth of the (AH)dragon and out of the mouth of the (AI)beast and out of the mouth of the (AJ)false prophet, three (AK)unclean spirits like (AL)frogs; 14 for they are (AM)spirits of demons, (AN)doing signs, which go out to the kings of the (AO)whole [i]world, to (AP)gather them together for the war of the (AQ)great day of God, the Almighty. 15 (“Behold, (AR)I am coming like a thief. (AS)Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his garments, (AT)so that he will not walk about naked and men will not see his shame.”) 16 And they (AU)gathered them together to the place which (AV)in Hebrew is called [j](AW)Har-Magedon.
The Seventh Bowl
17 Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl upon (AX)the air, and a (AY)loud voice came out of the (AZ)sanctuary from the throne, saying, “(BA)It is done.” 18 And there were flashes of (BB)lightning and sounds and peals of thunder; and there was (BC)a great earthquake, (BD)such as there had not been since man came to be upon the earth, so great an earthquake was it, and so mighty. 19 (BE)And the great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the [k]nations fell. (BF)Babylon the great was (BG)remembered before God, to give her (BH)the cup of the wine of the wrath of His rage. 20 And (BI)every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. 21 And (BJ)huge [l]hailstones, about one [m]talent each, *came down from heaven upon men; and men (BK)blasphemed God because of the (BL)plague of the hail, because its plague *was extremely [n]severe.
Yahweh Will Save
12 The oracle of the word of Yahweh concerning Israel.
Thus declares Yahweh who (A)stretches out the heavens, (B)lays the foundation of the earth, and (C)forms the spirit of man within him, 2 “Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a (D)cup [a]that causes reeling to all the peoples all around. Now the one in siege against Jerusalem will also be against (E)Judah. 3 But it will be in that day, that I will make Jerusalem a heavy (F)stone for all the peoples; all who heave it up will be (G)severely [b]injured. And all the (H)nations of the earth will be gathered against it. 4 In that day,” declares Yahweh, “I will strike every horse with bewilderment and his rider with madness. But I will open my eyes to watch over the house of Judah, while I strike every horse of the peoples with blindness. 5 Then the clans of Judah will say in their hearts, ‘[c]A strong support for us are the inhabitants of Jerusalem through Yahweh of hosts, their God.’
6 “In that day I will make the clans of Judah like a (I)fiery laver among pieces of wood and a fiery torch among sheaves, so they will consume on the right hand and on the left all the surrounding peoples, while Jerusalem will again be (J)inhabited in its own place—in Jerusalem. 7 Yahweh also will (K)save the tents of Judah first so that the glory of the house of (L)David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem will not be magnified above Judah. 8 In that day Yahweh will (M)defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the one who (N)stumbles among them in that day will be like David, and the house of David will be like (O)God, like the (P)angel of Yahweh before them. 9 And it will be in that day, that I will (Q)seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.
Mourning for the Pierced One
10 “And I will (R)pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem [d]the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have (S)pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one (T)mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn. 11 In that day there will be great (U)mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the [e]plain of [f]Megiddo. 12 And the land will mourn, each family alone; the family of the house of David alone and their wives alone; the family of the house of Nathan alone and their wives alone; 13 the family of the house of Levi alone and their wives alone; the family of the Shimeites alone and their wives alone; 14 all the families that remain, each family alone and their wives alone.
Jerusalem Refined and Tested
13 “In that day a (V)fountain will be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for (W)sin and for (X)impurity.
I Am the True Vine
15 “(A)I am the true vine, and My Father is the (B)vine-grower. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He [a]cleans it so that it may bear more fruit. 3 (C)You are already [b]clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 (D)Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit from itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he (E)bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is (F)thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned. 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, (G)ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 My (H)Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so [c](I)prove to be My disciples. 9 Just as (J)the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. 10 (K)If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as (L)I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. 11 (M)These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your (N)joy may be complete.
Jesus’ Commandment Is Love
12 “This is (O)My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. 13 (P)Greater love has no one than this, that one (Q)lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are My (R)friends if (S)you do what I command you. 15 No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for (T)all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you. 16 (U)You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and (V)bear fruit, and that your fruit would abide, so that (W)whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you. 17 This (X)I command you, that you love one another.
If the World Hates You
18 “(Y)If the world hates you, [d]know that it has hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but (Z)I chose you out of the world, (AA)because of this the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you, ‘(AB)A slave is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, (AC)they will also persecute you; if they (AD)kept My word, they will keep yours also. 21 But all these things they will do to you (AE)for My name’s sake, (AF)because they do not know the One who sent Me. 22 (AG)If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have [e]sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 He who hates Me hates My Father also. 24 (AH)If I had not done among them (AI)the works which no one else did, they would not have [f]sin; but now they have both seen and hated Me and My Father as well. 25 But this happened to fulfill the word that is written in their (AJ)Law, ‘(AK)They hated Me without cause.’
26 “When the [g](AL)Advocate comes, (AM)whom I will send to you from the Father, (AN)the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, (AO)He will bear witness about Me, 27 [h]and (AP)you will bear witness also, because you have been with Me (AQ)from the beginning.
