M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
He Walks Among Those Who Walk in His Statutes
26 ‘You shall not make for yourselves [a](A)idols, nor shall you set up for yourselves (B)a graven image or (C)a sacred pillar, nor shall you [b]place a (D)carved stone in your land to bow down [c]to it; for I am Yahweh your God. 2 (E)You shall keep My sabbaths and fear My sanctuary; I am Yahweh. 3 (F)If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments so as to do them, 4 then (G)I shall give you rains in their season, so that the land will give forth its produce and the trees of the field will give forth their fruit. 5 (H)Indeed, your threshing will last for you until grape gathering, and grape gathering will last until sowing time. You will thus eat your [d]food to the full and (I)live securely in your land. 6 (J)I shall also give you peace in the land so that (K)you may lie down, with no one making you tremble. (L)I shall also eliminate wild beasts from the land, and (M)no sword will pass through your land. 7 But you will pursue your enemies, and they will fall before you by the sword; 8 (N)and five of you will pursue one hundred, and one hundred of you will pursue ten thousand, and your enemies will fall before you by the sword. 9 So I will turn toward you and (O)make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will (P)confirm My covenant with you. 10 (Q)And you will eat the old supply and clear out the old because of the new. 11 (R)Moreover, I will [e]make My [f]dwelling among you, and My soul will not loathe you. 12 (S)I will also walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people. 13 (T)I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt so that you would not be their slaves, and (U)I broke the bars of your yoke and made you walk erect.
Reject His Statutes and He Will Strike You
14 ‘(V)But if you do not obey Me and do not do all these commandments, 15 if, instead, you (W)reject My statutes, and if your soul loathes My judgments so as not to do all My commandments and so (X)break My covenant, 16 I, in turn, will do this to you: I will appoint over you a (Y)sudden terror, consumption and fever that will waste away the eyes and cause the (Z)soul to pine away; also, (AA)you will sow your seed uselessly, for your enemies will eat it up. 17 And I will [g]set My face against you so that you will be [h]defeated before your enemies; and (AB)those who hate you will have dominion over you, and (AC)you will flee when no one is pursuing you. 18 If also after these things you do not obey Me, then I will discipline you (AD)seven times more for your sins. 19 I will also (AE)break down your pride of strength; I will also give your sky over to become like iron and your earth like bronze. 20 (AF)And your power will be spent uselessly, for your land will not give forth its produce and the trees of the land will not give forth their fruit.
21 ‘If then, you (AG)walk in hostility against Me and are unwilling to obey Me, I will increase the plague on you (AH)seven times according to your sins. 22 (AI)And I will send out among you the beasts of the field, which will bereave you of your children and cut down your cattle and reduce your number so that (AJ)your roads lie desolate.
23 ‘(AK)And if by these things you do not accept My discipline, but walk in hostility against Me, 24 then I will (AL)walk in hostility against you; and I, even I, will strike you (AM)seven times for your sins. 25 I will also bring upon you a sword which will execute (AN)vengeance for the covenant; and when you gather together into your cities, I will send (AO)pestilence among you so that you shall be given over into enemy hands. 26 (AP)When I break your staff of bread, ten women will bake your bread in one oven, and they will bring back your bread by rationed weight so that you will (AQ)eat and not become full.
27 ‘Yet, if in spite of this you do not obey Me, but walk in hostility against Me, 28 then (AR)I will walk in wrathful hostility against you, and I, even I, will discipline you seven times for your sins. 29 Further, (AS)you will eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters you will eat. 30 I then (AT)will destroy your high places and cut down your (AU)incense altars and give your corpses to lie on the corpses of your idols, for My soul shall loathe you. 31 And I will give your cities over as a (AV)waste and will make your (AW)sanctuaries desolate, and I will not (AX)smell your soothing aromas. 32 And I will make (AY)the land desolate, (AZ)so that your enemies who inhabit it will themselves feel desolate because of it. 33 You, however, I (BA)will scatter among the nations and will draw out a sword after you, as your land becomes desolate and your cities become waste.
34 ‘(BB)Then the land will make up for its sabbaths all the days of the desolation, and you will be in your enemies’ land; then the land will rest and make up for its sabbaths. 35 All the days of its desolation it will observe the rest which it did not observe on your sabbaths, while you were living on it. 36 As for those of you who may remain, I will also bring (BC)weakness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies. And the sound of a driven leaf will pursue them, and even when no one is pursuing they will flee [i]as though from the sword, and they will fall. 37 (BD)They will therefore stumble over each other as if running from the sword, although no one is pursuing; and you will have no strength [j]to stand up before your enemies. 38 But (BE)you will perish among the nations, and your enemies’ land will consume you. 39 (BF)So those of you who may remain will rot away in their iniquity in the lands of your enemies; and also in the iniquities of their fathers they will rot away with them.
40 ‘(BG)If they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers, in their unfaithfulness which they committed against Me, and also how they walked in hostility against Me— 41 I also was walking in hostility against them, to bring them into the land of their enemies—(BH)or if their uncircumcised heart becomes humbled so that (BI)they then make up for their iniquity, 42 then I will remember (BJ)My covenant with Jacob, and I will remember also (BK)My covenant with Isaac and (BL)My covenant with Abraham as well, and I will remember the land. 43 (BM)For the land will be forsaken by them and will make up for its sabbaths while it is made desolate without them. They, meanwhile, will be making up for their iniquity [k]because they rejected My judgments and their (BN)soul loathed My statutes. 44 Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them, nor will I so (BO)loathe them as (BP)to bring an end to them, (BQ)breaking My covenant with them; for I am Yahweh their God. 45 But I will remember for them the (BR)covenant with their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that (BS)I might be their God. I am Yahweh.’”
46 (BT)These are the statutes and judgments and laws which Yahweh has given to be between Himself and the sons of Israel by the hand of Moses at Mount Sinai.
Yahweh Is Our Help and Our Shield
33 (A)Sing for joy in Yahweh, O righteous ones;
Praise is (B)becoming to the upright.
2 Give thanks to Yahweh with the (C)lyre;
Sing praises to Him with a (D)harp of ten strings.
3 Sing to Him a (E)new song;
Play skillfully with (F)a loud shout.
4 For the word of Yahweh (G)is upright,
And all His work is done (H)in faithfulness.
5 He (I)loves righteousness and justice;
The (J)earth is full of the lovingkindness of Yahweh.
6 By the (K)word of Yahweh the heavens were made,
And (L)by the breath of His mouth (M)all their host.
7 He gathers the (N)waters of the sea [a]as a heap;
He lays up the deeps in storehouses.
8 Let (O)all the earth fear Yahweh;
Let all the inhabitants of the world (P)stand in awe of Him.
9 For (Q)He spoke, and it was;
He commanded, and it [b]stood.
10 Yahweh (R)nullifies the counsel of the nations;
He frustrates the thoughts of the peoples.
11 The (S)counsel of Yahweh stands forever,
The (T)thoughts of His heart from generation to generation.
12 Blessed is the (U)nation whose God is Yahweh,
The people whom He has (V)chosen for His own inheritance.
13 Yahweh (W)looks from heaven;
He (X)sees all the sons of men;
14 From (Y)the place of His habitation He gazes
On all the inhabitants of the earth,
15 He who (Z)forms [c]the hearts of them all,
He who (AA)understands all their works.
16 (AB)The king is not saved by a mighty army;
A warrior is not delivered by great strength.
17 A (AC)horse is a false hope for salvation;
Nor does it provide escape to anyone by its great strength.
18 Behold, (AD)the eye of Yahweh is on those who fear Him,
On those who (AE)wait for His lovingkindness,
19 To (AF)deliver their soul from death
And to keep them alive (AG)in famine.
20 Our soul (AH)is patient for Yahweh;
He is our (AI)help and our shield.
21 For our (AJ)heart is glad in Him,
Because we trust in His holy name.
22 Let Your lovingkindness, O Yahweh, be upon us,
As we wait for You.
Mankind Is in the Hand of God
9 For I have given all this to my heart and explain [a]it that righteous men, wise men, and their service are (A)in the hand of God. (B)Man does not know whether it will be (C)love or hatred; anything may be before him.
2 (D)It is the same for all. There is (E)one fate for the righteous and for the wicked; for the good, for the clean and for the unclean; for the man who offers a sacrifice and for the one who does not sacrifice. As the good man is, so is the sinner; as the swearer is, so is the one who [b]is afraid to swear. 3 This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is (F)one fate for all. Furthermore, (G)the hearts of the sons of men are full of evil, and (H)madness is in their hearts throughout their lives. Afterwards they go to the dead. 4 For whoever is joined with all the living, there is confidence; surely a live dog is better than a dead lion. 5 For the living know they will die; but the dead (I)do not know anything, nor have they any longer a reward, for the (J)memory of them is forgotten. 6 Indeed their love, their hate, and their zeal have already perished, and they will never again have a (K)portion in all that is done under the sun.
7 Go then, (L)eat your bread in gladness and drink your wine with a merry heart; for God has already accepted your works. 8 Let your (M)clothes be white all the time, and let not (N)oil be lacking on your head. 9 See life with the woman whom you love all the days of your (O)vain life, which He has given to you under the sun—all the days of your (P)vanity; for this is your (Q)portion in life and in your labor in which you have labored under the sun.
Whatever Your Hand Finds to Do
10 Whatever your hand finds to do, (R)do it with all your might; for there is no (S)working or explaining or knowledge or wisdom in (T)Sheol where you are going.
11 I again saw under the sun that the (U)race is not to the swift and the (V)battle is not to the mighty, and neither is bread to the wise nor (W)riches to the discerning nor favor to men who know; for time and (X)misfortune overtake them all. 12 Moreover, man does not (Y)know his time: like fish seized in an evil net and (Z)birds seized in a trap, so the sons of men are (AA)ensnared at an evil time when it (AB)suddenly falls on them.
13 Also this I came to see as wisdom under the sun, and [c]it was great to me. 14 There (AC)was a small city with few men in it, and a great king came to it, surrounded it, and built large siegeworks against it. 15 But there was found in it a (AD)poor wise man, and he provided a way of escape for the city (AE)by his wisdom. Yet (AF)no one remembered that poor man. 16 So I said, “(AG)Wisdom is better than strength.” But the wisdom of the poor man is despised, and his words are not heard. 17 The (AH)words of the wise heard in restfulness are better than the shouting of a ruler among fools. 18 (AI)Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but (AJ)one sinner destroys much good.
Greetings and Grace
1 Paul, (A)a slave of God and an (B)apostle of Jesus Christ, [a]for the faith of God’s (C)elect and (D)the full knowledge of the truth which is (E)according to godliness, 2 in (F)the hope of eternal life, which the God (G)who cannot lie (H)promised [b](I)from all eternity, 3 but (J)at the proper time manifested His word in (K)preaching, (L)with which I was entrusted (M)according to the commandment of (N)God our Savior,
4 To (O)Titus, (P)my genuine child according to our (Q)common faith: (R)Grace and peace from God the Father and (S)Christ Jesus our Savior.
Qualifications of Elders
5 For this reason I left you in (T)Crete, that you would set in order what remains and (U)appoint (V)elders in every city as I directed you, 6 namely, (W)if any man is beyond reproach, the (X)husband of one wife, having faithful children, who are not accused of (Y)dissipation, or (Z)rebellious. 7 For the [c](AA)overseer must be beyond reproach as (AB)God’s steward, not (AC)self-willed, not quick-tempered, not (AD)addicted to wine, not pugnacious, (AE)not fond of dishonest gain, 8 but (AF)hospitable, (AG)loving what is good, sensible, righteous, holy, self-controlled, 9 (AH)holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in (AI)sound doctrine and to reprove those who contradict.
10 (AJ)For there are many (AK)rebellious men, (AL)empty talkers and deceivers, especially (AM)those of the circumcision, 11 who must be silenced because they are upsetting (AN)whole families, teaching (AO)things they should not teach (AP)for the sake of dishonest gain. 12 One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, “(AQ)Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” 13 This testimony is true. For this reason (AR)reprove them (AS)severely so that they may be (AT)sound in the faith, 14 not paying attention to Jewish (AU)myths and (AV)commandments of men who (AW)turn away from the truth. 15 (AX)To the pure, all things are pure, but (AY)to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their (AZ)mind and their conscience are defiled. 16 (BA)They profess to know God, but by their works they (BB)deny Him, being (BC)detestable and (BD)disobedient and (BE)unfit (BF)for any good work.
