Exodus 35

Sabbath Regulations

35 Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of Israel together, and said to them: These are the things the Lord has commanded you to do. Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day you shall have a holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the Lord. Whoever does any work on it must be put to death. You must not kindle fire in any of your dwellings on the Sabbath day.

Offerings for the Tabernacle(A)

Moses said to all the congregation of the children of Israel: This is the thing which the Lord commanded, saying: Take from among you an offering to the Lord. Whoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it as an offering to the Lord: gold, silver, and bronze, and blue, purple, and scarlet, fine linen, goats’ hair, rams’ skins dyed red, and porpoise skins, and acacia wood, oil for the light, and spices for anointing oil, and for the fragrant incense, onyx stones, and gemstones to be set for the ephod and for the breastplate.

10 Every skilled craftsman among you shall come and make all that the Lord has commanded: 11 the tabernacle with its tent and its covering, its hooks and its boards, its bars, its pillars, and its sockets; 12 the ark with its poles, the mercy seat, and the veil that conceals it; 13 the table with its poles, and all its utensils, and the showbread; 14 the lampstand also for the light and its utensils and its lamps, and the oil for the light; 15 and the incense altar with its poles, and the anointing oil and the fragrant incense, and the hanging for the door at the entrance of the tabernacle; 16 the altar of burnt offering with its bronze grating, its poles, and all its utensils, the basin and its stand; 17 the hangings of the court, its pillars and their sockets, and the curtain for the gate of the court; 18 the pegs of the tabernacle and the pegs of the court and their cords; 19 the woven garments for serving in the holy place, the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments of his sons, to minister as priests.

20 Then all the congregation of the children of Israel departed from the presence of Moses. 21 Everyone whose heart stirred him and everyone whose spirit was willing came and brought the Lord’s offering for the work of the tent of meeting and for all its service and for the holy garments. 22 They came, both men and women, as many as had willing hearts, and brought brooches, earrings, rings and bracelets, all kinds of gold jewelry, and everyone that offered an offering of gold to the Lord. 23 Everyone who had blue, purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats’ hair, and red skins of rams, and porpoise skins, brought them. 24 Everyone who was making a contribution of silver and bronze brought the Lord’s offering, and everyone who had acacia wood for any work of the service brought it. 25 All the women that were skilled spun with their hands and brought what they had spun, both of blue, purple, and scarlet, and of fine linen. 26 All the women whose hearts stirred them to action and were skilled spun goats’ hair. 27 The leaders brought onyx stones and gemstones to be set for the ephod and for the breastplate, 28 and spice and oil for the light, and for the anointing oil, and for the fragrant incense. 29 The children of Israel brought a willing offering to the Lord, every man and woman whose heart was willing to bring material for all the work which the Lord had commanded through Moses to be made.

Bezalel and Oholiab(B)

30 Moses said to the children of Israel: See, the Lord has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. 31 And He has filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of craftsmanship, 32 to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, and in bronze, 33 and in the cutting of stones for settings and in the carving of wood in order to make every manner of artistic work. 34 He also has put in his heart to teach, both he and Oholiab, the son of Ahisamak, of the tribe of Dan. 35 He has filled them with skill to do all manner of work as craftsmen; as designers; as embroiderers in blue, in purple, in scarlet, and in fine linen; and as weavers: as craftsmen of every work and artistic designers.

John 14

Jesus the Way to the Father

14 “Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God. Believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places. If it were not so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, you may be also. You know where I am going, and you know the way.”

Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going. How can we know the way?”

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him.”

Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and that is sufficient for us.”

Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you such a long time, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father. So how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own authority. But the Father who lives in Me does the works. 11 Believe Me that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me. Or else believe Me on account of the works themselves. 12 Truly, truly I say to you, he who believes in Me will do the works that I do also. And he will do greater works than these, because I am going to My Father. 13 I will do whatever you ask in My name, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

The Promise of the Spirit

15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Counselor, that He may be with you forever: 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, for it does not see Him, neither does it know Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you, and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you fatherless. I will come to you. 19 Yet a little while and the world will see Me no more. But you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. 20 On that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you. 21 He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father. And I will love him and will reveal Myself to him.”

22 Then Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will reveal Yourself to us, but not to the world?”

23 Jesus answered him, “If a man loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him, and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words. The word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.

25 “I have spoken these things to you while I am still with you. 26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you. 27 Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

28 “You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and am returning to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I. 29 Now I have told you before it happens so that, when it happens, you may believe. 30 After this I will not speak much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over Me. 31 But I do as the Father has commanded Me so that the world may know that I love the Father.

“Rise, let us go from here.

Proverbs 11

11 A false balance is abomination to the Lord,
but a just weight is His delight.

When pride comes, then comes shame;
but with the humble is wisdom.

The integrity of the upright will guide them,
but the perverseness of transgressors will destroy them.

Riches do not profit in the day of wrath,
    but righteousness delivers from death.

The righteousness of the upright will direct his way,
but the wicked will fall by his own wickedness.

The righteousness of the upright will deliver them,
but transgressors will be taken by their schemes.

When a wicked man dies, his expectation will perish,
and the hope of unjust men perishes.

The righteous is delivered out of trouble,
and the wicked comes in his place.

A hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor,
but through knowledge the just will be delivered.

10 When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices;
and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.

11 By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted,
but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.

12 He who is void of wisdom despises his neighbor,
but a man of understanding holds his peace.

13 A talebearer reveals secrets,
but he who is of a faithful spirit conceals the matter.

14 Where there is no counsel, the people fall;
but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.

15 He who puts up a pledge for a stranger will suffer for it,
and he who hates being a pledge is secure.

16 A gracious woman retains honor,
    but ruthless men retain riches.

17 The merciful man does good to his own soul,
but he who is cruel troubles his own body.

18 The wicked works a deceitful work,
but to him who sows righteousness will be a sure reward.

19 As righteousness tends to life,
so he who pursues evil pursues it to his own death.

20 Those who are of a perverse heart are abomination to the Lord,
but such as are upright in their way are His delight.

21 Though be assured, the wicked will not be unpunished,
but the posterity of the righteous will be delivered.

22 As a jewel of gold in a swine’s snout,
so is a fair woman who is without discretion.

23 The desire of the righteous is only good,
but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.

24 There is one who scatters, yet increases;
and there is one who withholds more than is right, but it leads to poverty.

25 The generous soul will be made rich,
and he who waters will be watered also himself.

26 The people will curse him who withholds grain,
but blessing will be upon the head of him who sells it.

27 He who diligently seeks good procures favor,
but he who seeks mischief, it will come to him.

28 He who trusts in his riches will fall,
but the righteous will flourish as a branch.

29 He who troubles his own house will inherit the wind,
and the fool will be servant to the wise of heart.

30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,
and he who wins souls is wise.

31 If the righteous will be recompensed in the earth,
how much more the wicked and the sinner.

Ephesians 4

Unity of the Body

I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, exhort you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you were called. With all humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another in love, be eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, even as you were called in one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of the gift of Christ. Therefore He says:

“When He ascended on high,
    He led captivity captive,
    and gave gifts to men.”[a]

(In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that He also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He who descended is also He who ascended far above all the heavens that He might fill all things.)

11 He gave some to be apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints, for the work of service, and for the building up of the body of Christ, 13 until we all come into the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, into a complete man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so we may no longer be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about with every wind of doctrine by the trickery of men, by craftiness with deceitful scheming. 15 But, speaking the truth in love, we may grow up in all things into Him, who is the head, Christ Himself, 16 from whom the whole body is joined together and connected by every joint and ligament, as every part effectively does its work and grows, building itself up in love.

The Old Life and New Life

17 Therefore this I say and testify in the Lord, that from now on you walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their minds, 18 having their understanding darkened, excluded from the life of God through the ignorance that is within them, due to the hardness of their hearts. 19 Being calloused they have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness.

20 But you did not learn about Christ in this manner, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 that you put off the former way of life in the old nature, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 and that you put on the new nature, which was created according to God in righteousness and true holiness.

Rules for the New Life

25 Therefore, putting away lying, let every man speak truthfully with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. 26 Be angry but do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your anger. 27 Do not give place to the devil. 28 Let him who steals steal no more. Instead, let him labor, working with his hands things which are good, that he may have something to share with him who is in need.

29 Let no unwholesome word proceed out of your mouth, but only that which is good for building up, that it may give grace to the listeners. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you are sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outbursts, and blasphemies, with all malice, be taken away from you. 32 And be kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you.
