Version
Deuteronomy 25

25 “When a legal dispute takes place[a] between men and they come near to the court, and the judges judge with respect to them, then they shall declare the righteous to be in the right and they shall condemn the wicked, then it will happen if the guilty one deserves beating,[b] then the judge shall make him lie, and he shall beat him before him,[c] according to[d] the prescribed number of lashes proportionate to the offense.[e] He may beat him with forty lashes, and he shall not do more than these, so that he will not beat more in addition to these many blows,[f] and your countryman[g] would be[h] degraded before your eyes.

“You shall not muzzle an ox when he is threshing.[i]

“When brothers dwell together and one of them dies and has no son, the wife of the deceased shall not become the wife of a man of another family;[j] her brother-in-law shall have sex with her,[k] and he shall take her to himself[l] as a wife, and he shall perform his duty as a brother-in-law with respect to her. And then the firstborn that she bears shall represent his dead brother,[m] so that his name is not blotted out from Israel. But if the man does not want to take his sister-in-law, then his sister-in-law shall go up to the gate, to the elders, and she shall say, ‘My brother-in-law refused to perpetuate his brother’s name[n] in Israel, for he is not willing to marry me.’[o] Then the elders of his town shall summon him and speak to him, and if he persists and says, ‘I do not desire to[p] marry her’ then his sister-in-law shall go near him before the eyes of the elders, and she shall pull off his sandal from his foot, and she shall spit in his face, and she shall declare[q] and she shall say, ‘This is how it is done to the man who does not build the house of his brother.’ 10 And his family[r] shall be called in Israel, ‘The house where the sandal was pulled off.’[s]

11 “If a man and his brother fight each other and the wife of the one man comes near to rescue her husband from the hand of his attacker and she stretches out her hand and she seizes his genitals, 12 then you shall cut off her hand; your eye shall not take pity.

13 “There shall not be for your use[t] in your bag two kinds of stone weights, a large one and a small one.[u] 14 There shall not be in your house for your use[v] two kinds of measures.[w] 15 Rather a full and honest weight shall be for your use;[x] there shall be for you a full and honest measure,[y] so that your days on the land that Yahweh your God is giving to you may be long. 16 For detestable to[z] Yahweh your God is everyone who is doing such things,[aa] everyone who is acting[ab] dishonestly.

17 “Remember what Amalek did to you on the journey when[ac] you went out from Egypt, 18 that he met you on the journey and attacked you, all those lagging behind you and when you were weary and worn out, and he did not fear God. 19 And when[ad] Yahweh your God gives rest to you from all your enemies from around about you in the land that Yahweh your God is giving to you as an inheritance to take possession of it, you shall blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens; you shall not forget!”

Psalm 116

Thanksgiving for God’s Deliverance

116 I love him, because Yahweh has heard
the voice of my supplications.[a]
Because he has inclined his ear to me,
I will call all my days.[b]
The ropes of death encircled me,
and the distresses of Sheol found me.
I found trouble and grief.
Then I called on the name of Yahweh:
“O Yahweh, please save my life!”
Gracious is Yahweh and righteous,
and our God is merciful.
Yahweh watches over the simple.
I was brought low, but he gave me victory.
Return, O my soul, to your repose,
for Yahweh has dealt bountifully with you.
For you have rescued me[c] from death,
my eyes[d] from tears, my feet from stumbling.
I will walk before Yahweh
in the land[e] of the living.
10 I believed when I spoke,
“I am afflicted greatly.”
11 I said in my haste,
Everyone[f] is a liar.”
12 What shall I give back to Yahweh
for all his benefits to me?
13 I will lift up the cup of salvation
and proclaim the name of Yahweh.
14 I will pay my vows made to Yahweh
in the presence of all his people.
15 Costly in Yahweh’s view[g] is
the death of his faithful ones.
16 Ah, Yahweh, I am indeed your servant;
I am your servant, the child of your maidservant.
You have loosed my bonds.
17 I will offer to you a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
and proclaim the name of Yahweh.
18 I will pay my vows made to Yahweh
in the presence of all his people,
19 in the courts of the house[h] of Yahweh,
in the midst of you, O Jerusalem.
Praise Yah![i]

Isaiah 52

Yahweh Redeems Zion

52 Awake! Awake; put on your strength, Zion!
Put on the garments of your beauty, Jerusalem, holy city![a]
For the uncircumcised and the unclean shall not continue to[b] enter you any longer.
Shake yourself free from the dust! Rise up; sit, Jerusalem!
Free yourselves from the bonds of your neck, captive daughter of Zion!

For thus says Yahweh:

“You were sold for nothing,
and you shall be redeemed without money.”

For thus says the Lord Yahweh:

“My people went down to Egypt in the beginning, to dwell as aliens there, and Assyria oppressed him without cause.[c] And now what do I have here?”declares[d] Yahweh, “for my people is taken without cause. Its rulers howl,” declares[e] Yahweh—“and my name is reviled continually, all day. Therefore my people shall know my name, therefore in that day, that I am the one who speaks. Here am I.”[f]

How delightful on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news,
who announces peace, who brings good news, who announces salvation,
who says to Zion, “Your God reigns as a king.”
The voices[g] of your watchmen! They lift up their voices;[h]
    together they sing for joy;
for they clearly[i] see Yahweh’s return to Zion.
Break forth,
sing for joy together, ruins of Jerusalem,
for Yahweh has comforted his people;
    he has redeemed Jerusalem.
10 Yahweh has bared his holy arm[j] to the eyes of all the nations,
and all the ends[k] of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.
11 Depart, depart, go out from there! You must not touch any unclean thing.
Go out from the midst of it, keep clean, you who carry the vessels of Yahweh.
12 For you shall not go out in haste,
and you shall not go in flight,
for Yahweh is going before you,
and your rear guard is the God of Israel.

The Servant’s Suffering and Exaltation

13 Look, my servant shall achieve success;
    he shall be exalted,
and he shall be lifted up,
and he shall be very high.
14 Just as many were appalled at you—
such was his appearance beyond human disfigurement,
and his form beyond the sons of mankind—
15 so he shall sprinkle many nations;
because of him, kings shall shut their mouths.[l]
For they shall see what has not been told them,
and they shall consider with full attention what they have not heard.

Revelation 22

Paradise Restored

22 And he showed me the river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming out from the throne of God and of the Lamb in the middle of its street, and on both sides of the river[a] is the tree of life, producing twelve fruits—yielding its fruit according to every month—and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. And there will not be any curse any longer, and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his slaves will serve[b] him, and they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And night will not exist any longer, and they will not have need of the light of a lamp and the light[c] of the sun, because the Lord God will give light to them, and they will reign forever and ever[d].

The Time of Fulfillment is Near

And he said to me, “These words are faithful and true, and the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his slaves the things which must take place in a short time.”

“And behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”

And I, John, am the one who heard and who saw these things. And when I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed these things to me. And he said to me, “Do not do that![e] I am your fellow slave, and of your brothers the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God!” 10 And he said to me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near! 11 The one who does evil, let him do evil still, and the defiled, let him be defiled still, and the righteous, let him practice righteousness still, and the holy, let him be holy still.”

12 “Behold, I am coming quickly, and my reward is with me, to repay each one according to what his deeds are! 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”

14 Blessed are the ones who wash their robes, so that their authority will be over the tree of life and they may enter into the city through the gates. 15 Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the sexually immoral people and the murderers and the idolaters and everyone who loves and who practices falsehood.

16 “I, Jesus, sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.”

An Invitation to Respond

17 And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And the one who hears, let him say, “Come!” And the one who is thirsty, let him come. The one who wants, let him take the water of life freely.[f]

A Final Warning

18 I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues written in this book. 19 And if anyone takes away from the words of this book of prophecy, God will take away his share of the tree of life and from the holy city that are written in this book.

20 The one who testifies about these things says, “Yes, I am coming quickly!” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!

21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all.[g]
