Deuteronomy 10

The Tablets Rewritten

10 “At that time Yahweh said to me, ‘(A)Carve out for yourself two tablets of stone like the former ones, and come up to Me on the mountain, and (B)make an ark of wood for yourself. (C)And I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets which you shattered, and (D)you shall put them in the ark.’ So (E)I made an ark of acacia wood and (F)carved out two tablets of stone like the former ones and went up on the mountain with the two tablets in my hand. And He wrote on the tablets, like the former writing, (G)the Ten [a]Commandments (H)which Yahweh had spoken to you on the mountain from the midst of the fire (I)on the day of the assembly; and Yahweh gave them to me. Then I turned and (J)came down from the mountain and (K)put the tablets in the ark which I had made; (L)and there they are, as Yahweh commanded me.”

(Now the sons of Israel set out from [b]Beeroth (M)Bene-jaakan to Moserah. (N)There Aaron died, and there he was buried, and Eleazar his son ministered as priest in his place. (O)From there they set out to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land of brooks of water. (P)At that time Yahweh set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, to stand before Yahweh (Q)to minister for Him and to bless in His name to this day. (R)Therefore, Levi does not have a portion or inheritance with his brothers; Yahweh is his inheritance, just as Yahweh your God spoke to him.)

10 (S)I, moreover, stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights like the first time, and Yahweh listened to me that time also; Yahweh was not willing to destroy you. 11 Then Yahweh said to me, ‘Arise, go on your journey ahead of the people, that they may go in and possess the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.’

Circumcise Your Heart

12 (T)So now, Israel, what does Yahweh your God ask from you, but to [c]fear Yahweh your God, to walk in all His ways and (U)love Him, and to serve Yahweh your God with (V)all your heart and with all your soul, 13 and to keep the commandments of Yahweh and His statutes which I am commanding you today for your good? 14 Behold, (W)to Yahweh your God belong heaven and the [d]highest heavens, (X)the earth and all that is in it. 15 (Y)Yet on your fathers did Yahweh set His affection to love them, and He chose their seed after them, even you above all peoples, as it is this day. 16 (Z)So circumcise [e]your heart, and (AA)stiffen your neck no longer. 17 (AB)For Yahweh your God is the God of gods and the (AC)Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the fearsome God (AD)who does not show partiality nor (AE)take a bribe. 18 He executes justice for (AF)the orphan and the widow, and shows love for the sojourner by giving him food and clothing. 19 (AG)So show love for the sojourner, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt. 20 Yahweh your God you shall fear; Him you shall serve, and to Him you shall (AH)cling, and by His name (AI)you shall swear. 21 He is (AJ)your praise, and He is your God, who has done these great and fearsome things for you which your eyes have seen. 22 (AK)Your fathers went down to Egypt seventy persons in all, (AL)and now Yahweh your God has made you as numerous as the stars of heaven.

Psalm 94

God of Vengeance, Shine Forth

94 O Yahweh, God of [a](A)vengeance,
God of [b]vengeance, [c](B)shine forth!
(C)Be lifted up, O (D)Judge of the earth,
Render recompense (E)to the proud.
How long shall the wicked, O Yahweh,
How long shall the (F)wicked exult?
They pour forth words, they (G)speak arrogantly;
All workers of iniquity (H)vaunt themselves.
They (I)crush Your people, O Yahweh,
And (J)afflict Your inheritance.
They (K)slay the widow and the sojourner
And murder the orphans.
(L)They have said, “Yah does not see,
Nor does the God of Jacob discern.”

Discern, you (M)senseless among the people;
And when will you have insight, (N)you fools?
He who (O)planted the ear, [d]does He not hear?
He who formed the eye, [e]does He not see?
10 He who [f](P)disciplines the nations, will He not rebuke,
Even He who (Q)teaches man knowledge?
11 Yahweh (R)knows the thoughts of man,
[g]That they are vanity.

12 Blessed is the man whom (S)You discipline, O Yah,
And (T)whom You teach out of Your law;
13 That You may grant him (U)calm from the (V)days of calamity,
Until (W)a pit is dug for the wicked.
14 For (X)Yahweh will not abandon His people,
Nor will He (Y)forsake His inheritance.
15 For [h](Z)judgment will [i]again be righteous,
And all the upright in heart will [j]follow it.
16 Who will (AA)arise for me against evildoers?
Who will take his stand for me (AB)against workers of iniquity?

17 If (AC)Yahweh had not been my help,
My soul would soon have dwelt in the abode of silence.
18 If I should say, “(AD)My foot has stumbled,”
Your lovingkindness, O Yahweh, will hold me up.
19 When my anxious thoughts [k]multiply within me,
Your (AE)consolations delight my soul.
20 Can a [l](AF)throne of destruction be allied with You,
One (AG)which forms [m]trouble by statute?
21 They (AH)band themselves together against the [n]life of the righteous
And (AI)condemn [o]the innocent to death.
22 But Yahweh has been my (AJ)stronghold,
And my God the (AK)rock of my refuge.
23 He has (AL)brought back their [p]iniquity upon them
And will [q](AM)destroy them in their evil;
Yahweh our God will [r]destroy them.

Isaiah 38

Hezekiah’s Illness and Recovery

38 (A)In those days Hezekiah became ill to the point of death. And (B)Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him and said to him, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘(C)Set your house in order, for you shall die and not live.’” Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to Yahweh and said, “(D)Remember now, O Yahweh, I beseech You, how I have (E)walked before You in truth and with a (F)whole heart and (G)have done what is good in Your sight.” And Hezekiah (H)wept [a]greatly.

Then the word of Yahweh came to Isaiah, saying, “Go and say to Hezekiah, ‘Thus says Yahweh, the God of your father David, “I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears; behold, I will add (I)fifteen years to your [b]life. And I will (J)deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city.”’

“Now this shall be the (K)sign to you from Yahweh, that Yahweh will do this word that He has spoken: Behold, I will (L)cause the shadow on the stairway, which has gone down with the sun on the stairway of Ahaz, to go back ten steps.” So the (M)sun’s shadow went back ten steps on the stairway on which it had gone down.

A writing of Hezekiah king of Judah after his illness and [c]recovery:

10 I said, “(N)In the middle of my [d]life
I am to enter the (O)gates of Sheol;
I am to be (P)deprived of the rest of my years.”
11 I said, “I will not see Yah,
Yah (Q)in the land of the living;
I will look on man no more among the inhabitants of the world.
12 Like a shepherd’s (R)tent my dwelling is pulled up and removed from me;
As a (S)weaver I (T)rolled up my life.
He (U)cuts me off from the loom;
From (V)day until night You make an end of me.
13 I soothed my soul until morning.
(W)Like a lion—so He (X)shatters all my bones;
From (Y)day until night You make an end of me.
14 (Z)Like a swallow, like a crane, so I chirped;
I (AA)moan like a dove;
My (AB)eyes look wistfully to the heights;
O Lord, I am oppressed, be my (AC)security.

15 (AD)What shall I say?
[e]Indeed, He has spoken to me, and He Himself has done it;
I will (AE)wander about all my years because of the (AF)bitterness of my soul.
16 O Lord, (AG)by these things men live,
And in all these is the life of my spirit;
[f](AH)O restore me to health and (AI)let me live!

17 Behold, for my own well-being I had great bitterness;
But it is You who has [g](AJ)held back my soul from the pit of [h]nothingness,
For You have (AK)cast all my sins behind Your back.
18 For (AL)Sheol cannot thank You;
Death cannot praise You;
Those who go down (AM)to the pit cannot keep watch for Your truth.
19 It is the (AN)living, the living who give thanks to You, as I do today;
A (AO)father makes known to his sons about Your truth.
20 Yahweh is here to save me;
So we will (AP)play my songs on stringed instruments
(AQ)All the days of our life (AR)at the house of Yahweh.”

21 Now (AS)Isaiah had said, “Let them take up a cake of figs and apply it to the boil, that he may live.” 22 Then Hezekiah had said, “What is the (AT)sign that I shall go up to the house of Yahweh?”

Revelation 8

The Seventh Seal

When He opened the (A)seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. Then I saw (B)the seven angels who stand before God, and seven (C)trumpets were given to them.

(D)And another angel came and stood at the (E)altar, having a (F)golden censer; and much (G)incense was given to him, so that he might [a]add it to the (H)prayers of all the saints on the (I)golden altar which was before the throne. And (J)the smoke of the incense went up [b]with the prayers of the saints, out of the angel’s hand, before God. Then the angel [c]took the censer and (K)filled it with the fire of the altar, and (L)threw it to the earth; and there followed (M)peals of thunder and sounds and flashes of lightning and an (N)earthquake.

The Seven Trumpets

(O)And the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound them.

And the first sounded, and there came (P)hail and fire, mixed with blood, and they were thrown to the earth; and (Q)a third of the earth was burned up, and (R)a third of the (S)trees were burned up, and all the green (T)grass was burned up.

And the second angel sounded, and something like a great (U)mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea; and (V)a third of the (W)sea became blood, and (X)a third of the creatures which were in the sea—those which had life—died; and a third of the (Y)ships were destroyed.

10 And the third angel sounded, and a great star (Z)fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a (AA)third of the rivers and on the (AB)springs of waters. 11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood; and a (AC)third of the waters became (AD)wormwood, and many men died from the waters, because they were made bitter.

12 And the fourth angel sounded, and a (AE)third of the (AF)sun and a third of the (AG)moon and a (AH)third of the (AI)stars were struck, so that a (AJ)third of them would be darkened and the day would not shine for a (AK)third of it, and the night in the same way.

13 Then I looked, and I heard [d]an eagle flying in (AL)midheaven, saying with a loud voice, “(AM)Woe, woe, woe to (AN)those who dwell on the earth, because of the remaining blasts of the trumpet of the (AO)three angels who are about to sound!”
