Psalm 111-118

The Lord Praised for His Goodness.

111 [a]Praise [b]the Lord!
I (A)will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart,
In the (B)company of the upright and in the assembly.
(C)Great are the works of the Lord;
They are [c](D)studied by all who delight in them.
[d](E)Splendid and majestic is His work,
And (F)His righteousness endures forever.
He has caused His [e]wonders [f]to be remembered;
The Lord is (G)gracious and compassionate.
He has (H)given [g]food to those who [h]fear Him;
He will (I)remember His covenant forever.
He has made known to His people the power of His works,
In giving them the inheritance of the nations.

The works of His hands are [i](J)truth and justice;
All His precepts (K)are trustworthy.
They are (L)upheld forever and ever;
They are performed in [j](M)truth and uprightness.
He has sent (N)redemption to His people;
He has [k]ordained His covenant forever;
(O)Holy and [l]awesome is His name.
10 The [m](P)fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
All those who [n]follow (Q)His commandments have a good understanding;
His (R)praise endures forever.

Prosperity of One Who Fears the Lord.

112 [o]Praise [p]the Lord!
(S)Blessed is a person who [q]fears the Lord,
Who greatly (T)delights in His commandments.
His [r](U)descendants will be mighty [s]on the earth;
The generation of the (V)upright will be blessed.
(W)Wealth and riches are in his house,
And his righteousness endures forever.
Light shines in the darkness (X)for the upright;
He is (Y)gracious, compassionate, and righteous.
It goes well for a person who (Z)is gracious and lends;
He will [t]maintain his cause in judgment.
For he will (AA)never be shaken;
The (AB)righteous will be [u]remembered forever.

He will not fear (AC)bad news;
His (AD)heart is steadfast, (AE)trusting in the Lord.
His (AF)heart is firm, he (AG)will not fear,
[v]But will (AH)look with satisfaction on his enemies.
[w]He (AI)has given freely to the poor,
His righteousness endures forever;
His (AJ)horn will be exalted in honor.

10 The (AK)wicked will see it and be [x]vexed,
He will (AL)gnash his teeth and (AM)melt away;
The (AN)desire of the wicked will perish.

The Lord Exalts the Humble.

113 [y]Praise [z]the Lord!
(AO)Praise Him, you (AP)servants of the Lord,
Praise the name of the Lord.
(AQ)Blessed be the name of the Lord
From this time on and forever.
(AR)From [aa]the rising of the sun to its setting,
The (AS)name of the Lord is to be praised.
The Lord is (AT)high above all nations;
His (AU)glory is above the heavens.

(AV)Who is like the Lord our God,
Who (AW)is enthroned on high,
Who (AX)looks far down to
The heavens and the earth?
He (AY)raises the poor from the dust,
He lifts the needy from the garbage heap,
To (AZ)seat them with noblemen,
With the noblemen of His people.
He (BA)has the infertile woman live in the house
As a joyful mother of children.
[ab]Praise [ac]the Lord!

God’s Rescue of Israel from Egypt.

114 When Israel went forth (BB)from Egypt,
The house of Jacob from a people of a (BC)foreign language,
Judah became (BD)His sanctuary;
Israel, (BE)His dominion.

The (BF)sea looked and fled;
The (BG)Jordan turned back.
The mountains (BH)skipped like rams,
The hills, like lambs.
What (BI)ails you, sea, that you flee?
Jordan, that you turn back?
Mountains, that you skip like rams?
Hills, like lambs?

(BJ)Tremble, earth, before the Lord,
Before the God of Jacob,
Who (BK)turned the rock into a (BL)pool of water,
The (BM)flint into a fountain of water.

Heathen Idols Contrasted with the Lord.

115 (BN)Not to us, Lord, not to us,
But (BO)to Your name give glory,
Because of Your mercy, because of Your [ad]truth.
(BP)Why should the nations say,
(BQ)Where, then, is their God?”
But our (BR)God is in the heavens;
He (BS)does whatever He pleases.
Their (BT)idols are silver and gold,
The (BU)work of human hands.
They have mouths, but they (BV)cannot speak;
They have eyes, but they cannot see;
They have ears, but they cannot hear;
They have noses, but they cannot smell;
[ae]They have hands, but they cannot feel;
[af]They have feet, but they cannot walk;
They cannot make a sound with their throat.
(BW)Those who make them [ag]will become like them,
Everyone who trusts in them.

(BX)Israel, (BY)trust in the Lord;
He is their (BZ)help and their shield.
10 House of (CA)Aaron, trust in the Lord;
He is their help and their shield.
11 You who [ah](CB)fear the Lord, trust in the Lord;
He is their help and their shield.
12 The Lord (CC)has been mindful of us; He will bless us.
He will bless the house of Israel;
He will bless the house of Aaron.
13 He will (CD)bless those who [ai]fear the Lord,
(CE)The small together with the great.
14 May the Lord (CF)increase you,
You and your children.
15 May you be blessed of the Lord,
(CG)Maker of heaven and earth.

16 The heavens are (CH)the heavens of the Lord,
But (CI)the earth He has given to the sons of mankind.
17 The (CJ)dead do not praise [aj]the Lord,
Nor do any who go down into (CK)silence;
18 But as for us, we will (CL)bless [ak]the Lord
From this time and forever.
[al]Praise [am]the Lord!

Thanksgiving for Rescue from Death.

116 (CM)I love the Lord, because He (CN)hears
My voice and my pleas.
Because He has (CO)inclined His ear to me,
Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.
The (CP)snares of death encompassed me
And the [an]terrors of [ao]Sheol [ap]came upon me;
I found distress and sorrow.
Then (CQ)I called upon the name of the Lord:
“Please, Lord, (CR)save my [aq]life!”

(CS)Gracious is the Lord, and (CT)righteous;
Yes, our God is (CU)compassionate.
The Lord watches over (CV)the simple;
I was (CW)brought low, and He saved me.
Return to your (CX)rest, my soul,
For the Lord has (CY)dealt generously with you.
For You have (CZ)rescued my soul from death,
My eyes from tears,
And my feet from stumbling.
I shall walk before the Lord
In the [ar](DA)land of the living.
10 I (DB)believed when I said,
“I am (DC)greatly afflicted.”
11 I (DD)said in my alarm,
(DE)All people are liars.”

12 What shall I (DF)repay to the Lord
For all His (DG)benefits [as]to me?
13 I will lift up the (DH)cup of salvation,
And (DI)call upon the name of the Lord.
14 I will (DJ)pay my vows to the Lord;
May it be (DK)in the presence of all His people!
15 (DL)Precious in the sight of the Lord
Is the death of His godly ones.
16 O Lord, [at]I surely am (DM)Your slave,
I am Your slave, the (DN)son of Your female slave,
You have (DO)unfastened my restraints.
17 I will offer You (DP)a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
And (DQ)call upon the name of the Lord.
18 I will (DR)pay my vows to the Lord,
May it be in the presence of all His people,
19 In the (DS)courtyards of the Lords house,
In the midst of you, (DT)Jerusalem!
[au]Praise [av]the Lord!

A Psalm of Praise.

117 (DU)Praise the Lord, all nations;
Sing His praises, all peoples!
For His (DV)mercy toward us is [aw]great,
And the [ax](DW)truth of the Lord is everlasting.
[ay]Praise [az]the Lord!

Thanksgiving for the Lords Saving Goodness.

118 (DX)Give thanks to the Lord, for (DY)He is good;
For His mercy is everlasting.
Let (DZ)Israel say,
“His mercy is everlasting.”
Oh let the (EA)house of Aaron say,
“His mercy is everlasting.”
Let those (EB)who [ba]fear the Lord say,
“His mercy is everlasting.”

From my (EC)distress I called upon [bb]the Lord;
[bc]The Lord answered me and (ED)put me in an open space.
The Lord is (EE)for me; I will (EF)not fear;
(EG)What can man do to me?
The Lord is for me (EH)among those who help me;
Therefore I will (EI)look with satisfaction on those who hate me.
It is (EJ)better to take refuge in the Lord
Than to trust in people.
It is (EK)better to take refuge in the Lord
Than to trust in noblemen.

10 All nations (EL)surrounded me;
In the name of the Lord I will certainly (EM)fend them off.
11 They (EN)surrounded me, yes, they surrounded me;
In the name of the Lord I will certainly fend them off.
12 They surrounded me (EO)like bees;
They were extinguished like a (EP)fire of thorn bushes;
In the name of the Lord I will certainly fend them off.
13 You (EQ)pushed me violently so that I [bd]was falling,
But the Lord (ER)helped me.
14 [be](ES)The Lord is my strength and song,
And He has become (ET)my salvation.

15 The sound of (EU)joyful shouting and salvation is in the tents of the righteous;
The (EV)right hand of the Lord performs valiantly.
16 The (EW)right hand of the Lord is exalted;
The right hand of the Lord performs valiantly.
17 I (EX)will not die, but live,
And (EY)tell of the works of [bf]the Lord.
18 [bg]The Lord has (EZ)disciplined me severely,
But He has (FA)not turned me over to death.

19 (FB)Open the gates of righteousness to me;
I will enter through them, I will give thanks to [bh]the Lord.
20 This is the gate of the Lord;
The (FC)righteous will enter through it.
21 I will give thanks to You, for You have (FD)answered me,
And You have (FE)become my salvation.

22 A (FF)stone which the builders rejected
Has become the [bi]chief cornerstone.
23 This came about from the Lord;
It is marvelous in our eyes.
24 This is the day which the Lord has made;
Let’s (FG)rejoice and be glad in it.
25 Please, O Lord, (FH)do save us;
Please, O Lord, do send (FI)prosperity!
26 (FJ)Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord;
We have (FK)blessed you from the house of the Lord.
27 (FL)The Lord is God, and He has given us (FM)light;
Bind the festival sacrifice [bj]to the (FN)horns of the altar with cords.
28 (FO)You are my God, and I give thanks to You;
You are my God, (FP)I exalt You.
29 (FQ)Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
For His mercy is everlasting.
