Chronological
43 Judge me, O God, and defend my cause against the unmerciful people. Deliver me from the deceitful and wicked man.
2 For You are the God of my strength. Why have You put me away? Why do I go so mourning when the enemy oppressed me?
3 Send Your light and Your truth. Let them lead me. Let them bring me to Your Holy Mountain, and to Your Tabernacles.
4 Then I will go to the altar of God, even to the God of my joy and gladness. And upon the harp will I give thanks to You, O God, my God.
5 Why are You cast down, my soul? And why are You disquieted within me? Wait on God; for I will still give Him thanks, my present help and my God. To him who excels: A Psalm to give instruction, committed to the sons of Korah.
44 We have heard with our ears, O God. Our fathers have told us the works that You have done in their days, in the old time.
2 You have driven out the heathen with Your hand and planted them. You have destroyed the people and caused them to go.
3 For they did not inherit the land by their own sword (nor did their own arm save them) but by Your right hand, and Your arm, and the light of Your countenance; because You favored them.
4 You are my King, O God! Send help to Jacob!
5 Through You we have thrust back our adversaries. By Your Name we have trodden down those who rose up against us.
6 For I do not trust in my bow; nor can my sword save me.
7 But You have saved us from our adversaries and have put those who hate us to confusion.
8 We will praise God continually and will confess Your Name forever. Selah.
9 But now, You are far off and put us to confusion, and do not go forth with our armies.
10 You make us turn back from the adversary, and those who hate us get plunder for themselves.
11 You give us as sheep to be eaten and scatter us among the nations.
12 You sell Your people without gain, and do not increase their price.
13 You make us a reproach to our neighbors, a jest and laughing stock to those who surround us.
14 You make us a proverb among the nations, and a nodding of the head among the people.
15 My confusion is daily before me and the shame of my face has covered me,
16 because of the voice of the slanderer and rebuker, because of the enemy and avenger.
17 All this has come upon us. Still, we do not forget You. Nor do we deal falsely concerning Your Covenant.
18 Our heart is not turned back, nor have our steps gone out of Your paths;
19 even though You have struck us down into the place of dragons and covered us with the shadow of death.
20 If we have forgotten the Name of our God, and held up our hands to a strange god,
21 shall not God search this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart.
22 Surely, for Your sake we are killed continually and are counted as sheep for the slaughter.
23 Up! Why do You sleep, O LORD? Awake! Be not far off forever.
24 Why do you hide Your face and forget our misery and our affliction?
25 For our soul is beaten down to the dust. Our belly clings to the ground.
26 Rise up for our succor; and redeem us for Your mercy’s sake. To him who excels on Shoshannim: a song of love to give instruction, committed to the sons of Korah.
45 My heart stirs with good words. I will speak of my works concerning the King. My tongue is as the pen of a swift writer.
2 You are more beautiful than the children of men. Grace is poured in Your lips because God has blessed You forever.
3 Gird Your sword upon Your Thigh, O Most Mighty, Your worship and Your Glory!
4 And prosper with Your Glory! Ride upon the Word of Truth and of humility and of righteousness. So, Your right Hand shall teach You terrible things.
5 Your arrows are sharp to pierce the heart of the king’s enemies. The people shall fall under You.
6 Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. The scepter of Your Kingdom is a scepter of righteousness.
7 You love righteousness and hate wickedness, because God, even Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness above Your fellows.
8 All Your garments smell of myrrh and aloes and cassia, of the ivory palaces where they have made You glad.
9 King’s daughters were among Your honorable women. Upon Your right hand stood the queen in a vesture of gold of Ophir.
10 Hear, O daughter, and consider and incline your ear. Also, forget your own people and your father’s house.
11 So shall the King have pleasure in your beauty; for He is your LORD. And reverence Him.
12 And the daughter of Tyre, with the rich of the people, shall do homage before your face with presents.
13 The King’s daughter is all glorious within. Her clothing is of embroidered gold.
14 She shall be brought to the King in clothing of needlework. The virgins who follow after her (her companions) shall be brought to You.
15 With joy and gladness they shall be brought and shall enter into the King’s palace.
16 Your children shall be in place of your fathers. You shall make them princes through all the Earth.
17 I will make Your Name remembered through all generations. Therefore, the people shall give thanks to You. World without end. To him who excels upon Alamoth: a song committed to the sons of Korah.
49 Hear this, all you people! Give ear, all you who dwell in the world,
2 low as well as high, both rich and poor!
3 My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart is of knowledge.
4 I will incline my ear to a parable and utter my high saying upon the harp.
5 Why should I fear in the evil days, when the iniquity at my heels shall surround me?
6 They trust in their goods and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches.
7 Yet a man can by no means redeem his brother. He cannot give his ransom to God,
8 (so precious is the redemption of their souls, and ceases forever)
9 so that he may yet live forever and not see the grave.
10 For he sees that wise men die; and also that the ignorant and foolish perish and leave their riches for others.
11 They think their houses and their habitations shall continue forever, from generation to generation. And they call their lands by their names.
12 But man shall not continue in honor. He is like the beasts that die.
13 This is the way of those who utter foolishness. Their posterity delights in their talk. Selah.
14 Like sheep they lie in the grave. Death devours them. And the righteous shall have domination over them in the morning. For their beauty shall be consumed, from their house to grave.
15 But God shall deliver my soul from the power of the grave; for He will receive me. Selah.
16 Do not be afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his House is increased.
17 For he shall take nothing away when he dies, nor shall his pomp descend after him.
18 For while he lived, he rejoiced over himself (and men will praise you when you make much of yourself).
19 He shall enter into the generation of his fathers. They shall not live forever.
20 An honored man who does not understand; he is like beasts that perish. A Psalm of Asaph.
84 O LORD of Hosts, how lovely are Your Tabernacles!
2 My soul longs, indeed, and fainted for the courts of the LORD! My heart and my flesh rejoice in the living God!
3 Indeed, the sparrow has found a house, and the swallow a nest for her; where she may lay her young by Your altars, O LORD of Hosts, my King and my God.
4 Blessed are those who dwell in Your House. They will ever praise You. Selah.
5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, in whose heart are Your ways.
6 They, going through the valley of Baca, make wells therein. The rain also covers the pools.
7 They go from strength to strength, until every one appears before God in Zion.
8 O, LORD God of Hosts, hear my prayer! Give ear, O God of Jacob! Selah.
9 Behold, O God Our Shield, and look upon the face of Your Anointed.
10 For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the House of my God than to dwell in the tabernacles of wickedness.
11 For the LORD God is the Sun and Shield. The LORD will give grace and glory; and He will withhold no good thing from those who walk uprightly.
12 O, LORD of Hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in You. To him who excels: A Psalm committed to the sons of Korah
85 LORD, You have been favorable to Your land. You have brought back the captives of Jacob.
2 You have forgiven the iniquity of Your people and covered all their sins. Selah.
3 You have withdrawn all Your anger and have turned back from the fierceness of Your wrath.
4 Turn us, O God of Our Salvation, and release Your anger toward us.
5 Will You be angry with us forever? Will You prolong Your wrath from one generation to another?
6 Will You not turn again and quicken us, so that Your people may rejoice in You?
7 Show us Your mercy, O LORD, and grant us Your salvation.
8 I will listen to what the LORD God will say. For He will speak peace to His people, and to His saints, so that they do not turn again to folly.
9 Surely, His salvation is near to those who fear Him, so that glory may dwell in our land.
10 Mercy and truth shall meet, righteousness and peace shall kiss.
11 Truth shall bud out of the Earth and righteousness shall look down from Heaven.
12 Indeed, the LORD shall give good things and our land shall give her increase.
13 Righteousness shall go before Him and shall set her steps in the way. A prayer of David
87 God laid His foundations among the holy mountains.
2 The LORD loves the gates of Zion above all the habitations of Jacob.
3 Glorious things are spoken of You, O City of God! Selah.
4 I will make mention of Rahab and Babel among those who know me. Behold Palestine and Tyre with Ethiopia. There He is born.
5 And it shall be said of Zion, “Many are born in her; and He, the Most High, shall establish her.”
6 The LORD shall count, when He writes the people, “He was born there.” Selah.
7 Both the singers and the players on instruments shall praise You, “All my springs are in You.” A song, or Psalm, of Heman the Ezrahite, to give instruction; committed to the sons of Korah for him who excels upon Mahalath Leannoth
