Version
Psalm 89:14-108:13

14 (A)Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;
    (B)steadfast love and faithfulness go before you.
15 Blessed are the people who know (C)the festal shout,
    who walk, O Lord, in (D)the light of your face,
16 who exult in your (E)name all the day
    and in your righteousness are (F)exalted.
17 For you are (G)the glory of their strength;
    by your favor our (H)horn is exalted.
18 For our (I)shield belongs to the Lord,
    our king to (J)the Holy One of Israel.

19 (K)Of old you spoke in a vision to your godly one,[a] and said:
    “I have (L)granted help to one who is (M)mighty;
    I have exalted one (N)chosen from the people.
20 (O)I have found David, my servant;
    with my holy oil I have (P)anointed him,
21 so that my (Q)hand shall be established with him;
    my arm also shall strengthen him.
22 The enemy shall not outwit him;
    (R)the wicked shall not humble him.
23 I will (S)crush his foes before him
    and strike down those who hate him.
24 My (T)faithfulness and my (U)steadfast love shall be with him,
    and in my name shall his (V)horn be exalted.
25 I will set his hand on (W)the sea
    and his right hand on (X)the rivers.
26 He shall cry to me, ‘You are my (Y)Father,
    my God, and (Z)the Rock of my salvation.’
27 And I will make him the (AA)firstborn,
    (AB)the highest of the kings of the earth.
28 My steadfast love I will keep for him forever,
    and my (AC)covenant will stand firm[b] for him.
29 I will establish his (AD)offspring forever
    and his (AE)throne as (AF)the days of the heavens.
30 (AG)If his children forsake my law
    and do not walk according to my rules,[c]
31 if they violate my statutes
    and do not keep my commandments,
32 then I will punish their transgression with (AH)the rod
    and their iniquity with stripes,
33 but I will not remove from him my steadfast love
    or be false to my faithfulness.
34 I will not violate my (AI)covenant
    or alter the word that went forth from my lips.
35 Once for all I have sworn (AJ)by my holiness;
    I will not (AK)lie to David.
36 His (AL)offspring shall endure forever,
    (AM)his (AN)throne as long as (AO)the sun before me.
37 Like (AP)the moon it shall be established forever,
    (AQ)a faithful witness in the skies.” Selah

38 But now you have (AR)cast off and rejected;
    you are full of wrath against your (AS)anointed.
39 You have (AT)renounced (AU)the covenant with your servant;
    you have (AV)defiled his (AW)crown in the dust.
40 You have (AX)breached all his walls;
    you have laid his strongholds in ruins.
41 (AY)All who pass by plunder him;
    he has become (AZ)the scorn of his neighbors.
42 You have exalted the right hand of his foes;
    you have made all his enemies rejoice.
43 You have also turned back the edge of his sword,
    and you have not made him stand in battle.
44 You have made his splendor to cease
    and cast his throne to the ground.
45 You have cut short (BA)the days of his youth;
    you have (BB)covered him with shame. Selah

46 (BC)How long, O Lord? Will you hide yourself forever?
    How long will your wrath (BD)burn like fire?
47 (BE)Remember (BF)how short my (BG)time is!
    For what vanity you have created all the children of man!
48 (BH)What man can live and never (BI)see death?
    Who can deliver his soul from the power of (BJ)Sheol? Selah

49 Lord, where is your (BK)steadfast love of old,
    which by your (BL)faithfulness you swore to David?
50 (BM)Remember, O Lord, how your servants are mocked,
    and how I bear in my (BN)heart the insults[d] of all the many nations,
51 with which your enemies mock, O Lord,
    with which they mock (BO)the footsteps of your (BP)anointed.

52 (BQ)Blessed be the Lord forever!
Amen and Amen.

Book Four

From Everlasting to Everlasting

A (BR)Prayer of Moses, the (BS)man of God.

90 Lord, you have been our (BT)dwelling place[e]
    in all generations.
(BU)Before the (BV)mountains were brought forth,
    or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
    (BW)from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

You return man to dust
    and say, (BX)“Return, (BY)O children of man!”[f]
For (BZ)a thousand years in your sight
    are but as (CA)yesterday when it is past,
    or as (CB)a watch in the night.

You (CC)sweep them away as with a flood; they are like (CD)a dream,
    like (CE)grass that is renewed in the morning:
in (CF)the morning it flourishes and is renewed;
    in the evening it (CG)fades and (CH)withers.

For we are brought to an end by your anger;
    by your wrath we are dismayed.
You have (CI)set our iniquities before you,
    our (CJ)secret sins in the light of your presence.

For all our days pass away under your wrath;
    we bring our years to an end like a sigh.
10 The years of our life are seventy,
    or even by reason of strength eighty;
yet their span[g] is but toil and trouble;
    they are soon gone, and we fly away.
11 Who considers the power of your anger,
    and your wrath according to the fear of you?

12 (CK)So teach us to number our days
    that we may get a heart of wisdom.
13 (CL)Return, O Lord! (CM)How long?
    Have (CN)pity on your servants!
14 Satisfy us in the (CO)morning with your steadfast love,
    that we may (CP)rejoice and be glad all our days.
15 Make us glad for as many days as you have (CQ)afflicted us,
    and for as many years as we have seen evil.
16 Let your (CR)work be shown to your servants,
    and your glorious power to their children.
17 Let the (CS)favor[h] of the Lord our God be upon us,
    and establish (CT)the work of our hands upon us;
    yes, establish the work of our hands!

My Refuge and My Fortress

91 He who dwells in (CU)the shelter of the Most High
    will abide in (CV)the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say[i] to the Lord, “My (CW)refuge and my (CX)fortress,
    my God, in whom I (CY)trust.”

For he will deliver you from (CZ)the snare of the fowler
    and from the deadly pestilence.
He will (DA)cover you with his pinions,
    and under his (DB)wings you will (DC)find refuge;
    his (DD)faithfulness is (DE)a shield and buckler.
(DF)You will not fear (DG)the terror of the night,
    nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
    nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.

A thousand may fall at your side,
    ten thousand at your right hand,
    but it will not come near you.
You will only look with your eyes
    and (DH)see the recompense of the wicked.

Because you have made the Lord your (DI)dwelling place—
    the Most High, who is my (DJ)refuge[j]
10 (DK)no evil shall be allowed to befall you,
    (DL)no plague come near your tent.

11 (DM)For he will command his (DN)angels concerning you
    to (DO)guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will bear you up,
    lest you (DP)strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on (DQ)the lion and the (DR)adder;
    the young lion and (DS)the serpent you will (DT)trample underfoot.

14 “Because he (DU)holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him;
    I will protect him, because he (DV)knows my name.
15 When he (DW)calls to me, I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble;
    I will rescue him and (DX)honor him.
16 With (DY)long life I will satisfy him
    and (DZ)show him my salvation.”

How Great Are Your Works

A Psalm. A Song for the Sabbath.

92 (EA)It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
    to sing praises to your name, (EB)O Most High;
to declare your (EC)steadfast love in (ED)the morning,
    and your (EE)faithfulness by (EF)night,
to the music of (EG)the lute and (EH)the harp,
    to the melody of (EI)the lyre.
For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your (EJ)work;
    at (EK)the works of your hands I sing for joy.

How (EL)great are your works, O Lord!
    Your (EM)thoughts are very (EN)deep!
The stupid man cannot know;
    the fool cannot understand this:
that though (EO)the wicked sprout like grass
    and all (EP)evildoers flourish,
they are doomed to destruction forever;
    but you, O Lord, are (EQ)on high forever.
For behold, your enemies, O Lord,
    for behold, your enemies shall perish;
    all evildoers shall be (ER)scattered.

10 But you have exalted my (ES)horn like that of (ET)the wild ox;
    you have (EU)poured over me[k] fresh oil.
11 My (EV)eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies;
    my ears have heard the doom of my evil assailants.

12 (EW)The righteous flourish like the palm tree
    and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13 They are planted in the house of the Lord;
    they flourish in (EX)the courts of our God.
14 They still bear fruit in old age;
    they are ever full of sap and green,
15 (EY)to declare that the Lord is upright;
    he is my (EZ)rock, and there is (FA)no unrighteousness in him.

The Lord Reigns

93 (FB)The Lord reigns; he is (FC)robed in majesty;
    the Lord is (FD)robed; he has (FE)put on strength as his belt.
(FF)Yes, the world is established; (FG)it shall never be moved.
(FH)Your throne is established from of old;
    (FI)you are from everlasting.

(FJ)The floods have lifted up, O Lord,
    the floods have lifted up their voice;
    the floods lift up their roaring.
Mightier than the thunders of many waters,
    mightier than the waves of the sea,
    (FK)the Lord (FL)on high is mighty!

Your (FM)decrees are very trustworthy;
    (FN)holiness befits your house,
    O Lord, forevermore.

The Lord Will Not Forsake His People

94 O Lord, God of (FO)vengeance,
    O God of vengeance, (FP)shine forth!
(FQ)Rise up, O (FR)judge of the earth;
    repay to the (FS)proud what they deserve!
O Lord, (FT)how long shall the wicked,
    how long shall (FU)the wicked exult?
They pour out their (FV)arrogant words;
    all (FW)the evildoers boast.
They (FX)crush your people, O Lord,
    and afflict your heritage.
They kill (FY)the widow and the sojourner,
    and murder (FZ)the fatherless;
(GA)and they say, “The Lord does not see;
    the God of Jacob does not perceive.”

(GB)Understand, O dullest of the people!
    Fools, when will you be wise?
(GC)He who planted the ear, does he not hear?
He who formed the eye, does he not see?
10 He who (GD)disciplines the nations, does he not rebuke?
He who (GE)teaches man knowledge—
11     (GF)the Lord—knows the thoughts of man,
    that they are (GG)but a breath.[l]

12 (GH)Blessed is the man whom you (GI)discipline, O Lord,
    and whom you teach out of your law,
13 to give him (GJ)rest from (GK)days of trouble,
    until (GL)a pit is dug for the wicked.
14 (GM)For the Lord will not forsake his (GN)people;
    he will not abandon his (GO)heritage;
15 for (GP)justice will return to the righteous,
    and all the upright in heart will (GQ)follow it.

16 (GR)Who rises up for me against the wicked?
    Who stands up for me against evildoers?
17 (GS)If the Lord had not been my help,
    my soul would soon have lived in the land of (GT)silence.
18 When I thought, (GU)“My foot slips,”
    your steadfast love, O Lord, (GV)held me up.
19 When the cares of my heart are many,
    your consolations cheer my soul.
20 Can (GW)wicked rulers be allied with you,
    those who frame[m] injustice by (GX)statute?
21 They (GY)band together against the life of the righteous
    and condemn (GZ)the innocent to death.[n]
22 But the Lord has become my (HA)stronghold,
    and my God (HB)the rock of my (HC)refuge.
23 He will bring back on them (HD)their iniquity
    and (HE)wipe them out for their wickedness;
    the Lord our God will wipe them out.

Let Us Sing Songs of Praise

95 Oh come, let us sing to the Lord;
    let us (HF)make a joyful noise to (HG)the rock of our salvation!
Let us (HH)come into his presence with thanksgiving;
    let us (HI)make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
For the Lord is (HJ)a great God,
    and a great King (HK)above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth;
    the heights of the mountains are his also.
The sea is his, for (HL)he made it,
    and his hands formed (HM)the dry land.

Oh come, let us worship and bow down;
    let us (HN)kneel before the Lord, our (HO)Maker!
For he is our (HP)God,
    and we are the people of his (HQ)pasture,
    and the sheep of his hand.
(HR)Today, if you (HS)hear his voice,
    (HT)do not harden your hearts, as at (HU)Meribah,
    as on the day at (HV)Massah in the wilderness,
when your fathers put me to the (HW)test
    and put me to the proof, though they had seen my (HX)work.
10 (HY)For forty years I loathed that generation
    and said, “They are a people who go astray in their heart,
    and they have not known (HZ)my ways.”
11 Therefore I (IA)swore in my wrath,
    “They shall not enter (IB)my rest.”

Worship in the Splendor of Holiness

96 (IC)Oh sing to the Lord (ID)a new song;
    sing to the Lord, all the earth!
Sing to the Lord, bless his name;
    (IE)tell of his salvation from day to day.
Declare his glory among the nations,
    his marvelous works among all the peoples!
For (IF)great is the Lord, and (IG)greatly to be praised;
    he is to be feared above (IH)all gods.
For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols,
    but the Lord (II)made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are before him;
    (IJ)strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

Ascribe to the Lord, O (IK)families of the peoples,
    (IL)ascribe to the Lord glory and strength!
Ascribe to the Lord (IM)the glory due his name;
    bring (IN)an offering, and (IO)come into his courts!
Worship the Lord in (IP)the splendor of holiness;[o]
    (IQ)tremble before him, all the earth!

10 Say among the nations, (IR)“The Lord reigns!
    Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved;
    he will (IS)judge the peoples with equity.”

11 Let (IT)the heavens be glad, and let (IU)the earth rejoice;
    let (IV)the sea roar, and all that fills it;
12     let (IW)the field exult, and everything in it!
Then shall all (IX)the trees of the forest sing for joy
13     before the Lord, for he comes,
    for he comes (IY)to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness,
    and the peoples in his faithfulness.

The Lord Reigns

97 (IZ)The Lord reigns, (JA)let the earth rejoice;
    let the many (JB)coastlands be glad!
(JC)Clouds and thick darkness are all around him;
    (JD)righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.
(JE)Fire goes before him
    and burns up his adversaries all around.
His (JF)lightnings light up the world;
    the earth sees and (JG)trembles.
The mountains (JH)melt like (JI)wax before the Lord,
    before (JJ)the Lord of all the earth.

(JK)The heavens proclaim his righteousness,
    and all (JL)the peoples see his glory.
All worshipers of images are (JM)put to shame,
    who make their boast in (JN)worthless idols;
    (JO)worship him, all you gods!

Zion hears and (JP)is glad,
    and the daughters of Judah rejoice,
    because of your judgments, O Lord.
For you, O Lord, are (JQ)most high over all the earth;
    you are exalted far above (JR)all gods.

10 O you who love the Lord, (JS)hate evil!
    He (JT)preserves the lives of his (JU)saints;
    he (JV)delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
11 (JW)Light (JX)is sown[p] for the righteous,
    and joy for the upright in heart.
12 (JY)Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous,
    and (JZ)give thanks to his holy name!

Make a Joyful Noise to the Lord

A Psalm.

98 Oh sing to the Lord (KA)a new song,
    for he has done (KB)marvelous things!
His (KC)right hand and his holy arm
    have worked salvation for him.
The Lord has (KD)made known his salvation;
    he has (KE)revealed his righteousness in (KF)the sight of the nations.
He has (KG)remembered his (KH)steadfast love and faithfulness
    to the house of Israel.
All (KI)the ends of the earth have seen
    (KJ)the salvation of our God.

(KK)Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;
    (KL)break forth into joyous song and sing praises!
Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre,
    with the lyre and the (KM)sound of melody!
With (KN)trumpets and the sound of (KO)the horn
    (KP)make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord!

(KQ)Let the sea roar, and (KR)all that fills it;
    (KS)the world and those who dwell in it!
Let the rivers (KT)clap their hands;
    let (KU)the hills sing for joy together
before the Lord, for he comes
    to (KV)judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness,
    and the peoples with equity.

The Lord Our God Is Holy

99 (KW)The Lord reigns; (KX)let the peoples tremble!
    He (KY)sits enthroned upon the cherubim; (KZ)let the earth quake!
The Lord is (LA)great in Zion;
    he is (LB)exalted over all the peoples.
Let them praise your (LC)great and awesome name!
    (LD)Holy is he!
(LE)The King in his might (LF)loves justice.[q]
    You have established equity;
you have executed justice
    and righteousness in Jacob.
(LG)Exalt the Lord our God;
    (LH)worship at his (LI)footstool!
    (LJ)Holy is he!

(LK)Moses and Aaron were among his (LL)priests,
    Samuel also was among those who (LM)called upon his name.
    They (LN)called to the Lord, and he answered them.
In (LO)the pillar of the cloud he spoke to them;
    they (LP)kept his testimonies
    and the statute that he gave them.

O Lord our God, you answered them;
    you were (LQ)a forgiving God to them,
    but (LR)an avenger of their wrongdoings.
Exalt the Lord our God,
    and worship at his (LS)holy mountain;
    for the Lord our God is holy!

His Steadfast Love Endures Forever

A Psalm for (LT)giving thanks.

100 (LU)Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
    (LV)Serve the Lord with gladness!
    (LW)Come into his presence with singing!

Know that (LX)the Lord, he is God!
    It is he who (LY)made us, and (LZ)we are his;[r]
    we are his (MA)people, and (MB)the sheep of his pasture.

(MC)Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
    and his (MD)courts with praise!
    Give thanks to him; (ME)bless his name!

(MF)For the Lord is good;
    his steadfast love endures forever,
    and his (MG)faithfulness to all generations.

I Will Walk with Integrity

A Psalm of David.

101 I will sing of (MH)steadfast love and justice;
    to you, O Lord, I will make music.
I will (MI)ponder the way (MJ)that is blameless.
    Oh when will you (MK)come to me?
I will (ML)walk with (MM)integrity of heart
    within my house;
I will not set before my eyes
    anything (MN)that is worthless.
I hate the work of those who (MO)fall away;
    it shall not cling to me.
(MP)A perverse heart shall be far from me;
    I will (MQ)know nothing of evil.

Whoever slanders his neighbor (MR)secretly
    I will (MS)destroy.
Whoever has a (MT)haughty look and an (MU)arrogant heart
    I will not endure.

I will look with favor on the faithful in the land,
    that they may dwell with me;
he who walks in (MV)the way that is blameless
    shall minister to me.

No one who (MW)practices deceit
    shall dwell in my house;
no one who utters lies
    shall (MX)continue before my eyes.

(MY)Morning by morning I will destroy
    all the wicked in the land,
(MZ)cutting off all (NA)the evildoers
    from (NB)the city of the Lord.

Do Not Hide Your Face from Me

A Prayer of one afflicted, when he is (NC)faint and (ND)pours out his complaint before the Lord.

102 (NE)Hear my prayer, O Lord;
let my cry (NF)come to you!
(NG)Do not hide your face from me
    in (NH)the day of my distress!
(NI)Incline your ear to me;
    (NJ)answer me speedily (NK)in the day when I call!

For my days (NL)pass away like smoke,
    and my (NM)bones burn like a furnace.
My heart is (NN)struck down like grass and (NO)has withered;
    I (NP)forget to eat my bread.
Because of my loud groaning
    my (NQ)bones cling to my flesh.
I am like (NR)a desert owl of the wilderness,
    like an owl[s] of the waste places;
I (NS)lie awake;
    I am like a lonely sparrow on the housetop.
All the day my enemies taunt me;
    those who (NT)deride me (NU)use my name for a curse.
For I eat ashes like bread
    and (NV)mingle tears with my drink,
10 because of your indignation and anger;
    for you have (NW)taken me up and (NX)thrown me down.
11 My days are like (NY)an evening shadow;
    I (NZ)wither away like grass.

12 But you, O Lord, are (OA)enthroned forever;
    you (OB)are remembered throughout all generations.
13 You will (OC)arise and have (OD)pity on Zion;
    it is the time to favor her;
    (OE)the appointed time has come.
14 For your servants hold her (OF)stones dear
    and have pity on her dust.
15 Nations will (OG)fear the name of the Lord,
    and all (OH)the kings of the earth will fear your glory.
16 For the Lord (OI)builds up Zion;
    he (OJ)appears in his glory;
17 he (OK)regards the prayer of the destitute
    and does not despise their prayer.

18 Let this be (OL)recorded for (OM)a generation to come,
    so that (ON)a people yet to be created may praise the Lord:
19 that he (OO)looked down from his holy height;
    from heaven the Lord looked at the earth,
20 to hear (OP)the groans of the prisoners,
    to set free (OQ)those who were doomed to die,
21 that they may (OR)declare in Zion the name of the Lord,
    and in Jerusalem his praise,
22 when (OS)peoples gather together,
    and kingdoms, to worship the Lord.

23 He has broken my strength in midcourse;
    he (OT)has shortened my days.
24 “O my God,” (OU)I say, “take me not away
    in the midst of my days—
(OV)you whose years endure
    throughout all generations!”

25 (OW)Of old you laid the foundation of the earth,
    and (OX)the heavens are the work of your hands.
26 (OY)They will perish, but (OZ)you will remain;
    they will all wear out like a garment.
You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away,
27     but (PA)you are the same, and your years have no end.
28 (PB)The children of your servants (PC)shall dwell secure;
    (PD)their offspring shall be established before you.

Bless the Lord, O My Soul

Of David.

103 (PE)Bless the Lord, O my soul,
    and all that is within me,
    bless his holy name!
(PF)Bless the Lord, O my soul,
    and (PG)forget not all his benefits,
who (PH)forgives all your iniquity,
    who (PI)heals all your diseases,
who (PJ)redeems your life from the pit,
    who (PK)crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who (PL)satisfies you with good
    so that your youth is renewed like (PM)the eagle's.

The Lord works (PN)righteousness
    and justice for all who are oppressed.
He made known his (PO)ways to Moses,
    his (PP)acts to the people of Israel.
The Lord is (PQ)merciful and gracious,
    slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
(PR)He will not always chide,
    nor will he (PS)keep his anger forever.
10 He does not deal with us (PT)according to our sins,
    nor repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For (PU)as high as the heavens are above the earth,
    so great is his (PV)steadfast love toward (PW)those who fear him;
12 as far as the east is from the west,
    so far does he (PX)remove our transgressions from us.
13 As (PY)a father shows compassion to his children,
    so the Lord shows compassion (PZ)to those who fear him.
14 For he knows our frame;[t]
    he (QA)remembers that we are dust.

15 As for man, his days are like (QB)grass;
    he flourishes like (QC)a flower of the field;
16 for (QD)the wind passes over it, and (QE)it is gone,
    and (QF)its place knows it no more.
17 But (QG)the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on (QH)those who fear him,
    and his righteousness to (QI)children's children,
18 to those who (QJ)keep his covenant
    and (QK)remember to do his commandments.
19 The Lord has (QL)established his throne in the heavens,
    and his (QM)kingdom rules over all.

20 Bless the Lord, O you (QN)his angels,
    you (QO)mighty ones who (QP)do his word,
    obeying the voice of his word!
21 Bless the Lord, all his (QQ)hosts,
    his (QR)ministers, who do his will!
22 (QS)Bless the Lord, all his works,
    in all places of his dominion.
(QT)Bless the Lord, O my soul!

O Lord My God, You Are Very Great

104 (QU)Bless the Lord, O my soul!
    O Lord my God, you are (QV)very great!
(QW)You are clothed with splendor and majesty,
    covering yourself with light as with a garment,
    (QX)stretching out the heavens (QY)like a tent.
He (QZ)lays the beams of his (RA)chambers on the waters;
he makes (RB)the clouds his chariot;
    he rides on (RC)the wings of the wind;
he (RD)makes his messengers winds,
    his (RE)ministers (RF)a flaming fire.

He (RG)set the earth on its foundations,
    so that it should never be moved.
You (RH)covered it with the deep as with a garment;
    the waters stood above the mountains.
At (RI)your rebuke they fled;
    at (RJ)the sound of your thunder they (RK)took to flight.
The mountains rose, the valleys sank down
    to the place that you (RL)appointed for them.
You set (RM)a boundary that they may not pass,
    so that they (RN)might not again cover the earth.

10 You make springs gush forth in the valleys;
    they flow between the hills;
11 they (RO)give drink to every beast of the field;
    the wild donkeys quench their thirst.
12 Beside them the birds of the heavens dwell;
    they sing among the branches.
13 (RP)From your lofty abode you (RQ)water the mountains;
    the earth is satisfied with the fruit of your work.

14 You cause (RR)the grass to grow for the livestock
    and (RS)plants for man to cultivate,
that he may bring forth (RT)food from the earth
15     and (RU)wine to gladden the heart of man,
(RV)oil to make his face shine
    and bread to (RW)strengthen man's heart.

16 The trees of the Lord are watered abundantly,
    (RX)the cedars of Lebanon (RY)that he planted.
17 In them the birds build their nests;
    the stork has her home in the fir trees.
18 The high mountains are for (RZ)the wild goats;
    the rocks are a refuge for (SA)the rock badgers.

19 He made the moon to mark the (SB)seasons;[u]
    the sun knows its time for setting.
20 (SC)You make darkness, and it is night,
    when all the beasts of the forest creep about.
21 (SD)The young lions roar for their prey,
    seeking their food from God.
22 When the sun rises, they steal away
    and lie down in their (SE)dens.
23 (SF)Man goes out to his work
    and to his labor until the evening.

24 O Lord, how manifold are your works!
    In (SG)wisdom have you made them all;
    the earth is full of your creatures.
25 Here is the sea, great and wide,
    (SH)which teems with creatures innumerable,
    living things both small and great.
26 There go the ships,
    and (SI)Leviathan, which you formed to (SJ)play in it.[v]

27 These (SK)all look to you,
    to (SL)give them their food in due season.
28 When you give it to them, they gather it up;
    when you (SM)open your hand, they are filled with good things.
29 When you (SN)hide your face, they are (SO)dismayed;
    when you (SP)take away their breath, they die
    and (SQ)return to their dust.
30 When you (SR)send forth your Spirit,[w] they are created,
    and you (SS)renew the face of the ground.

31 May the glory of the Lord (ST)endure forever;
    may the Lord (SU)rejoice in his works,
32 who looks on the earth and it (SV)trembles,
    who (SW)touches the mountains and they smoke!
33 I will sing to the Lord (SX)as long as I live;
    I will sing praise to my God while I have being.
34 May my (SY)meditation be pleasing to him,
    for I rejoice in the Lord.
35 Let (SZ)sinners be consumed from the earth,
    and let the wicked be no more!
(TA)Bless the Lord, O my soul!
(TB)Praise the Lord!

Tell of All His Wondrous Works

105 (TC)Oh give thanks to the Lord; (TD)call upon his name;
    (TE)make known his deeds among the peoples!
Sing to him, sing praises to him;
    (TF)tell of all his wondrous works!
Glory in his holy name;
    let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!
Seek the Lord and his (TG)strength;
    (TH)seek his presence continually!
Remember the (TI)wondrous works that he has done,
    his miracles, and (TJ)the judgments he uttered,
O offspring of (TK)Abraham, his servant,
    children of Jacob, his (TL)chosen ones!

He is the Lord our God;
    his (TM)judgments are in all the earth.
He (TN)remembers his covenant forever,
    the word that he commanded, for (TO)a thousand generations,
(TP)the covenant that he made with Abraham,
    his (TQ)sworn promise to Isaac,
10 which he confirmed to (TR)Jacob as a statute,
    to Israel as an everlasting covenant,
11 saying, (TS)“To you I will give the land of Canaan
    as (TT)your portion for an inheritance.”

12 When they were (TU)few in number,
    of little account, and (TV)sojourners in it,
13 wandering from nation to nation,
    from one kingdom to another people,
14 he (TW)allowed no one to oppress them;
    he (TX)rebuked kings on their account,
15 saying, (TY)“Touch not my anointed ones,
    do my prophets no harm!”

16 When he (TZ)summoned a famine on the land
    and (UA)broke all supply[x] of bread,
17 he had (UB)sent a man ahead of them,
    Joseph, who was (UC)sold as a slave.
18 His (UD)feet were hurt with fetters;
    his neck was put in a collar of iron;
19 until (UE)what he had said came to pass,
    the word of the Lord (UF)tested him.
20 (UG)The king sent and (UH)released him;
    the ruler of the peoples set him free;
21 he (UI)made him lord of his house
    and ruler of all his possessions,
22 to bind[y] his princes at his pleasure
    and to teach his elders wisdom.

23 Then (UJ)Israel came to Egypt;
    Jacob (UK)sojourned in (UL)the land of Ham.
24 And the Lord (UM)made his people very fruitful
    and made them stronger than their foes.
25 He (UN)turned their hearts to hate his people,
    to (UO)deal craftily with his servants.

26 He (UP)sent Moses, his servant,
    and Aaron, (UQ)whom he had chosen.
27 (UR)They performed his signs among them
    and miracles in (US)the land of Ham.
28 He (UT)sent darkness, and made the land dark;
    they (UU)did not rebel[z] against his words.
29 He turned their waters into blood
    and (UV)caused their fish to die.
30 Their land swarmed with frogs,
    even in (UW)the chambers of their kings.
31 He spoke, and there came (UX)swarms of flies,
    (UY)and gnats throughout their country.
32 He gave them hail for rain,
    and fiery (UZ)lightning bolts through their land.
33 He struck down their vines and fig trees,
    and (VA)shattered the trees of their country.
34 He spoke, and the (VB)locusts came,
    young locusts without number,
35 which devoured all the vegetation in their land
    and ate up the fruit of their ground.
36 He (VC)struck down all the firstborn in their land,
    (VD)the firstfruits of all their strength.

37 Then he brought out Israel with (VE)silver and gold,
    and there was none among his tribes who stumbled.
38 (VF)Egypt was glad when they departed,
    for (VG)dread of them had fallen upon it.

39 He (VH)spread a cloud for a covering,
    and fire to give light by night.
40 (VI)They asked, and he (VJ)brought quail,
    and gave them (VK)bread from heaven in abundance.
41 He opened the rock, and (VL)water gushed out;
    it flowed through (VM)the desert like a river.
42 For he (VN)remembered his holy promise,
    and (VO)Abraham, his servant.

43 So he brought his people out with joy,
    his (VP)chosen ones with (VQ)singing.
44 And he (VR)gave them the lands of the nations,
    and they took possession of the fruit of the peoples' toil,
45 that they might (VS)keep his statutes
    and (VT)observe his laws.
(VU)Praise the Lord!

Give Thanks to the Lord, for He Is Good

106 (VV)Praise the Lord!
(VW)Oh give thanks to the Lord, (VX)for he is good,
    (VY)for his steadfast love endures forever!
Who can utter the mighty deeds of the Lord,
    or declare all his praise?
Blessed are they who observe justice,
    who (VZ)do righteousness at all times!

(WA)Remember me, O Lord, when you show favor to your people;
    help me when you save them,[aa]
that I may look upon the prosperity of your (WB)chosen ones,
    that I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation,
    that I may glory with your inheritance.

(WC)Both we and (WD)our fathers have sinned;
    we have committed iniquity; we have done wickedness.
Our fathers, when they were in Egypt,
    did not consider your wondrous works;
they (WE)did not remember the abundance of your steadfast love,
    but (WF)rebelled by the sea, at the Red Sea.
Yet he saved them (WG)for his name's sake,
    (WH)that he might make known his mighty power.
He (WI)rebuked the Red Sea, and it (WJ)became dry,
    and he (WK)led them through the deep as through a desert.
10 So he (WL)saved them from the hand of the foe
    and (WM)redeemed them from the power of the enemy.
11 And (WN)the waters covered their adversaries;
    not one of them was left.
12 Then (WO)they believed his words;
    they (WP)sang his praise.

13 But they soon (WQ)forgot his works;
    they did not wait for (WR)his counsel.
14 But they had (WS)a wanton craving in the wilderness,
    and (WT)put God to the test in the desert;
15 he (WU)gave them what they asked,
    but sent (WV)a wasting disease among them.

16 When men in the camp (WW)were jealous of Moses
    and Aaron, (WX)the holy one of the Lord,
17 (WY)the earth opened and swallowed up Dathan,
    and covered the company of Abiram.
18 (WZ)Fire also broke out in their company;
    the flame burned up the wicked.

19 They (XA)made a calf in Horeb
    and worshiped a metal image.
20 They (XB)exchanged the glory of God[ab]
    for the image of an ox that eats grass.
21 They (XC)forgot God, their Savior,
    who had done great things in Egypt,
22 wondrous works in (XD)the land of Ham,
    and awesome deeds by the Red Sea.
23 Therefore (XE)he said he would destroy them—
    had not Moses, his (XF)chosen one,
(XG)stood in the breach before him,
    to turn away his wrath from destroying them.

24 Then they (XH)despised (XI)the pleasant land,
    having (XJ)no faith in his promise.
25 They (XK)murmured in their tents,
    and did not obey the voice of the Lord.
26 Therefore he (XL)raised his hand and swore to them
    that he would make them fall in the wilderness,
27 and would make their offspring fall among the nations,
    (XM)scattering them among the lands.

28 Then they (XN)yoked themselves to the (XO)Baal of Peor,
    and ate sacrifices offered to (XP)the dead;
29 they provoked the Lord to anger with their deeds,
    and a plague broke out among them.
30 Then (XQ)Phinehas stood up and intervened,
    and the plague was stayed.
31 And that was (XR)counted to him as righteousness
    from generation to generation forever.

32 They (XS)angered him at the waters of Meribah,
    and it went ill with Moses on their account,
33 for they (XT)made his spirit bitter,[ac]
    and he (XU)spoke rashly with his lips.

34 They did not (XV)destroy the peoples,
    (XW)as the Lord commanded them,
35 but they (XX)mixed with the nations
    and learned to do as they did.
36 They served their idols,
    which became (XY)a snare to them.
37 They (XZ)sacrificed their sons
    and their daughters to (YA)the demons;
38 they poured out innocent blood,
    the blood of their sons and daughters,
whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan,
    and the land was (YB)polluted with blood.
39 Thus they (YC)became unclean by their acts,
    and (YD)played the whore in their deeds.

40 Then (YE)the anger of the Lord was kindled against (YF)his people,
    and he abhorred his (YG)heritage;
41 he (YH)gave them into the hand of the nations,
    so that those who hated them ruled over them.
42 Their enemies (YI)oppressed them,
    and they were brought into subjection under their power.
43 (YJ)Many times he delivered them,
    but they were rebellious in their (YK)purposes
    and were (YL)brought low through their iniquity.

44 Nevertheless, he looked upon their distress,
    when he (YM)heard their cry.
45 For their sake he (YN)remembered his covenant,
    and (YO)relented according to (YP)the abundance of his steadfast love.
46 He caused them to be (YQ)pitied
    by all those who held them captive.

47 (YR)Save us, O Lord our God,
    and (YS)gather us from among the nations,
that we may give thanks to your holy name
    and glory in your praise.

48 (YT)Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
    from everlasting to everlasting!
(YU)And let all the people say, “Amen!”
    (YV)Praise the Lord!

Book Five

Let the Redeemed of the Lord Say So

107 (YW)Oh give thanks to the Lord, (YX)for he is good,
    for his steadfast love endures forever!
Let (YY)the redeemed of the Lord say so,
    whom he has (YZ)redeemed from trouble[ad]
and (ZA)gathered in from the lands,
    from the east and from the west,
    from the north and from the south.

Some (ZB)wandered in desert wastes,
    finding no way (ZC)to a city to dwell in;
hungry and thirsty,
    their soul (ZD)fainted within them.
Then they (ZE)cried to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he delivered them from their distress.
He led them by (ZF)a straight way
    till they reached (ZG)a city to dwell in.
(ZH)Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
    for his wondrous works to the children of man!
For he (ZI)satisfies the longing soul,
    (ZJ)and the hungry soul he fills with good things.

10 (ZK)Some sat in darkness and in (ZL)the shadow of death,
    prisoners in (ZM)affliction and in irons,
11 for they (ZN)had rebelled against the words of God,
    and (ZO)spurned the counsel of the Most High.
12 So he bowed their hearts down with hard labor;
    they fell down, (ZP)with none to help.
13 (ZQ)Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he delivered them from their distress.
14 He brought them out of (ZR)darkness and the shadow of death,
    and (ZS)burst their bonds apart.
15 (ZT)Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
    for his wondrous works to the children of man!
16 For he (ZU)shatters the doors of bronze
    and cuts in two the bars of iron.

17 Some were (ZV)fools through their sinful ways,
    and because of their iniquities suffered affliction;
18 (ZW)they loathed any kind of food,
    and they (ZX)drew near to (ZY)the gates of death.
19 (ZZ)Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he delivered them from their distress.
20 He (AAA)sent out his word and (AAB)healed them,
    and (AAC)delivered them from their destruction.
21 (AAD)Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
    for his wondrous works to the children of man!
22 And let them (AAE)offer sacrifices of thanksgiving,
    and (AAF)tell of his deeds in (AAG)songs of joy!

23 Some (AAH)went down to the sea in ships,
    doing business on the great waters;
24 they saw the deeds of the Lord,
    his wondrous works in the deep.
25 For he (AAI)commanded and (AAJ)raised the stormy wind,
    which lifted up the waves of the sea.
26 They mounted up to heaven; they went down to the depths;
    their courage (AAK)melted away in their evil plight;
27 they reeled and (AAL)staggered like drunken men
    and (AAM)were at their wits' end.[ae]
28 (AAN)Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he delivered them from their distress.
29 He (AAO)made the storm be still,
    and the waves of the sea were hushed.
30 Then they were glad that the waters[af] were quiet,
    and he brought them to their desired haven.
31 (AAP)Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
    for his wondrous works to the children of man!
32 Let them (AAQ)extol him in (AAR)the congregation of the people,
    and praise him in the assembly of the elders.

33 He (AAS)turns rivers into a desert,
    springs of water into thirsty ground,
34 (AAT)a fruitful land into a salty waste,
    because of the evil of its inhabitants.
35 He (AAU)turns a desert into pools of water,
    (AAV)a parched land into springs of water.
36 And there he lets the hungry dwell,
    and they establish (AAW)a city to live in;
37 they sow fields and plant vineyards
    and get a fruitful yield.
38 (AAX)By his blessing they multiply greatly,
    and he does not let their livestock diminish.

39 When they are diminished and brought low
    through oppression, evil, and sorrow,
40 (AAY)he pours contempt on princes
    and (AAZ)makes them wander (ABA)in trackless wastes;
41 but (ABB)he raises up the needy out of affliction
    and (ABC)makes their families like flocks.
42 (ABD)The upright see it and are glad,
    and (ABE)all wickedness shuts its mouth.

43 (ABF)Whoever is wise, let him attend to these things;
    let them consider the steadfast love of the Lord.

With God We Shall Do Valiantly

A Song. A Psalm of David.

108 (ABG)My heart is steadfast, O God!
    I will sing and make melody with all my being![ag]
Awake, O harp and lyre!
    I will awake the dawn!
I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples;
    I will sing praises to you among the nations.
For your steadfast love is great (ABH)above the heavens;
    your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.

Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!
    Let your glory be over all the earth!
(ABI)That your beloved ones may be delivered,
    give salvation by your right hand and answer me!

God has promised in his holiness:[ah]
    “With exultation I will divide up Shechem
    and portion out the Valley of Succoth.
Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine;
    Ephraim is my helmet,
    Judah my scepter.
Moab is my washbasin;
    upon Edom I cast my shoe;
    (ABJ)over Philistia I shout in triumph.”

10 Who will bring me to the fortified city?
    Who will lead me to Edom?
11 Have you not rejected us, O God?
    You do not go out, O God, with our armies.
12 Oh grant us help against the foe,
    for vain is the salvation of man!
13 With God we shall do valiantly;
    it is he who will tread down our foes.
