Psalm 96-102

A Call to Worship the Lord the Righteous Judge.

96 (A)Sing to the Lord a (B)new song;
Sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the Lord, bless His name;
(C)Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.
Tell of (D)His glory among the nations,
His wonderful deeds among all the peoples.
For (E)great is the Lord, and (F)greatly to be praised;
He is to be (G)feared (H)above all gods.
For (I)all the gods of the peoples are [a]idols,
But (J)the Lord made the heavens.
(K)Splendor and majesty are before Him,
Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.

[b]Ascribe to the Lord, you (L)families of the peoples,
[c](M)Ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
[d]Ascribe to the Lord the (N)glory of His name;
Bring an [e](O)offering and come into His courtyards.
(P)Worship the Lord in [f]holy attire;
(Q)Tremble before Him, all the earth.
10 Say among the nations, “(R)The Lord reigns;
Indeed, the (S)world is firmly established, it will not be moved;
He will (T)judge the peoples fairly.”

11 May the (U)heavens be joyful, and may the (V)earth rejoice;
May (W)the sea [g]roar, and [h]all it contains;
12 May the (X)field be jubilant, and all that is in it.
Then all the (Y)trees of the forest will sing for joy
13 Before the Lord, (Z)for He is coming,
For He is coming to judge the earth.
(AA)He will judge the world in righteousness,
And the peoples in His faithfulness.

The Lords Power and Dominion.

97 (AB)The Lord [i]reigns, may the (AC)earth rejoice;
May the many [j](AD)islands be joyful.
(AE)Clouds and thick darkness surround Him;
(AF)Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne.
(AG)Fire goes before Him
And (AH)burns up His enemies all around.
His (AI)lightning lit up the world;
The earth saw it and (AJ)trembled.
The mountains (AK)melted like wax at the presence of the Lord,
At the presence of the (AL)Lord of the whole earth.
The (AM)heavens declare His righteousness,
And (AN)all the peoples have seen His glory.

May all those be ashamed who serve (AO)carved images,
Who boast in (AP)idols;
[k](AQ)Worship Him, all you [l]gods.
Zion [m]heard this and (AR)was joyful,
And the daughters of Judah have rejoiced
Because of Your judgments, Lord.
For You are the Lord (AS)Most High over all the earth;
You are exalted far (AT)above all [n]gods.

10 (AU)Hate evil, you who love the Lord,
Who (AV)watches over the souls of His godly ones;
He (AW)saves them from the hand of the wicked.
11 (AX)Light is sown like seed for the righteous,
And (AY)gladness for the upright in heart.
12 Be (AZ)joyful in the Lord, you righteous ones,
And (BA)praise [o]the mention of His holy name.

A Call to Praise the Lord for His Righteousness.

A Psalm.

98 Sing a (BB)new song to the Lord,
For He has done (BC)wonderful things,
His (BD)right hand and His (BE)holy arm have [p]gained the victory for Him.
(BF)The Lord has made His salvation known;
He has (BG)revealed His righteousness in the sight of the nations.
He has (BH)remembered His graciousness and His faithfulness to the house of Israel;
(BI)All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

(BJ)Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth;
(BK)Be cheerful and sing for joy and sing praises.
Sing praises to the Lord with the (BL)lyre,
With the lyre and the [q](BM)sound of melody.
With (BN)trumpets and the sound of the horn
(BO)Shout joyfully before (BP)the King, the Lord.

May the (BQ)sea roar and [r]all it contains,
The (BR)world and those who dwell in it.
May the (BS)rivers clap their hands,
May the (BT)mountains sing together for joy
Before the Lord, for He is coming to (BU)judge the earth;
He will judge the world with righteousness
And (BV)the peoples with fairness.

Praise to the Lord for His Faithfulness to Israel.

99 (BW)The Lord reigns, [s]the peoples tremble!
He (BX)sits enthroned above the cherubim, [t]the earth quakes!
The Lord [u]is (BY)great in Zion,
And He is (BZ)exalted above all the peoples.
May they praise Your (CA)great and awesome name;
(CB)Holy is [v]He.
The [w]strength of the King (CC)loves [x]justice;
You have established [y](CD)order;
You have (CE)executed [z]justice and righteousness in Jacob.
[aa](CF)Exalt the Lord our God
And (CG)worship at His footstool;
(CH)Holy is He.

(CI)Moses and Aaron were among His (CJ)priests,
And (CK)Samuel was among those who (CL)called on His name;
They (CM)called upon the Lord and He answered them.
He (CN)spoke to them in the pillar of cloud;
They (CO)kept His testimonies
And the statute that He gave them.
Lord our God, You (CP)answered them;
You were a (CQ)forgiving God to them,
And yet an (CR)avenger of their evil deeds.
Exalt the Lord our God
And worship at His holy hill,
For the Lord our God is holy.

All People Exhorted to Praise God.

A Psalm for [ab]Thanksgiving.

100 (CS)Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth.
(CT)Serve the Lord with jubilation;
(CU)Come before Him with rejoicing.
Know that (CV)the Lord [ac]Himself is God;
It is He who has (CW)made us, and [ad]not we ourselves;
We are (CX)His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Enter His gates (CY)with [ae]thanksgiving,
And His courtyards with praise.
Give thanks to Him, (CZ)bless His name.
For (DA)the Lord is good;
(DB)His mercy is everlasting
And His (DC)faithfulness is to all generations.

The Psalmist’s Profession of Uprightness.

A Psalm of David.

101 I will (DD)sing of mercy and [af]justice;
To You, Lord, I will sing praises.
I will (DE)carefully attend to the [ag]blameless way.
When will You come to me?
I will walk within my house in the [ah](DF)integrity of my heart.
I will set no (DG)worthless thing before my eyes;
I hate the [ai]work of those who (DH)fall away;
It shall not cling to me.
A (DI)perverse heart shall leave me;
I will know no evil.
Whoever secretly (DJ)slanders his neighbor, him I will [aj]destroy;
I will not endure one who has a (DK)haughty look and an arrogant heart.

My eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me;
One who walks in a [ak](DL)blameless way is one who will serve me.
One who (DM)practices deceit shall not dwell within my house;
One who speaks lies (DN)shall not [al]maintain his position before me.
(DO)Every morning I will [am](DP)destroy all the wicked of the land,
So as to (DQ)eliminate from the (DR)city of the Lord all those who do injustice.

Prayer of an Afflicted Man for Mercy on Himself and on Zion.

A Prayer of the afflicted when he is weak and [an]pours out his complaint before the Lord.

102 (DS)Hear my prayer, Lord!
And let my cry for help (DT)come to You.
(DU)Do not hide Your face from me on the day of my distress;
(DV)Incline Your ear to me;
On the day when I call (DW)answer me quickly.
For my days (DX)have ended in smoke,
And my (DY)bones have been scorched like a hearth.
My heart (DZ)has been struck like [ao]grass and has (EA)withered,
Indeed, I (EB)forget to eat my bread.
Because of the [ap]loudness of my groaning
My (EC)bones [aq]cling to my flesh.
I resemble a (ED)pelican of the wilderness;
I have become like an owl of the ruins.
I (EE)lie awake,
I have become like a solitary bird on a housetop.

My enemies (EF)have taunted me all day long;
Those who [ar](EG)deride me [as]have used my name as a (EH)curse.
For I have eaten ashes like bread,
And (EI)mixed my drink with weeping
10 (EJ)Because of Your indignation and Your wrath;
For You have (EK)lifted me up and thrown me away.
11 My days are like a [at](EL)lengthened shadow,
And [au]I (EM)wither away like [av]grass.

12 But You, Lord, [aw](EN)remain forever,
And Your [ax](EO)name remains to all generations.
13 You will (EP)arise and have (EQ)compassion on Zion;
For (ER)it is time to be gracious to her,
For the (ES)appointed time has come.
14 Surely Your servants [ay]take pleasure in her stones,
And feel pity for her dust.
15 [az]So the [ba](ET)nations will fear the name of the Lord,
And (EU)all the kings of the earth, Your glory.
16 For the Lord has (EV)built up Zion;
He has (EW)appeared in His glory.
17 He has (EX)turned His attention to the prayer of the [bb]destitute
And has not despised their prayer.

18 [bc]This will be (EY)written for the (EZ)generation to come,
[bd]That (FA)a people yet to be created [be]may praise [bf]the Lord:
19 For He (FB)looked down from His holy height;
(FC)From heaven the Lord looked [bg]upon the earth,
20 To hear the (FD)groaning of the prisoner,
To (FE)set free [bh]those who were doomed to death,
21 So that people may (FF)tell of the name of the Lord in Zion,
And His praise in Jerusalem,
22 When (FG)the peoples are gathered together,
And the kingdoms, to serve the Lord.

23 He has broken my strength in the way;
He has (FH)shortened my days.
24 I say, “My God, (FI)do not take me away in the middle of my days,
Your (FJ)years are [bi]throughout all generations.
25 In time of old You (FK)founded the earth,
And the (FL)heavens are the work of Your hands.
26 [bj]Even they will (FM)perish, but You endure;
All of them will wear out like a garment;
Like clothing You will change them and they will pass away.
27 But You are [bk](FN)the same,
And Your years will not come to an end.
28 The (FO)children of Your servants will continue,
And their [bl](FP)descendants will be established before You.”
