Book of Common Prayer
KOPH
145 I have [a]cried with my whole heart: hear me, O Lord, and I will keep thy statutes.
146 I called upon thee: save me, and I will keep thy testimonies.
147 I prevented the morning light, and cried: for I waited on thy word.
148 Mine eyes [b]prevent the night watches, to meditate in thy word.
149 Hear my voice according to thy loving kindness: O Lord, quicken me according to thy [c]judgment.
150 They draw near that follow after [d]malice, and are far from thy Law.
151 Thou art near, O Lord: for all thy commandments are true.
152 I have known long since [e]by thy testimonies, that thou hast established them forever.
RESH
153 Behold mine affliction, and deliver me: for I have not forgotten thy law.
154 Plead my cause, and deliver me: quicken me according unto thy [f]word.
155 Salvation is far from the wicked, because they seek not thy statutes.
156 Great art thy tender mercies, O Lord: quicken me according to thy [g]judgments.
157 My persecutors and mine oppressors are many: yet do I not swerve from thy testimonies.
158 I saw the transgressors and was [h]grieved, because they kept not thy word.
159 Consider, O Lord, how I [i]love thy precepts: quicken me according to thy loving kindness.
160 The [j]beginning of thy word is truth, and all the judgments of thy righteousness endure forever.
SCHIN
161 Princes have [k]persecuted me without cause: but mine heart stood in awe of thy words.
162 I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth a great spoil.
163 I hate falsehood and abhor it, but thy Law do I love.
164 [l]Seven times a day do I praise thee, because of thy righteous judgments.
165 They that [m]love thy law, shall have great prosperity, and they shall have none hurt.
166 Lord, I have [n]trusted in thy salvation, and have done thy commandments.
167 My soul hath kept thy testimonies: for I love them exceedingly.
168 I have kept thy precepts and thy testimonies: [o]for all my ways are before thee.
TAU
169 Let my complaint come before thee, O Lord, and give me understanding [p]according unto thy word.
170 Let my supplication come before thee, and deliver me according to thy promise.
171 My lips shall [q]speak praise, when thou hast [r]taught me thy statutes.
172 My tongue shall entreat of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteous.
173 Let thine hand help me: for I have chosen thy precepts.
174 I have longed for thy salvation, O Lord, and thy Law is my delight.
175 Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee, and thy [s]judgments shall help me.
176 I have [t]gone astray like a lost sheep: seek thy servant, for I do not forget thy commandments.
128 He showeth that blessedness appertaineth not to all universally, but to them only that fear the Lord, and walk in his ways.
A song of degrees.
1 Blessed is everyone that feareth the Lord, and walketh in his [a]ways.
2 When thou eatest the labors of thine [b]hands, thou shalt be blessed, and it shall be well with thee.
3 Thy wife shall be as the fruitful vine on the sides of thine house, and thy [c]children like the olive plants round about thy table.
4 Lo, surely thus shall the man be blessed, that feareth the Lord.
5 The Lord out of Zion shall [d]bless thee, and thou shalt see the wealth of [e]Jerusalem all the days of thy life.
6 Yea, thou shalt see thy children’s children, and peace upon Israel.
129 1 He admonisheth the Church to rejoice though it be afflicted. 4 For by the righteous Lord it shall be delivered. 6 And the enemies for all their glorious show, shall suddenly be destroyed.
A song of degrees.
1 They have oftentimes afflicted me from my youth (may [f]Israel now say)
2 They have oftentimes afflicted me from my youth: but they could not prevail against me.
3 The plowers plowed upon my back, and made long furrows.
4 But the [g]righteous Lord hath cut the cords of the wicked.
5 They that hate Zion, shall be all ashamed and turned backward.
6 [h]They shall be as the grass on the house tops, which withereth afore it cometh forth.
7 Whereof the mower filleth not his hand, neither the gleaner his lap:
8 [i]Neither they which go by, say, The blessing of the Lord be upon you, or, We bless you in the Name of the Lord.
130 The people of God from their bottomless miseries do cry unto God, and are heard. 3 They confess their sins, and flee unto God’s mercies.
A song of degrees.
1 Out of the [j]deep places have I called unto thee, O Lord.
2 Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears attend to the voice of my prayers.
3 If thou, O Lord, straightly markest iniquities, O Lord, [k]who shall stand?
4 But mercy is with thee, that thou [l]mayest be feared.
5 I have waited on the Lord: my soul hath waited, and I have trusted in his word.
6 My soul waiteth on the Lord more than the morning watch watcheth for the morning.
7 Let Israel wait on the Lord: for with the Lord is [m]mercy, and with him is great redemption.
8 And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.
30 Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, (A)The Lord shall roar from above, and thrust out his voice from his holy habitation: he shall roar upon his habitation, and cry aloud, as they that press the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.
31 The sounds shall come to the ends of the earth: for the Lord hath a controversy with the nations, and will enter into judgment with all flesh, and he will give them that are wicked, to the sword, saith the Lord.
32 ¶ Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Behold, a plague shall go forth from nation to nation, and a (B)great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.
33 And [a]the slain of the Lord shall be at that day, from one end of the earth, even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be mourned, neither gathered nor buried, but shall be as the dung upon the ground.
34 Howl, [b]ye shepherds, and cry, and wallow yourselves in the ashes, ye principal of the flock: for your days of slaughter are accomplished, and of your dispersion, and ye shall fall like [c]precious vessels.
35 And the [d]flight shall fail from the shepherds, and the escaping from the principal of the flock.
36 A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and an howling of the principal of the flock, shall be heard: for the Lord hath destroyed their pasture.
37 And the [e]best pastures are destroyed because of the wrath and indignation of the Lord.
38 He hath forsaken his covert, as the lion: for their land is waste, because of the wrath of the oppressor, and because of the wrath of his indignation.
14 But how shall they call on him, in whom they have not believed? [a]and how shall they believe in him, of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, (A)How beautiful are the feet of them which bring glad tidings of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
16 [b]But they have not [c]all obeyed the Gospel: for Isaiah saith, (B)Lord, who hath believed our report?
17 [d]Then faith is by hearing, and hearing by the [e]word of God.
18 [f]But I demand, Have they not heard? (C)No doubt their sound went out through all the earth, and their words into the ends of the world.
19 [g]But I demand, Did not Israel know God? First Moses saith, (D)I will provoke you to envy by a [h]nation that is not my nation, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.
20 (E)And Isaiah is [i]bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not, and have been made manifest to them that asked not after me.
21 And unto Israel he saith, All the day long have I stretched forth mine hand unto a disobedient, and gainsaying people.
10 1 Christ proveth that the Pharisees are the evil shepherds, 8 and by many reasons, that himself 11, 14 is the good shepherd: 19 And thereof dissension ariseth. 31 They take up stones, 39 and go about to take him, but he escapeth.
1 Verily, [a]verily I say unto you, He that entereth not in by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up another way, he is a thief and a robber.
2 But he that goeth in by the door, is the shepherd of the sheep.
3 To him the [b]porter openeth, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
4 And when he hath sent forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
5 And they will not follow a stranger, but they flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
6 This [c]parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them.
7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily I say unto you, I am that door of the sheep.
8 [d]All that [e]ever came before me, are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.
9 [f]I am that door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall [g]go in, and go out, and find pasture.
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and have it in abundance.
11 (A)I am that good shepherd: that good shepherd giveth his life for his sheep.
12 But an hireling, and he which is not the shepherd, neither the sheep are his own, seeth the wolf coming, and he leaveth the sheep, and fleeth, and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.
13 So the hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.
14 I am that good shepherd, and know mine, and am known of mine.
15 As the Father [h]knoweth me, so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for my sheep.
16 [i]Other sheep I have also, which are not of this fold: them also must I bring, and they shall hear my voice: and (B)there shall be [j]one sheepfold, and one shepherd.
17 [k]Therefore doth my Father love me, because (C)[l]I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself: I have power to lay it down, and have power to take it again: this (D)commandment have I received of my Father.
