Psalm 118

118 1 David rejected of Saul and of the people at the time appointed obtained the kingdom. 4 For the which he biddeth all them, that fear the Lord, to be thankful.  And under his person in all this was Christ lively set forth, who should be of his people rejected.

Praise [a]ye the Lord, because he is good: for his mercy endureth forever.

Let Israel now say, That his mercy endureth forever.

Let the house of Aaron now say, That his mercy endureth forever.

Let them that fear the Lord, now say, That his mercy endureth forever.

I called upon the Lord in [b]trouble, and the Lord heard me, and set me at large.

The Lord is with me: therefore I will not fear what [c]man can do unto me.

The Lord is with me among them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon mine enemies.

It is better to trust in the Lord, than to have confidence [d]in man.

It is better to trust in the Lord, than to have confidence in princes.

10 All nations have compassed me: but in the Name of the Lord shall I destroy them.

11 They have compassed me, yea, they have compassed me: but in the Name of the Lord I shall destroy them.

12 They came about me like bees, but they were quenched as a fire of thorns: for in the Name of the Lord I shall destroy them.

13 [e]Thou hast thrust sore at me, that I might fall: but the Lord hath helped me.

14 The Lord is my strength and [f]song: for he hath been my deliverance.

15 The [g]voice of joy and deliverance shall be in the tabernacles of the righteous, saying, The right hand of the Lord hath done valiantly.

16 [h]The right hand of the Lord is exalted: the right hand of the Lord hath done valiantly.

17 I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.

18 The Lord had chastened me sore, but he hath not delivered me to death.

19 Open ye unto me the [i]gates of righteousness, that I may go into them, and praise the Lord.

20 This is the gate of the Lord: the righteous shall enter into it.

21 I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and hast been my deliverance.

22 (A)The stone, which the builders [j]refused, is the head of the corner.

23 This was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes,

24 This is the [k]day, which the Lord hath made: let us rejoice and be glad in it.

25 [l]O Lord, I pray thee, save now: O Lord, I pray thee now give prosperity.

26 Blessed be he, that cometh in the Name of the Lord: [m]we have blessed you out of the house of the Lord.

27 The Lord is mighty, and hath given us [n]light: bind the sacrifice with cords unto the horns of the altar.

28 Thou art my God, and I will praise thee, even my God: therefore I will exalt thee.

29 Praise ye the Lord, because he is good: for his mercy endureth forever.

Psalm 145

145 This Psalm was composed when the kingdom of David flourished. 1 Wherein he describeth the wonderful providence of God, as well in governing man, as in preserving all the rest of his creatures. 17 He praiseth God for his justice and mercy. 18 But specially for his loving-kindness toward those that call upon him, that fear him, and love him:  21 For the which he promiseth to praise him forever.

A Psalm of David of praise.

O my God and King, [a]I will extol thee, and will bless thy Name forever and ever.

I will bless thee daily, and praise thy Name forever and ever.

[b]Great is the Lord, and most worthy to be praised, and his greatness is incomprehensible.

Generation shall praise thy works unto [c]generation, and declare thy power.

I will meditate of the beauty of thy glorious majesty, and thy wonderful works.

And they shall speak of the power of thy [d]dreadful acts, and I will declare thy greatness.

They shall break out into the mention of thy great goodness, and shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.

(A)The Lord is gracious, and [e]merciful, slow to anger, and of great mercy.

The Lord is good to all, and his mercies are over all his works.

10 All thy works praise thee, O Lord, and thy Saints bless thee.

11 [f]They show the glory of thy kingdom, and speak of thy power,

12 To cause his [g]power to be known to the sons of men, and the glorious renown of his kingdom.

13 Thy (B)kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all ages.

14 The Lord upholdeth all that [h]fall, and lifteth up all that are ready to fall.

15 The eyes of [i]all wait upon thee, and thou givest them their meat in due season.

16 Thou openest thine hand, and fillest all things living of thy good pleasure.

17 The Lord is [j]righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.

18 The Lord is near unto all that call upon him, yea, to all that call upon him in [k]truth.

19 He will fulfill the [l]desire of them that fear him; he will also hear their cry, and will save them.

20 The Lord preserveth all them that love him; but he will destroy the wicked.

21 My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord, and all [m]flesh shall bless his holy Name forever and ever.

Jeremiah 23:16-32

16 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Hear not the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you, and teach you vanity: they speak the vision of their own [a]heart, and not out of the mouth of the Lord.

17 They say still unto them that despise me, The Lord hath said, Ye [b]shall have peace: and they say unto everyone that walketh after the stubbornness of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you.

18 For [c]who hath stood in the counsel of the Lord that he hath perceived, and heard his word? Who hath marked his word and heard it?

19 Behold, the tempest of the Lord goeth forth in his wrath, and a violent whirlwind shall fall down upon the head of the wicked.

20 The anger of the Lord shall not return until he have executed, and till he have performed the thoughts of his heart: in the latter days ye [d]shall understand it plainly.

21 (A)I have not sent these prophets, saith the Lord, yet they ran; I have not spoken to them, and yet they prophesied.

22 But if they had stood in my counsel, and [e]had declared my words to my people, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the wickedness of their inventions.

23 Am I a God at hand, saith the Lord, and not a God [f]far off?

24 Can any hide himself in secret places, that I shall not see him, saith the Lord? Do not I fill heaven and earth, saith the Lord?

25 I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesied lies in my Name, saying, I [g]have dreamed, I have dreamed.

26 How long? [h]Do the prophets delight to prophesy lies, even prophesying the deceit of their own heart?

27 Think they to cause [i]my people to forget my Name by their dreams, which they tell every man to his neighbor, as their forefathers have forgotten my Name for Baal?

28 The prophet that hath a dream, let him [j]tell a dream, and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully: [k]what is the chaff to the wheat, saith the Lord?

29 Is not my word even like a fire, saith the Lord? and like an hammer, that breaketh the stone?

30 Therefore behold, I will come against the prophets, saith the Lord, that [l]steal my word every one from his neighbor.

31 Behold, I will come against the prophets, saith the Lord, which have sweet tongues, and say, [m]He saith.

32 Behold, I will come against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the Lord, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their flatteries, and I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they bring no profit unto this people, saith the Lord.

1 Corinthians 9:19-27

19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all men, that I may win the more.

20 (A)And unto the Jews, I become as a Jew, that I may win the Jews: to them that are under the [a]Law, as though I were under the Law, that I may win them that are under the Law:

21 To them that are without Law, as though I were without Law, (when I am not without Law as pertaining to God, but am in the Law through Christ) that I may win them that are without Law:

22 To the weak I become as weak, that I may win the weak: I am made all things to [b]all men, that I might by all means save some.

23 And this I do for the Gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with [c]you.

24 [d]Know ye not, that they which run in a race, run all, yet one receiveth the prize? so run that ye may obtain.

25 And every man that proveth masteries, [e]abstaineth from all things: and they do it to obtain a corruptible crown: but we for an incorruptible.

26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly: so fight I, not as one that beateth the air.

27 But I beat down my [f]body, and bring it into subjection, lest by any means after that I have preached to others, I myself should be [g]reproved.

Mark 8:31-9:1

31 [a]Then he began to teach them that the son of man must suffer many things, and should be reproved of the Elders, and of the high Priests, and of the Scribes, and be slain, and within three days rise again.

32 [b]And he spake that thing boldly. Then Peter took him aside, and began to rebuke him.

33 Then he turned back and looked on his disciples, and rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou [c]understandest not the things that are of God, but the things that are of men.

34 [d]And he called the people unto him with his disciples, and said unto them, (A)Whosoever will follow me, let him forsake himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

35 For whosoever will (B)save his life, shall lose it: but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the Gospel’s, he shall save it.

36 [e]For what shall it profit a man, though he should win the whole world, if he lose his soul?

37 Or what exchange shall a man give for his soul?

38 (C)For whosoever shall be ashamed of me, and of my words among this adulterous and sinful generation, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed also, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy Angels.

2 Christ’s transfiguration. 7 Christ must be heard. 11 Of Elias and John Baptist. 14 The possessed healed. 23 Faith can do all things. 31 Christ foretelleth his death. 33 Who is greatest among the Apostles. 36 Christ taketh a child in his arms. 42 To offend. 50 Salt. Peace.

And (D)he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, that there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death till they have seen the [f]kingdom of God come with power.
