106 1 The people dispersed under Antiochus, do magnify the goodness of God among the just and repentant: 4 Desiring to be brought again into the land by God’s merciful visitation. 8 And after the manifold marvels of God wrought in their deliverance forth of Egypt, And the great ingratitude of the people rehearsed. 47 They do pray and desire to be gathered from among the heathen, to the intent that they may praise the Name of the God of Israel.
Praise ye the Lord.
1 Praise [a]ye the Lord because he is good, for his mercy endureth forever.
2 Who can express the noble acts of the Lord, or show forth all his praise?
3 Blessed are they that [b]keep judgment, and do righteousness at all times.
4 Remember me, O Lord, with the [c]favor of thy people: visit me with thy salvation,
5 That I may see the felicity of thy chosen, and rejoice in the joy of thy people, and glory with thine inheritance.
6 We have [d]sinned with our fathers: we have committed iniquity, and done wickedly.
7 Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt, neither remembered they the multitude of thy mercies, but rebelled at the Sea, even at the red sea.
8 Nevertheless he [e]saved them for his Name’s sake, that he might make his power to be known.
9 And he rebuked the red sea, and it was dried up, and he led them in the deep, as in the wilderness.
10 And he saved them from the adversary’s hand, and delivered them from the hand of the enemy.
11 (A)And the waters covered their oppressors: not one of them was left.
12 Then [f]believed they his words, and sang praise unto him.
13 But incontinently they forgat his works, they waited not for his [g]counsel,
14 But lusted with concupiscence in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.
15 Then he gave them their desire: but he sent [h]leanness into their soul.
16 They envied Moses also in the tents, and Aaron the holy one of the Lord.
17 Therefore the earth opened and [i]swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram.
18 And the fire was kindled in their assembly: the flame burnt up the wicked.
19 They made a calf in Horeb, and worshipped the molten image.
20 Thus they turned their [j]glory into the similitude of a bullock, that eateth grass.
21 They forgat God their Savior, which had done great things in Egypt,
22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and fearful things by the red sea.
23 Therefore he minded to destroy them, had [k]not Moses his chosen stood in the breach before him to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.
24 Also they contemned [l]that pleasant land, and believed not his word,
25 But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the Lord.
26 Therefore [m]he lifted up his hand against them, to destroy them in the wilderness,
27 And to destroy their seed among the nations, and to scatter them throughout the countries.
28 They joined themselves also unto [n]Baal of Peor, and did eat the offerings of the [o]dead.
29 Thus they [p]provoked him unto anger with their own inventions, and the plague brake in upon them.
30 But [q]Phinehas stood up, and executed judgment, and the plague was stayed.
31 (B)And it was [r]imputed unto him for righteousness from generation to generation forever.
32 They angered him also at the waters of (C)Meribah, so that [s]Moses was punished for their sakes,
33 Because they vexed his Spirit, so that he spake unadvisedly with his lips.
34 Neither destroyed they the people, as the Lord had commanded them,
35 But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works,
36 And served their idols, which were their ruin.
37 Yea, they offered their [t]sons, and their daughters unto devils,
38 And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons, and of their daughters whom they offered unto the idols of Canaan, and the land was defiled with blood.
39 Thus were they stained with their own works, and went [u]a whoring with their own inventions.
40 Therefore was the wrath of the Lord kindled against his people, and he abhorred his own inheritance.
41 And he gave them into the hand of the heathen: and they that hated them were lords over them.
42 Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were humbled under their hand.
43 Many [v]a time did he deliver them, but they provoked him by their counsels: therefore they were brought down by their iniquity.
44 Yet he saw when they were in affliction, and he heard their cry.
45 And he remembered his covenant toward them, and [w]repented according to the multitude of his mercies,
46 And gave them favor in the sight of all them that led them captives.
47 Save us, O Lord our God, and [x]gather us from among the heathen, that we may praise thine holy Name, and glory in thy praise.
48 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel forever and ever, and let all the people say, So be it. Praise ye the Lord.
22 5 King Balak sendeth for Balaam to curse the Israelites. 12 The Lord forbiddeth him to go. 22 The Angel of the Lord meeteth him, and his ass speaketh. 38 Balaam protesteth that he will speak nothing, but that which the Lord putteth in his mouth.
1 After, the children of Israel departed and pitched in the plain of Moab on the [a]other side of Jordan from Jericho.
2 ¶ Now Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.
3 And the Moabites were sore afraid of the people, because they were many, and Moab [b]fretted against the children of Israel.
4 Therefore Moab said unto the [c]Elders of Midian, Now shall this multitude lick up all that are round about us, as an ox licketh up the grass of the field: and Balak the son of Zippor was King of the Moabites at that time.
5 (A)He sent messengers therefore unto Balaam the son of Beor to Pethor (which is by the [d]river of the land of the children of his folk) to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out of Egypt, which cover the face of the earth, and lie over against me.
6 Come now therefore, I pray thee, and curse me this people (for they are stronger than I) so it may be that I shall be able to smite them, and to drive them out of the land: for I know that he, whom thou blessest, is blessed, and he whom thou cursest, shall be cursed.
7 And the Elders of Moab, and the Elders of Midian departed, having [e]the reward of the soothsaying in their hand, and they came unto Balaam, and told him the words of Balak.
8 Who answered them, Tarry here this night, and I will give you an answer, as the Lord shall say unto me. So [f]the princes of Moab abode with Balaam.
9 Then God came unto Balaam, and said, What men are these with thee?
10 And Baalam said unto God, Balak the son of Zippor king of Moab hath sent unto me, saying,
11 Behold, there is a people come out of Egypt, and covereth the face of the earth: come now, curse them for my sake: so it may be that I shall be able to overcome them in battle, and to drive them out.
12 And God [g]said unto Balaam, Go not thou with them, neither curse the people, for they are blessed.
13 And Balaam rose up in the morning, and said unto the princes of Balak, Return unto your land: for the Lord hath refused to give [h]me leave to go with you.
14 So the princes of Moab rose up, and went unto Balak, and said, Balaam hath refused to come with us.
15 Balak yet sent again more princes, and more honorable than they,
16 Who came to Balaam, and said to him, Thus saith Balak the son of Zippor, [i]Be not thou stayed, I pray thee, from coming unto me.
17 For I will promote thee unto great honor, and will do whatsoever thou sayest unto me: come therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people.
18 And Balaam answered, and said unto the servants of Balak, (B)If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the Lord my God, to do less or more.
19 But now, I pray you, tarry here this night, that I may wit, what the Lord will say unto me [j]more.
20 And God came unto Balaam by night, and said unto him, If the men come to call thee, rise up, and go with them: but only what thing I say unto thee, that shalt thou do.
21 So Balaam rose up early, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.
12 [a]Let not sin [b]reign therefore in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof:
13 Neither [c]give ye your [d]members, as [e]weapons of unrighteousness unto sin: but give yourselves unto God, as they that are alive from the dead, and give your members as weapons of righteousness unto God.
14 [f]For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the Law, but under grace.
15 [g]What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the Law, but under grace? God forbid.
16 (A)Know ye not, that to whomsoever ye give yourselves as servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey, whether it be of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
17 [h]But God be thanked, that ye have been the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart unto the [i]form of the doctrine, whereunto ye were delivered.
18 Being then made free from sin, ye are made the servants of righteousness.
19 I speak after the manner of man, because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have given your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity, to commit iniquity, so now give your members servants unto righteousness in holiness.
20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were [j]freed from righteousness.
21 [k]What fruit had ye then in those things, whereof ye are now ashamed? For the [l]end of those things is death.
22 But now being freed from sin, and made servants unto God, ye have your fruit in holiness, and the end, everlasting life.
23 [m]For the wages of sin is death: but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
12 ¶ And Jesus went into the Temple of God, and cast out all them (A)that sold and bought in the Temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,
13 And said to them, It is written, (B)My house shall be called the house of prayer: but (C)ye have made it a den of thieves.
14 Then the blind, and the halt came to him, in the Temple, and he healed them.
15 [a]But when the chief Priests and Scribes saw the marvels that he did, and the children crying in the Temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David, they disdained,
16 And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus said unto them, Yea: read ye never, (D)By the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast [b]made perfect the praise?
17 ¶ [c]So he left them, and went out of the city unto Bethany, and lodged there.
18 [d]And (E)in the morning, as he returned into the city, he was hungry.
19 And seeing a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said to it, Never fruit grow on thee henceforward. And anon the fig tree withered.
20 And when his disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered!
21 [e]And Jesus answered and said unto them, (F)Verily I say unto you, if ye have faith, and [f]doubt not, ye shall not only do that, which I have done to the fig tree, but also if ye say unto this mountain, Take thyself away, and cast thyself into the sea, it shall be done.
22 (G)And whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, if ye believe, ye shall receive it.
