Book of Common Prayer
The resurrection of the dead.
15 Brethren, as pertaining to the gospel that I preached to you, which you have also accepted, and in which you continue, 2 by which also you are saved, I call to your mind how I preached to you – if you keep it, unless you have believed in vain. 3 For first of all I delivered to you that which I received: how Christ died for our sins, agreeing to the scriptures; 4 and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day in accordance with the scriptures; 5 and that he was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. 6 After that he was seen by more than 500 brethren at once, of whom many remain to this day, and many have fallen asleep. 7 After that he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.
8 And last of all he was seen by me, as by one who was born out of due time. 9 For I am the least of all the apostles, and am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the congregation of God. 10 But by the grace of God, I am what I am. And his grace in me was not in vain, but I laboured more greatly than them all – yet not I, but the grace of God which is with me. 11 Whether then it was I or they, so we preach, and so you have believed.
Christ is risen up again. He appears to the apostles, to whom he commits the preaching of the gospel.
16 And when the Sabbath day was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary Jacobi, and Salome bought sweet spices so that they could come and anoint him. 2 And early in the morning of the day after the Sabbath day, they came to the sepulchre when the sun was risen. 3 And they said to one another, Who will roll the stone away from the opening of the sepulchre for us? 4 But when they looked, they saw that the stone had been rolled away; for it was a very great one.
5 And they went into the sepulchre, and saw a young man clothed in a long white garment sitting on the right side, and they were afraid. 6 But he said to them, Do not be afraid. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen; he is not here. Behold the place where they put him. 7 But go your way and tell his disciples, and especially Peter. He will go before you into Galilee; there you will see him, as he said to you.
8 And they went out quickly and fled from the sepulchre. For they trembled and were amazed. And they did not say anything to anyone, because they were afraid.
