Psalm 103

The Love of God[a]

103 Praise the Lord, my soul!
    All my being, praise his holy name!
Praise the Lord, my soul,
    and do not forget how kind he is.
He forgives all my sins
    and heals all my diseases.
He keeps me from the grave
    and blesses me with love and mercy.
He fills my life[b] with good things,
    so that I stay young and strong like an eagle.

The Lord judges in favor of the oppressed
    and gives them their rights.
He revealed his plans to Moses
    and let the people of Israel see his mighty deeds.
(A)The Lord is merciful and loving,
    slow to become angry and full of constant love.
He does not keep on rebuking;
    he is not angry forever.
10 He does not punish us as we deserve
    or repay us according to our sins and wrongs.
11 As high as the sky is above the earth,
    so great is his love for those who honor him.
12 As far as the east is from the west,
    so far does he remove our sins from us.
13 As a father is kind to his children,
    so the Lord is kind to those who honor him.
14 He knows what we are made of;
    he remembers that we are dust.

15 As for us, our life is like grass.
We grow and flourish like a wild flower;
16     then the wind blows on it, and it is gone—
    no one sees it again.
17 But for those who honor the Lord, his love lasts forever,
    and his goodness endures for all generations
18 of those who are true to his covenant
    and who faithfully obey his commands.

19 The Lord placed his throne in heaven;
    he is king over all.
20 Praise the Lord, you strong and mighty angels,
    who obey his commands,
    who listen to what he says.
21 Praise the Lord, all you heavenly powers,
    you servants of his, who do his will!
22 Praise the Lord, all his creatures
    in all the places he rules.
Praise the Lord, my soul!

Psalm 111

In Praise of the Lord

111 Praise the Lord!

With all my heart I will thank the Lord
    in the assembly of his people.
How wonderful are the things the Lord does!
    All who are delighted with them want to understand them.
All he does is full of honor and majesty;
    his righteousness is eternal.

The Lord does not let us forget his wonderful actions;
    he is kind and merciful.
He provides food for those who honor him;
    he never forgets his covenant.
He has shown his power to his people
    by giving them the lands of foreigners.

In all he does he is faithful and just;
    all his commands are dependable.
They last for all time;
    they were given in truth and righteousness.
He set his people free
    and made an eternal covenant with them.
    Holy and mighty is he!
10 (A)The way to become wise is to honor the Lord;[a]
    he gives sound judgment to all who obey his commands.
He is to be praised forever.

Psalm 114

A Passover Song

114 (A)When the people of Israel left Egypt,
    when Jacob's descendants left that foreign land,
Judah became the Lord's holy people,
    Israel became his own possession.

(B)The Red Sea looked and ran away;
    the Jordan River stopped flowing.
The mountains skipped like goats;
    the hills jumped around like lambs.

What happened, Sea, to make you run away?
    And you, O Jordan, why did you stop flowing?
You mountains, why did you skip like goats?
    You hills, why did you jump around like lambs?

Tremble, earth, at the Lord's coming,
    at the presence of the God of Jacob,
(C)who changes rocks into pools of water
    and solid cliffs into flowing springs.

Exodus 12:28-39

28 Then they went and did what the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron.

The Death of the First-Born

29 (A)At midnight the Lord killed all the first-born sons in Egypt, from the king's son, who was heir to the throne, to the son of the prisoner in the dungeon; all the first-born of the animals were also killed. 30 That night, the king, his officials, and all the other Egyptians were awakened. There was loud crying throughout Egypt, because there was not one home in which there was not a dead son. 31 That same night the king sent for Moses and Aaron and said, “Get out, you and your Israelites! Leave my country; go and worship the Lord, as you asked. 32 Take your sheep, goats, and cattle, and leave. Also pray for a blessing on me.”

33 The Egyptians urged the people to hurry and leave the country; they said, “We will all be dead if you don't leave.” 34 So the people filled their baking pans with unleavened dough, wrapped them in clothing, and carried them on their shoulders. 35 (B)The Israelites had done as Moses had said, and had asked the Egyptians for gold and silver jewelry and for clothes. 36 The Lord made the Egyptians respect the people and give them what they asked for. In this way the Israelites carried away the wealth of the Egyptians.

The Israelites Leave Egypt

37 The Israelites set out on foot from Rameses for Sukkoth. There were about 600,000 men, not counting women and children. 38 A large number of other people and many sheep, goats, and cattle also went with them. 39 They baked unleavened bread from the dough that they had brought out of Egypt, for they had been driven out of Egypt so suddenly that they did not have time to get their food ready or to prepare leavened dough.

1 Corinthians 15:12-28

Our Resurrection

12 Now, since our message is that Christ has been raised from death, how can some of you say that the dead will not be raised to life? 13 If that is true, it means that Christ was not raised; 14 and if Christ has not been raised from death, then we have nothing to preach and you have nothing to believe. 15 More than that, we are shown to be lying about God, because we said that he raised Christ from death—but if it is true that the dead are not raised to life, then he did not raise Christ. 16 For if the dead are not raised, neither has Christ been raised. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is a delusion and you are still lost in your sins. 18 It would also mean that the believers in Christ who have died are lost. 19 If our hope in Christ is good for this life only and no more,[a] then we deserve more pity than anyone else in all the world.

20 But the truth is that Christ has been raised from death, as the guarantee that those who sleep in death will also be raised. 21 For just as death came by means of a man, in the same way the rising from death comes by means of a man. 22 For just as all people die because of their union with Adam, in the same way all will be raised to life because of their union with Christ. 23 But each one will be raised in proper order: Christ, first of all; then, at the time of his coming, those who belong to him. 24 Then the end will come; Christ will overcome all spiritual rulers, authorities, and powers, and will hand over the Kingdom to God the Father. 25 (A)For Christ must rule until God defeats all enemies and puts them under his feet. 26 The last enemy to be defeated will be death. 27 (B)For the scripture says, “God put all things under his feet.” It is clear, of course, that the words “all things” do not include God himself, who puts all things under Christ. 28 But when all things have been placed under Christ's rule, then he himself, the Son, will place himself under God, who placed all things under him; and God will rule completely over all.

Mark 16:9-10

AN OLD ENDING TO THE GOSPEL[a]

Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene

After Jesus rose from death early on Sunday, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had driven out seven demons. 10 She went and told his companions. They were mourning and crying; 11 and when they heard her say that Jesus was alive and that she had seen him, they did not believe her.

Jesus Appears to Two Followers(A)

12 After this, Jesus appeared in a different manner to two of them while they were on their way to the country. 13 They returned and told the others, but these would not believe it.

Jesus Appears to the Eleven(B)

14 Last of all, Jesus appeared to the eleven disciples as they were eating. He scolded them, because they did not have faith and because they were too stubborn to believe those who had seen him alive. 15 (C)He said to them, “Go throughout the whole world and preach the gospel to all people. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 Believers will be given the power to perform miracles: they will drive out demons in my name; they will speak in strange tongues; 18 if they pick up snakes or drink any poison, they will not be harmed; they will place their hands on sick people, and these will get well.”

Jesus Is Taken Up to Heaven(D)

19 (E)After the Lord Jesus had talked with them, he was taken up to heaven and sat at the right side of God. 20 The disciples went and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and proved that their preaching was true by the miracles that were performed.]

ANOTHER OLD ENDING[b]

9-10 [The women went to Peter and his friends and gave them a brief account of all they had been told. After this, Jesus himself sent out through his disciples from the east to the west the sacred and everliving message of eternal salvation.]
