Give the King Your Judgments
Of Solomon.
72 O God, give the king (A)Your judgments,
And (B)Your righteousness to the king’s son.
2 [a]May [b]he (C)render judgment to Your people with righteousness
And (D)Your [c]afflicted with justice.
3 Let the mountains lift up [d](E)peace to the people,
And the hills, in righteousness.
4 [e]May he (F)give justice to the [f]afflicted of the people,
Save the children of the needy,
And crush the oppressor.
5 [g]Let them fear You (G)while the sun endures,
And [h]as long as the moon, from generation to all generations.
6 [i]May he come down (H)like rain upon the mown grass,
Like (I)showers that water the earth.
7 [j]May the (J)righteous flourish in his days,
And (K)abundance of peace until the moon is no more.
8 May he also have dominion (L)from sea to sea
And from the River to the ends of the earth.
9 [k]Let (M)the desert creatures (N)kneel before him,
And his enemies (O)lick the dust.
10 [l]Let the kings of (P)Tarshish and of the (Q)coastlands bring a present;
The kings of (R)Sheba and (S)Seba (T)offer tribute.
11 [m]And let all (U)kings bow down to him,
All (V)nations serve him.
12 For he will (W)deliver the needy when he cries for help,
The [n]afflicted also, and him who has no helper.
13 He will have (X)compassion on the poor and needy,
And the [o]lives of the needy he will save.
14 He will (Y)redeem their [p]life from oppression and violence,
And their blood will be (Z)precious in his sight;
15 So may he live! And may they give to him the (AA)gold of Sheba;
And let each pray for him continually;
Let each bless him all day long.
16 May there be abundance of grain in the earth on top of the mountains;
May its fruit wave like the cedars of (AB)Lebanon;
And may those from the city blossom like (AC)vegetation of the earth.
17 May his (AD)name endure forever;
May his name [q]increase [r](AE)as long as the sun shines;
Let all nations [s](AF)be blessed in him;
(AG)Let all nations call him blessed.
18 (AH)Blessed be Yahweh God, the God of Israel,
Who alone (AI)works wondrous deeds.
19 And blessed be His (AJ)glorious name forever;
And may the whole (AK)earth be filled with His glory.
(AL)Amen, and Amen.
20 [t]The prayers of David, the son of Jesse, are completed.

(B)Give me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments.
74 May those who [a]fear You (C)see me and be glad,
Because I [b](D)wait for Your word.
75 I know, O Yahweh, that Your judgments are (E)righteous,
And that (F)in faithfulness You have afflicted me.
76 Oh may Your lovingkindness [c]comfort me,
According to Your [d]word to Your slave.
77 May (G)Your compassion come to me that I may live,
For Your law is my (H)delight.
78 May (I)the arrogant be ashamed, for they wrong me (J)with lying;
But I shall (K)muse on Your precepts.
79 May those who [e]fear You turn to me,
And those who know Your testimonies.
80 May my heart be [f](L)blameless in Your statutes,
So that I will not (M)be ashamed.

81 My (N)soul fails with longing for Your salvation;
I [g](O)wait for Your word.
82 My (P)eyes fail with longing for Your [h]word,
Saying, “When will You comfort me?”
83 For I (Q)am like a wineskin in the smoke,
But I do (R)not forget Your statutes.
84 How many are the (S)days of Your slave?
When will You (T)execute judgment on those who persecute me?
85 The arrogant have (U)dug pits for me,
Men who are not [i]in accord with Your law.
86 All Your commandments are (V)faithful;
They have (W)persecuted me with lying; (X)help me!
87 They almost made an end of me on the earth,
But as for me, I (Y)did not forsake Your precepts.
88 Revive me according to Your lovingkindness,
So that I may keep the testimony of Your mouth.

89 (Z)Forever, O Yahweh,
Your word stands firm in heaven.
90 Your (AA)faithfulness endures [j]from generation to generation;
You (AB)established the earth, and it (AC)stands.
91 They stand this day according to Your (AD)judgments,
For (AE)all things are Your slaves.
92 If Your law had not been my (AF)delight,
Then I would have perished (AG)in my affliction.
93 I will (AH)never forget Your precepts,
For by them You have [k](AI)revived me.
94 I am Yours, (AJ)save me;
For I have (AK)sought Your precepts.
95 The wicked (AL)hope for me—to destroy me;
I shall perceive Your testimonies.
96 I have seen [l]a limit to all perfection;
Your commandment is exceedingly broad.
Faithless Israel Called to Repentance
6 Then Yahweh said to me in the days of Josiah the king, “Have you seen what faithless Israel did? She (A)went up on every high hill and under every green tree, and she was a harlot there. 7 (B)I said, ‘After she has done all these things, she will return to Me’; but she did not return, and her (C)treacherous sister Judah saw it. 8 And I saw that for all the adulteries of faithless Israel, I had sent her away and (D)given her a certificate of divorce, yet her (E)treacherous sister Judah did not fear; but she went and was a harlot also. 9 So it was, because of the lightness of her harlotry, that she (F)polluted the land and committed adultery with (G)stones and trees. 10 Yet in spite of all this, her treacherous sister Judah did not return to Me with all her heart, but rather in (H)lying,” declares Yahweh.
11 And Yahweh said to me, “(I)Faithless Israel has proved herself more righteous than treacherous Judah. 12 Go and call out these words toward the north and say,
‘[a](J)Return, faithless Israel,’ declares Yahweh;
‘(K)I will not [b]look upon you in anger.
For I am (L)One of lovingkindness,’ declares Yahweh;
‘I will not be angry forever.
13 Only [c](M)acknowledge your iniquity,
That you have transgressed against Yahweh your God
And have (N)scattered your ways of harlotry to the strangers (O)under every green tree,
And you have not listened to My voice,’ declares Yahweh.
14 ‘[d]Return, O faithless sons,’ declares Yahweh;
‘For I am a (P)master to you,
And I will take you one from a city and two from a family,
And (Q)I will bring you to Zion.’
15 “Then I will give you (R)shepherds after My own heart, who will [e](S)shepherd you on knowledge and understanding. 16 It shall be in those days when you are multiplied and fruitful in the land,” declares Yahweh, “they will (T)no longer say, ‘The ark of the covenant of Yahweh.’ And it will not come upon the heart, nor will they remember it, nor will they miss it, nor will it be made again. 17 At that time they will call Jerusalem ‘The (U)Throne of Yahweh,’ and (V)all the nations will be gathered to it, to Jerusalem, for the (W)name of Yahweh; nor will they (X)walk anymore after the stubbornness of their evil heart. 18 (Y)In those days the house of Judah will walk with the house of Israel, and they will come together (Z)from the land of the north to the (AA)land that I gave your fathers as an inheritance.
28 And just as they did not see fit [a]to acknowledge God, (A)God gave them over to an unfit mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29 having been filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are (B)gossips, 30 slanderers, [b](C)haters of God, violent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, (D)disobedient to parents, 31 without understanding, untrustworthy, (E)unloving, unmerciful; 32 and although they know the righteous requirement of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of (F)death, they not only do the same, but also (G)give hearty approval to those who practice them.
God’s Righteous Judgment
2 Therefore you are (H)without excuse, (I)O man, everyone who passes judgment, for in that which (J)you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things. 2 And we know that the judgment of God [c]rightly falls upon those who practice such things. 3 But do you presume this, (K)O man—who passes judgment on those who practice such things and does the same—that you will escape the judgment of God? 4 Or do you think lightly of (L)the riches of His (M)kindness and (N)forbearance and (O)patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? 5 But [d]because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart (P)you are storing up wrath for yourself (Q)in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6 (R)who will repay to each according to his works: 7 to those who by (S)perseverance in doing good seek for (T)glory and honor and (U)immortality, (V)eternal life; 8 but to those who are (W)selfishly ambitious and (X)do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and anger. 9 There will be (Y)affliction and turmoil [e]for every soul of man who works out evil, of the Jew (Z)first and also of the Greek, 10 but (AA)glory and honor and peace to everyone who works good, to the Jew (AB)first and also to the Greek. 11 For (AC)there is no partiality with God.
The Healing at Bethesda
5 After these things there was (A)a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
2 Now there is in Jerusalem by (B)the sheep gate a pool, which is called (C)in [a]Hebrew [b]Bethesda, having five porticoes. 3 In these lay a multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, and withered, [c][waiting for the moving of the waters; 4 for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool and stirred up the water; whoever then first, after the stirring up of the water, stepped in was made well from whatever sickness with which he was afflicted.] 5 And a man was there who had been sick for thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been sick a long time, He *said to him, “Do you wish to get well?” 7 The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when (D)the water is stirred up, but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” 8 Jesus *said to him, “(E)Get up, pick up your mat and walk.” 9 And immediately the man became well, and picked up his mat and began to walk.
(F)Now it was the Sabbath on that day. 10 So (G)the Jews were saying to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath, and (H)it is not lawful for you to carry your mat.” 11 But he answered them, “He who made me well was the one who said to me, ‘Pick up your mat and walk.’” 12 They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Pick up your mat and walk’?” 13 But the man who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had slipped away while there was a crowd in that place. 14 Afterward Jesus *found him in the temple and said to him, “Behold, you have become well; do not (I)sin anymore, (J)so that nothing worse happens to you.” 15 The man went away, and disclosed to (K)the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well. 16 And for this reason (L)the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because He was doing these things on the Sabbath. 17 But He answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working.”
Jesus’ Equality with the Father
18 For this reason therefore (M)the Jews (N)were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, (O)making Himself equal with God.
