Book of Common Prayer
We Will Boast in the Name of Yahweh
For the choir director. A Psalm of David.
20 May Yahweh answer you (A)in the day of distress!
May the (B)name of the (C)God of Jacob set you securely on high!
2 May He send you help (D)from the sanctuary
And (E)uphold you from Zion!
3 May He (F)remember all your meal offerings
And (G)find your burnt offering [a]acceptable! [b]Selah.
4 May He grant you your (H)heart’s desire
And (I)fulfill all your [c]counsel!
5 [d]We will (J)sing for joy over your salvation,
And in the name of our God we will (K)set up our banners.
May Yahweh (L)fulfill all your petitions.
6 Now (M)I know that Yahweh saves His anointed;
He will (N)answer him from His holy heaven
With the [e](O)saving might of His right hand.
7 Some boast in chariots and some in (P)horses,
But (Q)we will [f]boast in the name of Yahweh, our God.
8 They have (R)bowed down and fallen,
But we have (S)risen and stood upright.
9 [g](T)Save, O Yahweh;
May the (U)King answer us in the day we call.
The King Trusts in Yahweh
For the choir director. A Psalm of David.
21 O Yahweh, in Your strength the king will (V)be glad,
And in Your [h]salvation how greatly he will rejoice!
2 You have (W)given him his heart’s desire,
And You have not withheld the request of his lips. [i]Selah.
3 For You (X)meet him with the blessings of good things;
You set a (Y)crown of fine gold on his head.
4 He asked life of You,
You (Z)gave it to him,
(AA)Length of days forever and ever.
5 His (AB)glory is great through Your [j]salvation,
(AC)Splendor and majesty You bestow upon him.
6 For You make him [k]most (AD)blessed forever;
You make him joyful (AE)with gladness in Your presence.
7 For the king (AF)trusts in Yahweh,
And through the lovingkindness of the Most High (AG)he will not be shaken.
8 Your hand will (AH)find out all your enemies;
Your right hand will find out those who hate you.
9 You will make them (AI)as a fiery oven in the time of your [l]anger;
Yahweh will (AJ)swallow them up in His wrath,
And (AK)fire will devour them.
10 Their [m]offspring You will destroy from the earth,
And their (AL)seed from among the sons of men.
11 Though they [n](AM)intended evil against You
And (AN)devised a scheme,
They will not succeed.
12 For You will (AO)make them turn their back;
You will [o]aim (AP)with Your bowstrings at their faces.
13 Be exalted, O Yahweh, in Your strength;
We will (AQ)sing and praise Your might.
You Are a Priest Forever
Of David. A Psalm.
110 (A)Yahweh says to my Lord:
“(B)Sit at My right hand
Until I put (C)Your enemies as a footstool for Your feet.”
2 Yahweh will stretch forth Your strong (D)scepter from Zion, saying,
“(E)Have dominion in the midst of Your enemies.”
3 Your (F)people [a]will offer themselves freely in the day of Your [b]power;
(G)In the splendor of holiness, from the womb of the dawn,
The (H)dew of Your youthfulness will be Yours.
4 (I)Yahweh has sworn and will (J)not [c]change His mind,
“You are a (K)priest forever
According to the order of Melchizedek.”
5 The Lord is (L)at Your right hand;
He [d]will (M)crush kings in the (N)day of His anger.
6 He will (O)render justice among the nations,
He [e]will fill them with (P)corpses,
He [f]will (Q)crush the [g]head that is over the wide earth.
7 He will (R)drink from the brook by the wayside;
Therefore He will (S)lift up His head.
I Love Yahweh
116 (A)I love Yahweh, because He (B)hears
My voice and my supplications.
2 Because He has (C)inclined His ear to me,
So I shall call upon Him in all my days.
3 The (D)cords of death encompassed me
And the [a]distresses of Sheol found me;
I found distress and sorrow.
4 Then (E)I called upon the name of Yahweh:
“O Yahweh, I beseech You, [b](F)provide my soul escape!”
5 (G)Gracious is Yahweh, and (H)righteous;
And our God is (I)compassionate.
6 Yahweh keeps (J)the simple;
I was (K)brought low, and He saved me.
7 Return to your (L)rest, O my soul,
For Yahweh has (M)dealt bountifully with you.
8 For You have (N)rescued my soul from death,
My eyes from tears,
My feet from stumbling.
9 I shall walk before Yahweh
In the [c](O)land of the living.
10 I (P)believed when I said,
“I am (Q)greatly afflicted.”
11 I (R)said in my alarm,
“(S)All men are liars.”
12 What shall I (T)give to Yahweh in return
For all His (U)bountiful dealings [d]with me?
13 I shall lift up the (V)cup of [e]salvation
And (W)call upon the name of Yahweh.
14 I shall (X)pay my vows to Yahweh,
Oh may it be (Y)in the presence of all His people.
15 (Z)Precious in the sight of Yahweh
Is the death of His holy ones.
16 O Yahweh, [f]surely I am (AA)Your slave,
I am Your slave, the (AB)son of Your maidservant,
You have (AC)loosed my bonds.
17 To You I shall offer (AD)a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
And (AE)call upon the name of Yahweh.
18 I shall (AF)pay my vows to Yahweh,
Oh may it be in the presence of all His people,
19 In the (AG)courts of the house of Yahweh,
In the midst of you, O (AH)Jerusalem.
[g]Praise Yah!
Yahweh’s Lovingkindness Prevails
The Death of Moses
34 (A)Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho. And Yahweh (B)showed him all the land, Gilead as far as Dan, 2 and all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah as far as the [a](C)western sea, 3 and the [b]Negev and the plain in the valley of Jericho, (D)the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar. 4 Then Yahweh said to him, “This is the land which (E)I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your seed’; I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there.” 5 So Moses (F)the servant of Yahweh (G)died there in the land of Moab, according to the [c]command of Yahweh. 6 And He buried him in the valley in the land of Moab, (H)opposite Beth-peor; but (I)no man knows his burial place to this day. 7 Now Moses was (J)120 years old when he died; (K)his eye was not dim, nor his vigor abated. 8 So the sons of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days. Then the days of weeping and mourning for Moses came to an end.
9 Now Joshua the son of Nun was (L)filled with the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him; and the sons of Israel listened to him and did as Yahweh had commanded Moses. 10 (M)And there has not yet arisen a prophet in Israel like Moses, whom (N)Yahweh knew face to face, 11 [d]in regard to all the signs and wonders which Yahweh sent him to do in the land of Egypt against Pharaoh, all his servants, and all his land, 12 and [e]in regard to all the mighty [f]power and [g]in regard to all the great terror which Moses did in the sight of all Israel.
14 How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him (A)whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without (B)a preacher? 15 And how will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “(C)How beautiful are the feet of those who (D)proclaim good news of good things!”
16 However, they (E)did not all heed the [a]good news, for Isaiah says, “(F)Lord, who has believed our report?” 17 So faith comes from (G)hearing, and hearing by (H)the word [b]of Christ.
18 But I say, have they never heard? On the contrary, they have;
19 But I say, did Israel not know? First Moses says,
“(J)I will (K)make you jealous by that which is not a nation,
By a nation without understanding will I anger you.”
20 And Isaiah is very bold and says,
“(L)I was found by those who did not seek Me,
I became manifest to those who did not ask for Me.”
21 But as for Israel He says, “(M)All day long I have stretched out My hands to a disobedient and obstinate people.”
The Parable of the Fig Tree
32 “Now learn the parable from the fig tree: when its branch has already become tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near; 33 so, you too, when you see all these things, [a]recognize that [b]He is near, right (A)at the [c]door. 34 Truly I say to you, (B)this [d]generation will not pass away until all these things take place. 35 (C)Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.
36 “But (D)of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. 37 For (E)just as the days of Noah were, so the (F)coming of the Son of Man will be. 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, (G)marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that (H)Noah entered the ark, 39 and they did not [e]understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the (I)coming of the Son of Man be. 40 Then there will be two in the field; one [f]will be taken, and one [g]will be left. 41 (J)Two women will be grinding grain at the [h](K)mill; one [i]will be taken and one [j]will be left.
Be Ready for His Coming
42 “Therefore (L)stay awake, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming. 43 But [k]be sure of this, that (M)if the head of the house had known (N)at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have allowed his house to be [l]broken into. 44 For this reason (O)you also must be ready; for (P)the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will.
45 “(Q)Who then is the (R)faithful and (S)prudent slave whom his [m]master (T)put in charge of his household to give them their food at the proper time? 46 Blessed is that slave whom his [n]master finds so doing when he comes. 47 Truly I say to you that (U)he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 48 But if that evil slave says in his heart, ‘My [o]master [p]is not coming for a long time,’ 49 and begins to beat his fellow slaves and eat and drink with drunkards; 50 the [q]master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour which he does not know, 51 and will [r]cut him in pieces and [s]assign him a place with the hypocrites; in that place there will be (V)weeping and gnashing of teeth.
