Psalm 16-17

You Will Not Abandon My Soul

A (A)Miktam[a] of David.

16 Preserve me, O God, for in you I (B)take refuge.
I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
    (C)I have no good apart from you.”

As for (D)the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones,
    in whom is all my delight.[b]

The sorrows of those who run after[c] another god shall multiply;
    their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out
    or (E)take their names on my lips.

The Lord is (F)my chosen portion and my (G)cup;
    you hold my (H)lot.
(I)The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
    indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.

I bless the Lord who (J)gives me counsel;
    in (K)the night also my (L)heart instructs me.[d]
(M)I have (N)set the Lord always before me;
    because he is at my (O)right hand, I shall not be (P)shaken.

Therefore my heart is glad, and my (Q)whole being[e] rejoices;
    my flesh also dwells secure.
10 For you will not abandon my soul to (R)Sheol,
    (S)or let your (T)holy one see (U)corruption.[f]

11 You make known to me (V)the path of life;
    in your presence there is (W)fullness of joy;
    at your right hand are (X)pleasures forevermore.

In the Shadow of Your Wings

A (Y)Prayer of David.

17 Hear a just cause, O Lord; (Z)attend to my cry!
    Give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit!
From your presence (AA)let my vindication come!
    Let your eyes behold the right!

You have (AB)tried my heart, you have (AC)visited me by (AD)night,
    you have (AE)tested me, and you will find nothing;
    I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress.
With regard to the works of man, by the word of your lips
    I have avoided the ways of the violent.
My steps have (AF)held fast to your paths;
    my feet have not slipped.

I (AG)call upon you, for you will answer me, O God;
    (AH)incline your ear to me; hear my words.
(AI)Wondrously show[g] your steadfast love,
    O Savior of those who seek refuge
    from (AJ)their adversaries at your right hand.

Keep me as (AK)the apple of your eye;
    hide me in (AL)the shadow of your wings,
from the wicked who do me violence,
    my deadly enemies who (AM)surround me.

10 (AN)They close their hearts to pity;
    with their mouths they (AO)speak arrogantly.
11 They have now surrounded our (AP)steps;
    they set their eyes to (AQ)cast us to the ground.
12 He is like a lion eager to tear,
    as a young lion (AR)lurking in ambush.

13 Arise, O Lord! Confront him, subdue him!
    Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword,
14 from men by your hand, O Lord,
    from (AS)men of the world whose (AT)portion is in this life.[h]
You fill their womb with treasure;[i]
    they are satisfied with (AU)children,
    and they leave their abundance to their infants.

15 As for me, I shall (AV)behold your face in righteousness;
    when I (AW)awake, I shall be (AX)satisfied with your likeness.

Psalm 134-135

Come, Bless the Lord

A Song of (A)Ascents.

134 Come, bless the Lord, all you (B)servants of the Lord,
    who (C)stand (D)by night in the house of the Lord!
(E)Lift up your hands to (F)the holy place
    and bless the Lord!

May the Lord (G)bless you (H)from Zion,
    he who (I)made heaven and earth!

Your Name, O Lord, Endures Forever

135 (J)Praise the Lord!
Praise the name of the Lord,
    give praise, O (K)servants of the Lord,
who (L)stand in the house of the Lord,
    in (M)the courts of the house of our God!
Praise the Lord, for (N)the Lord is good;
    sing to his name, (O)for it is pleasant![a]
For the Lord has (P)chosen Jacob for himself,
    Israel as his (Q)own possession.

For I know that (R)the Lord is great,
    and that our Lord is above all gods.
(S)Whatever the Lord pleases, he does,
    in heaven and on earth,
    in the seas and all deeps.
(T)He it is who makes the clouds rise at the end of the earth,
    who (U)makes lightnings for the rain
    and brings forth the wind from his (V)storehouses.

He it was who (W)struck down the firstborn of Egypt,
    both of man and of beast;
who in your midst, O Egypt,
    sent (X)signs and wonders
    against Pharaoh and all his servants;
10 (Y)who struck down many nations
    and killed mighty kings,
11 (Z)Sihon, king of the Amorites,
    and (AA)Og, king of Bashan,
    and (AB)all the kingdoms of Canaan,
12 and (AC)gave their land as a heritage,
    a heritage to his people Israel.

13 (AD)Your name, O Lord, endures forever,
    (AE)your renown,[b] O Lord, throughout all ages.
14 (AF)For the Lord will vindicate his people
    and (AG)have compassion on his servants.

15 (AH)The idols of the nations are silver and gold,
    the work of human hands.
16 They have mouths, but do not speak;
    they have eyes, but do not see;
17 they have ears, but do not hear,
    nor is there any breath in their mouths.
18 Those who make them become like them,
    so do all who trust in them.

19 (AI)O house of Israel, bless the Lord!
    O house of Aaron, bless the Lord!
20 O house of Levi, bless the Lord!
    You who fear the Lord, bless the Lord!
21 Blessed be the Lord (AJ)from Zion,
    he who (AK)dwells in Jerusalem!
(AL)Praise the Lord!

Exodus 16:23-36

23 he said to them, “This is what the Lord has commanded: ‘Tomorrow is a day of (A)solemn rest, a holy Sabbath to the Lord; bake what you will bake and boil what you will boil, and all that is left over lay aside to be kept till the morning.’” 24 So they laid it aside till the morning, as Moses commanded them, and (B)it did not stink, and there were no worms in it. 25 Moses said, “Eat it today, for (C)today is a Sabbath to the Lord; today you will not find it in the field. 26 Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, which is a Sabbath, there will be none.”

27 On the seventh day some of the people went out to gather, but they found none. 28 And the Lord said to Moses, (D)“How long will you refuse to keep my commandments and my laws? 29 See! The Lord has given you the Sabbath; therefore on the sixth day he gives you bread for two days. Remain each of you in his place; let no one go out of his place on the seventh day.” 30 So the people (E)rested on the seventh day.

31 Now the house of Israel called its name (F)manna. It was (G)like coriander seed, white, and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey. 32 Moses said, “This is what the Lord has commanded: ‘Let an omer of it be kept throughout your generations, so that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.’” 33 And Moses said to Aaron, “Take a (H)jar, and put an omer of manna in it, and place it before the Lord to be kept throughout your generations.” 34 As the Lord commanded Moses, so Aaron placed it before (I)the testimony to be kept. 35 The people of Israel (J)ate the manna forty years, till they came to a habitable land. They ate the manna till (K)they came to the border of the land of Canaan. 36 (An omer is (L)the tenth part of an ephah.)[a]

1 Peter 3:13-4:6

13 Now (A)who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? 14 (B)But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you will be blessed. (C)Have no fear of them, (D)nor be troubled, 15 but (E)in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, (F)always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and (G)respect, 16 (H)having a good conscience, so that, (I)when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. 17 For (J)it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God's will, than for doing evil.

18 For Christ also (K)suffered[a] (L)once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, (M)that he might bring us to God, being put to death (N)in the flesh but made alive (O)in the spirit, 19 in which[b] he went and (P)proclaimed[c] to the spirits in prison, 20 because[d] they formerly did not obey, (Q)when God's patience waited in the days of Noah, (R)while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, (S)eight persons, were brought safely through water. 21 Baptism, which corresponds to this, (T)now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but (U)as an appeal to God for a good conscience, (V)through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has gone into heaven and (W)is at the right hand of God, (X)with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him.

Stewards of God's Grace

Since therefore (Y)Christ suffered in the flesh,[e] (Z)arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for (AA)whoever has suffered in the flesh (AB)has ceased from sin, (AC)so as to live for (AD)the rest of the time in the flesh (AE)no longer for human passions but (AF)for the will of God. For the time that is past (AG)suffices (AH)for doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and lawless idolatry. With respect to this they are surprised when you do not join them in the same flood of (AI)debauchery, and (AJ)they malign you; but they will give account to him who is ready (AK)to judge the living and the dead. For this is why (AL)the gospel was preached even to those who are dead, that though judged in the flesh the way people are, they might live in the spirit the way God does.

John 16:1-15

16 “I have said all these things to you to keep you from falling away. (A)They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, (B)the hour is coming when (C)whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God. And they will do these things (D)because they have not known the Father, nor me. But (E)I have said these things to you, that when (F)their hour comes you may remember that I told them to you.

The Work of the Holy Spirit

“I did not say these things to you from the beginning, (G)because I was with you. But now (H)I am going to him who sent me, and (I)none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ But because I have said these things to you, (J)sorrow has filled your heart. Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for (K)if I do not go away, (L)the Helper will not come to you. But (M)if (N)I go, (O)I will send him to you. (P)And when he comes, he will (Q)convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, (R)because they do not believe in me; 10 (S)concerning righteousness, (T)because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; 11 (U)concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world (V)is judged.

12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 When (W)the Spirit of truth comes, (X)he will (Y)guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but (Z)whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will (AA)glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15 (AB)All that the Father has is mine; (AC)therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
