Psalm 29

(A psalm by David.)

The Voice of the Lord in a Storm

(A) All you angels[a] in heaven,
honor the glory and power
    of the Lord!
Honor the wonderful name
    of the Lord,
and worship the Lord
    most holy and glorious.[b]

The voice of the Lord
    echoes over the oceans.
The glorious Lord God
thunders above the roar
    of the raging sea,
and his voice is mighty
    and marvelous.
The voice of the Lord
    destroys the cedar trees;
the Lord shatters cedars
    on Mount Lebanon.
God makes Mount Lebanon
    skip like a calf
and Mount Hermon
    jump like a wild ox.

The voice of the Lord
makes lightning flash
    and the desert tremble.
And because of the Lord,
the desert near Kadesh
    shivers and shakes.

The voice of the Lord
makes deer give birth
    before their time.[c]
Forests are stripped of leaves,
and the temple is filled
    with shouts of praise.

10 The Lord rules on his throne,
    king of the flood[d] forever.
11 Pray that our Lord
will make us strong
    and give us peace.

Psalm 98

The Lord Works Miracles

Sing a new song to the Lord!
    He has worked miracles,
and with his own powerful arm,
    he has won the victory.
The Lord has shown the nations
that he has the power to save
    and to bring justice.
God has been faithful
    in his love for Israel,
and his saving power is seen
    everywhere on earth.

Tell everyone on this earth
to sing happy songs
    in praise of the Lord.
Make music for him on harps.
    Play beautiful melodies!
Sound the trumpets and horns
and celebrate with joyful songs
    for our Lord and King!

Command the ocean to roar
    with all its creatures,
and the earth to shout
    with all its people.
Order the rivers
    to clap their hands,
and all the hills
    to sing together.
Let them worship the Lord!
He is coming to judge
    everyone on the earth,
and he will be honest
    and fair.

Isaiah 66:18-23

18 I know everything you do and think! The time has now come[a] to bring together the people of every language and nation and to show them my glory 19 by proving what I can do.[b] I will send the survivors to Tarshish, Pul,[c] Lud, Meshech,[d] Tubal, Javan,[e] and to the distant islands. I will send them to announce my wonderful glory to nations that have never heard about me.

20 They will bring your relatives from the nations as an offering to me, the Lord. They will come to Jerusalem, my holy mountain, on horses, chariots, wagons, mules, and camels.[f] It will be like the people of Israel bringing the right offering to my temple. 21 I promise that some of them will be priests and others will be helpers in my temple. I, the Lord, have spoken.

22 (A) I also promise that you will always have descendants and will never be forgotten, just as the new heavens and the new earth that I create will last forever. 23 On the first day of each month and on each Sabbath, everyone will worship me. I, the Lord, have spoken.

Romans 15:7-13

The Good News Is for Jews and Gentiles

Honor God by accepting each other, as Christ has accepted you. I tell you that Christ came as a servant of the Jews to show that God has kept the promises he made to their famous ancestors. Christ also came, (A) so that the Gentiles would praise God for being kind to them. It is just as the Scriptures say,

“I will tell the nations
    about you,
and I will sing praises
    to your name.”

10 (B) The Scriptures also say to the Gentiles, “Come and celebrate with God's people.”

11 (C) Again the Scriptures say,

“Praise the Lord,
    all you Gentiles.
All you nations, come
    and worship him.”

12 (D) Isaiah says,

“Someone from David's family
    will come to power.
He will rule the nations,
and they will put their hope
    in him.”

13 I pray that God, who gives hope, will bless you with complete happiness and peace because of your faith. And may the power of the Holy Spirit fill you with hope.
