Book of Common Prayer
The Reign of the Lord’s Anointed.
2 Why are (A)the [a]nations restless
And the peoples (B)plotting in vain?
2 The (C)kings of the earth take their stand
And the rulers conspire together
(D)Against the Lord and against His [b](E)Anointed, saying,
3 “Let’s (F)tear their shackles apart
And throw their ropes away from us!”
4 He who [c]sits in the heavens (G)laughs,
The Lord (H)scoffs at them.
5 Then He will speak to them in His (I)anger
And (J)terrify them in His fury, saying,
6 “But as for Me, I have installed (K)My King
Upon Zion, (L)My holy mountain.”
7 “I will announce the [d]decree of the Lord:
He said to Me, ‘You are (M)My Son,
Today I have fathered You.
8 Ask it of Me, and (N)I will certainly give (O)the [e]nations as Your inheritance,
And the (P)ends of the earth as Your possession.
9 You shall [f](Q)break them with a [g]rod of iron,
You shall (R)shatter them like [h]earthenware.’”
10 Now then, you kings, (S)use insight;
Let yourselves be instructed, you [i]judges of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with [j](T)reverence
And rejoice with (U)trembling.
12 [k]Kiss (V)the Son, that He not be angry and you perish on the way,
For (W)His wrath may be kindled quickly.
How blessed are all who (X)take refuge in Him!
Prayer for God’s Mercy upon the Nation.
For the music director. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.
85 Lord, You showed (A)favor to Your land;
You (B)restored the fortunes of Jacob.
2 You (C)forgave the guilt of Your people;
You (D)covered all their sin. Selah
3 You (E)withdrew all Your fury;
You (F)turned away from Your burning anger.
4 (G)Restore us, God of our salvation,
And (H)cause Your indignation toward us to cease.
5 Will (I)You be angry with us forever?
Will You prolong Your anger to [a]all generations?
6 Will You not [b](J)revive us again,
So that Your people may (K)rejoice in You?
7 Show us Your mercy, Lord,
And (L)grant us Your salvation.
8 [c]I will hear what God the Lord will say;
For He will (M)speak peace to His people, to His godly ones;
And may they not (N)turn back to [d]foolishness.
9 Certainly (O)His salvation is near to those who [e]fear Him,
That (P)glory may dwell in our land.
10 (Q)Graciousness and [f]truth have met together;
(R)Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
11 [g]Truth (S)sprouts from the earth,
And righteousness looks down from heaven.
12 Indeed, (T)the Lord will give what is good,
And our (U)land will yield its produce.
13 (V)Righteousness will go before Him
And will make His footsteps into a way.
The Lord Gives Dominion to the King.
A Psalm of David.
110 (A)The Lord says to my Lord:
“(B)Sit at My right hand
Until I make (C)Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”
2 The Lord will stretch out Your strong (D)scepter from Zion, saying,
“(E)Rule in the midst of Your enemies.”
3 Your (F)people [a]will volunteer freely on the day of Your [b]power;
(G)In [c]holy splendor, from the womb of the dawn,
[d]Your youth are to You as the (H)dew.
4 (I)The Lord has sworn and will (J)not [e]change His mind,
“You are a (K)priest forever
According to the order of Melchizedek.”
5 The Lord is (L)at Your right hand;
He [f]will (M)shatter kings in the (N)day of His wrath.
6 He will (O)judge among the nations,
He [g]will fill them with (P)corpses,
He [h]will (Q)shatter the [i]chief men over a broad country.
7 He will (R)drink from the brook by the wayside;
Therefore He will (S)lift up His head.
Prayer for the Lord’s Blessing upon the Sanctuary.
A Song of Ascents.
132 Remember, Lord, in David’s behalf,
All (A)his affliction;
2 How he swore to the Lord
And vowed to (B)the Mighty One of Jacob,
3 “I certainly will not [a]enter (C)my house,
Nor [b]lie on my bed;
4 I will not (D)give sleep to my eyes
Or slumber to my eyelids,
5 Until I find a (E)place for the Lord,
[c]A dwelling place for (F)the Mighty One of Jacob.”
6 Behold, we heard about it in (G)Ephrathah,
We found it in the (H)field of [d]Jaar.
7 Let’s go into His [e](I)dwelling place;
Let’s (J)worship at His (K)footstool.
8 (L)Arise, Lord, to Your (M)resting place,
You and the ark of Your (N)strength.
9 May Your priests be (O)clothed with righteousness,
And may Your (P)godly ones sing for joy.
10 For the sake of Your servant David,
Do not turn away the face of Your (Q)anointed.
11 The Lord has (R)sworn to David
A truth from which He will not turn back:
“I will set upon your throne one (S)from the fruit of your body.
12 If your sons will keep My covenant
And My testimony which I will teach them,
Their sons also will (T)sit upon your throne forever.”
13 For the Lord has (U)chosen Zion;
He has (V)desired it as His dwelling place.
14 “This is My (W)resting place forever;
Here I will (X)dwell, for I have desired it.
15 I will abundantly (Y)bless her food;
I will (Z)satisfy her needy with bread.
16 I will also clothe her (AA)priests with salvation,
And her (AB)godly ones will sing aloud for joy.
17 I will make the (AC)horn of David spring forth there;
I have prepared a (AD)lamp for My anointed.
18 I will (AE)clothe his enemies with shame,
But upon himself his (AF)crown will gleam.”
10 (A)Shout for joy and rejoice, daughter of Zion; for behold I am coming and I will (B)dwell in your midst,” declares the Lord. 11 “And (C)many nations will join themselves to the Lord on that day and will become My people. Then I will (D)dwell in your midst, and you will (E)know that the Lord of armies has sent Me to you. 12 And the Lord will [a](F)possess Judah as His portion in the holy land, and will again (G)choose Jerusalem.
13 “[b](H)Be silent, all [c]mankind, before the Lord; for He has (I)roused Himself from His holy dwelling.”
God Is Love
7 (A)Beloved, let’s (B)love one another; for love is from God, and (C)everyone who loves has been (D)born of God and (E)knows God. 8 The one who does not love does not know God, because (F)God is love. 9 By this the love of God was revealed [a](G)in us, that (H)God has sent His only Son into the world so that we may live through Him. 10 In this is love, (I)not that we loved God, but that (J)He loved us and sent His Son to be (K)the [b]propitiation for our sins. 11 (L)Beloved, if God so loved us, (M)we also ought to love one another. 12 (N)No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God remains in us, and His (O)love is perfected in us. 13 (P)By this we know that we remain in Him and He in us, because He has given to us of His Spirit. 14 We have seen and (Q)testify that the Father has (R)sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.
15 (S)Whoever confesses that (T)Jesus is the Son of God, God (U)remains in him, and he in God. 16 (V)We have come to know and have believed the love which God has [c](W)for us. (X)God is love, and the one who (Y)remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him.
31 “(A)He who comes from above is above all; (B)the one who is only from the earth is of the earth and speaks of the earth. (C)He who comes from heaven is above all. 32 What He has seen and heard, of this He (D)testifies; and (E)no one accepts His testimony. 33 The one who has accepted His testimony (F)has certified that God is true. 34 For He whom God (G)sent speaks the words of God; (H)for He does not give the Spirit [a]sparingly. 35 (I)The Father loves the Son and (J)has entrusted all things to His hand. 36 The one who (K)believes in the Son has eternal life; but the one who (L)does not [b]obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”
