31 To David himself, understanding. Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

² Blessed is the man to whom the Lord hath not imputed sin, and in whose spirit there is no guile.

³ Because I was silent my bones grew old; whilst I cried out all the day long.

⁴ For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: I am turned in my anguish, whilst the thorn is fastened.

⁵ I have acknowledged my sin to thee, and my injustice I have not concealed. I said I will confess against myself my injustice to the Lord: and thou hast forgiven the wickedness of my sin.

⁶ For this shall every one that is holy pray to thee in a seasonable time. And yet in a flood of many waters, they shall not come nigh unto him.

⁷ Thou art my refuge from the trouble which hath encompassed me: my joy, deliver me from them that surround me.

⁸ I will give thee understanding, and I will instruct thee in this way, in which thou shalt go: I will fix my eyes upon thee.

⁹ Do not become like the horse and the mule, who have no understanding. With bit and bridle bind fast their jaws, who come not near unto thee.

¹⁰ Many are the scourges of the sinner, but mercy shall encompass him that hopeth in the Lord.

¹¹ Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, ye just, and glory, all ye right of heart.

35 Unto the end, for the servant of God, David himself.

² The unjust hath said within himself, that he would sin: there is no fear of God before his eyes.

³ For in his sight he hath done deceitfully, that his iniquity may be found unto hatred.

⁴ The words of his mouth are iniquity and guile: he would not understand that he might do well.

⁵ He hath devised iniquity on his bed, he hath set himself on every way that is not good: but evil he hath not hated.

⁶ O Lord, thy mercy is in heaven, and thy truth reacheth, even to the clouds.

⁷ Thy justice is as the mountains of God, thy judgments are a great deep. Men and beasts thou wilt preserve, O Lord:

⁸ O how hast thou multiplied thy mercy, O God! But the children of men shall put their trust under the covert of thy wings.

⁹ They shall be inebriated with the plenty of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the torrent of thy pleasure.

¹⁰ For with thee is the fountain of life; and in thy light we shall see light.

¹¹ Extend thy mercy to them that know thee, and thy justice to them that are right in heart.

¹² Let not the foot of pride come to me, and let not the hand of the sinner move me.

¹³ There the workers of iniquity are fallen, they are cast out, and could not stand.

5 And Moses called all Israel, and said to them: Hear, O Israel, the ceremonies and judgments, which I speak in your ears this day: learn them, and fulfill them in work.

² The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.

³ He made not the covenant with our fathers, but with us, who are now present and living.

⁴ He spoke to us face to face in the mount out of the midst of fire.

⁵ I was the mediator and stood between the Lord and you at that time, to shew you his words, for you feared the fire, and went not up into the mountain, and he said:

⁶ I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

⁷ Thou shalt not have strange gods in my sight.

⁸ Thou shalt not make to thyself a graven thing, nor the likeness of any things, that are in heaven above, or that are in the earth beneath, or that abide in the waters under the earth.

⁹ Thou shalt not adore them, and thou shalt not serve them. For I am the Lord thy God, a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon their children unto the third and fourth generation, to them that hate me,

¹⁰ And shewing mercy unto many thousands, to them that love me, and keep my commandments.

¹¹ Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain: for he shall not be unpunished that taketh his name upon a vain thing.

¹² Observe the day of the sabbath, to sanctify it, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee.

¹³ Six days shalt thou labour, and shalt do all thy works.

¹⁴ The seventh is the day of the sabbath, that is, the rest of the Lord thy God. Thou shalt not do any work therein, thou nor thy son nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant nor thy maidservant, nor thy ox, nor thy ass, nor any of thy beasts, nor the stranger that is within thy gates: that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest, even as thyself.

¹⁵ Remember that thou also didst serve in Egypt, and the Lord thy God brought thee out from thence with a strong hand, and a stretched out arm. Therefore hath he commanded thee that thou shouldst observe the sabbath day.

¹⁶ Honour thy father and mother, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee, that thou mayst live a long time, and it may be well with thee in the land, which the Lord thy God will give thee.

¹⁷ Thou shalt not kill.

¹⁸ Neither shalt thou commit adultery.

¹⁹ And thou shalt not steal.

²⁰ Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour.

²¹ Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife: nor his house, nor his field, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is his.

²² These words the Lord spoke to all the multitude of you in the mountain, out of the midst of the fire and the cloud, and the darkness, with a loud voice, adding nothing more: and he wrote them in two tables of stone, which he delivered unto me.

4 Therefore, seeing we have this ministration, according as we have obtained mercy, we faint not;

² But we renounce the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor adulterating the word of God; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience, in the sight of God.

³ And if our gospel be also hid, it is hid to them that are lost,

⁴ In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of unbelievers, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not shine unto them.

⁵ For we preach not ourselves, but Jesus Christ our Lord; and ourselves your servants through Jesus.

⁶ For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God, in the face of Christ Jesus.

⁷ But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency may be of the power of God, and not of us.

⁸ In all things we suffer tribulation, but are not distressed; we are straitened, but are not destitute;

⁹ We suffer persecution, but are not forsaken; we are cast down, but we perish not:

¹⁰ Always bearing about in our body the mortification of Jesus, that the life also of Jesus may be made manifest in our bodies.

¹¹ For we who live are always delivered unto death for Jesus' sake; that the life also of Jesus may be made manifest in our mortal flesh.

¹² So then death worketh in us, but life in you.

¹⁰ He that is faithful in that which is least, is faithful also in that which is greater: and he that is unjust in that which is little, is unjust also in that which is greater.

¹¹ If then you have not been faithful in the unjust mammon; who will trust you with that which is the true?

¹² And if you have not been faithful in that which is another's; who will give you that which is your own?

¹³ No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

¹⁴ Now the Pharisees, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.

¹⁵ And he said to them: You are they who justify yourselves before men, but God knoweth your hearts; for that which is high to men, is an abomination before God.

¹⁶ The law and the prophets were until John; from that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every one useth violence towards it.

¹⁷ And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fall.

¹⁸ Every one that putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and he that marrieth her that is put away from her husband, committeth adultery.
