Psalm 24

The King of Glory

A psalm of David.[a]

24 The earth is Yahweh’s, with its fullness,
the world and those who live in it,
because he has founded it on the seas,
and has established it on the rivers.
Who may ascend the mountain of Yahweh?
And who may stand in his holy place?
He who is innocent of hands and pure of heart,
who does not lift up his soul to falseness,
and does not swear deceitfully.
He will receive blessing from Yahweh,
and justice[b] from the God of his salvation.
Such is the sort of those who seek[c] him,
those who seek your face, even Jacob. Selah
Lift up your heads, O gates,
and rise up, O ancient doorways,
that the king of glory[d] may enter.
Who is the king of glory?[e]
Yahweh, strong and mighty;
Yahweh, mighty in war!
Lift up your heads, O gates,
and lift up, O ancient doorways,
that the king of glory[f] may enter.
10 Who is the king of glory?[g]
Yahweh of hosts,
He is the king of glory![h] Selah

Psalm 29

Praise to God for His Glory and Strength

A psalm of David.[a]

29 Ascribe to Yahweh, O sons of God,[b]
ascribe to Yahweh glory and strength.
Ascribe to Yahweh the glory due[c] his name.
Worship Yahweh in holy array.
The voice of Yahweh is over the waters;
the God of glory thunders.
Yahweh is over many waters.
The voice of Yahweh is powerful.
The voice of Yahweh is majestic.
The voice of Yahweh breaks the cedars.
Yahweh shatters even the cedars of Lebanon.
And he makes them skip like a calf;
Lebanon and Sirion like a young wild ox.
The voice of Yahweh flashes[d] flames of fire.
The voice of Yahweh shakes the wilderness.
Yahweh shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
The voice of Yahweh causes deer[e] to give birth
and strips the forests bare.
And at his temple all in it say, “Glory!”
10 Yahweh sits enthroned at the flood,
and Yahweh sits as king forever.
11 May Yahweh give strength to his people.
May Yahweh bless his people with peace.

Psalm 103

Thanksgiving for Yahweh’s Compassion

Of David.[a]

103 Bless Yahweh, O my soul,
and all within me, bless his holy name.
Bless Yahweh, O my soul,
and do not forget all his benefits:
who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with loyal love and mercies,
who satisfies your life with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Yahweh does deeds of justice
and judgments for all who are oppressed,
who made known his ways to Moses,
his deeds to the people[b] of Israel.
Yahweh is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger[c] and abundant in loyal love.
He does not dispute continually,
nor keep his anger forever.
10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins,
nor repaid us according to our iniquities.
11 For as the heavens are high above the earth,
so his loyal love prevails over those who fear him.
12 As far as east is from west,
so he has removed far from us the guilt of our transgressions.
13 As a father pities[d] his children,
so Yahweh pities[e] those who fear him.
14 For he knows our frame.[f]
He remembers that we are dust.
15 As for man, his days are like the grass.
As the flower of the field, so he blossoms.
16 When the wind passes over it, it is no more,
and its place knows it no longer.
17 But the loyal love of Yahweh
is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him,
and his righteousness to their children’s children,
18 to those who keep his covenant
and remember to do his precepts.
19 Yahweh has established his throne in the heavens,
and his kingdom rules over all.
20 Bless Yahweh, you his angels,
you mighty heroes who do his word
by obeying[g] the sound of his word.
21 Bless Yahweh, all you his hosts,
you his attendants who do his will.
22 Bless Yahweh, all his works,[h]
in all the places of his dominion.
Bless Yahweh, O my soul.

Zechariah 9:9-12

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Look! Your king comes to you;
    he is righteous and victorious,
humble and riding on a donkey,
and on a male donkey, the foal of[a] a female donkey!
10 And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim,
    and the horse from Jerusalem;
the battle bow will be cut down,
and he will announce peace to the nations.
His dominion will be from sea to sea,
and from the River[b] to the ends of the earth.
11 As for you also, because of the blood of your covenant,
I will release your prisoners from the waterless pit.[c]
12 Return to the fortress,
    O prisoners of hope;
today I am declaring that I will repay you double.

Zechariah 12:9-11

And then[a] on that day I will seek to destroy all the nations coming against Jerusalem.

10 “‘I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants[b] of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication, and they will look to me whom they pierced, and they shall mourn over him, as one wails over an only child, and they will grieve bitterly over him as one grieves bitterly over a firstborn. 11 On that day the wailing will be great in Jerusalem, like the wailing for Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.

Zechariah 13:1

13 “‘On that day a well will be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and from impurity.[a]

Zechariah 13:7-9

The Sword Shall Strike the Shepherd

“O sword, awake against my shepherd,
against the man who is my associate,”
        declares[a] Yahweh of hosts.
“Strike the shepherd,
so that the sheep[b] may be scattered,
and I will turn my hand against the small ones.
And then[c] in all the land,” declares[d] Yahweh,
two thirds[e] will be cut off and perish,
and one third will be left alive[f] in it.
And I will bring the remaining third into the fire,
and I will refine them like one refines silver,
and I will test them like one tests gold.
They[g] will call my name,
    and I will answer them.[h]
I will say, ‘They[i] are my people,’
and they[j] will say, ‘Yahweh is my God.’”

1 Timothy 6:12-16

12 Fight the good fight of the faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 13 I command you, in the sight of God who gives life to all things and Christ Jesus who testified the good confession before Pontius Pilate, 14 that you observe the commandment without fault, irreproachable until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 which he will make known in his own time, the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of those who reign as kings and Lord of those who rule as lords, 16 the one who alone possesses immortality, who lives in unapproachable light, whom no human being has seen nor is able to see, to whom be honor and eternal power. Amen.

Matthew 21:12-17

The Cleansing of the Temple

12 And Jesus entered the temple courts[a] and drove out all those who were selling and buying in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those who were selling doves. 13 And he said to them, “It is written, ‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’[b] but you have made it a cave of robbers!”

14 And the blind and the lame came up to him in the temple courts[c] and he healed them. 15 But when[d] the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children shouting in the temple courts[e] and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant. 16 And they said to him, “Do you hear what these children[f] are saying?” So Jesus said to them, “Yes, have you never read, ‘Out of the mouths of children and nursing babies you have prepared for yourself praise’?”[g] 17 And leaving them, he went outside of the city to Bethany and spent the night there.
