Psalm 118

Psalm 118[a]

Thanksgiving for Salvation

[b]Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
    his kindness[c] endures forever.
Let Israel say,
    “His kindness endures forever.”
Let the house of Aaron say,
    “His kindness endures forever.”
Let those who fear the Lord[d] say,
    “His kindness endures forever.”
[e]In my distress I called out to the Lord;
    he answered by setting me free.
With the Lord to protect me I am not afraid.
    What can mortals do to me?
The Lord is at my side to offer me help;
    I will look down upon my enemies.
[f]It is better to take refuge in the Lord
    than to place your trust in mortals.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
    than to place your trust in princes.
10 [g]All the nations surrounded me;
    in the name of the Lord I overcame them.
11 They surrounded me on every side;
    in the name of the Lord I overcame them.
12 They swarmed around me like bees;
    they blazed like a fire in the midst of thorns;
    in the name of the Lord I overcame them.
13 I was hard pressed and close to falling,
    but the Lord came to my aid.
14 The Lord is my strength and my song,
    and he has become my salvation.[h]
15 Joyful shouts of triumph
    ring out in the tents of the righteous:
“The right hand of the Lord has done wondrous deeds;
16     the right hand of the Lord is exalted;
    the right hand of the Lord has done wondrous deeds.”
17 I shall not die; rather I shall live
    and recount[i] the works of the Lord.
18 Even though the Lord punished me harshly,
    he did not hand me over to death.
19 [j]Open to me the gates of righteousness
    so that I may enter them and praise the Lord.
20 This is the gate of the Lord
    through which the righteous enter.
21 I thank you for having answered me;
    you have become my salvation.
22 [k]The stone that the builders rejected
    has become the cornerstone.
23 This is the Lord’s doing,
    and it is marvelous in our eyes.
24 This is the day that the Lord has made;[l]
    let us exult and rejoice in it.
25 Lord, grant us salvation.[m]
    Lord, grant us success.
26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.[n]
    We bless you from the house of the Lord.
27 The Lord is God,
    and he has given us light.
Holding leafy branches, join in the festal procession
    up to the horns of the altar.[o]
28 [p]You are my God, and I will offer thanks to you;
    you are my God, and I will extol you.
29 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
    his kindness endures forever.

Psalm 119[q]

Praise of God’s Law

Aleph

Psalm 145

Psalm 145[a]

Praise of the Divine Majesty

[b]Praise. Of David.

I will extol you, my God and King;
    I will bless your name[c] forever and ever.
Every day I will bless you
    and praise your name forever and ever.[d]
[e]Great is the Lord and worthy of the highest praise;
    no one can even begin to comprehend his greatness.[f]
Each generation will praise your works[g] to the next
    and proclaim your mighty deeds.
People will proclaim the glorious splendor of your majesty,
    and I will meditate on your wonderful works.
They will speak of the power of your awesome deeds,
    and I will relate your greatness.
They will celebrate your abundant goodness
    and sing joyfully of your saving justice.
[h]The Lord is gracious and merciful,
    slow to anger and abounding in kindness.[i]
The Lord is good to all,
    showing compassion to every creature.
10 All your creatures praise you,[j]Lord,
    and all your saints bless you.
11 They relate the glory of your kingdom
    and tell of all your power.[k]
12 They make known to all people your mighty deeds
    and the glorious majesty of your kingdom.
13 Your kingdom will last forever,
    and your dominion will endure throughout all generations.[l]
[m]The Lord is faithful in all his promises
    and kind[n] in all his deeds.
14 The Lord supports all those who are falling
    and raises up all who are bowed down.[o]
15 The eyes of all look hopefully to you,
    and you give them their food at the right time.
16 You open your hand
    and satisfy the needs of every living creature.[p]
17 [q]The Lord is righteous in all his ways
    and merciful in everything he does.[r]
18 The Lord is near to all who call out to him,
    to all who call out to him sincerely.[s]
19 He satisfies the desires of all who fear him;
    he hears their cry and saves them.[t]
20 The Lord watches over all who love him,
    but he will completely destroy all the wicked.[u]
21 May my mouth declare the praise of the Lord,
    and may every creature[v] bless his holy name
    forever and ever.

Judges 16:15-31

15 She said to him, “How can you say, ‘I love you,’ when you hold back your love from me. You have mocked me these three times; you have not told me where your strength lies.” 16 She wore him out by talking to him day after day, and nagging him, until he was tired to death, 17 so he told her everything. He said to her, “No razor has ever touched my head because I have been a Nazirite of God from my mother’s womb. If I were to be shaved, then my strength would disappear and I would become as weak as any other man.”

18 When Delilah saw that he had told her everything, she summoned the lords of the Philistines saying, “Come back one more time, for he has told me everything.” The lords of the Philistines came to her, the money in their hands. 19 She had him fall asleep upon her knees, and she summoned a man to shave off the seven locks on his head. Thus, she began to subdue him, and his strength left him. 20 She cried out, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you.” He woke up from his sleep and said, “I will go out like the previous times and shake myself free.” He did not know that the Lord had left him.[a]

21 The Philistines seized him and gouged out his eyes. They took him down to Gaza and bound him in bronze shackles, setting him to grind grain in prison.

22 Samson’s Revenge and Death. The hair on his head began to grow back after it had been shaved off. 23 The lords of the Philistines gathered to offer a great sacrifice to their god Dagon.[b] They celebrated and said, “Our god has delivered us from the hands of Samson, our enemy.” 24 When the people saw him, they praised their god saying, “Our god has delivered our enemy into our hands, the one who laid waste to our country and killed so many of us.” 25 While they were in high spirits, they cried out, “Call out Samson so that he can entertain us.” They summoned Samson out of the prison, and he entertained them. They set him between the pillars. 26 Samson said to the boy who was holding his hand, “Let me feel the pillars on which the temple is set so I can lean against them.” 27 The temple was packed with men and women, and all of the lords of the Philistines were there as well. There were also about three thousand men and women upon the roof, watching while Samson was amusing them.

28 Samson called out to the Lord and said, “O Lord, please remember me. I beg you, please strengthen me[c] this one more time so that I might take vengeance upon the Philistines for my two eyes.”

29 Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the temple was set. He braced himself against them, one with his right hand and one with his left hand. 30 Samson said, “Let me die with the Philistines.” He pushed with all his might, and the house came crashing down upon the lords and upon all of the people. Thus, he killed more people with his death than he had killed during his life. 31 His brothers and all of his father’s household went down to get him. They brought him back and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the tomb of Manoah his father. He was a judge over Israel for twenty years.

2 Corinthians 13:1-11

Chapter 13

This will be the third visit I am making to you. Every charge must be established on the testimony of two or three witnesses. I warned those who have sinned, as well as everyone else, and I warn them now in my absence as I did when present on my second visit: when I come again, I will spare no one.

This will give you the proof you seek that Christ is speaking in me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but he is powerful among you. For he was crucified in weakness, but he is now alive by the power of God. Similarly, we are weak in him, but in dealing with you we will live in the power of God.

Examine Yourselves. Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you? If he is not, then you have failed the test. It is my hope that you will come to the realization that we have not failed. But we pray to God that you may not do anything wrong—not so that we may appear to have passed the test, but so that you may do what is right, even though we may appear to have failed.

We have no power to do anything against the truth but only for the truth. We rejoice when we are weak, just as long as you are strong. This is what we desire—that you may become perfect.

10 I am writing this letter prior to my arrival so that when I come I may not have to treat you harshly in exercising the authority that the Lord has given me to build up and not to tear down.

Conclusion[a]

11 Live in Peace. And now, brethren, farewell. Mend your ways. Encourage one another. Be of one mind and live in peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you.

Mark 5:25-34

25 There was a woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years. 26 In spite of long and painful treatment at the hands of many doctors, her condition not only had failed to improve but had actually become worse, and she had spent everything she had. 27 Having heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 for she thought, “If I simply touch his clothing, I shall be made well.” 29 And immediately her bleeding dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction.

30 Instantly aware that power had gone forth from him, Jesus turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothing?” 31 His disciples said in reply, “You see this vast throng pressing upon you. How can you ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ” 32 However, he continued to look around to determine who had done it. 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, approached in fear and trembling. She knelt before him and revealed to him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your affliction.”
