Psalm 66[a]
For the music director, a song, a psalm.
66 Shout out praise to God, all the earth!
2 Sing praises about the majesty of his reputation.[b]
Give him the honor he deserves![c]
3 Say to God:
“How awesome are your deeds!
Because of your great power your enemies cower in fear[d] before you.
4 All the earth worships[e] you
and sings praises to you.
They sing praises to your name.” (Selah)
5 Come and witness[f] God’s exploits![g]
His acts on behalf of people are awesome.[h]
6 He turned the sea into dry land;[i]
they passed through the river on foot.[j]
Let us rejoice in him there.[k]
7 He rules[l] by his power forever;
he watches[m] the nations.
Stubborn rebels should not exalt[n] themselves. (Selah)
8 Praise[o] our God, you nations.
Loudly proclaim his praise.[p]
9 He preserves our lives[q]
and does not allow our feet to slip.
10 For[r] you, O God, tested us;
you purified us like refined silver.
11 You led us into a trap;[s]
you caused us to suffer.[t]
12 You allowed men to ride over our heads;
we passed through fire and water,
but you brought us out into a wide open place.[u]
13 I will enter[v] your temple with burnt sacrifices;
I will fulfill the vows I made to you,
14 which my lips uttered
and my mouth spoke when I was in trouble.
15 I will offer up to you fattened animals as burnt sacrifices,
along with the smell of sacrificial rams.
I will offer cattle and goats. (Selah)
16 Come! Listen, all you who are loyal to God.[w]
I will declare what he has done for me.
17 I cried out to him for help[x]
and praised him with my tongue.[y]
18 If I had harbored sin in my heart,[z]
the Lord would not have listened.
19 However, God heard;
he listened to my prayer.
20 God deserves praise,[aa]
for[ab] he did not reject my prayer
or abandon his love for me.[ac]
Psalm 67[ad]
For the music director, to be accompanied by stringed instruments; a psalm, a song.
67 May God show us his favor[ae] and bless us.[af]
May he smile on us.[ag] (Selah)
2 Then those living on earth will know what you are like;
all nations will know how you deliver your people.[ah]
3 Let the nations thank you, O God.
Let all the nations thank you.[ai]
4 Let foreigners[aj] rejoice and celebrate.
For you execute justice among the nations,
and govern the people living on earth.[ak] (Selah)
5 Let the nations thank you, O God.
Let all the nations thank you.[al]
6 The earth yields its crops.
May God, our God, bless us.
7 May God bless us.[am]
Then all the ends of the earth will give him the honor he deserves.[an]
4 He said to me, “Son of man, go to the house of Israel and speak my words to them. 5 For you are not being sent to a people of unintelligible speech[a] and difficult language,[b] but[c] to the house of Israel— 6 not to many peoples of unintelligible speech and difficult language, whose words you cannot understand.[d] Surely if[e] I had sent you to them, they would listen to you! 7 But the house of Israel is unwilling to listen to you,[f] because they are not willing to listen to me,[g] for the whole house of Israel is hardheaded and hardhearted.[h]
8 “I have made your face adamant[i] to match their faces, and your forehead hard to match their foreheads. 9 I have made your forehead harder than flint—like diamond![j] Do not fear them or be terrified of the looks they give you,[k] for they are a rebellious house.”
10 And he said to me, “Son of man, take all my words that I speak to you to heart and listen carefully. 11 Go to the exiles, to your fellow countrymen,[l] and speak to them. Say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says,’ whether they pay attention or not.”
34 Then Peter started speaking:[a] “I now truly understand that God does not show favoritism in dealing with people,[b] 35 but in every nation[c] the person who fears him[d] and does what is right[e] is welcomed before him. 36 You know[f] the message[g] he sent to the people[h] of Israel, proclaiming the good news of peace[i] through[j] Jesus Christ[k] (he is Lord[l] of all)— 37 you know what happened throughout Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism that John announced:[m] 38 with respect to Jesus from Nazareth,[n] that[o] God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power. He[p] went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil,[q] because God was with him.[r] 39 We[s] are witnesses of all the things he did both in Judea[t] and in Jerusalem. They[u] killed him by hanging him on a tree,[v] 40 but[w] God raised him up on the third day and caused him to be seen,[x] 41 not by all the people, but by us, the witnesses God had already chosen,[y] who ate and drank[z] with him after he rose from the dead. 42 He[aa] commanded us to preach to the people and to warn[ab] them[ac] that he is the one[ad] appointed[ae] by God as judge[af] of the living and the dead. 43 About him all the prophets testify,[ag] that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins[ah] through his name.”
The Gentiles Receive the Holy Spirit
44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on[ai] all those who heard the message.[aj]
Psalm 118[a]
118 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
and his loyal love endures.[b]
2 Let Israel say,
“Yes, his loyal love endures.”
3 Let the family[c] of Aaron say,
“Yes, his loyal love endures.”
4 Let the loyal followers of the Lord[d] say,
“Yes, his loyal love endures.”
5 In my distress[e] I cried out to the Lord.
The Lord answered me and put me in a wide open place.[f]
6 The Lord is on my side;[g] I am not afraid.
What can people do to me?[h]
7 The Lord is on my side[i] as my helper.[j]
I look in triumph on those who hate me.
8 It is better to take shelter[k] in the Lord
than to trust in people.
9 It is better to take shelter in the Lord
than to trust in princes.
10 All the nations surrounded me.[l]
Indeed, in the name of the Lord[m] I pushed them away.[n]
11 They surrounded me, yes, they surrounded me.
Indeed, in the name of the Lord I pushed them away.
12 They surrounded me like bees.
But they disappeared as quickly[o] as a fire among thorns.[p]
Indeed, in the name of the Lord I pushed them away.
13 “You aggressively attacked me[q] and tried to knock me down,[r]
but the Lord helped me.
14 The Lord gives me strength and protects me;[s]
he has become my deliverer.”[t]
15 They celebrate deliverance in the tents of the godly.[u]
The Lord’s right hand conquers.[v]
16 The Lord’s right hand gives victory;[w]
the Lord’s right hand conquers.
17 I will not die, but live,
and I will proclaim what the Lord has done.[x]
18 The Lord severely[y] punished me,
but he did not hand me over to death.
19 Open for me the gates of the just king’s temple.[z]
I will enter through them and give thanks to the Lord.
20 This is the Lord’s gate—
the godly enter through it.
21 I will give you thanks, for you answered me,
and have become my deliverer.
22 The stone that the builders discarded[aa]
has become the cornerstone.[ab]
23 This is the Lord’s work.
We consider it amazing![ac]
24 This is the day the Lord has brought about.[ad]
We will be happy and rejoice in it.
25 Please, Lord, deliver!
Please, Lord, grant us success![ae]
26 May the one who comes in the name of the Lord[af] be blessed.
We will pronounce blessings on you[ag] in the Lord’s temple.[ah]
27 The Lord is God, and he has delivered us.[ai]
Tie the offering[aj] with ropes
to the horns of the altar.[ak]
28 You are my[al] God, and I will give you thanks.
You are my God and I will praise you.
29 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good
and his loyal love endures.[am]
Peter’s Restoration
15 Then when they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John,[a] do you love me more than these do?”[b] He replied,[c] “Yes, Lord, you know I love you.”[d] Jesus[e] told him, “Feed my lambs.” 16 Jesus[f] said[g] a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He replied,[h] “Yes, Lord, you know I love you.” Jesus[i] told him, “Shepherd my sheep.” 17 Jesus[j] said[k] a third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was distressed[l] that Jesus[m] asked[n] him a third time, “Do you love me?” and said,[o] “Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.” Jesus[p] replied,[q] “Feed my sheep. 18 I tell you the solemn truth,[r] when you were young, you tied your clothes around you[s] and went wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and others will tie you up[t] and bring you where you do not want to go.” 19 (Now Jesus[u] said this to indicate clearly by what kind of death Peter[v] was going to glorify God.)[w] After he said this, Jesus told Peter,[x] “Follow me.”
Peter and the Disciple Jesus Loved
20 Peter turned around and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them.[y] (This was the disciple[z] who had leaned back against Jesus’[aa] chest at the meal and asked,[ab] “Lord, who is the one who is going to betray you?”)[ac] 21 So when Peter saw him,[ad] he asked Jesus, “Lord, what about him?” 22 Jesus replied,[ae] “If I want him to live[af] until I come back,[ag] what concern is that of yours? You follow me!”
