Book of Common Prayer
Praise Yahweh!
148 [a]Praise Yah!
Praise Yahweh (A)from the heavens;
Praise Him (B)in the heights!
2 Praise Him, (C)all His angels;
Praise Him, (D)all His hosts!
3 Praise Him, sun and moon;
Praise Him, all stars of light!
4 Praise Him, (E)heavens of heavens,
And the (F)waters that are above the heavens!
5 Let them praise the name of Yahweh,
For (G)He commanded and they were created.
6 He caused them to (H)stand forever and ever;
He gave a (I)statute and it will never pass away.
7 Praise Yahweh from the earth,
(J)Sea monsters and all (K)deeps;
8 (L)Fire and hail, (M)snow and (N)clouds;
(O)Stormy wind, (P)doing His word;
9 (Q)Mountains and all hills;
Fruit (R)trees and all cedars;
10 (S)Beasts and all cattle;
(T)Creeping things and winged bird;
11 (U)Kings of the earth and all peoples;
Princes and all [b]judges of the earth;
12 Both choice men as well as virgins;
The old with the young.
In the Shadow of the Almighty
91 He who abides in the (A)shelter of the Most High
Will abide in the (B)shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say to Yahweh, “My (C)refuge and my (D)fortress,
My God, in whom I (E)trust!”
3 For it is He who delivers you from the (F)snare of the trapper
And from the destructive (G)pestilence.
4 He will (H)cover you with His pinions,
And (I)under His wings you will take refuge;
His (J)truth is a (K)large shield and bulwark.
5 You (L)will not be afraid of (M)terror by night,
Or (N)arrow that flies by day;
6 Of (O)pestilence that moves in darkness,
Or of (P)destruction that devastates at noon.
7 A thousand may fall at your side
And ten thousand at your right hand,
But (Q)it shall not approach you.
8 You will only look on with your eyes
And (R)see the recompense of the wicked.
9 [a]For you have made Yahweh—(S)my refuge,
The Most High—(T)your dwelling place.
10 (U)No evil will befall you,
And no plague will come near your [b]tent.
11 For He will command (V)His angels concerning you,
To guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will (W)bear you up,
Lest you strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will (X)tread upon the fierce lion and cobra,
The young lion and the [c]serpent you will trample down.
14 “(Y)Because he has loved Me, therefore I will protect him;
I will (Z)set him securely on high, because he has (AA)known My name.
15 He will (AB)call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in his [d]distress;
I will rescue him and (AC)honor him.
16 With [e]a (AD)long life I will satisfy him
And (AE)I will show him My salvation.”
How Great Are Your Works, O Yahweh
A Psalm. A Song for the Sabbath day.
92 It is (AF)good to give thanks to Yahweh
And to (AG)sing praises to Your name, O Most High;
2 To (AH)declare Your lovingkindness in the morning
And Your (AI)faithfulness [f]by night,
3 [g]With the (AJ)ten-stringed lute and with the (AK)harp,
[h]With resounding music [i]upon the (AL)lyre.
4 For You, O Yahweh, have made me glad by [j]what You (AM)have done,
I will (AN)sing for joy at the (AO)works of Your hands.
5 How (AP)great are Your works, O Yahweh!
Your [k](AQ)thoughts are very (AR)deep.
6 A (AS)senseless man does not know,
And a (AT)fool does not understand this:
7 That when the wicked (AU)flourished like grass
And all (AV)the workers of iniquity blossomed,
It was only that they might be (AW)destroyed forevermore.
8 But You are (AX)on high forever, O Yahweh.
9 For, behold, Your enemies, O Yahweh,
For, behold, (AY)Your enemies will perish;
All the workers of iniquity will be (AZ)scattered.
10 But You have raised up my (BA)horn like that of the wild ox;
I have [l]been (BB)anointed with fresh oil.
11 And my eye has (BC)looked exultantly upon [m]my foes,
My ears hear of the evildoers who rise up against me.
12 The (BD)righteous man will [n]flourish like the palm tree,
He will grow like a (BE)cedar in Lebanon.
13 (BF)Planted in the house of Yahweh,
They will flourish (BG)in the courts of our God.
14 They will still [o](BH)yield fruit in old age;
They shall be [p]rich and fresh,
15 To [q]declare that (BI)Yahweh is upright;
He is my (BJ)rock, and there is (BK)no unrighteousness in Him.
13 Therefore, thus says Lord Yahweh,
“Behold, My slaves will (A)eat, but you will be (B)hungry.
Behold, My slaves will (C)drink, but you will be (D)thirsty.
Behold, My slaves will (E)be glad, but you will be (F)put to shame.
14 Behold, My slaves will (G)shout joyfully with a merry heart,
But you will (H)cry out with a pained heart,
And you will wail with a broken spirit.
15 You will leave your name for a [a](I)curse to My chosen ones,
And Lord Yahweh will put you to death.
But [b]My slaves will be called by (J)another name,
16 Because he who [c]is blessed in the earth
Will [d]be blessed by the (K)God of truth,
And he who swears in the earth
Will (L)swear by the God of truth;
Because the former distresses are forgotten,
And because they are hidden from My sight!
To the Church in Philadelphia
7 “And to the angel of the church in (A)Philadelphia write:
(B)This is what He who is holy, (C)who is true, who has (D)the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, and who shuts and no one opens, says:
8 ‘(E)I know your [a]deeds. Behold, I have given before you (F)an open door which no one can shut, because you have a little power, and have kept My word, and (G)have not denied My name. 9 Behold, I am giving up those of (H)the synagogue of Satan, those who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie. Behold, I will make them (I)come and bow down before your feet, and make them know that (J)I have loved you. 10 Because you have (K)kept the word of (L)My perseverance, (M)I also will keep you from the hour of [b](N)testing, which is about to come upon the whole [c](O)world, to [d]test (P)those who dwell on the earth. 11 (Q)I am coming quickly; (R)hold fast what you have, so that no one will take your (S)crown. 12 (T)He who overcomes, I will make him a (U)pillar in the sanctuary of My God, and he will never go out from it anymore. And I will write on him the (V)name of My God, and (W)the name of the city of My God, (X)the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My (Y)new name. 13 (Z)He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’
Jesus Walks on the Sea
15 So Jesus, knowing that they were going to come and take Him by force (A)to make Him king, (B)withdrew again to (C)the mountain by Himself alone.
16 Now when evening came, His (D)disciples went down to the sea, 17 and after getting into a boat, they began to cross the sea (E)to Capernaum. It had already become dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. 18 And the sea *was stirred up because a strong wind was blowing. 19 Then, when they had rowed about [a]twenty-five or thirty stadia, they *saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near to the boat; and they were frightened. 20 But He *said to them, [b]“It is I; [c](F)do not be afraid.” 21 So they were willing to receive Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.
22 On the next day, (G)the crowd which stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other small boat there, except one, and that Jesus (H)had not entered with His disciples into the boat, but that His disciples had gone away alone. 23 Other small boats came from (I)Tiberias near to the place where they ate the bread after the (J)Lord (K)had given thanks. 24 So when the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they themselves got into the small boats, and (L)came to Capernaum seeking Jesus. 25 And when they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, “(M)Rabbi, when did You come here?”
I Am the Bread of Life
26 Jesus answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you (N)seek Me, not because you saw (O)signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27 Do not (P)work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to (Q)eternal life, which (R)the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, (S)set His seal.”
