Psalm 26

Psalm 26

By David.

Judge me favorably, O Yahweh,
because I have walked with integrity
and I have trusted you without wavering.
Examine me, O Yahweh, and test me.
Look closely into my heart and mind.
I see your mercy in front of me.
I walk in the light of your truth.
I did not sit with liars,
and I will not be found among hypocrites.
I have hated the mob of evildoers
and will not sit with wicked people.
I will wash my hands in innocence.
I will walk around your altar, O Yahweh,
so that I may loudly sing a hymn of thanksgiving
and tell about all your miracles.

O Yahweh, I love the house where you live,
the place where your glory dwells.

Do not sweep away my soul along with hardened sinners
or my life along with bloodthirsty people.
10 Evil schemes are in their hands.
Their right hands are full of bribes.
11 But I walk with integrity.
Rescue me, and have pity on me.
12 My feet stand on level ground.
I will praise Yahweh with the choirs in worship.

Psalm 28

Psalm 28

By David.

O Yahweh, I call to you.
O my rock, do not turn a deaf ear to me.
    If you remain silent,
I will be like those who go into the pit.
Hear my prayer for mercy when I call to you for help,
when I lift my hands toward your most holy place.
Do not drag me away with wicked people,
with troublemakers who speak of peace with their neighbors
but have evil in their hearts.
Pay them back for what they have done,
    for their evil deeds.
Pay them back for what their hands have done,
and give them what they deserve.
Yahweh will tear them down and never build them up again,
because they never consider what he has done
or what his hands have made.

Thank Yahweh!
He has heard my prayer for mercy!
Yahweh is my strength and my Magen.
My heart trusted him, so I received help.
My heart is triumphant; I give thanks to him with my song.
Yahweh is the strength of his people
and a fortress for the victory of his Messiah.[a]
Save your people, and bless those who belong to you.
Be their Roeh, and carry them forever.

Psalm 36

Psalm 36

For the choir director; by David, Yahweh’s servant.

There is an inspired truth about the wicked person
who has rebellion in the depths of his heart:
He is not terrified of Elohim.
He flatters himself and does not hate or even recognize his guilt.
The words from his mouth are nothing but trouble and deception.
He has stopped doing what is wise and good.
He invents trouble while lying on his bed
and chooses to go the wrong direction.
    He does not reject evil.

O Yahweh, your mercy reaches to the heavens,
    your faithfulness to the skies.
Your righteousness is like the mountains of Elohim,
your judgments like the deep ocean.
You save people and animals, O Yahweh.
Your mercy is so precious, O Elohim,
    that Adam’s descendants take refuge
in the shadow of your wings.
They are refreshed with the rich foods in your house,
and you make them drink from the river of your pleasure.
Indeed, the fountain of life is with you.
In your light we see light.
10 Continue to show your mercy to those who know you
and your righteousness to those whose motives are decent.
11 Do not let the feet of arrogant people step on me
or the hands of wicked people push me away.
12 Look at the troublemakers who have fallen.
They have been pushed down and are unable to stand up again.

Psalm 39

Psalm 39

For the choir director; for Jeduthun; a psalm by David.

I said,
“I will watch my ways so that I do not sin with my tongue.
I will bridle my mouth while wicked people are in my presence.”
I remained totally speechless.
I kept silent, although it did me no good.
While I was deep in thought, my pain grew worse.
My heart burned like a fire flaring up within me.
Then I spoke with my tongue:
“Teach me, O Yahweh, about the end of my life.
Teach me about the number of days I have left
so that I may know how temporary my life is.
Indeed, you have made the length of my days only a few inches.
My life span is nothing compared to yours.
Certainly, everyone alive is like a whisper in the wind. Selah
Each person who walks around is like a shadow.
They are busy for no reason.
They accumulate riches without knowing who will get them.”

And now, Adonay, what am I waiting for?
    My hope is in you!
Rescue me from all my rebellious acts.
Do not disgrace me in front of godless fools.
I remained speechless.
I did not open my mouth
because you are the one who has done this.
10 Remove the sickness you laid upon me.
My life is over because you struck me with your hand.
11 With stern warnings you discipline people for their crimes.
Like a moth you eat away at what is dear to them.
Certainly, everyone is like a whisper in the wind. Selah

12 Listen to my prayer, O Yahweh.
Open your ear to my cry for help.
Do not be deaf to my tears,
for I am a foreign resident with you,
a stranger like all my ancestors.
13 Look away from me so that I may smile again
before I go away and am no more.

Proverbs 15:16-33

16 Better to have a little with the fear of Yahweh
    than great treasure and turmoil.
17 Better to have a dish of vegetables where there is love
than juicy steaks where there is hate.

18 A hothead stirs up a fight,
but one who holds his temper calms disputes.
19 The path of lazy people is like a thorny hedge,
but the road of decent people is an open highway.

A Wise Son Brings Blessings to Others

20 A wise son makes his father happy,
but a foolish child despises its mother.

21 Stupidity is fun to the one without much sense,
but a person who has understanding forges straight ahead.
22 Without advice plans go wrong,
but with many advisers they succeed.
23 A person is delighted to hear an answer from his own mouth,
and a timely word—oh, how good!

24 The path of life for a wise person leads upward
in order to turn him away from hell below.
25 Yahweh tears down the house of an arrogant person,
but he protects the property of widows.
26 The thoughts of evil people are disgusting to Yahweh,
but pleasant words are pure to him.
27 Whoever is greedy for unjust gain brings trouble to his family,
but whoever hates bribes will live.

28 The heart of a righteous person carefully considers how to answer,
but the mouths of wicked people pour out a flood of evil things.
29 Yahweh is far from wicked people,
but he hears the prayers of righteous people.

30 A twinkle in the eye delights the heart.
    Good news refreshes the body.
31 The ear that listens to a life-giving warning
will be at home among wise people.

32 Whoever ignores discipline despises himself,
but the person who listens to warning gains understanding.
33 The fear of Yahweh is discipline leading to wisdom,
    and humility comes before honor.

1 Timothy 1:18-2:8

Guidelines for the Church

18 Timothy, my child, I’m giving you this order about the prophecies that are still coming to you: Use these prophecies in faith and with a clear conscience to fight this noble war. 19 Some have refused to let their faith guide their conscience and their faith has been destroyed like a wrecked ship.[a] 20 Among these people are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan in order to teach them not to dishonor God.

First of all, I encourage you to make petitions, prayers, intercessions, and prayers of thanks for all people, for rulers, and for everyone who has authority over us. Pray for these people so that we can have a quiet and peaceful life always lived in a godly and reverent way. This is good and pleases God our Savior. He wants all people to be saved and to learn the truth. There is one God. There is also one mediator between God and humans—a human, Christ Yeshua. He sacrificed himself for all people to free them from their sins.

This message is valid for every era. I was appointed to spread this Good News and to be an apostle to teach people who are not Jewish about faith and truth. I’m telling you the truth. I’m not lying.

I want men to offer prayers everywhere. They should raise their hands in prayer after putting aside their anger and any quarrels they have with anyone.

Matthew 12:33-42

33 “Make a tree good, and then its fruit will be good. Or make a tree rotten, and then its fruit will be rotten. A person can recognize a tree by its fruit. 34 You poisonous snakes! How can you evil people say anything good? Your mouth says what comes from inside you. 35 Good people do the good things that are in them. But evil people do the evil things that are in them.

36 “I can guarantee that on judgment day people will have to give an account of every careless word they say. 37 By your words you will be declared innocent, or by your words you will be declared guilty.”

The Sign of Jonah(A)

38 Then some experts in Moses’ Teachings and Pharisees said, “Teacher, we want you to show us a miraculous sign.”

39 He responded, “The people of an evil and unfaithful era look for a miraculous sign. But the only sign they will get is the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40 Just as Jonah was in the belly of a huge fish for three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights. 41 The men of Nineveh will stand up with you at the time of judgment and will condemn you, because they turned to God and changed the way they thought and acted when Jonah spoke his message. But look, someone greater than Jonah is here! 42 The queen from the south will stand up at the time of judgment with you. She will condemn you, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear Solomon’s wisdom. But look, someone greater than Solomon is here!
