Psalm 95

95 1 An earnest exhortation to praise God, 4 for the government of the world and the election of the Church. 8 An admonition not to follow the rebellion of the old fathers, that tempted God in the wilderness. 11 For the which they might not enter into the land of promise.

Come, let us rejoice unto the Lord: let us sing [a]aloud unto the rock of our salvation.

Let us come before his face with praise: let us sing loud unto him with Psalms.

For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all [b]gods,

In whose hand are the deep places of the earth, and the [c]heights of the mountains are his,

To whom the Sea belongeth, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.

Come, let us [d]worship and fall down, and kneel before the Lord our maker.

For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his [e]hand: today, if ye will hear his voice,

[f]Harden not your heart, as in [g]Meribah, and as in the day of [h]Massah in the wilderness,

When your fathers (A)tempted me, proved me, though they had seen my work.

10 Forty years have I contended with this generation, and said, They are a people that [i]err in heart, for they have not known my ways.

11 Wherefore I sware in my wrath, saying, Surely they shall not enter into [j]my rest.

Psalm 22

22 1 David complained because he was brought into such extremities that he was past all hope, but after he had rehearsed the sorrows and griefs, wherewith he was vexed. 10 He recovereth himself from the bottomless pit of tentations, and groweth in hope.  And here under his own person he setteth forth the figure of Christ, whom he did foresee by the spirit of prophecy, that he should marvelously, and strangely be rejected, and abased, before his Father should raise and exalt him again.

To him that excelleth upon [a]Aijeleth Hashahar. A Psalm of David.

My [b]God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me, and art so far from mine health, and from the words of my [c]roaring?

O my God, I cry by day, but thou hearest not: and by night, but [d]have no audience.

But thou art holy, and dost inhabit the [e]praises of Israel.

Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.

They called upon thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.

But I am a [f]worm, and not a man: a shame of men, and the contempt of the people.

All they that see me, have me in derision: they make a mow and nod the head, saying,

[g](A)He trusted in the Lord, let him deliver him: let him save him, seeing he loveth him.

But thou didst draw me out of the [h]womb: thou gavest me hope, even at my mother’s breasts.

10 I was cast upon thee, even from the [i]womb: thou art my God from my mother’s belly.

11 Be not far from me, because trouble is near: for there is none to help me.

12 Many young bulls have compassed me: mighty [j]bulls of Bashan have closed me about.

13 They gape upon me with their mouths, as a ramping and roaring lion.

14 I am like [k]water poured out, and all my bones are out of joint: mine heart is like wax: it is molten in the midst of my bowels.

15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws, and thou [l]hast brought me into the dust of death.

16 For dogs have compassed me, and the assembly of the wicked have enclosed me: they [m]pierced mine hands and my feet.

17 I may tell all my bones, yet they behold, and look upon me.

18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.

19 But be not thou far off, O Lord, my strength: hasten to help me.

20 Deliver my soul from the sword: my [n]desolate soul from the power of the dog.

21 [o]Save me from the lion’s mouth, and answer me in saving me from the horns of the unicorns.

22 (B)I will declare thy Name unto my brethren: in the midst of the Congregation will I praise thee, saying,

23 [p]Praise the Lord, ye that fear him: magnify ye him, all the seed of Jacob, and fear ye him all the seed of Israel.

24 For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the [q]poor: neither hath he hid his face from him, but when he called unto him, he heard.

25 My praise shall be of thee in the great Congregation: my [r]vows will I perform before them that fear him.

26 [s]The poor shall eat and be satisfied: they that seek after the Lord, shall praise him: your heart shall live forever.

27 All the ends of the world shall remember themselves and turn to the Lord, and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.

28 For the kingdom is the Lord’s, and he ruleth among the nations.

29 All they that be fat [t]in the earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down into the dust, shall bow before him, [u]even he that cannot quicken his own soul.

30 [v]Their seed shall serve him: it shall be counted unto the Lord for a generation.

31 They shall come and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, because he hath [w]done it.

Psalm 141

141 1 David being grievously persecuted under Saul, only fleeth unto God to have succor. 3 Desiring him to bridle his affections, that he may patiently abide till God take vengeance of his enemies.

A Psalm of David.

O Lord, I [a]call upon thee: haste thee unto me: hear my voice, when I cry unto thee.

Let my prayer be directed in thy sight as incense, and the [b]lifting up of mine hands as an evening sacrifice.

Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth, and keep the [c]door of my lips.

Incline not mine heart to evil, that I should commit wicked works with them that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their [d]delicates.

Let the righteous smite me: for that is a benefit: and let [e]him reprove me, and it shall be a precious oil that shall not break mine head: for within a while I shall even [f]pray in their miseries.

When their judges shall be cast down in stony places, they shall [g]hear my words, for they are sweet.

Our bones lie scattered at the [h]grave’s mouth, as he that heweth wood or diggeth in the earth.

But mine eyes look unto thee, O Lord God: in thee is my trust: leave not my soul destitute.

Keep me from the snare, which they have laid for me, and from the gins of the workers of iniquity.

10 Let the wicked fall into [i]his nets [j]together, while I escape.

Psalm 143

143 1 An earnest prayer for remission of sins, acknowledging that the enemies did thus cruelly persecute him by God’s just judgment. 8 He desireth to be restored to grace,  10 To be governeth by his holy Spirit, that he may spend the remnant of his life in the true fear and service of God.

A Psalm of David.

Hear my prayer, O Lord, and hearken unto my supplication: answer me in thy [a]truth, and in thy [b]righteousness.

(And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy [c]sight shall none that liveth, be justified.)

For the enemy hath persecuted my soul: he hath smitten my life down to the earth: he hath laid me in the darkness, as they that have been dead [d]long ago:

And my spirit was in perplexity in me, and mine [e]heart within me was amazed.

Yet do I remember the time [f]past: I meditate in all thy works, yea, I do meditate in the works of thine hands.

I stretch forth mine hands unto thee: my soul desireth after thee, as the thirsty land. Selah.

Hear me speedily, O Lord, for my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, else I shall be like unto them that go down into the pit.

Let me hear thy loving-kindness in the [g]morning, for in thee is my trust; [h]show me the way, that I should walk in, for I lift up my soul unto thee.

Deliver me, O Lord, from mine enemies: for [i]I hid me with thee.

10 [j]Teach me to [k]do thy will, for thou art my God: let thy good Spirit lead me unto the land of righteousness.

11 Quicken me, O Lord, for thy Name’s sake, and for thy righteousness bring my soul out of trouble.

12 And for thy mercy [l]slay mine enemies, and destroy all them that oppress my soul: for I am thy [m]servant.

Exodus 9:13-35

13 ¶ Also the Lord said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus saith the Lord God of the Hebrews, Let my people go that they may serve me.

14 For I will at this time send my plagues upon [a]thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people, that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth.

15 For now I will stretch out mine hand, that I may smite thee and thy people with the pestilence: and thou shalt perish from the earth.

16 And indeed, (A)for this cause have [b]I appointed thee, to [c]show my power in thee, and to declare my [d]name throughout all the world.

17 Yet thou exaltest thyself against my people, and lettest them not go.

18 Behold, tomorrow this time I will cause to rain a mighty great hail, such as was not in Egypt since the foundation thereof was laid unto this time.

19 Send therefore now, and [e]gather the cattle, and all that thou hast in the field: for upon all the men, and the beasts, which are found in the field, and not brought home, the hail shall fall upon them, and they shall die.

20 Such then as feared the word of the Lord among the servants of Pharaoh, made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses.

21 But such as [f]regarded not the [g]word of the Lord, left his servants, and his cattle in the field.

22 ¶ And the Lord said to Moses, Stretch forth thine hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon all the herbs of the field in the land of Egypt.

23 Then Moses stretched out his rod toward heaven, and the Lord sent thunder and [h]hail, and [i]lightning upon the ground: and the Lord caused hail to rain upon the land of Egypt.

24 So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, so grievous, as there was none throughout all the land of Egypt, since [j]it was a nation.

25 And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast: also the hail smote all the trees of the field and brake to pieces all the trees of the field.

26 Only in the land of Goshen (where the children of Israel were) was no hail.

27 Then Pharaoh sent and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, I [k]have now sinned: the Lord is righteous, but I and my people are wicked.

28 Pray ye unto the Lord (for it is enough) that there be no more [l]mighty thunders, and hail, and I will let you go, and ye shall tarry no longer.

29 Then Moses said unto him, As soon as I am out of the city, I will spread mine hands unto the Lord, and the thunder shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail, that thou mayest know that (B)the earth is the Lord’s.

30 As for thee and thy servants, I know [m]afore I pray, ye will fear before the face of the Lord God.

31 (And the flax, and the barley were smitten: for the barley was eared, and the flax was bolled.

32 But the wheat and the rye were not smitten, for they were [n]hid in the ground.)

33 Then Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread his hands to the Lord, and the thunder and the hail ceased, neither rained it upon the earth.

34 And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunder were ceased, he sinned again, and hardened his heart, both he, and his servants.

35 So the heart of Pharaoh was hardened: neither would he let the children of Israel go, as the Lord had said [o]by Moses.

2 Corinthians 4:1-12

1 He showeth that he hath so labored in preaching the Gospel, 4 That such are even blinded of Satan, who do not perceive the brightness thereof, 7 that the same is carried in earthen vessels, 10 who are subject to many miseries: 16 and therefore he exhorteth them by his own example to be courageous, 17 and condemn this present life.

Therefore, [a]seeing that we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we [b]faint not:

But have cast from us the [c]cloaks of shame, and walk not in craftiness, neither handle we the word of God [d]deceitfully: but in declaration of the truth we approve ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

[e]If the Gospel be then hid, it is hid to them that are lost.

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds, that is, of the infidels, that the [f]light of the glorious Gospel of Christ, which is the [g]image of God, should not shine unto them.

[h]For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your servants for [i]Jesus’ sake.

For God (A)[j]that commanded the light to shine out of darkness, is he which hath shined in our hearts, to give the [k]light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

[l]But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, [m]that the excellency of that power might be of God, and not of us.

We are afflicted on every side, yet are we not in distress: we are in doubt, but yet we despair not.

We are persecuted, but not forsaken: cast down, but we perish not.

10 [n]Everywhere we bear about in our body the [o]dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus might also be made manifest in our bodies.

11 For we which [p]live, are always delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our [q]mortal flesh.

12 [r]So then death worketh in us, and life in you.

Mark 10:32-45

32 (A)[a]And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus went before them, and they were troubled, and as they followed, they were afraid, and Jesus took the twelve again, and began to tell them what things should come unto him,

33 Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the high Priests, and to the Scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles.

34 And they shall mock him, and scourge him, and spit upon him, and kill him: but the third day he shall rise again.

35 (B)[b]Then James and John the sons of Zebedee came unto him, saying, Master, [c]we would that thou shouldest do for us that we desire.

36 And he said unto them, What would ye I should do for you?

37 And they said to him, Grant unto us, that we may sit, one at thy right hand, and the other at thy left hand in thy glory.

38 But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask. Can ye drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and be baptized with the baptism that I shall be baptized with?

39 And they said unto him, We can. But Jesus said unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of the cup that I shall drink of, and be baptized with the baptism wherewith I shall be baptized:

40 But to sit at my right hand and at my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared.

41 And when the ten heard that, they began to disdain at James and John.

42 [d]But Jesus called them unto him, and said to them, (C)Ye know that [e]they which are princes among the Gentiles, have domination over them, and they that be great among them, exercise authority over them.

43 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your servant.

44 And whosoever will be chief of you, shall be the servant of all.

45 For even the Son of man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life for the ransom of many.
