Psalm 24

The King of Glory

Of David. A Psalm.

24 The (A)earth is Yahweh’s, as well as its fullness,
The (B)world, and those who dwell in it.
For He has (C)founded it upon the seas
And established it upon the rivers.
Who may (D)ascend into the (E)mountain of Yahweh?
And who may rise in His holy (F)place?
He who has (G)innocent hands and a (H)pure heart,
Who has not (I)lifted up his soul [a]to worthlessness
And has not (J)sworn deceitfully.
He shall lift up a (K)blessing from Yahweh
And [b](L)righteousness from the God of his salvation.
[c]This is the generation of those who (M)seek Him,
Who seek Your face—pay heed O Jacob. [d]Selah.

(N)Lift up your heads, O gates,
And be lifted up, O [e]ancient doors,
That the King of (O)glory may come in!
Who is this King of glory?
Yahweh (P)strong and mighty,
Yahweh (Q)mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, O gates,
And lift yourselves up, O [f]ancient doors,
That the King of (R)glory may come in!
10 Who is He, this King of glory?
Yahweh of (S)hosts,
He is the King of glory. Selah.

Psalm 29

The Voice of Yahweh

A Psalm of David.

29 (A)Ascribe to Yahweh, O [a]sons of the mighty,
Ascribe to Yahweh glory and strength.
Ascribe to Yahweh the glory of His name;
Worship Yahweh (B)in the splendor of holiness.

The (C)voice of Yahweh is upon the waters;
The God of glory (D)thunders,
Yahweh is over [b](E)many waters.
The voice of Yahweh is (F)powerful,
The voice of Yahweh is full of splendor.
The voice of Yahweh breaks the cedars;
Indeed, Yahweh breaks in pieces (G)the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes Lebanon (H)skip like a calf,
And (I)Sirion like a young wild ox.
The voice of Yahweh hews out [c]flames of fire.
The voice of Yahweh causes the wilderness to tremble;
Yahweh causes the wilderness of (J)Kadesh to tremble.
The voice of Yahweh makes (K)the deer to calve
And strips the forests bare;
And (L)in His temple everything says, “Glory!”

10 Yahweh sat enthroned over the (M)flood;
Indeed, Yahweh sits as (N)King forever.
11 [d]Yahweh will give (O)strength to His people;
[e]Yahweh will bless His people with (P)peace.

Psalm 8

How Majestic Is Your Name

For the choir director. According to the Gittith. A Psalm of David.

O Yahweh, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth,
Who [a](A)displays Your splendor above the heavens!
(B)From the mouth of infants and nursing babies You have established [b](C)strength
Because of Your adversaries,
To make (D)the enemy and the revengeful cease.

When I (E)see (F)Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The (G)moon and the stars, which You have established;
(H)What is man that You remember him,
And the son of man that You care for him?
Yet You have made him a (I)little lower than the [c]angels,
And (J)You crown him with (K)glory and majesty!
You make him to (L)rule over the works of Your hands;
You have (M)put all things under his feet,
All sheep and oxen,
And also the animals of the field,
The birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea,
Whatever passes through the paths of the seas.

(N)O Yahweh, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth!

Psalm 84

Blessed Is the Man Who Trusts in You

For the choir director. According to the [a]Gittith. Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm.

84 How lovely are Your (A)dwelling places,
O Yahweh of hosts!
My (B)soul has longed and even [b]fainted for the courts of Yahweh;
My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the (C)living God.
Even the bird has found a home,
And the swallow a nest for herself, where she sets her young,
At Your (D)altars, O Yahweh of hosts,
(E)My King and my God.
How (F)blessed are those who dwell in Your house!
They are (G)ever praising You. [c]Selah.

How blessed is the man whose (H)strength is in You,
In [d]whose heart are the (I)highways to Zion!
Passing through the valley of [e]Baca they make it a [f]spring;
The (J)early rain also wraps it up with blessings.
They (K)go from strength to strength,
[g]Each one of them (L)appears before God in Zion.

O (M)Yahweh God of hosts, hear my prayer;
Give ear, O (N)God of Jacob! Selah.
See our (O)shield, O God,
And look upon the face of (P)Your anointed.
10 For (Q)better is a day in Your courts than a thousand elsewhere.
I would choose to stand at the threshold of the house of my God
Than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
11 For Yahweh God is (R)a sun and (S)shield;
Yahweh gives grace and (T)glory;
(U)No good thing does He withhold [h]from those who walk blamelessly.
12 O Yahweh of hosts,
How (V)blessed is the man who trusts in You!

1 Kings 19:8-21

So he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food (A)forty days and forty nights to (B)Horeb, the mountain of God.

Elijah at Horeb

Then he came there to a cave and lodged there; and behold, (C)the word of Yahweh came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 10 And he said, “(D)I have been very zealous for Yahweh, the God of hosts; for the sons of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, (E)pulled down Your altars and killed Your prophets with the sword. And (F)I alone am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.”

11 So He said, “(G)Go forth and stand on the mountain before Yahweh.” And behold, Yahweh was passing by! And (H)a great and strong wind was tearing up the mountains and breaking in pieces the rocks before Yahweh; but Yahweh was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but Yahweh was not in the earthquake. 12 Then after the earthquake a fire, but Yahweh was not in the fire; and after the fire (I)a sound of a thin [a]gentle whisper. 13 Now it happened that when Elijah heard it, (J)he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. And behold, (K)a voice came to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 14 Then he said, “(L)I have been very zealous for Yahweh, the God of hosts; for the sons of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, pulled down Your altars and killed Your prophets with the sword. And I alone am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.”

15 And Yahweh said to him, “Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus, and you will arrive and (M)anoint Hazael king over Aram; 16 and (N)Jehu the son of Nimshi you shall anoint king over Israel; and (O)Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah you shall anoint as prophet in your place. 17 And it will be that the (P)one who escapes from the sword of Hazael, Jehu (Q)shall put to death, and the one who escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha shall put to death. 18 (R)Yet I will leave 7,000 in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal and every mouth that has not (S)kissed him.”

Elijah Puts the Mantle on Elisha

19 So he went from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, while he was plowing with twelve pairs of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth. And Elijah passed over to him and threw (T)his mantle on him. 20 So he forsook the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, “Please (U)let me kiss my father and my mother, then I will follow you.” And he said to him, “Go back again, for what have I done to you?” 21 So he returned from following him, and took the pair of oxen and sacrificed them and (V)boiled their flesh with the implements of the oxen, and gave it to the people and they ate. Then he arose and followed Elijah and ministered to him.

Acts 5:34-42

34 But a Pharisee named (A)Gamaliel, a (B)teacher of the Law, respected by all the people, stood up in (C)the Sanhedrin and gave orders to put the men outside for a short time. 35 And he said to them, “Men of Israel, take care what you propose to do with these men. 36 For some time ago Theudas rose up, (D)claiming to be somebody, and a group of about four hundred men joined up with him. [a]But he was killed, and all who [b]were following him were dispersed and came to nothing. 37 After this man, Judas the Galilean rose up in the days of (E)the census and drew away people after him. He too perished, and all those who [c]were following him were scattered. 38 So in the present case, I also say to you, stay away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or [d]action (F)is of men, it will be overthrown; 39 but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them; or you may even be found (G)fighting against God.”

40 So they [e]followed his advice. And after calling the apostles in and (H)beating them, they commanded them not to [f]speak in the name of Jesus, and then released them. 41 So they went on their way from the presence of the (I)Sanhedrin, (J)rejoicing that they had been considered worthy to suffer shame (K)for the Name. 42 (L)And every day, in the temple and [g]from house to house, they did not cease teaching and (M)proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the [h]Christ.

John 11:45-47

45 (A)Therefore many of the Jews (B)who came to Mary, and (C)saw what He had done, believed in Him. 46 But some of them went to the (D)Pharisees and told them the things which Jesus had done.

The Leaders Plot to Kill Jesus

47 Therefore (E)the chief priests and the Pharisees (F)gathered the [a](G)Sanhedrin together, and were saying, “What are we doing? For this man is doing many [b](H)signs.
