¹⁸ Then Moses entered the midst of the cloud ^[a]as he went up to the mountain; and Moses was on the mountain ^(A)forty days and forty nights.

²⁸ So he was there with Yahweh ^(A)forty days and forty nights; he did not eat bread or drink water. And ^[a](B)he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, ^(C)the Ten ^[b]Commandments.

⁹ When I went up to the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which Yahweh had cut with you, then I remained on the mountain forty days and nights; ^(A)I neither ate bread nor drank water. ¹⁰ And Yahweh gave me the two tablets of stone ^(B)written by the finger of God; and on them were all the words which Yahweh had spoken with you at the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly. ¹¹ Now it happened ^(C)at the end of forty days and nights, that Yahweh gave me the two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant.

^18 (A)And I fell down before Yahweh, ^(B)as at the first, forty days and nights; ^(C)I neither ate bread nor drank water ^(D)because of all your sin which you had committed in doing what was evil in the sight of Yahweh to provoke Him to anger.

² And after He had ^(A)fasted forty days and forty nights, He ^[a]then became hungry.
