They said, “We see plainly that the Lord has been with you, so we say, let there be an oath between you and us, and let us make a covenant with you

Laban and Jacob Make a Covenant

Then Laban answered and said to Jacob, “The daughters are my daughters, the children are my children, the flocks are my flocks, and all that you see is mine. But what can I do today about these daughters of mine or about their children whom they have borne?

Come now, let us make a covenant, you and I, and let it be a witness between you and me.”

God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

I also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land in which they resided as aliens.

I have also heard the groaning of the Israelites whom the Egyptians have enslaved, and I have remembered my covenant.

Just as the Lord commanded Moses, so Aaron placed it before the covenant, for safekeeping.

Now, therefore, if you obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession out of all the peoples. Indeed, the whole earth is mine,

You shall make no covenant with them and their gods.

The Blood of the Covenant

Then he said to Moses, “Come up to the Lord, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, and worship at a distance.

Then he took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people, and they said, “All that the Lord has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient.”

Moses took the blood and dashed it on the people, and said, “Here is the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.”

The Ark of the Covenant

“They shall make an ark of acacia wood; it shall be two and a half cubits long, a cubit and a half wide, and a cubit and a half high.

You shall put the covenant that I am giving you into the ark.

You shall put the cover on the top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the covenant that I am giving you.

There I will meet with you, and from above the cover, from between the two cherubim that are on the ark of the covenant, I will tell you all that I am commanding you for the Israelites.

You shall hang the curtain under the clasps and bring the ark of the covenant in there, within the curtain, and the curtain shall separate for you the holy place from the most holy place.

You shall put the cover on the ark of the covenant in the most holy place.

In the tent of meeting, outside the curtain that is before the covenant, Aaron and his sons shall tend it from evening to morning before the Lord. It shall be a perpetual ordinance to be observed throughout their generations by the Israelites.

You shall place it in front of the curtain that is above the ark of the covenant, in front of the cover that is over the covenant, where I will meet with you.

With it you shall anoint the tent of meeting and the ark of the covenant

and you shall beat some of it into powder and put part of it before the covenant in the tent of meeting, where I shall meet with you; it shall be most holy for you.

the tent of meeting, and the ark of the covenant, and the cover that is on it, and all the furnishings of the tent,

Therefore the Israelites shall keep the Sabbath, observing the Sabbath throughout their generations, as a perpetual covenant.

The Two Tablets of the Covenant

When God finished speaking with Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two tablets of the covenant, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God.
