  1. From among his brothers he took five men and presented them to Pharaoh.
  2. Pharaoh said to his brothers, “What is your occupation?” And they said to Pharaoh, “Your servants are shepherds, as our ancestors were.”
  3. Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Your father and your brothers have come to you.

  14. Joseph Forgives His Brothers

    Realizing that their father was dead, Joseph’s brothers said, “What if Joseph still bears a grudge against us and pays us back in full for all the wrong that we did to him?”
  15. ‘Say to Joseph: I beg you, forgive the crime of your brothers and the wrong they did in harming you.’ Now therefore please forgive the crime of the servants of the God of your father.” Joseph wept when they spoke to him.
  16. Then his brothers also wept, fell down before him, and said, “We are here as your slaves.”
  17. Then Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die, but God will surely come to you and bring you up out of this land to the land that he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.”
  18. Then Joseph died, and all his brothers, and that whole generation.
  19. “The priest who is exalted above his brothers, on whose head the anointing oil has been poured and who has been consecrated to wear the vestments, shall not dishevel his hair nor tear his vestments.
  20. even after they have sold themselves they shall have the right of redemption; one of their brothers may redeem them,
  21. They may assist their brothers in the tent of meeting in carrying out their duties, but they shall perform no service. Thus you shall do with the Levites in assigning their duties.”
  22. So bring with you also your brothers of the tribe of Levi, your ancestral tribe, in order that they may be joined to you and serve you while you and your sons with you are in front of the tent of the covenant.
  23. Why should the name of our father be taken away from his clan because he had no son? Give to us a possession among our father’s brothers.”
  24. “The daughters of Zelophehad are right in what they are saying; you shall indeed let them possess an inheritance among their father’s brothers and pass the inheritance of their father on to them.
  25. If he has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers.
