Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,

and Josiah the father of Jechoniah and his brothers, at the time of the deportation to Babylon.

Jesus Calls the First Disciples
As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea—for they were fishers.

As he went from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them.

And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the gentiles do the same?

The True Kindred of Jesus
While he was still speaking to the crowds, his mother and his brothers were standing outside, wanting to speak to him.

Someone told him, “Look, your mother and your brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”

But to the one who had told him this, Jesus replied, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?”

And pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers!

Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?

And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my name’s sake will receive a hundredfold and will inherit eternal life.

When the ten heard it, they were angry with the two brothers.

The True Kindred of Jesus
Then his mother and his brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him.

A crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers are outside asking for you.”

And he replied, “Who are my mother and my brothers?”

And looking at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers!

Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for my sake and for the sake of the good news

who will not receive a hundredfold now in this age—houses, brothers and sisters, mothers and children, and fields, with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life.

There were seven brothers; the first married and, when he died, left no children,
