  1. Six Days of Creation and the Sabbath

    In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth,
  2. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all their multitude.
  3. These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created.

    Another Account of the Creation

    In the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens,
  4. For my part, I am going to bring a flood of waters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die.
  5. In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst forth, and the windows of the heavens were opened.
  6. The waters swelled so mightily on the earth that all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered;
  7. the fountains of the deep and the windows of the heavens were closed, the rain from the heavens was restrained,
  8. Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves; otherwise we shall be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.”
  9. He blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, maker of heaven and earth;
  10. But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have sworn to the Lord, God Most High, maker of heaven and earth,
  11. He brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”
  12. Then the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah sulfur and fire from the Lord out of heaven;
  13. And God heard the voice of the boy; and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven, and said to her, “What troubles you, Hagar? Do not be afraid; for God has heard the voice of the boy where he is.
  14. But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”
  15. The angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven,
  16. I will indeed bless you, and I will make your offspring as numerous as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of their enemies,
  17. and I will make you swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and earth, that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I live,
  18. The Lord, the God of heaven, who took me from my father’s house and from the land of my birth, and who spoke to me and swore to me, ‘To your offspring I will give this land,’ he will send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there.
  19. I will make your offspring as numerous as the stars of heaven, and will give to your offspring all these lands; and all the nations of the earth shall gain blessing for themselves through your offspring,
  20. May God give you of the dew of heaven, and of the fatness of the earth, and plenty of grain and wine.
  21. Then his father Isaac answered him: “See, away from the fatness of the earth shall your home be, and away from the dew of heaven on high.
  22. And he dreamed that there was a ladder set up on the earth, the top of it reaching to heaven; and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.
  23. And he was afraid, and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”
  24. by the God of your father, who will help you, by the Almighty who will bless you with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lies beneath, blessings of the breasts and of the womb.
  25. The Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven so that hail may fall on the whole land of Egypt, on humans and animals and all the plants of the field in the land of Egypt.”
