  43. Obedience Commanded

    Now, Israel, hear the decrees and laws I am about to teach you. Follow them so that you may live and may go in and take possession of the land the Lord, the God of your ancestors, is giving you.
  44. You saw with your own eyes what the Lord did at Baal Peor. The Lord your God destroyed from among you everyone who followed the Baal of Peor,
  45. See, I have taught you decrees and laws as the Lord my God commanded me, so that you may follow them in the land you are entering to take possession of it.
  46. He declared to you his covenant, the Ten Commandments, which he commanded you to follow and then wrote them on two stone tablets.
  47. And the Lord directed me at that time to teach you the decrees and laws you are to follow in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess.
  48. The Ten Commandments

    Moses summoned all Israel and said: Hear, Israel, the decrees and laws I declare in your hearing today. Learn them and be sure to follow them.
  49. But you stay here with me so that I may give you all the commands, decrees and laws you are to teach them to follow in the land I am giving them to possess.”
  50. Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you;
  51. for they will turn your children away from following me to serve other gods, and the Lord’s anger will burn against you and will quickly destroy you.
  52. Therefore, take care to follow the commands, decrees and laws I give you today.
  53. If you pay attention to these laws and are careful to follow them, then the Lord your God will keep his covenant of love with you, as he swore to your ancestors.
  54. Do Not Forget the Lord

    Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land the Lord promised on oath to your ancestors.
  55. If you ever forget the Lord your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed.
  56. If you carefully observe all these commands I am giving you to follow—to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him and to hold fast to him—
  57. the curse if you disobey the commands of the Lord your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known.
  58. The One Place of Worship

    These are the decrees and laws you must be careful to follow in the land that the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has given you to possess—as long as you live in the land.
  59. and if the sign or wonder spoken of takes place, and the prophet says, “Let us follow other gods” (gods you have not known) “and let us worship them,”
  60. It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.
  61. That prophet or dreamer must be put to death for inciting rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery. That prophet or dreamer tried to turn you from the way the Lord your God commanded you to follow. You must purge the evil from among you.
  62. if only you fully obey the Lord your God and are careful to follow all these commands I am giving you today.
  63. Remember that you were slaves in Egypt, and follow carefully these decrees.
  64. Follow justice and justice alone, so that you may live and possess the land the Lord your God is giving you.
  65. It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees

  69. Follow the Lord’s Commands

    The Lord your God commands you this day to follow these decrees and laws; carefully observe them with all your heart and with all your soul.
  70. Obey the Lord your God and follow his commands and decrees that I give you today.”
  71. Blessings for Obedience

    If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth.
  72. The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom.
  73. Do not turn aside from any of the commands I give you today, to the right or to the left, following other gods and serving them.
  74. Curses for Disobedience

    However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you:
  75. If you do not carefully follow all the words of this law, which are written in this book, and do not revere this glorious and awesome name—the Lord your God—
  76. Carefully follow the terms of this covenant, so that you may prosper in everything you do.
  77. Your children who follow you in later generations and foreigners who come from distant lands will see the calamities that have fallen on the land and the diseases with which the Lord has afflicted it.
  78. The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.
  79. You will again obey the Lord and follow all his commands I am giving you today.
  80. Assemble the people—men, women and children, and the foreigners residing in your towns—so they can listen and learn to fear the Lord your God and follow carefully all the words of this law.

  159. He held fast to the Lord and did not stop following him; he kept the commands the Lord had given Moses.

Then all the people pledged themselves to the covenant.

  187. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, following the detestable practices of the nations the Lord had driven out before the Israelites.
  188. He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and followed the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or to the left.
  189. The king stood by his pillar and renewed the covenant in the presence of the Lord—to follow the Lord and keep his commands, statutes and decrees with all his heart and all his soul, and to obey the words of the covenant written in this book.

  235. “I myself said, “‘How gladly would I treat you like my children and give you a pleasant land, the most beautiful inheritance of any nation.’ I thought you would call me ‘Father’ and not turn away from following me.
  236. Disaster follows disaster; the whole land lies in ruins. In an instant my tents are destroyed, my shelter in a moment.
  237. if you do not oppress the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow and do not shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not follow other gods to your own harm,
  238. “‘Will you steal and murder, commit adultery and perjury, burn incense to Baal and follow other gods you have not known,

  241. The Lord said, “It is because they have forsaken my law, which I set before them; they have not obeyed me or followed my law.
  242. Instead, they have followed the stubbornness of their hearts; they have followed the Baals, as their ancestors taught them.”
  243. The Lord said to me, “Proclaim all these words in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem: ‘Listen to the terms of this covenant and follow them.
  244. But they did not listen or pay attention; instead, they followed the stubbornness of their evil hearts. So I brought on them all the curses of the covenant I had commanded them to follow but that they did not keep.’”
  245. They have returned to the sins of their ancestors, who refused to listen to my words. They have followed other gods to serve them. Both Israel and Judah have broken the covenant I made with their ancestors.
  246. These wicked people, who refuse to listen to my words, who follow the stubbornness of their hearts and go after other gods to serve and worship them, will be like this belt—completely useless!
  247. then say to them, ‘It is because your ancestors forsook me,’ declares the Lord, ‘and followed other gods and served and worshiped them. They forsook me and did not keep my law.
  248. But you have behaved more wickedly than your ancestors. See how all of you are following the stubbornness of your evil hearts instead of obeying me.
  249. But they will reply, ‘It’s no use. We will continue with our own plans; we will all follow the stubbornness of our evil hearts.’”
  250. The land is full of adulterers; because of the curse the land lies parched and the pastures in the wilderness are withered. The prophets follow an evil course and use their power unjustly.
