What can I say? The Lord told me what would happen and then made it happen. I have had these troubles in my soul, so now I will be humble all my life.

And this is the reason: God lives forever and is holy. He is high and lifted up. He says, “I live in a high and holy place, but I also live with people who are sad and humble. I give new life to those who are humble and to those whose hearts are broken.

They say, ‘To honor you we had special days when we fasted, but you didn’t see. We humbled ourselves to honor you, but you didn’t notice.’” But the Lord says, “You do what pleases yourselves on these special days, and you are unfair to your workers.

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, give praise and honor and glory to the King of heaven. Everything he does is right and fair, and he is able to make proud people humble.

Then the man said to me, “Daniel, do not be afraid. Some time ago you decided to get understanding and to humble yourself before your God. Since that time God has listened to you, and I have come because of your prayers.

Come to the Lord, all you who are not proud, who obey his laws. Do what is right. Learn to be humble. Maybe you will escape on the day the Lord shows his anger.

But I will leave in the city the humble and those who are not proud, and they will trust in the Lord.

They are blessed who are humble, for the whole earth will be theirs.

Accept my teachings and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit, and you will find rest for your lives.

When you do things, do not let selfishness or pride be your guide. Instead, be humble and give more honor to others than to yourselves.

And when he was living as a man, he humbled himself and was fully obedient to God, even when that caused his death—death on a cross.

By his power to rule all things, he will change our humble bodies and make them like his own glorious body.

But God gives us even more grace, as the Scripture says, “God is against the proud, but he gives grace to the humble.” Proverbs 3:34

Humble yourself in the Lord’s presence, and he will honor you.

Suffering for Doing Right

Finally, all of you should be in agreement, understanding each other, loving each other as family, being kind and humble.

In the same way, younger people should be willing to be under older people. And all of you should be very humble with each other. “God is against the proud, but he gives grace to the humble.” Proverbs 3:34

Be humble under God’s powerful hand so he will lift you up when the right time comes.
