  1. Therefore sin is not to reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts,
  2. and do not go on presenting the parts of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those who are alive from the dead, and your body’s parts as instruments of righteousness for God.
  3. For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under the Law but under grace.
  4. What then? Are we to sin because we are not under the Law but under grace? Far from it!
  5. Do you not know that the one to whom you present yourselves as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of that same one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?

  9. But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life.
  10. For the wages of sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
  11. For while we were in the flesh, the sinful passions, which were brought to light by the Law, were at work in the parts of our body to bear fruit for death.
  12. What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? Far from it! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said, “You shall not covet.”
  13. But sin, taking an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me coveting of every kind; for apart from the Law sin is dead.
  14. I was once alive apart from the Law; but when the commandment came, sin came to life, and I died;
  15. for sin, taking an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me, and through it, killed me.
  16. Therefore did that which is good become a cause of death for me? Far from it! Rather it was sin, in order that it might be shown to be sin by bringing about my death through that which is good, so that through the commandment sin would become utterly sinful.
  17. The Conflict of Serving Two Masters

    For we know that the Law is spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold into bondage to sin.
  18. But now, no longer am I the one doing it, but sin that dwells in me.
  19. But if I do the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin that dwells in me.
  20. but I see a different law in the parts of my body waging war against the law of my mind, and making me a prisoner of the law of sin, the law which is in my body’s parts.
  21. Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin.
  22. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.
  23. For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,
  24. If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness.
  25. But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, since otherwise grace is no longer grace.
