  1. The bread is to be set out before the Lord every Sabbath day as a perpetual covenant obligation on the part of the Israelites.
  2. Sabbath Years and Jubilee

    The Lord spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai:
  3. “Speak to the Israelites and tell them: When you enter the land I am giving you, the land will observe a Sabbath to the Lord.
  4. But there will be a Sabbath of complete rest for the land in the seventh year, a Sabbath to the Lord: you are not to sow your field or prune your vineyard.
  5. Whatever the land produces during the Sabbath year can be food for you—for yourself, your male or female slave, and the hired hand or foreigner who stays with you.
  6. You must keep My Sabbaths and revere My sanctuary; I am Yahweh.
  7. “Then the land will make up for its Sabbath years during the time it lies desolate, while you are in the land of your enemies. At that time the land will rest and make up for its Sabbaths.
  8. As long as it lies desolate, it will have the rest it did not have during your Sabbaths when you lived there.
  9. For the land abandoned by them will make up for its Sabbaths by lying desolate without the people, while they pay the penalty for their sin, because they rejected My ordinances and abhorred My statutes.
  10. Sabbath Violation

    While the Israelites were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering wood on the Sabbath day.
  11. Sabbath Offerings

    “On the Sabbath day present two unblemished year-old male lambs, four quarts of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering, and its drink offering.
  12. It is the burnt offering for every Sabbath, in addition to the regular burnt offering and its drink offering.
  13. Be careful to remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy as the Lord your God has commanded you.
  14. but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. You must not do any work—you, your son or daughter, your male or female slave, your ox or donkey, any of your livestock, or the foreigner who lives within your gates, so that your male and female slaves may rest as you do.
  15. Remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out of there with a strong hand and an outstretched arm. That is why the Lord your God has commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.
  16. But he said, “Why go to him today? It’s not a New Moon or a Sabbath.” She replied, “Everything is all right.”
  17. and commanded them, “This is what you are to do: a third of you who come on duty on the Sabbath are to provide protection for the king’s palace.
  18. “Your two divisions that go off duty on the Sabbath are to provide protection for the Lord’s temple.
  19. So the commanders of hundreds did everything Jehoiada the priest commanded. They each brought their men—those coming on duty on the Sabbath and those going off duty—and went to Jehoiada the priest.
  20. To satisfy the king of Assyria, he removed from the Lord’s temple the Sabbath canopy they had built in the palace, and he closed the outer entrance for the king.
  21. Some of the Kohathites’ relatives were responsible for preparing the rows of the bread of the Presence every Sabbath.
  22. Whenever burnt offerings are offered to the Lord on the Sabbaths, New Moons, and appointed festivals, they are to do so regularly in the Lord’s presence according to the number prescribed for them.
  23. Now I am building a temple for the name of Yahweh my God in order to dedicate it to Him for burning fragrant incense before Him, for displaying the rows of the bread of the Presence continuously, and for sacrificing burnt offerings for the morning and the evening, the Sabbaths and the New Moons, and the appointed festivals of the Lord our God. This is ordained for Israel forever.
  24. He followed the daily requirement for offerings according to the commandment of Moses for Sabbaths, New Moons, and the three annual appointed festivals: the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the Festival of Weeks, and the Festival of Booths.
  25. This is what you are to do: a third of you, priests and Levites who are coming on duty on the Sabbath, are to be gatekeepers.
