  1. And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people that they had acquired in Haran, and they set out to go to the land of Canaan. When they came to the land of Canaan,

    So Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the Negeb.

  10. Then he brought back all the possessions, and also brought back his kinsman Lot with his possessions, and the women and the people.
  11. And he brought him all these, cut them in half, and laid each half over against the other. But he did not cut the birds in half.
  12. He shall be a wild donkey of a man, his hand against everyone and everyone's hand against him, and he shall dwell over against all his kinsmen.”
  13. And I will give to you and to your offspring after you the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and I will be their God.”
  14. Then Abraham took Ishmael his son and all those born in his house or bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's house, and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskins that very day, as God had said to him.
  15. And all the men of his house, those born in the house and those bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.
  16. seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?
  17. Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?”
  18. But before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both young and old, all the people to the last man, surrounded the house.
  19. And he overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.
  20. And he looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah and toward all the land of the valley, and he looked and, behold, the smoke of the land went up like the smoke of a furnace.
  21. And the firstborn said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is not a man on earth to come in to us after the manner of all the earth.
  22. Now then, return the man's wife, for he is a prophet, so that he will pray for you, and you shall live. But if you do not return her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours.”
  23. So Abimelech rose early in the morning and called all his servants and told them all these things. And the men were very much afraid.
  24. Abraham said, “I did it because I thought, ‘There is no fear of God at all in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.’
  25. To Sarah he said, “Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver. It is a sign of your innocence in the eyes of all who are with you, and before everyone you are vindicated.”
