    Because the Lord revealed their plot to me, I knew it, for at that time he showed me what they were doing.
  12. Then the word of the Lord came to me a second time:
  13. You who are the hope of Israel, its Savior in times of distress, why are you like a stranger in the land, like a traveler who stays only a night?
  14. Have you rejected Judah completely? Do you despise Zion? Why have you afflicted us so that we cannot be healed? We hoped for peace but no good has come, for a time of healing but there is only terror.
  15. The Lord said, “Surely I will deliver you for a good purpose; surely I will make your enemies plead with you in times of disaster and times of distress.
  16. Lord, my strength and my fortress, my refuge in time of distress, to you the nations will come from the ends of the earth and say, “Our ancestors possessed nothing but false gods, worthless idols that did them no good.
  17. “Therefore I will teach them— this time I will teach them my power and might. Then they will know that my name is the Lord.
  18. If at any time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be uprooted, torn down and destroyed,
  19. And if at another time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be built up and planted,
  20. But you, Lord, know all their plots to kill me. Do not forgive their crimes or blot out their sins from your sight. Let them be overthrown before you; deal with them in the time of your anger.
  21. “Inquire now of the Lord for us because Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon is attacking us. Perhaps the Lord will perform wonders for us as in times past so that he will withdraw from us.”
  22. At that time those slain by the Lord will be everywhere—from one end of the earth to the other. They will not be mourned or gathered up or buried, but will be like dung lying on the ground.
  23. Weep and wail, you shepherds; roll in the dust, you leaders of the flock. For your time to be slaughtered has come; you will fall like the best of the rams.
  24. All nations will serve him and his son and his grandson until the time for his land comes; then many nations and great kings will subjugate him.
  25. From early times the prophets who preceded you and me have prophesied war, disaster and plague against many countries and great kingdoms.
