    The Church Persecuted and Scattered

    On that day a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria.

    Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest

  14. But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the other Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers.
  15. The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten with rods.
  16. If, then, Demetrius and his fellow craftsmen have a grievance against anybody, the courts are open and there are proconsuls. They can press charges.
