  16. Warning Against the Teachers of the Law

    As he taught, Jesus said, “Watch out for the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted with respect in the marketplaces,
  17. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.
  18. “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death.
  19. The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death, but they did not find any.
  20. Many testified falsely against him, but their statements did not agree.
  21. Then some stood up and gave this false testimony against him:
  22. Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?”
  23. The written notice of the charge against him read: the king of the jews.
  24. So Joseph bought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in the linen, and placed it in a tomb cut out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.
