  1. Another reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything.
  2. But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.
  3. You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone.
  4. will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious?
  5. Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts.
  6. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
  7. Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.
  8. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing.
  9. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;
  10. Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses;
  11. sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.
  12. Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.
  13. For when we came into Macedonia, we had no rest, but we were harassed at every turn—conflicts on the outside, fears within.
  14. and not only by his coming but also by the comfort you had given him. He told us about your longing for me, your deep sorrow, your ardent concern for me, so that my joy was greater than ever.
  15. Even if I caused you sorrow by my letter, I do not regret it. Though I did regret it—I see that my letter hurt you, but only for a little while—
  16. See what this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what concern, what readiness to see justice done. At every point you have proved yourselves to be innocent in this matter.
  17. So even though I wrote to you, it was neither on account of the one who did the wrong nor on account of the injured party, but rather that before God you could see for yourselves how devoted to us you are.
  18. I had boasted to him about you, and you have not embarrassed me. But just as everything we said to you was true, so our boasting about you to Titus has proved to be true as well.
  19. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own,
  20. But since you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you—see that you also excel in this grace of giving.
  21. In addition, we are sending with them our brother who has often proved to us in many ways that he is zealous, and now even more so because of his great confidence in you.
  22. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
  23. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
  24. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.
  25. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
