Jesus e João Batista
(Lc 7.18-23)
11 Dadas estas instruções aos doze discípulos, Jesus saiu a ensinar nas suas cidades.
2 João, que estava na prisão, ao ouvir falar daquilo que Cristo andava a realizar, mandou os seus discípulos perguntar-lhe: 3 “És tu aquele que havia de vir ou devemos aguardar outro?”
4 Jesus disse-lhes: “Voltem para João e contem-lhe o que estão a ouvir e a ver: 5 ‘cegos veem e coxos andam, leprosos são curados, surdos voltam a ouvir, mortos regressam à vida e os pobres ouvem o evangelho. 6 Feliz é aquele que não se escandaliza em mim.’ ”
Jesus fala de João Batista
(Lc 7.24-35; 16.16)
7 Depois dos discípulos de João terem partido, Jesus começou a falar à multidão acerca João: “O que foram ver no deserto? Um caniço ao sabor do vento? 8 Mas então o que foram lá ver? Um homem vestido de roupas caras? Reparem: quem se veste de roupa cara é nos palácios reais que se encontra. 9 Terá sido antes um profeta que foram encontrar? Sim, digo eu! E mais do que um profeta. 10 É a João que as Escrituras se referem ao dizerem:
‘Envio o meu mensageiro diante de ti,
para preparar o caminho à tua frente.’[a]
11 É realmente como vos digo: de homens nascidos de um ventre materno, nenhum é maior do que João Batista. E, contudo, até o menor no reino dos céus é maior do que ele! 12 Desde o tempo de João Batista até aos dias de hoje, o reino dos céus está debaixo de força e os fortes apoderam-se dele. 13 Todos os profetas e a própria Lei profetizaram até que João apareceu. 14 E se estão dispostos a compreender, dir-vos-ei que ele é o Elias, aquele cuja vinda foi anunciada. 15 Quem tem ouvidos, ouça!
16 Que posso dizer acerca das pessoas desta geração? Esta gente é como as crianças que se queixam aos seus amigos:
17 ‘Brincámos aos casamentos
e ninguém se quis alegrar;
então brincámos aos funerais,
e também ninguém quis ficar triste.’
18 Veio João, e lá porque não bebe vinho e jejua vocês dizem: ‘Tem demónio!’ 19 Vim eu, o Filho do Homem, e porque aceito ir a uma festa e beber o vinho que me é oferecido, logo se queixam de que sou comilão e beberrão e de que sou amigo de cobradores de impostos e pecadores! Mas a sabedoria foi justificada pelas suas obras.”
Aviso às cidades impenitentes
(Lc 10.13-15)
20 Então, começou a censurar as cidades onde tinha realizado a maior parte dos seus milagres por, apesar disso, não se terem voltado para Deus. 21 “Ai de ti, Corazim, e ai de ti, Betsaida! Porque, se os milagres que vos fiz tivessem sido realizados nas cidades de Tiro e Sídon, o seu povo ter-se-ia sentado, há muito, em profundo arrependimento, vestindo pano de saco e deitando cinzas sobre a cabeça em sinal de remorso. 22 Contudo, eu vos digo: Tiro e Sídon estarão em melhor situação do que vocês no dia do juízo! 23 E tu, povo de Cafarnaum, serás tu levantado até ao céu? Serás antes mergulhado no inferno! Porque, se os milagres espantosos que operei em ti tivessem tido lugar em Sodoma, ainda hoje ela aqui estaria. 24 Contudo, eu vos digo: Sodoma estará em melhor situação do que tu no dia do juízo!”
Descanso para os cansados
(Lc 10.21-22)
25 E Jesus orou assim: “Pai, Senhor do céu e da Terra, graças te dou por teres escondido estas coisas aos instruídos e aos sábios e as revelares às criancinhas. 26 Sim, obrigado, Pai, pois foi assim que quiseste!
27 O meu Pai deu-me autoridade sobre todas as coisas; e ninguém conhece verdadeiramente o Filho a não ser o Pai; e ninguém conhece verdadeiramente o Pai a não ser o Filho e aqueles a quem o Filho tiver por bem revelá-lo.
28 Venham a mim todos os que estão cansados e oprimidos e eu vos aliviarei. 29 Levem o meu jugo e aprendam de mim, porque sou brando e humilde, e acharão descanso para as vossas almas; 30 pois só vos imponho cargas suaves e leves.”
O Senhor do sábado
(Mc 2.23-28; Lc 6.1-5)
12 Sucedeu por aquela altura que Jesus atravessava umas searas com os seus discípulos. Era sábado[b] e, como os discípulos sentiam fome, começaram a arrancar espigas de trigo e a comer o grão. 2 Mas os fariseus, ao vê-los fazer isso, protestaram: “Os teus discípulos estão a fazer o que não é permitido no dia de sábado!”
3 Jesus disse-lhes: “Nunca leram o que o rei David fez quando ele e os companheiros estavam com fome, 4 como entraram na casa de Deus, ele e os seus companheiros, e comeram os pães da Presença, que apenas aos sacerdotes era permitido comer?[c] 5 E nunca leram na Lei que os sacerdotes de serviço no templo podem trabalhar ao sábado, ficando isentos de culpa? 6 Pois aqui está um que é maior do que o templo!
7 Se soubessem o que quer dizer esta passagem das Escrituras: ‘Mais do que os vossos sacrifícios, quero a vossa misericórdia’,[d] não teriam condenado quem não tem culpa. 8 Porque eu, o Filho do Homem, sou o Senhor do próprio sábado.”
Jesus cura um homem com mão paralisada
(Mc 3.1-6; Lc 6.6-11)
9 Depois foi para a sinagoga. 10 E viu ali um homem com uma das mãos aleijadas. Os fariseus perguntaram-lhe: “A Lei permite fazer curas no dia de sábado?” Fizeram-no para terem de que o acusar.
11 A sua resposta foi: “Qual de vocês, se tivesse apenas uma ovelha e ela caísse numa vala num sábado não iria tratar de tirá-la de lá? 12 Quanto mais não vale uma pessoa do que uma ovelha! Evidentemente que é justo fazer o bem num sábado.” 13 E disse ao homem: “Estende o braço!” Ele assim fez e imediatamente a sua mão ficou completamente normal, tal como a outra.
O Servo escolhido por Deus
(Mc 3.7-12; Lc 6.17-19)
14 Os fariseus saíram, a fim de combinarem como haveriam de o matar. 15 Jesus, sabendo o que tramavam, partiu dali, seguido por grandes multidões. Curou todos os doentes 16 e advertiu-os que não revelassem quem ele era. 17 Assim se cumpriu a profecia de Isaías a seu respeito:
18 “Aqui está o meu Servo, a quem escolhi.
Ele é o meu amado, em quem a minha alma tem prazer.
Porei o meu Espírito sobre ele e proclamará a minha justiça às nações.
19 Não discutirá nem gritará; nem se porá a discutir alto nas praças públicas.
20 Não esmagará a cana trilhada, nem apagará o pavio que ainda fumega,
até fazer triunfar a justiça.
21 No seu nome as nações têm a sua esperança.”[e]
Jesus e Satanás
(Mc 3.22-29; Lc 11.14-23; 12.10)
22 Então um cego e mudo, cativo de demónios, foi trazido a Jesus que o curou, de modo que o homem já falava e via. 23 A multidão, cheia de espanto, exclamava: “Não será este o Filho de David, o Cristo?” 24 Mas, quando os fariseus souberam do milagre, puseram-se a dizer: “Expulsa os demónios pelo poder de Belzebu[f], líder dos demónios.”
25 Jesus, conhecendo os seus pensamentos, respondeu: “Todo o reino dividido fica deserto. E toda a cidade ou casa dividida contra si mesma não subsistirá. 26 Ora, se Satanás expulsa Satanás, está dividido contra si próprio. Então, como subsistirá o seu reino? 27 E se expulso os demónios pelo poder de Belzebu, a que poder recorrem os vossos, quando fazem o mesmo? Por esta razão, eles serão os vossos juízes! 28 Mas, se expulso os demónios pelo Espírito de Deus, então é porque o reino de Deus já está no vosso meio. 29 Como pode alguém entrar na casa do homem forte e levar os seus bens, sem antes amarrá-lo? Só então poderá roubar-lhe a casa.
30 Quem não é por mim é contra mim; quem não ajunta comigo, espalha. 31 Portanto, digo-vos: todo o pecado ou blasfémia pode ser perdoado, exceto a blasfémia contra o Espírito Santo, a qual nunca será perdoada. 32 Até o dizer mal do Filho do Homem pode ser perdoado, mas há um pecado: falar contra o Espírito Santo, que jamais terá perdão, seja neste mundo seja no futuro.
33 Uma árvore de boa qualidade dá fruto de boa qualidade e uma árvore de má qualidade dá fruto de má qualidade. Com efeito, uma árvore conhece-se pela qualidade do fruto que dá. 34 Raça de serpentes! Como podem vocês, que são maus, dizer coisas boas? O que está em abundância no coração vem à superfície no falar. 35 Um homem bom produz coisas boas do seu bom tesouro interior; e um homem mau produz, do tesouro da sua maldade, coisas más. 36 E garanto-vos: no dia do juízo hão de dar conta de cada palavra leviana que tiverem dito. 37 Pelas tuas palavras serás justificado e também por elas serás condenado.”
O sinal de Jonas
(Lc 11.29-32)
38 Então, alguns especialistas na Lei e fariseus foram pedir a Jesus: “Mestre, queremos ver um sinal.”
39 Jesus respondeu-lhes: “Pede esta geração má e adúltera um sinal, mas não receberá nenhum, a não ser o do profeta Jonas! 40 Pois assim como Jonas passou três dias e três noites dentro daquele grande peixe, assim também o Filho do Homem estará nas entranhas da Terra três dias e três noites. 41 Também os homens de Nínive se levantarão para condenar esta geração, porque se arrependeram ao ouvir a pregação de Jonas. E agora está aqui alguém que é superior a Jonas. 42 No dia do juízo, a rainha, de Sabá há de levantar-se e condenar esta geração, porque fez uma viagem longa e difícil para escutar a sabedoria de Salomão. Mas aqui está quem é superior a Salomão.
Regresso do espírito impuro
(Lc 11.24-26)
43 Quando um espírito impuro é expulso de um homem vai para lugares áridos, procurando onde ficar; não encontrando lugar, diz: 44 ‘Vou voltar para a morada que deixei.’ E descobre que a sua antiga morada está desocupada, varrida e arranjada. 45 Então, o demónio vai buscar outros sete espíritos, ainda piores do que ele, e todos entram na tal pessoa para morar nela. E, deste modo, fica pior do que antes. Assim acontecerá a esta geração perversa.”
A mãe e os irmãos de Jesus
(Mc 3.31-35; Lc 8.19-21)
46 Jesus estava a ensinar às multidões quando apareceram a sua mãe e irmãos à entrada da casa onde ele estava, procurando falar com ele. 47 Alguém lhe disse: “A tua mãe e irmãos estão lá fora e querem falar contigo.” 48 Jesus respondeu: “Quem é a minha mãe, e quem são os meus irmãos?” 49 E, apontando para os seus discípulos, acrescentou: “Estes é que são a minha mãe e os meus irmãos! 50 Todo aquele que faz a vontade do meu Pai que está nos céus, é meu irmão, minha irmã e minha mãe.”

Jesus and John the Baptist(A)
11 After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples,(B) he went on from there to teach and preach in the towns of Galilee.[a]
2 When John,(C) who was in prison,(D) heard about the deeds of the Messiah, he sent his disciples 3 to ask him, “Are you the one who is to come,(E) or should we expect someone else?”
4 Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: 5 The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy[b] are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.(F) 6 Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.”(G)
7 As John’s(H) disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness(I) to see? A reed swayed by the wind? 8 If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings’ palaces. 9 Then what did you go out to see? A prophet?(J) Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 10 This is the one about whom it is written:
11 Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12 From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence,[d] and violent people have been raiding it. 13 For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John.(M) 14 And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come.(N) 15 Whoever has ears, let them hear.(O)
16 “To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:
17 “‘We played the pipe for you,
and you did not dance;
we sang a dirge,
and you did not mourn.’
18 For John came neither eating(P) nor drinking,(Q) and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’(R) But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.”
Woe on Unrepentant Towns(S)
20 Then Jesus began to denounce the towns in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. 21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida!(T) For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon,(U) they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.(V) 22 But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.(W) 23 And you, Capernaum,(X) will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades.[e](Y) For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. 24 But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”(Z)
The Father Revealed in the Son(AA)
25 At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father,(AB) Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.(AC) 26 Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
27 “All things have been committed to me(AD) by my Father.(AE) No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.(AF)
28 “Come to me,(AG) all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.(AH) 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,(AI) for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.(AJ) 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”(AK)
Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath(AL)(AM)
12 At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick some heads of grain(AN) and eat them. 2 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, “Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.”(AO)
3 He answered, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry?(AP) 4 He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread—which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests.(AQ) 5 Or haven’t you read in the Law that the priests on Sabbath duty in the temple desecrate the Sabbath(AR) and yet are innocent? 6 I tell you that something greater than the temple is here.(AS) 7 If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’[f](AT) you would not have condemned the innocent. 8 For the Son of Man(AU) is Lord of the Sabbath.”
9 Going on from that place, he went into their synagogue, 10 and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Looking for a reason to bring charges against Jesus,(AV) they asked him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”(AW)
11 He said to them, “If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out?(AX) 12 How much more valuable is a person than a sheep!(AY) Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”
13 Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out and it was completely restored, just as sound as the other. 14 But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus.(AZ)
God’s Chosen Servant
15 Aware of this, Jesus withdrew from that place. A large crowd followed him, and he healed all who were ill.(BA) 16 He warned them not to tell others about him.(BB) 17 This was to fulfill(BC) what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:
18 “Here is my servant whom I have chosen,
the one I love, in whom I delight;(BD)
I will put my Spirit on him,(BE)
and he will proclaim justice to the nations.
19 He will not quarrel or cry out;
no one will hear his voice in the streets.
20 A bruised reed he will not break,
and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out,
till he has brought justice through to victory.
21 In his name the nations will put their hope.”[g](BF)
Jesus and Beelzebul(BG)
22 Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see.(BH) 23 All the people were astonished and said, “Could this be the Son of David?”(BI)
24 But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul,(BJ) the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons.”(BK)
25 Jesus knew their thoughts(BL) and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. 26 If Satan(BM) drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? 27 And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul,(BN) by whom do your people(BO) drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. 28 But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God(BP) has come upon you.
29 “Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man’s house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can plunder his house.
30 “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.(BQ) 31 And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.(BR) 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age(BS) or in the age to come.(BT)
33 “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.(BU) 34 You brood of vipers,(BV) how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks(BW) what the heart is full of. 35 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”(BX)
The Sign of Jonah(BY)(BZ)
38 Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, “Teacher, we want to see a sign(CA) from you.”(CB)
39 He answered, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.(CC) 40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish,(CD) so the Son of Man(CE) will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.(CF) 41 The men of Nineveh(CG) will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah,(CH) and now something greater than Jonah is here. 42 The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came(CI) from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, and now something greater than Solomon is here.
43 “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. 45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.(CJ) That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers(CK)
46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother(CL) and brothers(CM) stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”
48 He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. 50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven(CN) is my brother and sister and mother.”
