God’s People Cleansed

13 “On that day a fountain(A) will be opened for the house of David and for the residents of Jerusalem, to wash away sin and impurity.(B) On that day”—this is the declaration of the Lord of Armies—“I will remove the names of the idols from the land, and they will no longer be remembered.(C) I will banish the prophets[a] and the unclean spirit from the land. If a man still prophesies, his father and his mother who bore him will say to him, ‘You cannot remain alive because you have spoken a lie in the name of the Lord.’ When he prophesies, his father and his mother who bore him will pierce him through.(D) On that day every prophet will be ashamed of his vision when he prophesies; they will not put on a hairy cloak(E) in order to deceive. He will say, ‘I am not a prophet; I work the land, for a man purchased[b] me as a servant since my youth.’(F) If someone asks him, ‘What are these wounds(G) on your chest?’[c]—then he will answer, ‘I received the wounds in the house of my friends.’

Sword, awake against my shepherd,
against the man who is my associate—
this is the declaration of the Lord of Armies.
Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered;(H)
I will turn my hand against the little ones.
In the whole land—
this is the Lord’s declaration—
two-thirds[d] will be cut off and die,
but a third will be left in it.
I will put this third through the fire;
I will refine them as silver is refined
and test them as gold is tested.(I)
They will call on my name,
and I will answer them.(J)
I will say, ‘They are my people,’
and they will say, ‘The Lord is our God.’”(K)

The Lord’s Triumph and Reign

14 Look, a day belonging to the Lord is coming(L) when the plunder taken from you will be divided in your presence. I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem for battle.(M) The city will be captured, the houses looted, and the women raped. Half the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be removed from the city.

Then the Lord will go out to fight against those nations as he fights on a day of battle.(N) On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives,(O) which faces Jerusalem on the east. The Mount of Olives will be split in half from east to west, forming a huge valley, so that half the mountain will move to the north and half to the south. You will flee by my mountain valley,[e] for the valley of the mountains will extend to Azal. You will flee as you fled[f] from the earthquake in the days of King Uzziah of Judah.(P) Then the Lord my God will come and all the holy ones(Q) with him.[g](R)

On that day there will be no light; the sunlight and moonlight will diminish.[h][i](S) It will be a unique day known only to the Lord,(T) without day or night, but there will be light at evening.

On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem,(U) half of it toward the eastern sea[j] and the other half toward the western sea,[k] in summer and winter alike. On that day the Lord will become King over the whole earth(V)—the Lord alone, and his name alone.(W) 10 All the land from Geba(X) to Rimmon(Y) south of Jerusalem will be changed into a plain. But Jerusalem will be raised up and will remain[l] on its site from the Benjamin Gate(Z) to the place of the First Gate,[m] to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the royal winepresses.(AA) 11 People will live there, and never again will there be a curse of complete destruction. So Jerusalem will dwell in security.

12 This will be the plague with which the Lord strikes all the people who have warred against Jerusalem: their flesh will rot while they stand on their feet, their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths. 13 On that day a great panic from the Lord will be among them, so that each will seize the hand of another, and the hand of one will rise against the other. 14 Judah will also fight at Jerusalem, and the wealth of all the surrounding nations will be collected: gold, silver, and clothing in great abundance.(AB) 15 The same plague as the previous one will strike[n] the horses, mules, camels, donkeys, and all the animals that are in those camps.

16 Then all the survivors from the nations that came against Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the King, the Lord of Armies, and to celebrate the Festival of Shelters.(AC) 17 Should any of the families of the earth not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of Armies, rain will not fall on them. 18 And if the people[o] of Egypt will not go up and enter, then rain will not fall on them; this will be the plague the Lord inflicts on the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Shelters. 19 This will be the punishment of Egypt and all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Shelters.

20 On that day, the words Holy to the Lord will be on the bells of the horses.(AD) The pots in the house of the Lord will be like the sprinkling basins before the altar. 21 Every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah will be holy to the Lord of Armies. All who sacrifice will come and use the pots to cook in. And on that day there will no longer be a Canaanite[p] in the house of the Lord of Armies.

Cleansing From Sin

13 “On that day a fountain(A) will be opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse(B) them from sin and impurity.

“On that day, I will banish the names of the idols(C) from the land, and they will be remembered no more,”(D) declares the Lord Almighty. “I will remove both the prophets(E) and the spirit of impurity from the land. And if anyone still prophesies, their father and mother, to whom they were born, will say to them, ‘You must die, because you have told lies(F) in the Lord’s name.’ Then their own parents will stab the one who prophesies.(G)

“On that day every prophet will be ashamed(H) of their prophetic vision. They will not put on a prophet’s garment(I) of hair(J) in order to deceive.(K) Each will say, ‘I am not a prophet. I am a farmer; the land has been my livelihood since my youth.[a](L) If someone asks, ‘What are these wounds on your body[b]?’ they will answer, ‘The wounds I was given at the house of my friends.’

The Shepherd Struck, the Sheep Scattered

“Awake, sword,(M) against my shepherd,(N)
against the man who is close to me!”
    declares the Lord Almighty.
“Strike the shepherd,
and the sheep will be scattered,(O)
and I will turn my hand against the little ones.
In the whole land,” declares the Lord,
    “two-thirds will be struck down and perish;
yet one-third will be left in it.(P)

I will refine them like silver(R)
    and test them like gold.(S)
They will call(T) on my name(U)
    and I will answer(V) them;
I will say, ‘They are my people,’(W)
and they will say, ‘The Lord is our God.(X)’”

The Lord Comes and Reigns

14 A day of the Lord(Y) is coming, Jerusalem, when your possessions(Z) will be plundered and divided up within your very walls.

I will gather all the nations(AA) to Jerusalem to fight against it;(AB) the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, and the women raped.(AC) Half of the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be taken from the city.(AD) Then the Lord will go out and fight(AE) against those nations, as he fights on a day of battle.(AF) On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives,(AG) east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split(AH) in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south. You will flee by my mountain valley, for it will extend to Azel. You will flee as you fled from the earthquake[c](AI) in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the Lord my God will come,(AJ) and all the holy ones with him.(AK)

On that day there will be neither sunlight(AL) nor cold, frosty darkness. It will be a unique(AM) day—a day known only to the Lord—with no distinction between day and night.(AN) When evening comes, there will be light.(AO)

On that day living water(AP) will flow(AQ) out from Jerusalem, half of it east(AR) to the Dead Sea and half of it west to the Mediterranean Sea, in summer and in winter.(AS)

The Lord will be king(AT) over the whole earth.(AU) On that day there will be one Lord, and his name the only name.(AV)

10 The whole land, from Geba(AW) to Rimmon,(AX) south of Jerusalem, will become like the Arabah. But Jerusalem will be raised up(AY) high from the Benjamin Gate(AZ) to the site of the First Gate, to the Corner Gate,(BA) and from the Tower of Hananel(BB) to the royal winepresses, and will remain in its place.(BC) 11 It will be inhabited;(BD) never again will it be destroyed. Jerusalem will be secure.(BE)

12 This is the plague with which the Lord will strike(BF) all the nations that fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh will rot while they are still standing on their feet, their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths.(BG) 13 On that day people will be stricken by the Lord with great panic.(BH) They will seize each other by the hand and attack one another.(BI) 14 Judah(BJ) too will fight at Jerusalem. The wealth of all the surrounding nations will be collected(BK)—great quantities of gold and silver and clothing. 15 A similar plague(BL) will strike the horses and mules, the camels and donkeys, and all the animals in those camps.

16 Then the survivors(BM) from all the nations that have attacked Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship(BN) the King,(BO) the Lord Almighty, and to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles.(BP) 17 If any of the peoples of the earth do not go up to Jerusalem to worship(BQ) the King, the Lord Almighty, they will have no rain.(BR) 18 If the Egyptian people do not go up and take part, they will have no rain. The Lord[d] will bring on them the plague(BS) he inflicts on the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles.(BT) 19 This will be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles.(BU)

20 On that day holy to the Lord(BV) will be inscribed on the bells of the horses, and the cooking pots(BW) in the Lord’s house will be like the sacred bowls(BX) in front of the altar. 21 Every pot in Jerusalem and Judah will be holy(BY) to the Lord Almighty, and all who come to sacrifice will take some of the pots and cook in them. And on that day(BZ) there will no longer be a Canaanite[e](CA) in the house(CB) of the Lord Almighty.(CC)

Satan Bound

20 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven holding the key to the abyss(A) and a great chain(B) in his hand. He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent who is the devil and Satan,[a](C) and bound(D) him for a thousand years. He threw him into the abyss, closed it, and put a seal on it(E) so that he would no longer deceive the nations(F) until the thousand years were completed. After that, he must be released for a short time.

The Saints Reign with Christ

Then I saw thrones, and people seated on them who were given authority to judge.(G) I also saw the souls of those(H) who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus(I) and because of the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and who had not accepted the mark on their foreheads or their hands.(J) They came to life(K) and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.(L) The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed.

This is the first resurrection. Blessed(M) and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! The second death(N) has no power[b] over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.(O)

Satanic Rebellion Crushed

When the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations(P) at the four corners of the earth,(Q) Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle.(R) Their number is like the sand of the sea.(S) They came up across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the encampment of the saints, the beloved city.(T) Then fire came down from heaven[c] and consumed them.(U) 10 The devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet are,(V) and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.(W)

The Great White Throne Judgment

11 Then I saw a great white throne and one seated on it. Earth and heaven fled from his presence, and no place was found for them.(X) 12 I also saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened.(Y) Another book was opened, which is the book of life,(Z) and the dead were judged according to their works(AA) by what was written in the books. 13 Then the sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades(AB) gave up the dead that were in them; each one was judged according to their works. 14 Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire.(AC) This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

The Thousand Years

20 And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven,(A) having the key(B) to the Abyss(C) and holding in his hand a great chain. He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan,(D) and bound him for a thousand years.(E) He threw him into the Abyss,(F) and locked and sealed(G) it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations(H) anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.

I saw thrones(I) on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge.(J) And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded(K) because of their testimony about Jesus(L) and because of the word of God.(M) They[a] had not worshiped the beast(N) or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands.(O) They came to life and reigned(P) with Christ a thousand years. (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection.(Q) Blessed(R) and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death(S) has no power over them, but they will be priests(T) of God and of Christ and will reign with him(U) for a thousand years.

The Judgment of Satan

When the thousand years are over,(V) Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations(W) in the four corners of the earth(X)—Gog and Magog(Y)—and to gather them for battle.(Z) In number they are like the sand on the seashore.(AA) They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded(AB) the camp of God’s people, the city he loves.(AC) But fire came down from heaven(AD) and devoured them. 10 And the devil, who deceived them,(AE) was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur,(AF) where the beast(AG) and the false prophet(AH) had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.(AI)

The Judgment of the Dead

11 Then I saw a great white throne(AJ) and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence,(AK) and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small,(AL) standing before the throne, and books were opened.(AM) Another book was opened, which is the book of life.(AN) The dead were judged(AO) according to what they had done(AP) as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades(AQ) gave up the dead(AR) that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done.(AS) 14 Then death(AT) and Hades(AU) were thrown into the lake of fire.(AV) The lake of fire is the second death.(AW) 15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life(AX) was thrown into the lake of fire.
