7 How beautiful are your feet in sandals,
O (A)noble daughter!
Your rounded thighs are like (B)jewels,
the work of (C)a master hand.
2 Your navel is a rounded bowl
that never lacks mixed wine.
Your belly is a heap of wheat,
encircled with (D)lilies.
3 (E)Your two breasts are like two fawns,
twins of a gazelle.
4 Your (F)neck is like an ivory tower.
Your (G)eyes are pools in (H)Heshbon,
by the gate of Bath-rabbim.
Your nose is like a tower of (I)Lebanon,
which looks toward (J)Damascus.
5 Your head crowns you like (K)Carmel,
and your (L)flowing locks are like purple;
a king is held captive in the tresses.
6 (M)How beautiful and (N)pleasant you are,
O loved one, with all your delights![a]
7 Your stature is like a palm tree,
and your breasts are like its clusters.
8 I say I will climb the palm tree
and lay hold of its fruit.
Oh may your breasts be like (O)clusters of the vine,
and the scent of your breath like apples,
9 and your (P)mouth[b] like the best wine.
She
It goes down smoothly for my beloved,
gliding over lips and teeth.[c]
The Bride Gives Her Love
11 (S)Come, my beloved,
let us go out into the fields
and lodge in the villages;[d]
12 let us go out early to the vineyards
(T)and see whether the vines have budded,
whether (U)the grape blossoms have opened
and the pomegranates are in bloom.
There I will give you my love.
13 (V)The mandrakes give forth fragrance,
and beside our doors are all choice fruits,
(W)new as well as old,
which I have laid up for you, O my beloved.
Longing for Her Beloved
8 Oh that you were like a brother to me
who nursed at my mother's breasts!
If I found you outside, I would kiss you,
and none would despise me.
2 I would lead you and (X)bring you
into the house of my mother—
she who used to teach me.
I would give you (Y)spiced wine to drink,
the juice of my pomegranate.
3 (Z)His left hand is under my head,
and his right hand embraces me!
4 I (AA)adjure you, O (AB)daughters of Jerusalem,
(AC)that you not stir up or awaken love
until it pleases.
5 (AD)Who is that coming up from the wilderness,
leaning on her beloved?
Under the apple tree I awakened you.
There your mother was in labor with you;
there she who bore you was in labor.
6 Set me as a seal upon your heart,
as (AE)a seal upon your arm,
for (AF)love is strong as death,
(AG)jealousy[e] is fierce as the grave.[f]
Its flashes are flashes of fire,
the very (AH)flame of the Lord.
7 Many waters cannot quench love,
neither can floods drown it.
If a man offered for love
all the wealth of his (AI)house,
he[g] would be utterly despised.

8 We have a little sister,
and she (AJ)has no breasts.
What shall we do for our sister
on the day when she is spoken for?
9 If she is a wall,
we will build on her a battlement of silver,
but if she is a door,
we will enclose her with (AK)boards of cedar.

10 (AL)I was a wall,
and my (AM)breasts were like towers;
then I was in his eyes
as one who finds[h] peace.
11 Solomon had (AN)a vineyard at Baal-hamon;
he (AO)let out the vineyard to (AP)keepers;
each one was to bring for its fruit (AQ)a thousand pieces of silver.
12 My vineyard, my very own, is before me;
you, O Solomon, may have the thousand,
and (AR)the keepers of the fruit two hundred.

13 (AS)O you who dwell in the gardens,
with (AT)companions listening for your voice;
(AU)let me hear it.

14 (AV)Make haste, my beloved,
and be (AW)like a gazelle
or a young stag
on (AX)the mountains of spices.
1 The (AY)vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem (AZ)in the days of (BA)Uzziah, (BB)Jotham, (BC)Ahaz, and (BD)Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
The Wickedness of Judah
2 (BE)Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O (BF)earth;
for the Lord has spoken:
“Children[i] (BG)have I reared and brought up,
but they have rebelled against me.
3 The ox (BH)knows its owner,
and the donkey its master's crib,
but Israel does (BI)not know,
my people do not understand.”
4 Ah, sinful nation,
a people laden with iniquity,
(BJ)offspring of evildoers,
children who deal corruptly!
They have forsaken the Lord,
they have (BK)despised (BL)the Holy One of Israel,
they are utterly (BM)estranged.
5 Why will you still be (BN)struck down?
Why will you (BO)continue to rebel?
The whole head is sick,
and the whole heart faint.
6 (BP)From the sole of the foot even to the head,
there is no soundness in it,
but bruises and sores
and raw wounds;
they are (BQ)not pressed out or bound up
or softened with oil.
7 (BR)Your country lies desolate;
your cities are burned with fire;
in your very presence
foreigners devour your land;
it is desolate, as overthrown by foreigners.
8 And (BS)the daughter of Zion is left
like a (BT)booth in a vineyard,
like a lodge in a cucumber field,
like a besieged city.
9 (BU)If the Lord of hosts
had not left us (BV)a few survivors,
we should have been like (BW)Sodom,
and become like (BX)Gomorrah.
10 Hear the word of the Lord,
you rulers of (BY)(BZ)Sodom!
Give ear to the teaching[j] of our God,
you people of (CA)Gomorrah!
11 (CB)“What to me is the multitude of your sacrifices?
says the Lord;
I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams
and the fat of well-fed beasts;
I do not delight in the blood of bulls,
or of lambs, or of goats.
12 “When you come to (CC)appear before me,
who has required of you
this trampling of my courts?
13 Bring no more vain offerings;
incense is an abomination to me.
(CD)New moon and Sabbath and the (CE)calling of convocations—
I cannot endure (CF)iniquity and (CG)solemn assembly.
14 Your (CH)new moons and your appointed feasts
my soul hates;
they have become a burden to me;
I am weary of bearing them.
15 When you (CI)spread out your hands,
I will hide my eyes from you;
(CJ)even though you make many prayers,
I will not listen;
(CK)your hands are full of blood.
16 (CL)Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean;
remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes;
(CM)cease to do evil,
17 learn to do good;
(CN)seek justice,
correct oppression;
(CO)bring justice to the fatherless,
plead the widow's cause.
18 “Come now, (CP)let us reason[k] together, says the Lord:
though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as (CQ)white as snow;
though they are red like crimson,
they shall become like wool.
19 (CR)If you are willing and obedient,
you shall eat the good of the land;
20 but if you refuse and rebel,
you shall be eaten by the sword;
(CS)for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
The Unfaithful City
21 How the faithful city
(CT)has become a whore,[l]
(CU)she who was full of justice!
Righteousness lodged in her,
but now murderers.
22 (CV)Your silver has become dross,
your best wine mixed with water.
23 Your princes are rebels
and companions of thieves.
Everyone (CW)loves a bribe
and runs after gifts.
(CX)They do not bring justice to the fatherless,
and the widow's cause does not come to them.
24 Therefore the (CY)Lord declares,
the Lord of hosts,
the (CZ)Mighty One of Israel:
“Ah, I will get relief from my enemies
(DA)and avenge myself on my foes.
25 (DB)I will turn my hand against you
and will smelt away your (DC)dross as with lye
and remove all your alloy.
26 And I will restore your judges (DD)as at the first,
and your counselors as at the beginning.
Afterward (DE)you shall be called the city of righteousness,
the faithful city.”
27 (DF)Zion shall be redeemed by justice,
and those in her who repent, by righteousness.
28 (DG)But rebels and sinners shall be broken together,
and those who forsake the Lord shall be consumed.
29 (DH)For they[m] shall be ashamed of (DI)the oaks
that you desired;
and you shall blush for (DJ)the gardens
that you have chosen.
30 For you shall be (DK)like an oak
whose leaf withers,
and like a garden without water.
31 And the strong shall become (DL)tinder,
and his work a spark,
and both of them shall burn together,
with (DM)none to quench them.
The Mountain of the Lord
2 The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
2 (DN)It shall come to pass in the latter days
that (DO)the mountain of the house of the Lord
shall be established as the highest of the mountains,
and shall be lifted up above the hills;
and (DP)all the nations shall flow to it,
3 and (DQ)many peoples shall come, and say:
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of the God of Jacob,
that he may teach us his ways
and that we may walk in his paths.”
For (DR)out of Zion shall go forth the law,[n]
and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4 He shall judge between the nations,
and shall decide disputes for many peoples;
(DS)and they shall beat their swords into plowshares,
and their spears into pruning hooks;
(DT)nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
neither shall they learn war anymore.
5 O house of Jacob,
come, let us walk
in (DU)the light of the Lord.

7 [a]How beautiful your sandaled feet,
O prince’s(A) daughter!
Your graceful legs are like jewels,
the work of an artist’s hands.
2 Your navel is a rounded goblet
that never lacks blended wine.
Your waist is a mound of wheat
encircled by lilies.
3 Your breasts(B) are like two fawns,
like twin fawns of a gazelle.
4 Your neck is like an ivory tower.(C)
Your eyes are the pools of Heshbon(D)
by the gate of Bath Rabbim.
Your nose is like the tower of Lebanon(E)
looking toward Damascus.
5 Your head crowns you like Mount Carmel.(F)
Your hair is like royal tapestry;
the king is held captive by its tresses.
6 How beautiful(G) you are and how pleasing,
my love, with your delights!(H)
7 Your stature is like that of the palm,

May your breasts be like clusters of grapes on the vine,
the fragrance of your breath like apples,(J)

May the wine go straight to my beloved,(K)

10 I belong to my beloved,
and his desire(L) is for me.(M)
11 Come, my beloved, let us go to the countryside,
let us spend the night in the villages.[c]
12 Let us go early to the vineyards(N)
to see if the vines have budded,(O)

there I will give you my love.

It burns like blazing fire,
like a mighty flame.[e]
7 Many waters cannot quench love;
rivers cannot sweep it away.
If one were to give
all the wealth of one’s house for love,

8 We have a little sister,
and her breasts are not yet grown.
What shall we do for our sister
on the day she is spoken for?
9 If she is a wall,
we will build towers of silver on her.
If she is a door,
we will enclose her with panels of cedar.

10 I am a wall,

1 The vision(AI) concerning Judah and Jerusalem(AJ) that Isaiah son of Amoz saw(AK) during the reigns of Uzziah,(AL) Jotham,(AM) Ahaz(AN) and Hezekiah,(AO) kings of Judah.
A Rebellious Nation
2 Hear me, you heavens! Listen, earth!(AP)
For the Lord has spoken:(AQ)
“I reared children(AR) and brought them up,
but they have rebelled(AS) against me.
3 The ox knows(AT) its master,
the donkey its owner’s manger,(AU)
but Israel does not know,(AV)
my people do not understand.(AW)”
4 Woe to the sinful nation,
a people whose guilt is great,(AX)
a brood of evildoers,(AY)
children given to corruption!(AZ)
They have forsaken(BA) the Lord;
they have spurned the Holy One(BB) of Israel
and turned their backs(BC) on him.
5 Why should you be beaten(BD) anymore?
Why do you persist(BE) in rebellion?(BF)
Your whole head is injured,
your whole heart(BG) afflicted.(BH)
6 From the sole of your foot to the top of your head(BI)
there is no soundness(BJ)—
only wounds and welts(BK)
and open sores,
not cleansed or bandaged(BL)
or soothed with olive oil.(BM)
7 Your country is desolate,(BN)
your cities burned with fire;(BO)
your fields are being stripped by foreigners(BP)
right before you,
laid waste as when overthrown by strangers.(BQ)
8 Daughter Zion(BR) is left(BS)
like a shelter in a vineyard,
like a hut(BT) in a cucumber field,
like a city under siege.
9 Unless the Lord Almighty
had left us some survivors,(BU)
we would have become like Sodom,
we would have been like Gomorrah.(BV)
10 Hear the word of the Lord,(BW)
you rulers of Sodom;(BX)
listen to the instruction(BY) of our God,
you people of Gomorrah!(BZ)
11 “The multitude of your sacrifices—
what are they to me?” says the Lord.
“I have more than enough of burnt offerings,
of rams and the fat of fattened animals;(CA)
I have no pleasure(CB)
in the blood of bulls(CC) and lambs and goats.(CD)
12 When you come to appear before me,
who has asked this of you,(CE)
this trampling of my courts?
13 Stop bringing meaningless offerings!(CF)
Your incense(CG) is detestable(CH) to me.
New Moons,(CI) Sabbaths and convocations(CJ)—
I cannot bear your worthless assemblies.
14 Your New Moon(CK) feasts and your appointed festivals(CL)
I hate with all my being.(CM)
They have become a burden to me;(CN)
I am weary(CO) of bearing them.
15 When you spread out your hands(CP) in prayer,
I hide(CQ) my eyes from you;
even when you offer many prayers,
I am not listening.(CR)
16 Wash(CU) and make yourselves clean.
Take your evil deeds out of my sight;(CV)
stop doing wrong.(CW)
17 Learn to do right;(CX) seek justice.(CY)
Defend the oppressed.[i](CZ)
Take up the cause of the fatherless;(DA)
plead the case of the widow.(DB)
18 “Come now, let us settle the matter,”(DC)
says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;(DD)
though they are red as crimson,
they shall be like wool.(DE)
19 If you are willing and obedient,(DF)
you will eat the good things of the land;(DG)
20 but if you resist and rebel,(DH)
you will be devoured by the sword.”(DI)
For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.(DJ)
21 See how the faithful city
has become a prostitute!(DK)
She once was full of justice;
righteousness(DL) used to dwell in her—
but now murderers!(DM)
22 Your silver has become dross,(DN)
your choice wine is diluted with water.
23 Your rulers are rebels,(DO)
partners with thieves;(DP)
they all love bribes(DQ)
and chase after gifts.
They do not defend the cause of the fatherless;
the widow’s case does not come before them.(DR)
24 Therefore the Lord, the Lord Almighty,
the Mighty One(DS) of Israel, declares:
“Ah! I will vent my wrath on my foes
and avenge(DT) myself on my enemies.(DU)
25 I will turn my hand against you;[j](DV)
I will thoroughly purge(DW) away your dross(DX)
and remove all your impurities.(DY)
26 I will restore your leaders as in days of old,(DZ)
your rulers as at the beginning.
Afterward you will be called(EA)
the City of Righteousness,(EB)
the Faithful City.(EC)”
27 Zion will be delivered with justice,
her penitent(ED) ones with righteousness.(EE)
28 But rebels and sinners(EF) will both be broken,
and those who forsake(EG) the Lord will perish.(EH)
29 “You will be ashamed(EI) because of the sacred oaks(EJ)
in which you have delighted;
you will be disgraced because of the gardens(EK)
that you have chosen.
30 You will be like an oak with fading leaves,(EL)
like a garden without water.
31 The mighty man will become tinder
and his work a spark;
both will burn together,
with no one to quench the fire.(EM)”
The Mountain of the Lord(EN)
2 This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:(EO)
2 In the last days(EP)
the mountain(EQ) of the Lord’s temple will be established
as the highest of the mountains;(ER)
it will be exalted(ES) above the hills,
and all nations will stream to it.(ET)
3 Many peoples(EU) will come and say,
“Come, let us go(EV) up to the mountain(EW) of the Lord,
to the temple of the God of Jacob.
He will teach us his ways,
so that we may walk in his paths.”
The law(EX) will go out from Zion,
the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.(EY)
4 He will judge(EZ) between the nations
and will settle disputes(FA) for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.(FB)
Nation will not take up sword against nation,(FC)
nor will they train for war anymore.
