²⁴ What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?^(A)

¹⁸ The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack^(A) and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom.^(B) To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.^(C)

⁶ For we know that our old self^(A) was crucified with him^(B) so that the body ruled by sin^(C) might be done away with,^[a] that we should no longer be slaves to sin^(D)—

¹⁴ who gave himself for us^(A) to redeem us from all wickedness^(B) and to purify^(C) for himself a people that are his very own,^(D) eager to do what is good.^(E)

² because through Christ Jesus^(A) the law of the Spirit who gives life^(B) has set you^[a] free^(C) from the law of sin^(D) and death.

⁷ or because of these surpassingly great revelations.^(A) Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh,^(B) a messenger of Satan,^(C) to torment me. ⁸ Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.^{(D) 9} But he said to me, “My grace^(E) is sufficient for you, for my power^(F) is made perfect in weakness.^(G)”^(H) Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

⁴ ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes.^(A) There will be no more death’^[a](B) or mourning or crying or pain,^(C) for the old order of things has passed away.”^(D)

¹⁵ and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear^(A) of death.
