Revive Us Again

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of (A)the Sons of Korah.

85 Lord, you were (B)favourable to your land;
    you (C)restored the fortunes of Jacob.
You (D)forgave the iniquity of your people;
    you (E)covered all their sin. Selah
You withdrew all your wrath;
    you (F)turned from your hot anger.
(G)Restore us again, O God of our salvation,
    and put away your indignation towards us!
(H)Will you be angry with us for ever?
    Will you prolong your anger to all generations?
Will you not (I)revive us again,
    that your people may (J)rejoice in you?
Show us your steadfast love, O Lord,
    and grant us your salvation.
(K)Let me hear what God the Lord will speak,
    for he will (L)speak peace to his people, to his (M)saints;
    but let them not (N)turn back to (O)folly.
Surely his (P)salvation is near to those who fear him,
    that (Q)glory may dwell in our land.
10 (R)Steadfast love and faithfulness meet;
    (S)righteousness and peace kiss each other.
11 Faithfulness springs up from the ground,
    and righteousness looks down from the sky.
12 Yes, (T)the Lord will give what is good,
    and our land (U)will yield its increase.
13 (V)Righteousness will go before him
    and make his footsteps a way.

Great Is Your Steadfast Love

(W)A Prayer of David.

86 (X)Incline your ear, O Lord, and answer me,
    for I am (Y)poor and needy.
Preserve my life, for I am (Z)godly;
    save your servant, who (AA)trusts in you—you are my God.
(AB)Be gracious to me, O Lord,
    for to you do I cry all the day.
Gladden the soul of your servant,
    for (AC)to you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.
For you, O Lord, are good and (AD)forgiving,
    (AE)abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.
(AF)Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer;
    listen to my plea for grace.
In (AG)the day of my trouble I call upon you,
    (AH)for you answer me.
There is (AI)none like you among the gods, O Lord,
    (AJ)nor are there any works like yours.
(AK)All the nations you have made shall come
    and worship before you, O Lord,
    and shall glorify your name.
10 For (AL)you are great and (AM)do wondrous things;
    (AN)you alone are God.
11 (AO)Teach me your way, O Lord,
    that I may (AP)walk in your truth;
    (AQ)unite my heart to fear your name.
12 I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart,
    and I will glorify your name for ever.
13 (AR)For great is your steadfast love towards me;
    you have (AS)delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.
14 O God, insolent men have (AT)risen up against me;
    a band of ruthless men seeks my life,
    and they do not set you before them.
15 But you, O Lord, are a God (AU)merciful and gracious,
    slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.
16 (AV)Turn to me and be gracious to me;
    give your strength to (AW)your servant,
    and save (AX)the son of your maidservant.
17 (AY)Show me a sign of your (AZ)favour,
    that those who hate me may see and be put to shame
    because you, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.

Glorious Things of You Are Spoken

A Psalm of (BA)the Sons of Korah. A Song.

87 On (BB)the holy mount (BC)stands the city he founded;
    the Lord (BD)loves the gates of Zion
    more than all the dwelling places of Jacob.
(BE)Glorious things of you are spoken,
    O (BF)city of God. Selah
Among those who (BG)know me I mention (BH)Rahab and Babylon;
    behold, Philistia and Tyre, with (BI)Cush[a]
    “This one was born there”, they say.
And of Zion it shall be said,
    “This one and that one were born in her”;
    for the Most High himself will (BJ)establish her.
The Lord records as he (BK)registers the peoples,
    “This one was born there.” Selah
(BL)Singers and (BM)dancers alike say,
    “All my (BN)springs are in you.”

I Cry Out Day and Night Before You

A Song. A Psalm of (BO)the Sons of Korah. To the choirmaster: according to (BP)Mahalath Leannoth. A Maskil[b] of (BQ)Heman the Ezrahite.

88 O Lord, (BR)God of my salvation;
    I (BS)cry out day and night before you.
Let my prayer come before you;
    (BT)incline your ear to my cry!
For my soul is full of troubles,
    and (BU)my life draws near to (BV)Sheol.
I am counted among those who (BW)go down to the pit;
    I am a man who has no strength,
like one set loose among the dead,
    like the slain that lie in the grave,
like those whom (BX)you remember no more,
    for they are (BY)cut off from your hand.
You have put me in (BZ)the depths of the pit,
    in the (CA)regions dark and (CB)deep.
Your wrath (CC)lies heavy upon me,
    and you overwhelm me with (CD)all your waves. Selah
You have caused (CE)my companions to shun me;
    you have made me (CF)a horror[c] to them.
I am (CG)shut in so that I cannot escape;
    (CH)my eye grows dim through sorrow.
Every day I call upon you, O Lord;
    I (CI)spread out my hands to you.
10 Do you work wonders for the dead?
    (CJ)Do the departed rise up to praise you? Selah
11 Is your steadfast love declared in the grave,
    or your faithfulness in Abaddon?
12 Are your (CK)wonders known in (CL)the darkness,
    or your righteousness in the land of (CM)forgetfulness?
13 But I, O Lord, cry (CN)to you;
    (CO)in the morning my prayer comes before you.
14 O Lord, why (CP)do you cast my soul away?
    Why (CQ)do you hide your face from me?
15 Afflicted and close to death from my youth up,
    I suffer your terrors; I am helpless.[d]
16 Your wrath has swept over me;
    your (CR)dreadful assaults destroy me.
17 They (CS)surround me like a flood (CT)all day long;
    they (CU)close in on me together.
18 You have caused (CV)my beloved and my friend to shun me;
    my companions have become darkness.[e]

I Will Sing of the Steadfast Love of the Lord

A Maskil[f] of (CW)Ethan the Ezrahite.

89 (CX)I will sing of (CY)the steadfast love of the Lord, for ever;
    with my mouth I will make known your (CZ)faithfulness to all generations.
For I said, (DA)“Steadfast love will be built up for ever;
    in the heavens (DB)you will establish your (DC)faithfulness.”
You have said, “I have made (DD)a covenant with my (DE)chosen one;
    I have (DF)sworn to David my servant:
‘I will establish your (DG)offspring for ever,
    and build your (DH)throne for all generations.’” Selah
Let (DI)the heavens praise your (DJ)wonders, O Lord,
    your faithfulness in the assembly of (DK)the holy ones!
For (DL)who in the skies can be compared to the Lord?
    (DM)Who among the heavenly beings[g] is like the Lord,
a God greatly (DN)to be feared in the council of (DO)the holy ones,
    and awesome above all (DP)who are around him?
O Lord God of hosts,
    (DQ)who is mighty as you are, O (DR)Lord,
    with your faithfulness all round you?
You rule the raging of the sea;
    when its waves rise, you (DS)still them.
10 You (DT)crushed (DU)Rahab like a carcass;
    you (DV)scattered your enemies with your mighty arm.
11 (DW)The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours;
    (DX)the world and all that is in it, you have (DY)founded them.
12 (DZ)The north and the south, you have created them;
    (EA)Tabor and (EB)Hermon (EC)joyously praise your name.
13 You have a mighty arm;
    strong is your hand, high your right hand.
14 (ED)Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;
    (EE)steadfast love and faithfulness go before you.
15 Blessed are the people who know (EF)the festal shout,
    who walk, O Lord, in (EG)the light of your face,
16 who exult in your (EH)name all the day
    and in your righteousness are (EI)exalted.
17 For you are (EJ)the glory of their strength;
    by your favour our (EK)horn is exalted.
18 For our (EL)shield belongs to the Lord,
    our king to (EM)the Holy One of Israel.
19 (EN)Of old you spoke in a vision to your godly one,[h] and said:
    “I have (EO)granted help to one who is (EP)mighty;
    I have exalted one (EQ)chosen from the people.
20 (ER)I have found David, my servant;
    with my holy oil I have (ES)anointed him,
21 so that my (ET)hand shall be established with him;
    my arm also shall strengthen him.
22 The enemy shall not outwit him;
    (EU)the wicked shall not humble him.
23 I will (EV)crush his foes before him
    and strike down those who hate him.
24 My (EW)faithfulness and my (EX)steadfast love shall be with him,
    and in my name shall his (EY)horn be exalted.
25 I will set his hand on (EZ)the sea
    and his right hand on (FA)the rivers.
26 He shall cry to me, ‘You are my (FB)Father,
    my God, and (FC)the Rock of my salvation.’
27 And I will make him the (FD)firstborn,
    (FE)the highest of the kings of the earth.
28 My steadfast love I will keep for him for ever,
    and my (FF)covenant will stand firm[i] for him.
29 I will establish his (FG)offspring for ever
    and his (FH)throne as (FI)the days of the heavens.
30 (FJ)If his children forsake my law
    and do not walk according to my rules,[j]
31 if they violate my statutes
    and do not keep my commandments,
32 then I will punish their transgression with (FK)the rod
    and their iniquity with stripes,
33 but I will not remove from him my steadfast love
    or be false to my faithfulness.
34 I will not violate my (FL)covenant
    or alter the word that went forth from my lips.
35 Once for all I have sworn (FM)by my holiness;
    I will not (FN)lie to David.
36 His (FO)offspring shall endure for ever,
    (FP)his (FQ)throne as long as (FR)the sun before me.
37 Like (FS)the moon it shall be established for ever,
    (FT)a faithful witness in the skies.” Selah
38 But now you have (FU)cast off and rejected;
    you are full of wrath against your (FV)anointed.
39 You have (FW)renounced (FX)the covenant with your servant;
    you have (FY)defiled his (FZ)crown in the dust.
40 You have (GA)breached all his walls;
    you have laid his strongholds in ruins.
41 (GB)All who pass by plunder him;
    he has become (GC)the scorn of his neighbours.
42 You have exalted the right hand of his foes;
    you have made all his enemies rejoice.
43 You have also turned back the edge of his sword,
    and you have not made him stand in battle.
44 You have made his splendour to cease
    and cast his throne to the ground.
45 You have cut short (GD)the days of his youth;
    you have (GE)covered him with shame. Selah
46 (GF)How long, O Lord? Will you hide yourself for ever?
    How long will your wrath (GG)burn like fire?
47 (GH)Remember (GI)how short my (GJ)time is!
    For what vanity you have created all the children of man!
48 (GK)What man can live and never (GL)see death?
    Who can deliver his soul from the power of (GM)Sheol? Selah
49 Lord, where is your (GN)steadfast love of old,
    which by your (GO)faithfulness you swore to David?
50 (GP)Remember, O Lord, how your servants are mocked,
    and how I bear in my (GQ)heart the insults[k] of all the many nations,
51 with which your enemies mock, O Lord,
    with which they mock (GR)the footsteps of your (GS)anointed.
52 (GT)Blessed be the Lord for ever!
Amen and Amen.

Book Four

From Everlasting to Everlasting

A (GU)Prayer of Moses, the (GV)man of God.

90 Lord, you have been our (GW)dwelling place[l]
    in all generations.
(GX)Before the (GY)mountains were brought forth,
    or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
    (GZ)from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
You return man to dust
    and say, (HA)“Return, (HB)O children of man!”[m]
For (HC)a thousand years in your sight
    are but as (HD)yesterday when it is past,
    or as (HE)a watch in the night.
You (HF)sweep them away as with a flood; they are like (HG)a dream,
    like (HH)grass that is renewed in the morning:
in (HI)the morning it flourishes and is renewed;
    in the evening it (HJ)fades and (HK)withers.
For we are brought to an end by your anger;
    by your wrath we are dismayed.
You have (HL)set our iniquities before you,
    our (HM)secret sins in the light of your presence.
For all our days pass away under your wrath;
    we bring our years to an end like a sigh.
10 The years of our life are seventy,
    or even by reason of strength eighty;
yet their span[n] is but toil and trouble;
    they are soon gone, and we fly away.
11 Who considers the power of your anger,
    and your wrath according to the fear of you?
12 (HN)So teach us to number our days
    that we may get a heart of wisdom.
13 (HO)Return, O Lord! (HP)How long?
    Have (HQ)pity on your servants!
14 Satisfy us in the (HR)morning with your steadfast love,
    that we may (HS)rejoice and be glad all our days.
15 Make us glad for as many days as you have (HT)afflicted us,
    and for as many years as we have seen evil.
16 Let your (HU)work be shown to your servants,
    and your glorious power to their children.
17 Let the (HV)favour[o] of the Lord our God be upon us,
    and establish (HW)the work of our hands upon us;
    yes, establish the work of our hands!

My Refuge and My Fortress

91 He who dwells in (HX)the shelter of the Most High
    will abide in (HY)the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say[p] to the Lord, “My (HZ)refuge and my (IA)fortress,
    my God, in whom I (IB)trust.”
For he will deliver you from (IC)the snare of the fowler
    and from the deadly pestilence.
He will (ID)cover you with his pinions,
    and under his (IE)wings you will (IF)find refuge;
    his (IG)faithfulness is (IH)a shield and buckler.
(II)You will not fear (IJ)the terror of the night,
    nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
    nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.
A thousand may fall at your side,
    ten thousand at your right hand,
    but it will not come near you.
You will only look with your eyes
    and (IK)see the recompense of the wicked.
Because you have made the Lord your (IL)dwelling place—
    the Most High, who is my (IM)refuge[q]
10 (IN)no evil shall be allowed to befall you,
    (IO)no plague come near your tent.
11 (IP)For he will command his (IQ)angels concerning you
    to (IR)guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will bear you up,
    lest you (IS)strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on (IT)the lion and the (IU)adder;
    the young lion and (IV)the serpent you will (IW)trample underfoot.
14 “Because he (IX)holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him;
    I will protect him, because he (IY)knows my name.
15 When he (IZ)calls to me, I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble;
    I will rescue him and (JA)honour him.
16 With (JB)long life I will satisfy him
    and (JC)show him my salvation.”

How Great Are Your Works

A Psalm. A Song for the Sabbath.

92 (JD)It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
    to sing praises to your name, (JE)O Most High;
to declare your (JF)steadfast love in (JG)the morning,
    and your (JH)faithfulness by (JI)night,
to the music of (JJ)the lute and (JK)the harp,
    to the melody of (JL)the lyre.
For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your (JM)work;
    at (JN)the works of your hands I sing for joy.
How (JO)great are your works, O Lord!
    Your (JP)thoughts are very (JQ)deep!
The stupid man cannot know;
    the fool cannot understand this:
that though (JR)the wicked sprout like grass
    and all (JS)evildoers flourish,
they are doomed to destruction for ever;
    but you, O Lord, are (JT)on high for ever.
For behold, your enemies, O Lord,
    for behold, your enemies shall perish;
    all evildoers shall be (JU)scattered.
10 But you have exalted my (JV)horn like that of (JW)the wild ox;
    you have (JX)poured over me[r] fresh oil.
11 My (JY)eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies;
    my ears have heard the doom of my evil assailants.
12 (JZ)The righteous flourish like the palm tree
    and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13 They are planted in the house of the Lord;
    they flourish in (KA)the courts of our God.
14 They still bear fruit in old age;
    they are ever full of sap and green,
15 (KB)to declare that the Lord is upright;
    he is my (KC)rock, and there is (KD)no unrighteousness in him.

The Lord Reigns

93 (KE)The Lord reigns; he is (KF)robed in majesty;
    the Lord is (KG)robed; he has (KH)put on strength as his belt.
(KI)Yes, the world is established; (KJ)it shall never be moved.
(KK)Your throne is established from of old;
    (KL)you are from everlasting.
(KM)The floods have lifted up, O Lord,
    the floods have lifted up their voice;
    the floods lift up their roaring.
Mightier than the thunders of many waters,
    mightier than the waves of the sea,
    (KN)the Lord (KO)on high is mighty!
Your (KP)decrees are very trustworthy;
    (KQ)holiness befits your house,
    O Lord, for evermore.

The Lord Will Not Forsake His People

94 O Lord, God of (KR)vengeance,
    O God of vengeance, (KS)shine forth!
(KT)Rise up, O (KU)judge of the earth;
    repay to the (KV)proud what they deserve!
O Lord, (KW)how long shall the wicked,
    how long shall (KX)the wicked exult?
They pour out their (KY)arrogant words;
    all (KZ)the evildoers boast.
They (LA)crush your people, O Lord,
    and afflict your heritage.
They kill (LB)the widow and the sojourner,
    and murder (LC)the fatherless;
(LD)and they say, “The Lord does not see;
    the God of Jacob does not perceive.”
(LE)Understand, O dullest of the people!
    Fools, when will you be wise?
(LF)He who planted the ear, does he not hear?
He who formed the eye, does he not see?
10 He who (LG)disciplines the nations, does he not rebuke?
He who (LH)teaches man knowledge—
11     (LI)the Lord—knows the thoughts of man,
    that they are (LJ)but a breath.[s]
12 (LK)Blessed is the man whom you (LL)discipline, O Lord,
    and whom you teach out of your law,
13 to give him (LM)rest from (LN)days of trouble,
    until (LO)a pit is dug for the wicked.
14 (LP)For the Lord will not forsake his (LQ)people;
    he will not abandon his (LR)heritage;
15 for (LS)justice will return to the righteous,
    and all the upright in heart will (LT)follow it.
16 (LU)Who rises up for me against the wicked?
    Who stands up for me against evildoers?
17 (LV)If the Lord had not been my help,
    my soul would soon have lived in the land of (LW)silence.
18 When I thought, (LX)“My foot slips”,
    your steadfast love, O Lord, (LY)held me up.
19 When the cares of my heart are many,
    your consolations cheer my soul.
20 Can (LZ)wicked rulers be allied with you,
    those who frame injustice by (MA)statute?
21 They (MB)band together against the life of the righteous
    and condemn (MC)the innocent to death.[t]
22 But the Lord has become my (MD)stronghold,
    and my God (ME)the rock of my (MF)refuge.
23 He will bring back on them (MG)their iniquity
    and (MH)wipe them out for their wickedness;
    the Lord our God will wipe them out.

Let Us Sing Songs of Praise

95 Oh come, let us sing to the Lord;
    let us (MI)make a joyful noise to (MJ)the rock of our salvation!
Let us (MK)come into his presence with thanksgiving;
    let us (ML)make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
For the Lord is (MM)a great God,
    and a great King (MN)above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth;
    the heights of the mountains are his also.
The sea is his, for (MO)he made it,
    and his hands formed (MP)the dry land.
Oh come, let us worship and bow down;
    let us (MQ)kneel before the Lord, our (MR)Maker!
For he is our (MS)God,
    and we are the people of his (MT)pasture,
    and the sheep of his hand.
(MU)Today, if you (MV)hear his voice,
    (MW)do not harden your hearts, as at (MX)Meribah,
    as on the day at (MY)Massah in the wilderness,
when your fathers put me to the (MZ)test
    and put me to the proof, though they had seen my (NA)work.
10 (NB)For forty years I loathed that generation
    and said, “They are a people who go astray in their heart,
    and they have not known (NC)my ways.”
11 Therefore I (ND)swore in my wrath,
    “They shall not enter (NE)my rest.”

Worship in the Splendour of Holiness

96 (NF)Oh sing to the Lord (NG)a new song;
    sing to the Lord, all the earth!
Sing to the Lord, bless his name;
    (NH)tell of his salvation from day to day.
Declare his glory among the nations,
    his marvellous works among all the peoples!
For (NI)great is the Lord, and (NJ)greatly to be praised;
    he is to be feared above (NK)all gods.
For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols,
    but the Lord (NL)made the heavens.
Splendour and majesty are before him;
    (NM)strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.
Ascribe to the Lord, O (NN)families of the peoples,
    (NO)ascribe to the Lord glory and strength!
Ascribe to the Lord (NP)the glory due his name;
    bring (NQ)an offering, and (NR)come into his courts!
Worship the Lord in (NS)the splendour of holiness;[u]
    (NT)tremble before him, all the earth!
10 Say among the nations, (NU)“The Lord reigns!
    Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved;
    he will (NV)judge the peoples with equity.”
11 Let (NW)the heavens be glad, and let (NX)the earth rejoice;
    let (NY)the sea roar, and all that fills it;
12     let (NZ)the field exult, and everything in it!
Then shall all (OA)the trees of the forest sing for joy
13     before the Lord, for he comes,
    for he comes (OB)to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness,
    and the peoples in his faithfulness.

The Lord Reigns

97 (OC)The Lord reigns, (OD)let the earth rejoice;
    let the many (OE)coastlands be glad!
(OF)Clouds and thick darkness are all round him;
    (OG)righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.
(OH)Fire goes before him
    and burns up his adversaries all round.
His (OI)lightnings light up the world;
    the earth sees and (OJ)trembles.
The mountains (OK)melt like (OL)wax before the Lord,
    before (OM)the Lord of all the earth.
(ON)The heavens proclaim his righteousness,
    and all (OO)the peoples see his glory.
All worshippers of images are (OP)put to shame,
    who make their boast in (OQ)worthless idols;
    (OR)worship him, all you gods!
Zion hears and (OS)is glad,
    and the daughters of Judah rejoice,
    because of your judgements, O Lord.
For you, O Lord, are (OT)most high over all the earth;
    you are exalted far above (OU)all gods.
10 O you who love the Lord, (OV)hate evil!
    He (OW)preserves the lives of his (OX)saints;
    he (OY)delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
11 (OZ)Light (PA)is sown[v] for the righteous,
    and joy for the upright in heart.
12 (PB)Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous,
    and (PC)give thanks to his holy name!

Make a Joyful Noise to the Lord

A Psalm.

98 Oh sing to the Lord (PD)a new song,
    for he has done (PE)marvellous things!
His (PF)right hand and his holy arm
    have worked salvation for him.
The Lord has (PG)made known his salvation;
    he has (PH)revealed his righteousness in (PI)the sight of the nations.
He has (PJ)remembered his (PK)steadfast love and faithfulness
    to the house of Israel.
All (PL)the ends of the earth have seen
    (PM)the salvation of our God.
(PN)Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;
    (PO)break forth into joyous song and sing praises!
Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre,
    with the lyre and the (PP)sound of melody!
With (PQ)trumpets and the sound of (PR)the horn
    (PS)make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord!
(PT)Let the sea roar, and (PU)all that fills it;
    (PV)the world and those who dwell in it!
Let the rivers (PW)clap their hands;
    let (PX)the hills sing for joy together
before the Lord, for he comes
    to (PY)judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness,
    and the peoples with equity.

The Lord Our God Is Holy

99 (PZ)The Lord reigns; (QA)let the peoples tremble!
    He (QB)sits enthroned upon the cherubim; (QC)let the earth quake!
The Lord is (QD)great in Zion;
    he is (QE)exalted over all the peoples.
Let them praise your (QF)great and awesome name!
    (QG)Holy is he!
(QH)The King in his might (QI)loves justice.[w]
    You have established equity;
you have executed justice
    and righteousness in Jacob.
(QJ)Exalt the Lord our God;
    (QK)worship at his (QL)footstool!
    (QM)Holy is he!
(QN)Moses and Aaron were among his (QO)priests,
    Samuel also was among those who (QP)called upon his name.
    They (QQ)called to the Lord, and he answered them.
In (QR)the pillar of the cloud he spoke to them;
    they (QS)kept his testimonies
    and the statute that he gave them.
O Lord our God, you answered them;
    you were (QT)a forgiving God to them,
    but (QU)an avenger of their wrongdoings.
Exalt the Lord our God,
    and worship at his (QV)holy mountain;
    for the Lord our God is holy!

His Steadfast Love Endures For Ever

A Psalm for (QW)giving thanks.

100 (QX)Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
    (QY)Serve the Lord with gladness!
    (QZ)Come into his presence with singing!
Know that (RA)the Lord, he is God!
    It is he who (RB)made us, and (RC)we are his;[x]
    we are his (RD)people, and (RE)the sheep of his pasture.
(RF)Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
    and his (RG)courts with praise!
    Give thanks to him; (RH)bless his name!
(RI)For the Lord is good;
    his steadfast love endures for ever,
    and his (RJ)faithfulness to all generations.

I Will Walk with Integrity

A Psalm of David.

101 I will sing of (RK)steadfast love and justice;
    to you, O Lord, I will make music.
I will (RL)ponder the way (RM)that is blameless.
    Oh when will you (RN)come to me?
I will (RO)walk with (RP)integrity of heart
    within my house;
I will not set before my eyes
    anything (RQ)that is worthless.
I hate the work of those who (RR)fall away;
    it shall not cling to me.
(RS)A perverse heart shall be far from me;
    I will (RT)know nothing of evil.
Whoever slanders his neighbour (RU)secretly
    I will (RV)destroy.
Whoever has a (RW)haughty look and an (RX)arrogant heart
    I will not endure.
I will look with favour on the faithful in the land,
    that they may dwell with me;
he who walks in (RY)the way that is blameless
    shall minister to me.
No one who (RZ)practises deceit
    shall dwell in my house;
no one who utters lies
    shall (SA)continue before my eyes.
(SB)Morning by morning I will destroy
    all the wicked in the land,
(SC)cutting off all (SD)the evildoers
    from (SE)the city of the Lord.

Psalm 85[a]

For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm.

You, Lord, showed favor to your land;
    you restored the fortunes(A) of Jacob.
You forgave(B) the iniquity(C) of your people
    and covered all their sins.[b]
You set aside all your wrath(D)
    and turned from your fierce anger.(E)

Restore(F) us again, God our Savior,(G)
    and put away your displeasure toward us.
Will you be angry with us forever?(H)
    Will you prolong your anger through all generations?
Will you not revive(I) us again,
    that your people may rejoice(J) in you?
Show us your unfailing love,(K) Lord,
    and grant us your salvation.(L)

I will listen to what God the Lord says;
    he promises peace(M) to his people, his faithful servants—
    but let them not turn to folly.(N)
Surely his salvation(O) is near those who fear him,
    that his glory(P) may dwell in our land.

10 Love and faithfulness(Q) meet together;
    righteousness(R) and peace kiss each other.
11 Faithfulness springs forth from the earth,
    and righteousness(S) looks down from heaven.
12 The Lord will indeed give what is good,(T)
    and our land will yield(U) its harvest.
13 Righteousness goes before him
    and prepares the way for his steps.

Psalm 86

A prayer of David.

Hear me, Lord, and answer(V) me,
    for I am poor and needy.
Guard my life, for I am faithful to you;
    save your servant who trusts in you.(W)
You are my God; have mercy(X) on me, Lord,
    for I call(Y) to you all day long.
Bring joy to your servant, Lord,
    for I put my trust(Z) in you.

You, Lord, are forgiving and good,
    abounding in love(AA) to all who call to you.
Hear my prayer, Lord;
    listen to my cry(AB) for mercy.
When I am in distress,(AC) I call(AD) to you,
    because you answer(AE) me.

Among the gods(AF) there is none like you,(AG) Lord;
    no deeds can compare with yours.
All the nations you have made
    will come(AH) and worship(AI) before you, Lord;
    they will bring glory(AJ) to your name.
10 For you are great(AK) and do marvelous deeds;(AL)
    you alone(AM) are God.

11 Teach me your way,(AN) Lord,
    that I may rely on your faithfulness;(AO)
give me an undivided(AP) heart,
    that I may fear(AQ) your name.
12 I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart;(AR)
    I will glorify your name forever.
13 For great is your love toward me;
    you have delivered me(AS) from the depths,
    from the realm of the dead.(AT)

14 Arrogant foes are attacking me, O God;
    ruthless people are trying to kill me—
    they have no regard for you.(AU)

    slow to anger,(AW) abounding(AX) in love and faithfulness.(AY)

Psalm 87

Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm. A song.

He has founded his city on the holy mountain.(BE)
The Lord loves the gates of Zion(BF)
    more than all the other dwellings of Jacob.

Glorious things are said of you,
    city of God:[c](BG)
“I will record Rahab[d](BH) and Babylon
    among those who acknowledge me—
Philistia(BI) too, and Tyre(BJ), along with Cush[e]
    and will say, ‘This one was born in Zion.’”[f](BK)
Indeed, of Zion it will be said,
    “This one and that one were born in her,
    and the Most High himself will establish her.”
The Lord will write in the register(BL) of the peoples:
    “This one was born in Zion.”

As they make music(BM) they will sing,
    “All my fountains(BN) are in you.”

Psalm 88[g]

A song. A psalm of the Sons of Korah. For the director of music. According to mahalath leannoth.[h] A maskil[i] of Heman the Ezrahite.

Lord, you are the God who saves me;(BO)
    day and night I cry out(BP) to you.
May my prayer come before you;
    turn your ear to my cry.

I am overwhelmed with troubles(BQ)
    and my life draws near to death.(BR)
I am counted among those who go down to the pit;(BS)
    I am like one without strength.(BT)
I am set apart with the dead,
    like the slain who lie in the grave,
whom you remember no more,
    who are cut off(BU) from your care.

You have put me in the lowest pit,
    in the darkest depths.(BV)
Your wrath(BW) lies heavily on me;
    you have overwhelmed me with all your waves.[j](BX)
You have taken from me my closest friends(BY)
    and have made me repulsive to them.
I am confined(BZ) and cannot escape;(CA)
    my eyes(CB) are dim with grief.

I call(CC) to you, Lord, every day;
    I spread out my hands(CD) to you.
10 Do you show your wonders to the dead?
    Do their spirits rise up and praise you?(CE)
11 Is your love declared in the grave,
    your faithfulness(CF) in Destruction[k]?
12 Are your wonders known in the place of darkness,
    or your righteous deeds in the land of oblivion?

13 But I cry to you for help,(CG) Lord;
    in the morning(CH) my prayer comes before you.(CI)
14 Why, Lord, do you reject(CJ) me
    and hide your face(CK) from me?

15 From my youth(CL) I have suffered(CM) and been close to death;
    I have borne your terrors(CN) and am in despair.(CO)
16 Your wrath(CP) has swept over me;
    your terrors(CQ) have destroyed me.
17 All day long they surround me like a flood;(CR)
    they have completely engulfed me.
18 You have taken from me friend(CS) and neighbor—
    darkness is my closest friend.

Psalm 89[l]

A maskil[m] of Ethan the Ezrahite.

I will sing(CT) of the Lord’s great love forever;
    with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known(CU)
    through all generations.
I will declare that your love stands firm forever,
    that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.(CV)
You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one,
    I have sworn to David my servant,
‘I will establish your line forever
    and make your throne firm through all generations.’”[n](CW)

The heavens(CX) praise your wonders, Lord,
    your faithfulness too, in the assembly(CY) of the holy ones.
For who in the skies above can compare with the Lord?
    Who is like the Lord among the heavenly beings?(CZ)
In the council(DA) of the holy ones(DB) God is greatly feared;
    he is more awesome than all who surround him.(DC)
Who is like you,(DD) Lord God Almighty?(DE)
    You, Lord, are mighty, and your faithfulness surrounds you.

You rule over the surging sea;
    when its waves mount up, you still them.(DF)
10 You crushed Rahab(DG) like one of the slain;
    with your strong arm you scattered(DH) your enemies.
11 The heavens are yours,(DI) and yours also the earth;(DJ)
    you founded the world and all that is in it.(DK)
12 You created the north and the south;
    Tabor(DL) and Hermon(DM) sing for joy(DN) at your name.
13 Your arm is endowed with power;
    your hand is strong, your right hand exalted.(DO)

14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;(DP)
    love and faithfulness go before you.(DQ)
15 Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you,
    who walk(DR) in the light(DS) of your presence, Lord.
16 They rejoice in your name(DT) all day long;
    they celebrate your righteousness.
17 For you are their glory and strength,(DU)
    and by your favor you exalt our horn.[o](DV)
18 Indeed, our shield[p](DW) belongs to the Lord,
    our king(DX) to the Holy One of Israel.

19 Once you spoke in a vision,
    to your faithful people you said:
“I have bestowed strength on a warrior;
    I have raised up a young man from among the people.
20 I have found David(DY) my servant;(DZ)
    with my sacred oil(EA) I have anointed(EB) him.
21 My hand will sustain him;
    surely my arm will strengthen him.(EC)
22 The enemy will not get the better of him;(ED)
    the wicked will not oppress(EE) him.
23 I will crush his foes before him(EF)
    and strike down his adversaries.(EG)
24 My faithful love will be with him,(EH)
    and through my name his horn[q] will be exalted.
25 I will set his hand over the sea,
    his right hand over the rivers.(EI)
26 He will call out to me, ‘You are my Father,(EJ)
    my God, the Rock(EK) my Savior.’(EL)
27 And I will appoint him to be my firstborn,(EM)
    the most exalted(EN) of the kings(EO) of the earth.
28 I will maintain my love to him forever,
    and my covenant with him will never fail.(EP)
29 I will establish his line forever,
    his throne as long as the heavens endure.(EQ)

30 “If his sons forsake my law
    and do not follow my statutes,
31 if they violate my decrees
    and fail to keep my commands,
32 I will punish their sin with the rod,
    their iniquity with flogging;(ER)
33 but I will not take my love from him,(ES)
    nor will I ever betray my faithfulness.
34 I will not violate my covenant
    or alter what my lips have uttered.(ET)
35 Once for all, I have sworn by my holiness—
    and I will not lie to David—
36 that his line will continue forever
    and his throne endure before me like the sun;(EU)
37 it will be established forever like the moon,
    the faithful witness in the sky.”(EV)

38 But you have rejected,(EW) you have spurned,
    you have been very angry with your anointed one.
39 You have renounced the covenant with your servant
    and have defiled his crown in the dust.(EX)
40 You have broken through all his walls(EY)
    and reduced his strongholds(EZ) to ruins.
41 All who pass by have plundered(FA) him;
    he has become the scorn of his neighbors.(FB)
42 You have exalted the right hand of his foes;
    you have made all his enemies rejoice.(FC)
43 Indeed, you have turned back the edge of his sword
    and have not supported him in battle.(FD)
44 You have put an end to his splendor
    and cast his throne to the ground.
45 You have cut short(FE) the days of his youth;
    you have covered him with a mantle of shame.(FF)

46 How long, Lord? Will you hide yourself forever?
    How long will your wrath burn like fire?(FG)
47 Remember how fleeting is my life.(FH)
    For what futility you have created all humanity!
48 Who can live and not see death,
    or who can escape the power of the grave?(FI)
49 Lord, where is your former great love,
    which in your faithfulness you swore to David?
50 Remember, Lord, how your servant has[r] been mocked,(FJ)
    how I bear in my heart the taunts of all the nations,
51 the taunts with which your enemies, Lord, have mocked,
    with which they have mocked every step of your anointed one.(FK)

52 Praise be to the Lord forever!
Amen and Amen.(FL)

BOOK IV

Psalms 90–106

Psalm 90

A prayer of Moses the man of God.

Lord, you have been our dwelling place(FM)
    throughout all generations.
Before the mountains were born(FN)
    or you brought forth the whole world,
    from everlasting to everlasting(FO) you are God.(FP)

You turn people back to dust,
    saying, “Return to dust, you mortals.”(FQ)
A thousand years in your sight
    are like a day that has just gone by,
    or like a watch in the night.(FR)
Yet you sweep people away(FS) in the sleep of death—
    they are like the new grass of the morning:
In the morning it springs up new,
    but by evening it is dry and withered.(FT)

We are consumed by your anger
    and terrified by your indignation.
You have set our iniquities before you,
    our secret sins(FU) in the light of your presence.(FV)
All our days pass away under your wrath;
    we finish our years with a moan.(FW)
10 Our days may come to seventy years,(FX)
    or eighty,(FY) if our strength endures;
yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow,(FZ)
    for they quickly pass, and we fly away.(GA)
11 If only we knew the power of your anger!
    Your wrath(GB) is as great as the fear that is your due.(GC)
12 Teach us to number our days,(GD)
    that we may gain a heart of wisdom.(GE)

13 Relent, Lord! How long(GF) will it be?
    Have compassion on your servants.(GG)
14 Satisfy(GH) us in the morning with your unfailing love,(GI)
    that we may sing for joy(GJ) and be glad all our days.(GK)
15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us,
    for as many years as we have seen trouble.
16 May your deeds be shown to your servants,
    your splendor to their children.(GL)

17 May the favor[s] of the Lord our God rest on us;
    establish the work of our hands for us—
    yes, establish the work of our hands.(GM)

Psalm 91

Whoever dwells in the shelter(GN) of the Most High
    will rest in the shadow(GO) of the Almighty.[t]
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge(GP) and my fortress,(GQ)
    my God, in whom I trust.”

Surely he will save you
    from the fowler’s snare(GR)
    and from the deadly pestilence.(GS)
He will cover you with his feathers,
    and under his wings you will find refuge;(GT)
    his faithfulness will be your shield(GU) and rampart.
You will not fear(GV) the terror of night,
    nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
    nor the plague that destroys at midday.
A thousand may fall at your side,
    ten thousand at your right hand,
    but it will not come near you.
You will only observe with your eyes
    and see the punishment of the wicked.(GW)

If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
    and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm(GX) will overtake you,
    no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels(GY) concerning you
    to guard you in all your ways;(GZ)
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
    so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.(HA)
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
    you will trample the great lion and the serpent.(HB)

14 “Because he[u] loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
    I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble,
    I will deliver him and honor him.(HC)
16 With long life(HD) I will satisfy him
    and show him my salvation.(HE)

Psalm 92[v]

A psalm. A song. For the Sabbath day.

It is good to praise the Lord
    and make music(HF) to your name,(HG) O Most High,(HH)
proclaiming your love in the morning(HI)
    and your faithfulness at night,
to the music of the ten-stringed lyre(HJ)
    and the melody of the harp.(HK)

For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord;
    I sing for joy(HL) at what your hands have done.(HM)
How great are your works,(HN) Lord,
    how profound your thoughts!(HO)
Senseless people(HP) do not know,
    fools do not understand,
that though the wicked spring up like grass
    and all evildoers flourish,
    they will be destroyed forever.(HQ)

But you, Lord, are forever exalted.

For surely your enemies(HR), Lord,
    surely your enemies will perish;
    all evildoers will be scattered.(HS)
10 You have exalted my horn[w](HT) like that of a wild ox;(HU)
    fine oils(HV) have been poured on me.
11 My eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries;
    my ears have heard the rout of my wicked foes.(HW)

12 The righteous will flourish(HX) like a palm tree,
    they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;(HY)
13 planted in the house of the Lord,
    they will flourish in the courts of our God.(HZ)
14 They will still bear fruit(IA) in old age,
    they will stay fresh and green,
15 proclaiming, “The Lord is upright;
    he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.(IB)

Psalm 93

The Lord reigns,(IC) he is robed in majesty;(ID)
    the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength;(IE)
    indeed, the world is established,(IF) firm and secure.(IG)
Your throne was established(IH) long ago;
    you are from all eternity.(II)

The seas(IJ) have lifted up, Lord,
    the seas have lifted up their voice;(IK)
    the seas have lifted up their pounding waves.(IL)
Mightier than the thunder(IM) of the great waters,
    mightier than the breakers(IN) of the sea—
    the Lord on high is mighty.(IO)

Your statutes, Lord, stand firm;
    holiness(IP) adorns your house(IQ)
    for endless days.

Psalm 94

The Lord is a God who avenges.(IR)
    O God who avenges, shine forth.(IS)
Rise up,(IT) Judge(IU) of the earth;
    pay back(IV) to the proud what they deserve.
How long, Lord, will the wicked,
    how long will the wicked be jubilant?(IW)

They pour out arrogant(IX) words;
    all the evildoers are full of boasting.(IY)
They crush your people,(IZ) Lord;
    they oppress your inheritance.(JA)
They slay the widow(JB) and the foreigner;
    they murder the fatherless.(JC)
They say, “The Lord does not see;(JD)
    the God of Jacob(JE) takes no notice.”

Take notice, you senseless ones(JF) among the people;
    you fools, when will you become wise?
Does he who fashioned the ear not hear?
    Does he who formed the eye not see?(JG)
10 Does he who disciplines(JH) nations not punish?
    Does he who teaches(JI) mankind lack knowledge?
11 The Lord knows all human plans;(JJ)
    he knows that they are futile.(JK)

12 Blessed is the one you discipline,(JL) Lord,
    the one you teach(JM) from your law;
13 you grant them relief from days of trouble,(JN)
    till a pit(JO) is dug for the wicked.
14 For the Lord will not reject his people;(JP)
    he will never forsake his inheritance.
15 Judgment will again be founded on righteousness,(JQ)
    and all the upright in heart(JR) will follow it.

16 Who will rise up(JS) for me against the wicked?
    Who will take a stand for me against evildoers?(JT)
17 Unless the Lord had given me help,(JU)
    I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death.(JV)
18 When I said, “My foot is slipping,(JW)
    your unfailing love, Lord, supported me.
19 When anxiety(JX) was great within me,
    your consolation(JY) brought me joy.

20 Can a corrupt throne(JZ) be allied with you—
    a throne that brings on misery by its decrees?(KA)
21 The wicked band together(KB) against the righteous
    and condemn the innocent(KC) to death.(KD)
22 But the Lord has become my fortress,
    and my God the rock(KE) in whom I take refuge.(KF)
23 He will repay(KG) them for their sins
    and destroy(KH) them for their wickedness;
    the Lord our God will destroy them.

Psalm 95

Come,(KI) let us sing for joy(KJ) to the Lord;
    let us shout aloud(KK) to the Rock(KL) of our salvation.
Let us come before him(KM) with thanksgiving(KN)
    and extol him with music(KO) and song.

For the Lord is the great God,(KP)
    the great King(KQ) above all gods.(KR)
In his hand are the depths of the earth,(KS)
    and the mountain peaks belong to him.
The sea is his, for he made it,
    and his hands formed the dry land.(KT)

Come, let us bow down(KU) in worship,(KV)
    let us kneel(KW) before the Lord our Maker;(KX)
for he is our God
    and we are the people of his pasture,(KY)
    the flock under his care.

Today, if only you would hear his voice,
“Do not harden your hearts(KZ) as you did at Meribah,[x](LA)
    as you did that day at Massah[y] in the wilderness,(LB)
where your ancestors tested(LC) me;
    they tried me, though they had seen what I did.
10 For forty years(LD) I was angry with that generation;
    I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray,(LE)
    and they have not known my ways.’(LF)
11 So I declared on oath(LG) in my anger,
    ‘They shall never enter my rest.’”(LH)

Psalm 96(LI)

Sing to the Lord(LJ) a new song;(LK)
    sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the Lord, praise his name;(LL)
    proclaim his salvation(LM) day after day.
Declare his glory(LN) among the nations,
    his marvelous deeds(LO) among all peoples.

For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;(LP)
    he is to be feared(LQ) above all gods.(LR)
For all the gods of the nations are idols,(LS)
    but the Lord made the heavens.(LT)
Splendor and majesty(LU) are before him;
    strength and glory(LV) are in his sanctuary.

Ascribe to the Lord,(LW) all you families of nations,(LX)
    ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
    bring an offering(LY) and come into his courts.(LZ)
Worship the Lord(MA) in the splendor of his[z] holiness;(MB)

85 Lord, thou hast been favourable unto thy land: thou hast brought back the captivity of Jacob.

Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people, thou hast covered all their sin. Selah.

Thou hast taken away all thy wrath: thou hast turned thyself from the fierceness of thine anger.

Turn us, O God of our salvation, and cause thine anger toward us to cease.

Wilt thou be angry with us for ever? wilt thou draw out thine anger to all generations?

Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?

Shew us thy mercy, O Lord, and grant us thy salvation.

I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly.

Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land.

10 Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

11 Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven.

12 Yea, the Lord shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase.

13 Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps.

86 Bow down thine ear, O Lord, hear me: for I am poor and needy.

Preserve my soul; for I am holy: O thou my God, save thy servant that trusteth in thee.

Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto thee daily.

Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.

For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.

Give ear, O Lord, unto my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications.

In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.

Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord; neither are there any works like unto thy works.

All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name.

10 For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone.

11 Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.

12 I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore.

13 For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell.

14 O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have sought after my soul; and have not set thee before them.

15 But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, long suffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.

16 O turn unto me, and have mercy upon me; give thy strength unto thy servant, and save the son of thine handmaid.

17 Shew me a token for good; that they which hate me may see it, and be ashamed: because thou, Lord, hast holpen me, and comforted me.

87 His foundation is in the holy mountains.

The Lord loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.

Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Selah.

I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to them that know me: behold Philistia, and Tyre, with Ethiopia; this man was born there.

And of Zion it shall be said, This and that man was born in her: and the highest himself shall establish her.

The Lord shall count, when he writeth up the people, that this man was born there. Selah.

As well the singers as the players on instruments shall be there: all my springs are in thee.

88 O lord God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee:

Let my prayer come before thee: incline thine ear unto my cry;

For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh unto the grave.

I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength:

Free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou rememberest no more: and they are cut off from thy hand.

Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps.

Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. Selah.

Thou hast put away mine acquaintance far from me; thou hast made me an abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.

Mine eye mourneth by reason of affliction: Lord, I have called daily upon thee, I have stretched out my hands unto thee.

10 Wilt thou shew wonders to the dead? shall the dead arise and praise thee? Selah.

11 Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave? or thy faithfulness in destruction?

12 Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? and thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?

13 But unto thee have I cried, O Lord; and in the morning shall my prayer prevent thee.

14 Lord, why castest thou off my soul? why hidest thou thy face from me?

15 I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer thy terrors I am distracted.

16 Thy fierce wrath goeth over me; thy terrors have cut me off.

17 They came round about me daily like water; they compassed me about together.

18 Lover and friend hast thou put far from me, and mine acquaintance into darkness.

89 I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.

For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens.

I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant,

Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah.

And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O Lord: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints.

For who in the heaven can be compared unto the Lord? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the Lord?

God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him.

O Lord God of hosts, who is a strong Lord like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee?

Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.

10 Thou hast broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain; thou hast scattered thine enemies with thy strong arm.

11 The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.

12 The north and the south thou hast created them: Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name.

13 Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand.

14 Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.

15 Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance.

16 In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.

17 For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted.

18 For the Lord is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king.

19 Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.

20 I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:

21 With whom my hand shall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him.

22 The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him.

23 And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him.

24 But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted.

25 I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.

26 He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.

27 Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.

28 My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him.

29 His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.

30 If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments;

31 If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments;

32 Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.

33 Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.

34 My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.

35 Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David.

36 His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me.

37 It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.

38 But thou hast cast off and abhorred, thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.

39 Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.

40 Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin.

41 All that pass by the way spoil him: he is a reproach to his neighbours.

42 Thou hast set up the right hand of his adversaries; thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.

43 Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle.

44 Thou hast made his glory to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground.

45 The days of his youth hast thou shortened: thou hast covered him with shame. Selah.

46 How long, Lord? wilt thou hide thyself for ever? shall thy wrath burn like fire?

47 Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain?

48 What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.

49 Lord, where are thy former lovingkindnesses, which thou swarest unto David in thy truth?

50 Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants; how I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty people;

51 Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O Lord; wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.

52 Blessed be the Lord for evermore. Amen, and Amen.

90 Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.

Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.

For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up.

In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.

For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.

Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.

For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.

10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

11 Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath.

12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

13 Return, O Lord, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants.

14 O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

15 Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil.

16 Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children.

17 And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.

91 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

92 It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High:

To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,

Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound.

For thou, Lord, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands.

O Lord, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep.

A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this.

When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever:

But thou, Lord, art most high for evermore.

For, lo, thine enemies, O Lord, for, lo, thine enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.

10 But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.

11 Mine eye also shall see my desire on mine enemies, and mine ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me.

12 The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

13 Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.

14 They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;

15 To shew that the Lord is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

93 The Lord reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.

Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting.

The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves.

The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.

Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O Lord, for ever.

94 O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongeth; O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself.

Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud.

Lord, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?

How long shall they utter and speak hard things? and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves?

They break in pieces thy people, O Lord, and afflict thine heritage.

They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless.

Yet they say, The Lord shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.

Understand, ye brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise?

He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see?

10 He that chastiseth the heathen, shall not he correct? he that teacheth man knowledge, shall not he know?

11 The Lord knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.

12 Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O Lord, and teachest him out of thy law;

13 That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be digged for the wicked.

14 For the Lord will not cast off his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance.

15 But judgment shall return unto righteousness: and all the upright in heart shall follow it.

16 Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?

17 Unless the Lord had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.

18 When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O Lord, held me up.

19 In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.

20 Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law?

21 They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood.

22 But the Lord is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge.

23 And he shall bring upon them their own iniquity, and shall cut them off in their own wickedness; yea, the Lord our God shall cut them off.

95 O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also.

The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land.

O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker.

For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice,

Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness:

When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work.

10 Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways:

11 Unto whom I sware in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest.

96 O sing unto the Lord a new song: sing unto the Lord, all the earth.

Sing unto the Lord, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day.

Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people.

For the Lord is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods.

For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the Lord made the heavens.

Honour and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

Give unto the Lord, O ye kindreds of the people, give unto the Lord glory and strength.

Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come into his courts.

O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.

10 Say among the heathen that the Lord reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved: he shall judge the people righteously.

11 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof.

12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice

13 Before the Lord: for he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth: he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth.

97 The Lord reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof.

Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne.

A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about.

His lightnings enlightened the world: the earth saw, and trembled.

The hills melted like wax at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.

The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory.

Confounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols: worship him, all ye gods.

Zion heard, and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of thy judgments, O Lord.

For thou, Lord, art high above all the earth: thou art exalted far above all gods.

10 Ye that love the Lord, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.

11 Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.

12 Rejoice in the Lord, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

98 O sing unto the Lord a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.

The Lord hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen.

He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.

Sing unto the Lord with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.

With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the Lord, the King.

Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together

Before the Lord; for he cometh to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity.

99 The Lord reigneth; let the people tremble: he sitteth between the cherubims; let the earth be moved.

The Lord is great in Zion; and he is high above all the people.

Let them praise thy great and terrible name; for it is holy.

The king's strength also loveth judgment; thou dost establish equity, thou executest judgment and righteousness in Jacob.

Exalt ye the Lord our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy.

Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among them that call upon his name; they called upon the Lord, and he answered them.

He spake unto them in the cloudy pillar: they kept his testimonies, and the ordinance that he gave them.

Thou answeredst them, O Lord our God: thou wast a God that forgavest them, though thou tookest vengeance of their inventions.

Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at his holy hill; for the Lord our God is holy.

100 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.

Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.

Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

101 I will sing of mercy and judgment: unto thee, O Lord, will I sing.

I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.

I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

A froward heart shall depart from me: I will not know a wicked person.

Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer.

Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me: he that walketh in a perfect way, he shall serve me.

He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight.

I will early destroy all the wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the Lord.

102 Hear my prayer, O Lord, and let my cry come unto thee.

Hide not thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble; incline thine ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily.

For my days are consumed like smoke, and my bones are burned as an hearth.

My heart is smitten, and withered like grass; so that I forget to eat my bread.

By reason of the voice of my groaning my bones cleave to my skin.

I am like a pelican of the wilderness: I am like an owl of the desert.

I watch, and am as a sparrow alone upon the house top.

Mine enemies reproach me all the day; and they that are mad against me are sworn against me.

For I have eaten ashes like bread, and mingled my drink with weeping.

10 Because of thine indignation and thy wrath: for thou hast lifted me up, and cast me down.

11 My days are like a shadow that declineth; and I am withered like grass.

12 But thou, O Lord, shall endure for ever; and thy remembrance unto all generations.

13 Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come.

14 For thy servants take pleasure in her stones, and favour the dust thereof.

15 So the heathen shall fear the name of the Lord, and all the kings of the earth thy glory.

16 When the Lord shall build up Zion, he shall appear in his glory.

17 He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and not despise their prayer.

18 This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the Lord.

19 For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary; from heaven did the Lord behold the earth;

20 To hear the groaning of the prisoner; to loose those that are appointed to death;

21 To declare the name of the Lord in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem;

22 When the people are gathered together, and the kingdoms, to serve the Lord.

23 He weakened my strength in the way; he shortened my days.

24 I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: thy years are throughout all generations.

25 Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands.

26 They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed:

27 But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.

28 The children of thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established before thee.

103 Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.

The Lord executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.

He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel.

The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.

He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.

10 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.

12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him.

14 For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.

15 As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.

16 For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.

17 But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children;

18 To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.

19 The Lord hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.

20 Bless the Lord, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.

21 Bless ye the Lord, all ye his hosts; ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure.

22 Bless the Lord, all his works in all places of his dominion: bless the Lord, O my soul.

104 Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty.

Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:

Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind:

Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire:

Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.

Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains.

At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away.

They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them.

Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth.

10 He sendeth the springs into the valleys, which run among the hills.

11 They give drink to every beast of the field: the wild asses quench their thirst.

12 By them shall the fowls of the heaven have their habitation, which sing among the branches.

13 He watereth the hills from his chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works.

14 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;

15 And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man's heart.

16 The trees of the Lord are full of sap; the cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted;

17 Where the birds make their nests: as for the stork, the fir trees are her house.

18 The high hills are a refuge for the wild goats; and the rocks for the conies.

19 He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down.

20 Thou makest darkness, and it is night: wherein all the beasts of the forest do creep forth.

21 The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their meat from God.

22 The sun ariseth, they gather themselves together, and lay them down in their dens.

23 Man goeth forth unto his work and to his labour until the evening.

24 O Lord, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.

25 So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts.

26 There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein.

27 These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season.

28 That thou givest them they gather: thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good.

29 Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.

30 Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.

31 The glory of the Lord shall endure for ever: the Lord shall rejoice in his works.

32 He looketh on the earth, and it trembleth: he toucheth the hills, and they smoke.

33 I will sing unto the Lord as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.

34 My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the Lord.

35 Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless thou the Lord, O my soul. Praise ye the Lord.

105 O give thanks unto the Lord; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people.

Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.

Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord.

Seek the Lord, and his strength: seek his face evermore.

Remember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;

O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen.

He is the Lord our God: his judgments are in all the earth.

He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations.

Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac;

10 And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant:

11 Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance:

12 When they were but a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it.

13 When they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people;

14 He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes;

15 Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.

16 Moreover he called for a famine upon the land: he brake the whole staff of bread.

17 He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant:

18 Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron:

19 Until the time that his word came: the word of the Lord tried him.

20 The king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free.

21 He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance:

22 To bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his senators wisdom.

23 Israel also came into Egypt; and Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham.

24 And he increased his people greatly; and made them stronger than their enemies.

25 He turned their heart to hate his people, to deal subtilly with his servants.

26 He sent Moses his servant; and Aaron whom he had chosen.

27 They shewed his signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham.

28 He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they rebelled not against his word.

29 He turned their waters into blood, and slew their fish.

30 Their land brought forth frogs in abundance, in the chambers of their kings.

31 He spake, and there came divers sorts of flies, and lice in all their coasts.

32 He gave them hail for rain, and flaming fire in their land.

33 He smote their vines also and their fig trees; and brake the trees of their coasts.

34 He spake, and the locusts came, and caterpillers, and that without number,

35 And did eat up all the herbs in their land, and devoured the fruit of their ground.

36 He smote also all the firstborn in their land, the chief of all their strength.

37 He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes.

38 Egypt was glad when they departed: for the fear of them fell upon them.

39 He spread a cloud for a covering; and fire to give light in the night.

40 The people asked, and he brought quails, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven.

41 He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river.

42 For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham his servant.

43 And he brought forth his people with joy, and his chosen with gladness:

44 And gave them the lands of the heathen: and they inherited the labour of the people;

45 That they might observe his statutes, and keep his laws. Praise ye the Lord.

106 Praise ye the Lord. O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

Who can utter the mighty acts of the Lord? who can shew forth all his praise?

Blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that doeth righteousness at all times.

Remember me, O Lord, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation;

That I may see the good of thy chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance.

We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.

Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea.

Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known.

He rebuked the Red sea also, and it was dried up: so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness.

10 And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.

11 And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left.

12 Then believed they his words; they sang his praise.

13 They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel:

14 But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.

15 And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.

16 They envied Moses also in the camp, and Aaron the saint of the Lord.

17 The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan and covered the company of Abiram.

18 And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked.

19 They made a calf in Horeb, and worshipped the molten image.

20 Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass.

21 They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt;

22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea.

23 Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.

24 Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word:

25 But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the Lord.

26 Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness:

27 To overthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands.

28 They joined themselves also unto Baalpeor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead.

29 Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague brake in upon them.

30 Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed.

31 And that was counted unto him for righteousness unto all generations for evermore.

32 They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes:

33 Because they provoked his spirit, so that he spake unadvisedly with his lips.

34 They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the Lord commanded them:

35 But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works.

36 And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them.

37 Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils,

38 And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.

39 Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions.

40 Therefore was the wrath of the Lord kindled against his people, insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance.

41 And he gave them into the hand of the heathen; and they that hated them ruled over them.

42 Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.

43 Many times did he deliver them; but they provoked him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity.

44 Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry:

45 And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies.

46 He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives.

47 Save us, O Lord our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise.

48 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye the Lord.

107 O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;

And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.

They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.

Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.

Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.

And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.

Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.

10 Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron;

11 Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High:

12 Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help.

13 Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.

14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder.

15 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

16 For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder.

17 Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.

18 Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.

19 Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.

20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

21 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

22 And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.

23 They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;

24 These see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep.

25 For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.

26 They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.

27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wit's end.

28 Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.

29 He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.

30 Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.

31 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

32 Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.

33 He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground;

34 A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.

35 He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings.

36 And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation;

37 And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.

38 He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease.

39 Again, they are minished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.

40 He poureth contempt upon princes, and causeth them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.

41 Yet setteth he the poor on high from affliction, and maketh him families like a flock.

42 The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.

43 Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the Lord.

108 O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory.

Awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early.

I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations.

For thy mercy is great above the heavens: and thy truth reacheth unto the clouds.

Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: and thy glory above all the earth;

That thy beloved may be delivered: save with thy right hand, and answer me.

God hath spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.

Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine; Ephraim also is the strength of mine head; Judah is my lawgiver;

Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe; over Philistia will I triumph.

10 Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me into Edom?

11 Wilt not thou, O God, who hast cast us off? and wilt not thou, O God, go forth with our hosts?

12 Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.

13 Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.

109 Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise;

For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.

They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.

For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.

And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.

When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.

Let his days be few; and let another take his office.

Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.

10 Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.

11 Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour.

12 Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children.

13 Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.

14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the Lord; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.

15 Let them be before the Lord continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.

16 Because that he remembered not to shew mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart.
